The South Carolina Republican Party rebuffed a $500,000 donation from Stephen Colbert Thursday because it came with a catch: naming rights to its presidential primary. Colbert, the host of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, and a native South Carolinan, writes in Columbia’s State newspaper that he was serious – and they agreed. After learning that the cash-strapped South Carolina GOP and local officials were at odds over who would pay for the January 21 Republican primary, Colbert offered a plan. He would subsidize the cost , through his “Colbert Super PAC,” to the tune of $500K. In return, it would become “The Colbert Super PAC South Carolina Republican Primary.” “I said, ‘I can cover that. No strings attached,'” Colbert writes. “Of course, I can’t offer that kind of no-strings-attached-money without getting something in return.” Colbert also wanted to add a non-binding referendum question on the ballot – referring to a controversial remark by Mitt Romney – asking whether “Corporations are people.” Apparently there was some confusion over how seriously this plan was taken, because “The GOP agreed to everything,” according to Colbert … but not the GOP. Executive director Matt Moore says “Stephen Colbert, the private citizen, called out of the clear blue and made an unsolicited offer to help his home state.” “We were intrigued and met with him, but also wary … ultimately we determined it was not in the state party’s best interests to accept Mr. Colbert’s offers.” “Everything was not ‘agreed to.’ We did not sign his contract. Despite our repeatedly saying ‘no,’ Stephen Colbert, the comedian, seems intent on being involved.” Thank goodness for that.

Here’s what went down: While on vacation in Costa Rica with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth , Miley stopped to pose with a few fans. But she then had to go and turned to walk away… only for one onlooker to refer to her as an “asshole.” Cyrus whipped around and replied (20-second mark, below): “What the f-ck? Are you for real? We’re on vacation!” Miley Cyrus Curses at Fan Miley later took to Twitter and explain ed her reaction: “Just to clear something up I would NEVER swear to a fan. When someone yells something SO rude making ME look like an ‘a**hole’ in front of fans who I am more than happy 2 take a picture w/ i cant tolerate that kind of rudeness. Eight months after her divorce from Corey Simms, Leah Messer is talking engagement with Jeremy Calvert, the boyfriend who lives with her and her twin daughters. Corey is not happy with this new arrangement, however. “I’d die for my girls,” Corey told a pal. “Jeremy is not there to replace me. No one will keep me from them.” As viewers of this week’s Teen Mom 2 saw, Corey and Leah’s love for the girls is strong, but their marriage unraveled very quickly and with a lot of hard feelings. She’s not a bad person, but she’s acting like an idiot.” Kailyn Lowry fears that one day she’ll be unable to pay her rent, and will lose her home and her baby, Isaac. “Kailyn never knows one day to the next if she and Isaac will even have a roof over their heads,” says an insider. On the original Teen Mom front, Amber Portwood was jailed for violating the terms of her probation. She may be there all the way until mid-January. Court papers cite her getting fight at an IHop in November, failure to pay fines, not completing anger management classes and other infractions, topped off by her inability to produce a prescription for medication found on her this week. Crazy girls. Crazy times.

A lot of people may not want to accept this, but Houston rappers really are the trillest in the game. Because they were on their independent grind long before many of us found out about them, Houston rappers have this sense of self that allows them to say and do whatever the hell crosses their mind, without giving two thoughts to what the rest of us might have to say. They are also very much about their money, and very aware of how to make, save and enjoy their bread. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. But Slim Thug isn’t that exception. If anything he’s the textbook example. And while some of you may wonder what he’s been up to, he has a legion of loyal online and off-line followers who keep up with every joke, every lyric and every bit of advice. My name’s Trish and November 23rd was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. My friends and I were trying so hard to get VIP passes to see Justin at the Today Show and of course we had no luck. We were so unsure if it was even worth going down there. We were devastated until we found out about THE VIEW! We had a half day of school so we decided to skip school and go down to the city at 8 am. When we first got to The View, they were done handing out passes to get in. So we decided to wait outside! We waited near the exit where all the celebrities leave. We made so many friends while waiting, it was great!. While waiting we were looking at Twitter and saw that Scrappy tweeted about how there wasn’t enough beliebers inside The View! EVERYONE in the crowd outside told him that he should come out side! About 20 minutes later Justin came out. I WAS DYING. I’ve never been so close to Justin in my life! Girls pushed down the brocades to get in front of the gate. My friends and I stayed near one of the gates. We kept screaming Justin’s name and then Kenny pointed to us telling us that Justin would come over to us next! He came over right in front of me. He touched my hand and looked me in the eyes and was like, “How are you”. I always had like a conversation planned out on what I would say to Justin when I first met him. That plan failed, the first thing I said was I LOVE YOU . After Justin left I was in SHOCK. I called all of my friends hysterically crying. We then walked to Rockefeller Center. My uncle was one of the workers there so we were hoping we would be able to somehow get close to see Justin perform! We waited downstairs and met so many people. We met all the dancers, Scooter, and Dan Kanter. While we were talking to the dancers, guess who walked right passed us? USHER! My uncle was able to get us VIP PASSES to go on the ice to watch Justin perform with Busta and Usher. This day was the best day EVER. In this week’s Hobnobbing, we examine Lionsgate’s latest attention-grabbing campaign. By Amy Wilkinson Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth in “Hunger Games” Photo: Lions Gate One-hundred days can seem like a pittance when, say, it’s the first week of September and you’ve pleasantly (and too quickly) whiled away three months’ worth of summer vacation. But 100 days can feel like an eternity when it’s all that’s standing between a fan and a highly anticipated film debut. Such is the case for the big-screen adaptation of ” The Hunger Games ,” which hits theater March 23, 2012 — exactly 100 days from today. To sate fans’ appetites and capitalize on a milestone date, Lionsgate launched a viral campaign called #HungerGames100 Poster Puzzle Hunt. The online scavenger scramble recruited 100 different websites (including MTV ) to host a piece of a puzzle and tweet a relevant link. Once solved, the puzzle would reveal the newest poster for the film starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. In keeping with the film’s Twitter-heavy rollout, intrigued fans took to the social-networking site to chat about the project. @mayachelsie wrote, “This #HungerGames100 is making me too excited. Oh gosh. I think I’m gonna throw up… 100 DAYS TILL THE HUNGER GAMES!” Similarly, @KarimaHessen enthused, “#HungerGames100 This is going to be the longest 100 days of my liiiiiife!!” Though many fans were excited by the film’s impending debut and the campaign itself, the prospect of hunting down 100 individual pieces was daunting for many. @16princessful mused, “I am not gonna even try to find all 100 pieces cuz I don’t even know where to start lol. #HungerGames100.” @mollsabeth chimed in, “If I didn’t have a job, I would absolutely be trying to solve the #HungerGames100 puzzle.” Whether you joined the hunt or waited for a more industrious (not to mention patient) fan to solve the puzzle, it’s hard to deny Lionsgate caught the Internet’s attention, with many high-profile sites participating (in addition to MTV, Entertainment Weekly, E! Online and People all played ball) and the campaign, at times, trending on Twitter. This isn’t the first time Lionsgate has utilized the power of the interwebs. Back in October, MTV and a handful of other sites participated in a concerted rollout of the film’s character posters ( hello, Peeta! ), and, of course, Twitter went into a tizzy for the film’s first teaser and trailer debuts.
