M ogul Sean Diddy Combs has been a fierce advocate for adequate education in underserved communities. Nearly a year after opening a charter school in his hometown Harlem, he recently announced that he will donate $1 million for the creation of a school in the Bronx, Variety reported. There are currently two schools in Connecticut and New York which serves students in grades Kindergarten through 12. All of the students—many of whom are from low-income households and are the first to go to college in their families—have gone on to further their education at post-secondary schools. Capital Prep Bronx, which is slated to open its doors during the fall of next year, will start off by accepting nearly 200 6th and 7th grade students and aims to serve 650 students over the first five years. This educational initiative is being spearheaded by educator Dr. Steve Perry . “Mr. Combs wanted to open schools to develop leaders. What he’s done with his investment is embody what we expect students to do, which is to invest their resources in our communities,” Dr. Perry told the news outlet. He added that the students, faculty and parents are grateful for his donation and that Combs’ commitment to leveling the playing field when it comes to quality education is inspirational. Combs says using his platform and resources to push education forward is something that’s personal to him. “I came from the same environment these kids live in every day,” he said. “I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future. Our school provides historically disadvantaged students with the college and career skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.” Combs isn’t the only celebrity that is advocating for education in his hometown. Earlier this year, Will Smith was honored with a larger than life mural in Philadelphia and now he’s selling merchandise that features the mural imagery to raise money for a local school. Cable news outlet MSNBC is reporting that police in Plantation, Florida have arrested a 56-year-old white male named Cesar Sayoc and will be charging him with the construction and distribution of the dozen pipe bombs that were sent to Donald Trump detractors. According to the Sun-Sentinel , FBI agents surrounded a white van covered in pro-Trump stickers that was sitting in a commercial parking lot. “Our bomb squad and K-9 Unit are currently providing assistance to our federal partners at the Opa-locka mail facility as part of the ongoing investigation into suspicious packages located in other jurisdictions,” Colome said in a statement. “This assistance is as a precautionary measure. We cannot provide additional information at this time due to the active nature of this federal investigation.” There is a press conference scheduled at 2:30PM (EST) by the U.S. Department of Justice to address the nation and reveal more information about the person arrested and other pertinent details. According to WAVE News , a lawyer for Gregory Bush , a public defender, asked for a bond reduction, but the judge denied that request, ruling Bush a danger to the community. “I believe you to be a danger,” the judge stressed. “You are to possess no firearms, to have no contact with any of the alleged victims’ families, and (have) no contact with the place of violation including any Kroger.” Bush, 51, was charged with two counts of murder and 10 counts of wanton endangerment for the shooting that took place on Wednesday around 3:30pm, killing Maurice Stallard, 69, and Vickie Lee Jones, 67, both from Louisville. Stallard was the father of the city’s Chief Equity Officer, Kellie Watson. Apparently, he was there shopping with his 12-year-old grandson for art supplies. The Kroger Co. issued a statement saying that company officials were “shocked and saddened by the shooting.” “Thanks to the quick response of the local police department, the suspect was apprehended and our store is secure.” Authorities have yet to confirm a motive behind Bush’s alleged crimes, but WDRB.com News reported that he has a history of making racist comments in the past, domestic violence and mental illness. Older court documents claim that Bush called his ex-wife a “n***er b*tch” and was charged with domestic abuse. In a past Facebook post, Bush also wrote “[I’ve] worked most of my life and battled mental illness throughout my life. My paranoid-schizophrenia finally stopped me from working and not am on mental disability. I’m lucky I made it this far with all the trouble I’ve caused myself when I get off my medicine.” It’s unknown if Bush was off his medication during the time of the shooting. But what we do know is that a witness to the shooting claims that after taking out his gun to protect himself, Bush allegedly told him, “Don’t shoot me. I won’t shoot you. Former 90 Day Fiance couple Molly and Luis are over. So over, in fact, that one of them has already moved on. Luis got married just a few months after their divorce, and now Molly is speaking out. She says that this marriage is proof that he was just using her to get into America. Molly Hopkins spoke to Us Weekly and says that Luis Mendez’s wedding is evidence that he is no good. “I feel it clearly shows he was possibly using me and my finances to get here,” Molly says. “Because,” she reasons. “Our divorce was final in May.” Their divorce was May 4 . Luis then got married in September, just four months later. “So he either already knew her and had a plan all along and I’m a fool,” Molly explains. “Or,” Molly says. “We are both fools if she doesn’t know him.” That makes sense. It does seem like either Luis had this woman on the side all along, or has simply moved on. I’m good. I’m so good.” At one point, it appeared that Luis was accusing Molly of abusing him during their marriage . Domestic violence is extremely serious. He recalled his childhood experiences. “I remember having to wait for the free dental clinic to come through my neighborhood to have my teeth cleaned.” DeSantis questioned the moderator’s data from the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office’s report that rejected the healthcare plan that the former congressman and his GOP colleagues promoted. Gillum delivered this zinger. “Mr. DeSantis could have a monopoly on his opinion, but he doesn’t have a monopoly on facts. Facts matter.” Corruption scandal One of the big questions before the debate rematch was how Gillum would respond to an onslaught from DeSantis over an FBI probe into possible Tallahassee government corruption, in which the mayor was reportedly not the target of the investigation. On Tuesday, text messages were made public about the source of tickets Gillum received to the Broadway musical “Hamilton” that appear to contradict his statements at the first debate on the issue. “In the state of Florida we have 99 issues, and Hamilton ain’t one of them.” The Republican taxes overhaul Gillum called the GOP tax overhaul that boosted the bottom line for corporations a failure for working class families. The Republicans promised that there would be a “magical trickle down” to poor people.
