Breaking: Jeff Zucker Steps Down at NBC

You won’t have Jeff Zucker to kick around anymore. According to the New York Times ‘ Bill Carter , Zucker sent an e-mail this morning to his employees informing them that he would set down as CEO of NBC Universal when the Comcast takeover of the company was complete. “Look, I knew from the day this was announced that this was a possibility,” Zucker told Carter. “I wasn’t going to shut the door on anything. But in the last nine months it became increasingly clear that [Comcast] did want to put their own team in place — and I didn’t want to end up being a guest in my own house.” Developing… [ NYT /Media Decoder ]

Jon Hamm has been hitting the promotional circuit hard this week, whether it be to play a little Poker Football with Jimmy Fallon or to talk to your mother’s favorite magazine about the crippling depression that affected his young adulthood. REVIEW: Howl Gives Allen Ginsberg’s Funky Genius the Collage Treatment

Filmmakers feel an understandable urge to rise to the occasion when committing the lives of ’60s saints and mold-busting mavericks like Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg to the screen. Dylan got Todd Haynes’s 2007 deconstruction of the biopic, I’m Not There (in which David Cross appears as Ginsburg in an indelible cameo). And now Ginsberg is the subject of Howl , a collagist treatment of his creation myth. Directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman began their account of the conception of Ginsburg’s titular declamatory opus and the 1957 obscenity trial that followed its publication as a straight documentary. After roughing out the usual talking heads and archival footage, it became clear to the directors of The Times of Harvey Milk (Epstein only) and The Celluloid Closet that the best way to honor their subject was to get a little funky.

Sarah Drew on the Secret of the Grey’s Anatomy Set, Glee and the Status of Mad Men’s Sal Romano

Even if you don’t know Sarah Drew, you know Sarah Drew. With appearances on Mad Men , Castle , Private Practice , Glee and many other top series over the course of the last few years, it’s no wonder Drew describes herself as a “Guest Star Queen.” That’s about to change though: With her regular role on Grey’s Anatomy — itself which started as a guest appearance — Drew is ready to take the next step in her career.

4 Reasons Why Kiernan Shipka (a.k.a. Sally Draper) Might Get an Emmy Nomination in 2011

Laugh all you want, but it’s true: Besides perhaps only Randee Heller — R.I.P. Ms. Blankenship — there hasn’t been a bigger breakout performer on Mad Men this season than Kiernan Shipka. Upped to a series regular for the first time, Shipka has handled her increasingly adult situations — ahem — with the aplomb of someone twice her age. It begs the incredibly, ridiculously premature question: Can little Sally Draper be an Emmy nominee in 2011? Ahead Movieline offers 4 reasons why that might not be as far-fetched as you think.

J.J. Abrams Shopping Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn Project

In April, Michael Emerson thought the idea of he and Terry O’Q uinn collaborating on a new show was far fetched, but admitted, “I think [O’Quinn has] gone so far as to half-seriously discuss it with various producer types.” Well, yeah, it now appears that “various producer types” included Lost producer J.J. Abrams. Vulture is reporting that Abrams and his studio, Bad Robot, are seriously pitching the idea of the former Linus and Locke playing one-time black-operatives in what’s described as a buddy comedy. (If anyone’s listening, my vote for a title is Locke and Loaded. ) [ Vulture ]

‘Jesus, What a Mess’: Mad Men Recapped

Every season of Mad Men has its defining WTF moment. Take Betty’s pellet-gun prowess in season one, or Freddy Rumsen’s pants-peeing in season two, or last season’s Great Lawnmower Foot Severing of 1963. The series wouldn’t be the same without these breathtaking, pitch-black detours into Mathew Weiner’s id (for better or worse), and the current season of the series wouldn’t be the same without its frequent journeys to that well for dramatic reckoning, comic relief and/or the sheer exhilaration of point-blank, old-fashioned shock. And if this year we’ve indeed seen both the best and the worst of what Mad Men has to offer, then it only fits that we have finally seen its weirdest. But was it worth it?

Mad Men: Death and the Maiden [Recaps]

This season of Mad Men has been about differentiating between the past and the future, Don’s struggle for redemption, and the women in his life. Finally, all those themes are starting to congeal into a very satisfying whole. More

If Jon Hamm Plays Superman, Will It Kill Don Draper?

“Those are sort of the Internet things that one person says and then 15 more people Twitter [it] and then it becomes this sort of phenomenon.” So said Jon Hamm earlier today on Live with Regis and Kelly when asked about the rumors that he’d don the red cape to star as Superman. Deep breath, Mad Men fans: we’re all in the clear, for now. But if this Internet meme becomes reality, would Superman kill Don Draper?
