‘We’ve decided to end our marriage,’ Reynolds confirms to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson Photo: Kevin Mazur Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are separating, MTV News has confirmed. TMZ first reported that the couple had split up and that things are “amicable” between them. As of now, neither has filed for divorce, according to the website, but they are living separately. “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” Reynolds said in a statement to MTV News. “We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.” Us Weekly reports that the split happened about two weeks ago and notes that “the big problem with their relationship is the distance,” a source said, adding, “They spent a lot of time apart when they are working. … She’s been unhappy for a while.” The pair married in 2008 in Canada after being engaged earlier that year, and while they remained relatively private, they have spoken about their love for each other. In the May issue of InStyle, Johansson opened up about being married to the “Green Lantern” star, saying, “I mean, you’re married, and suddenly you have your own family. There’s a nice comfort in that. That part of your life is certain, in a way. You’ve got your home in that other person.” At the Tony Awards in June, when she took the stage to accept her award, she gave a nod to her husband, thanking “the Canadian I live with.” Reynolds told GQ that the actress was “the best part” of his life and even joked about his People Sexiest Man Alive nod, explaining that Johansson would have a different way to ask him to do chores around the house. “Now it’s going to be, ‘Sexiest Man, take out the garbage,’ ” he laughed. “That does sound better.” Related Photos The Way They Were: Ryan Reynolds And Scarlett Johansson

T.I. Getting Smarter in Prison

T.I. may be a convicted felon who blew a second chance with a probation-violating arrest that nixed his early release, but the man is nothing if not inspirational. He’s effing tired of jail , but it sounds like he’s hanging in there. The release of his new album, No Mercy , which he finished before his 11-month sentence , helps. “So here it is. NO MERCY, the most honest and intimate installment of my life story as promised,” T.I. posted on his official site, which he somehow can update. Says the embattled rapper: “Hope ya’ll enjoy it and it lives up to the very high standards I’ve set for myself or anyone who’s considered to be one of the best.” Humble as always. The self-adulation continues: “I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art. But at the end of the day, if that’s what it takes to produce the music to keep the world of hip-hop evolving on its axis.” “Even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it.” “Thanks again for your prayers, your time, and attention. And remember… it doesn’t matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me. What matters is I’ll be a better man before that time comes. The longer I sit, the smarter I get .” “I’d like to give a very special thank you to the fans who’ve been writing me and lifting my spirits. I read all of them. I would never be able to write you all back, but I’d like to list as many of you individually as I can and thank the others collectively.” T.I. ends noting he does not consider himself “done” and is staying positive. He wants to be a “father to his kids,” a “husband to his wife” and “son to his mother.” Before his Nov. 1 surrender, T.I. not only completed the album, but he also shot a music video featuring Chris Brown for the album’s second single, “Get Back Up.” Sounds like his mantra for life – and what he told that suicidal guy.

T.I. Says He’ll ‘Be A Better Man’ In New Prison Letter

Rapper reflects on incarceration, No Mercy album and teases next LP in latest missive. By Gil Kaufman T.I. Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images At this time last year, T.I. was counting down the days to his release to a halfway house after winding down a prison term on gun possession charges. But another Christmas is about to pass and the King of the South (born Clifford Harris) will again celebrate from behind prison bars in an Arkansas lockup, where he’s in the midst of an 11-month sentence for violating his probation. With his latest album, No Mercy, out on Tuesday (December 7), Tip released a letter (posted to his website the same day) updating fans on his state of mind and reflecting on where he’s been, where he hopes to go and what he’s thinking about. “So here it is…NO MERCY, the most honest and intimate installment of my life story as promised,” he wrote of the album, recorded earlier this year as he was preparing to leave the halfway house and get back to his career after nine months behind bars. “Hope y’all enjoy it and it lives up to the very high standards I’ve set for myself or anyone who’s to be considered one of the best. I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art. But at the end of the day, if that’s what it takes to produce the music that keeps the world of hip-hop evolving on it’s axis….Then even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it. Thanks again for your prayers, your time and attention. And remember….It doesn’t matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me. What matters is that I’ll be a better man before that time comes. The longer I sit, the smarter I get.” Last month, the Atlanta MC penned a note in which he admitted he was tired of being in and out of prison . In this one, T.I. thanked fans who’ve been writing to him and lifting his spirits every day; he assured them he reads all of their missives and cherishes their kind words. And while he admitted he could never write them all back (though, at the end of the post, he included a long list of people who’d sent him letters), he gave them a collective shout-out. “It’s a relief to know that there still are people who see a man with a life and not just another headline in the news,” he said. “Most of you sound very concerned and optimistic at the same time about my situation. Let me assure you all that I am definitely keeping my head up. I don’t consider myself done by far. Also many of you are convinced as I am that God has a plan for me that he’s preparing me for. How do you tell God Almighty that all you wanna do is LIVE LIFE ??? What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when possible to those who need it most. Well guys…That’s the topic of discussion between me and the MOST HIGH at the moment. I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out.” He added that maybe he’d try to capture that dialogue between him and a higher power on his next album, putting those heavy internal discussions to music. In the meantime, Tip promised to reveal the title of the follow-up to No Mercy soon and encouraged his supporters to hang in there. What do you think of T.I.’s latest letter? Tell us in the comments. Drake Is ‘Compiling Some Great Raps’ For Take Care

Best New Artist Grammy nod is the award that means the most, he tells TheSource.com. By James Dinh Drake Photo: FilmMagic While Drake is still collecting accolades for his debut LP, Thank Me Later — including Grammy nods and the #7 spot on MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 list — he’s still got an eye to the future. The Toronto MC recently spoke to TheSource.com about beginning work on Take Care while also looking forward to February’s Grammy Awards. “I’m just back home in Toronto, working like we used to do it,” the rapper said. “Set up shop in [producer] 40’s apartment. It’s really early though, I’m excited. A lot of the stuff that is out there, and rumored about the album is just mostly me being out there with people and realizing what great dudes and what talented people they are.” The lyricist isn’t sure who will have a hand in assisting with the project, but he has a few people in mind including DJ Premier. “I mean, I met DJ Premier at Yankee Stadium and I never would’ve thought that he would want to work, the way he expressed it to me,” Drake said. “Me and 40 were just so honored that we are extremely excited to hear what we can all craft together.” Just last month, Drake told to MTV News that he had completed two tracks for the sophomore effort. He also revealed that the project may also feature a guest spot from his friend Justin Timberlake. “My thing is I just wanna spit, man,” he told TheSource. “I’ve really been compiling some great raps, and I just want to get them out. I feel like I have paint cans stored in the room, and I’m just waiting for those producers to bring the blank canvases in, so I can just splash paint and make it a beautiful thing, whoever it may be. At the end of the day, I’m sure it will be something enjoyable to listen to.” It’s just that inspiration that has caused fans and critics to take notice, earning the rapper four Grammy nods, including Best New Artist, which Drake called “the one award that means most to me” because “it lets people know how early in our relationship we still are.” So, how does Drake feel about vying against fellow Canadian Justin Bieber for the coveted award? “I think being in that category with such stiff competition is such a great time marker for me,” he said. “It really even reminded me how young I am in this. With me and Bieber, we are two artists that used two new forms of getting discovered. We were found on the Internet in a way more independent fashion [than the] way people used to be discovered. We weren’t found in a showcase and signed to a label; we were discovered on a very grassroots ground level tool which now runs the world. We are Internet first artists. To make it from playing an acoustic guitar in your living room, or to make it from 40’s apartment to the Grammys, it’s one of the most inspiring things of our generation.” Are you excited for Drake’s sophomore album? Elizabeth Edwards Stops Cancer Treatment; Releases Statement

December 6th, 2010 04:51 PM ET Elizabeth Edwards stops cancer treatment, releases statement mug.cnnpolitics By: CNN Political Unit (CNN) – Elizabeth Edwards is surrounded by family and friends in her North Carolina home after being informed by her doctors that further cancer treatment would be unproductive. “Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive,” the Edwards family said Monday in a statement. “She is resting at home with family and friends and has posted this message to friends on her Facebook page.” The message from Edwards, the wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards, reads: “You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And, yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. “But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know.” Edwards was told by her doctors last week that additional cancer treatments were futile, said a source close to the family. Her prognosis was described in terms of weeks, not months, the source said. She is receiving treatment and medications, however, for symptoms and side effects. “She is not in pain and all things considered there is a good vibe here,” said the source. “She has prepared for this” John Edwards and their children are at her side, along with Elizabeth's brother and sister. – CNN's John King and Raelyn Johnson contributed to this report added by: EthicalVegan

‘VH1 Divas’ Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj ‘Just Want To Have Fun’

Cyndi Lauper’s colorful classic perfectly suits the Perry’s and Minaj’s bright aesthetic. By Aly Semigran Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry perform for “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Cyndi Lauper wasn’t kidding when she boasted that “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” in 1983. On Sunday’s “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops,” 27 years after Lauper’s declaration, two of this generation’s fiercest female voices took over the oft-covered classic pop ode with a new kind of women’s lib. Nicki Minaj (who has already clearly drawn inspiration from Lauper, evident here with her puffy, white wig, colorful miniskirt, sky-high heels and blue tights) and Katy Perry (who opted to sport sexy camouflage garb, paired with a military-inspired hat) performed a slightly more sped-up, rock-and-roll version (though the tune’s synthesized chords were still very much present). (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops” .) The Young Money MC — who also rocked the stage solo — not only aesthetically resembled Lauper with her off-kilter fashion sense, but vocally as well. (Earlier in the night, Perry had gone even more retro when she joined Keri Hilson and Jennifer Nettles for a cover of the World War II-era hit “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”) The stage set-up, complete with a live band and a big screen showing images that like, totally channeled the ’80s, gave Minaj and Perry plenty of room to run around and, yes, have plenty of fun. With a display of sisterhood that included a strut down the catwalk, both girls (as well as a gaggle of colorfully dressed dancers shimmying behind them) fulfilled Lauper’s promise. The two hugged after the performance and gave the love right back to the audience, as Minaj cried, “Salute the troops!” to which Perry immediately complied. What did you think of Nicki Minaj’s and Katy Perry’s duet of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”? Let us know below in the comments section. Elephants on drunken rampage kill three people

Binge-drinking elephants, drunk on local hooch, have killed three people and destroyed 60 homes in a four-day rampage in east India. Yesterday they were reported by local officials to be sleeping off hangovers as shocked communities tried to clear the wreckage left by the 70-strong herd in remote villages on the borders of the states of Orissa and West Bengal. With a local festival approaching, villagers had stockpiled the fermented-rice based drink which is stored in earthenware vessels and, according to Bijay Kumar Panda, a local administrator, the elephants found and drank it. They then staggered through the surrounding area and began “to fall asleep hither and thither, throwing life completely haywire”. According to the Pioneer newspaper, the “jumbos” are known “for their love of local country-made brews” which they “gulp down and make merry at the expense of the villagers”. Elephant experts say such incidents are becoming more common. With pristine forest increasingly rare, especially in the area where this latest incident occurred, Indian elephants no longer avoid contact with humans, said Dr Amirtharaj Williams, Asian rhino and elephant programme co-ordinator for the World Wildlife Fund. “These herds are effectively semi-urbanised. There are elephants who are getting a taste for food that humans prepare because it is tastier, stronger-smelling and often more nutritious and that includes rice- or molasses-based drinks. Some go looking for it.” Around 400 people are killed each year by elephants in India and nearly a million hectares of farmland damaged. Around 100 elephants are killed by villagers each year. India's booming population and economic growth have placed the historic grazing lands of elephants under enormous pressure. To avoid exhausting fodder in one area, the herds migrate. Attempts to create safe corridors for the animals' travel have foundered on bureaucratic sloth and lack of enforcement. In September seven elephants were killed by a speeding goods train. Latest estimates put India's elephant population at around 21,000 – the largest in Asia. About half of these are found in north-eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. added by: device80
