From gold medals to gold wedding bands: Figure skating champion Johnny Weir and boyfriend Victor Voronov tied the knot on New Year’s Eve, the former says. “I’m married!” he Tweeted. “No more livin’ in sin!” While “all the official stuff is done,” the openly gay figure skater , 27, said there will be a wedding in the summer . Congratulations to the newlyweds … Among those offering up their congratulations to the couple upon hearing the surprise news: Former The Real Housewives of New York City star Jill Zarin. While Weir has made news for butting heads – namely with Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek – he said that Voronov was “everything that I’ve ever looked for.” Weir wasn’t the only one gushing about life, either. “Ringing in the New Year with my new hubby,” Voronov, a Georgetown law school graduate, according to his Twitter, wrote with a telling hashtag: “#ELATED.”
Kirstie Alley has lost 100 pounds since her peak weight. That’s amazing. But how does the Dancing With the Stars finalist plan on keeping it off? On New Year’s Day, Alley launched 100 Days of Dance, a program in which she encourages people to dance for 100 consecutive days in order to lose weight or stay fit. “I want everyone to experience some version of Dancing with the Stars,” says Alley, 60. “People don’t have to do monotonous, zombie workouts that are boring.” “Dancing is free and you can do it anywhere and any time.” The actress, now a size 6 and 130 lbs., says she backs up her big talk, staying fit by dancing 1-2 hours a day and following the diet plan Organic Liason. She’ll post videos of herself dancing on the site for 100 days starting on Sunday and she hopes to spotlight exotic locales with special guests along the way. [Photo: WENN.com]
The challenge has been thrown down, 2012. Last year in local news was a great one, as evidenced by this complication of some of the best bloopers from TV journalism outposts across the United States. A story about an flatulent assault that leaves anchors in stitches. A guy attempting to use a jet pack but plunging into the harbor. The unintended use of the words c–t, p–sy and hooters. Cameras panning where they shouldn’t be (numerous). Reporter mishaps, confusion and even rage. All that and more awaits below. Enjoy: Best Local News Bloopers 2011
We’re down to the final two. With the remaining moments of 2011 ticking down by the day (there are only two left!), THG has been ranking the most newsworthy celebrities of the past year. Starting at #10 with Lindsay Lohan, the countdown moved on to Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez , viral video stars , Katy Perry and Justin Bieber . All worthy peeps. Pretty much everyone in the British Royal Family came in at #4, followed by the winner himself, Charlie Sheen , at #3. Which brings us to COTY finalist #2 … … Ms. Lady Gaga! Yes, Lady Gaga knows how to use shock value and outrageous antics to get attention, but she’s so much more than a flash in the pan. The 25-year-old is an artiste, a powerhouse performer and a pop cultural sensation, through and through. Can anyone really dispute that after the 2011 she’s had? With the release of her epic album Born This Way , and the premiere of its title track at the Grammy Awards, which featured her hatching from an egg on stage, Gaga put the planet on notice that she’s just getting started as her generation’s pop icon. Lady Gaga characterized BTW as “something so much deeper than a wig or lipstick or a fucking meat dress.” Fans and critics agreed she is taking music to the “next level.” An advocate for self-acceptance regardless of race or sexual orientation, her music is known for not only its catchy beats, but for its artistic and cultural references. Subsequent singles “Judas” and “The Edge of Glory” continued to push the envelope, receiving criticism for some concepts but acclaim for her overall delivery and range. Later in the year, “You and I” and “Marry the Night” gained recognition for their elaborate music videos, not to mention introspective looks inside the mind of Gaga. That alone is an impressive list, but it’s not even half the story with the girl born Stefani Germanotta who went on to become the hardest working woman in showbiz. Hardly a day goes by without her shutting it down with monster live efforts, collaborating with new artists, dreaming up new ideas … or chatting with fans on Twitter. A self-proclaimed student of fame, she always has her finger on the pulse of pop culture, and has become a living, breathing, one-woman Internet meme in a sense. Take a bow, Lady Gaga. Here’s a look at some of her MANY performances from the past year, which has been one we’ll always remember for how exciting she made it: Lady Gaga – You and I (Ft. Sugarland, Live) Lady Gaga – Marry The Night (Live on X Factor UK) Lady Gaga – Bill Clinton Foundation Performance, Part 1 Lady Gaga – Hair (Live Jamey Rodemeyer Tribute) Lady Gaga – The Edge Of Glory (Live on American Idol) Lady Gaga on Late Show with David Letterman Justin Timberlake & Andy Samberg (ft Lady Gaga) – Three Way (The Golden Rule) Lady Gaga – Born This Way (Grammy Awards)
What seemed like an ordinary evening out turned into the time of one young woman’s life thanks to rapper Drake hopping on stage to sing karaoke with her. Dalal, a.k.a. “Dee,” a student from Kuwait, got a text from a friend who DJs at Saddle Ranch in L.A., telling her to stop by because a celeb was in the house. “When I showed up I asked Jay who the celebrity was and he said he was not sure, and that I should go find out,” said Dee, a karaoke regular there. Dee then took the stage to sing Rihanna ‘s hit “What’s My Name,” and … Drake and Dee Sing Karaoke “I was like, anyone? Anyone? Hello? And decided to just sing it by myself and then boom! Drake jumps up with his bodyguard behind him and he was like ‘Wait, I thought I was going to do the song with you.'” Can you believe that? Even cooler? She hung out with him after. “I went over to his table and Drake told his bodyguard to let me through. He hugged me and I thanked him for singing with me and told him it made my day.” Pretty funny.
Green Bay Packers fans are like no other. The Wisconsin city and its ticket-holders actually own the team, and season tickets are an invaluable commodity there. As you can imagine, that made tickets to the Christmas game with the arch nemesis Bears the hottest (coldest?) ticket in town … and a great vehicle for REVENGE! If her sign is to be believed, this female Packer backer not only dissed one jackass guy in particular, she let a national TV audience know she was smart enough to move on. Wouldn’t it be funny if the guy actually saw this from the couch? “Ho-Ho-Home Field Advantage” isn’t terrible either … Nicely played, Packers fan. Not nicely played, Packers fan’s ex-boyfriend .
Count on the city of New York to catch random acts of silliness on video. Check out this guy reciting “Ni&&as in Paris” on the NYC subway. Dude is going HAM!!! LOL!!
Just in time for the holidays, Google has outdone itself once again. In a Firefox or Chrome browser, all you have to do is Google ” let it snow ” … and it will! Seriously, this is awesome … unless you live in the Great Plains and are already buried in massive drifts of real snow. Then it may seem a little less magical. You should still try it. After you type “let it snow” into the search engine, you can sit back and watch it fall from the top of the browser, filling up the screen. It’s so realistic, it even fogs up the screen as well, something millions of drivers can relate to. Fortunately, you can “Defrost” with one click! Check it out: Let it Snow on Google
