Promoting Under the Influence: 9 Drunk Interviews From the Stars

It’s been a rough month for Bruce Willis, substance-wise. While promoting Cop Out on Good Morning America last month, the blazed actor could barely keep his eyes open for Robin Roberts. And then just last night, a journalist ran down the smashed actor at the Hornets/Lakers game, shoved a microphone in his face and asked him about March Madness and New Orleans music. Can’t a world-famous celebrity enjoy a night of boozy revelry without a follow-up interview? After the jump, Movieline recalls a few other stars who didn’t let a little thing like promotional obligations get in the way of a good buzz.

Paul Oakenfold On Working With Madonna, Brittany Murphy

Veteran DJ/producer has Cee-Lo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ryan Tedder lined up for next LP, Pop Killer. By Akshay Bhansali Madonna Photo: PictureGroup/ Evan Agostini When MTV News caught up with British DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold last weekend in Miami, he was right where we expected him to be: poolside at the Raleigh Hotel, both a fan and an artist amid the many revelers and dance-music industry types making their annual pilgrimage to the Winter Music Conference. Even for a dance-music icon, Oakenfold has seen and done it all: He’s toured around the world and worked with U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, New Order and dozens of other stars. He’s scored films and video games; he’s held club residencies in England, Spain and now Las Vegas. Still, with such a rich past, it was pleasing to hear Oakenfold say how exciting dance music is these days. “The great thing about Madonna, when I produced ‘Celebration,’ she understood that the way forward was through electronic music,” Oakenfold said. “Hats off to her for realizing that. With the rock singers, we’ve always been involved in some respect, because a lot of rock records have been remixed and done really well in Europe and the rest of the world. It’s more the urban world now is knocking on the DJ’s door.” For proof of the latter statement, look no further than the work of French DJ/Producer David Guetta, 1634864 who’s recently worked with the Black Eyed Peas (“I Gotta Feeling”), Akon (“Sexy Chick”), Kid Cudi (“Memories”), and Kelly Rowland (“When Love Takes Over”). For Oakenfold, it’s all par for the course. Over the years he’s worked on songs with Nelly Furtado, Pharrell Williams, Ice Cube and even the late, legendary writer Hunter S. Thompson. And he’s got a similar team of A-listers on his forthcoming album, Pop Killer. “I have some interesting people, actually,” he said. “From the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic, and Cee-Lo, who’s in Gnarls Barkley.” Not appearing on the album but certainly another notable name that the producer worked with is the late actress Brittany Murphy , whose Oakenfold-helmed dance hit “Faster Kill Pussycat” (from the producer’s 2006 Lively Mind LP) was a showcase for the actress’ largely overlooked talent as a singer. “That song did really well,” Oakenfold said. “It’s a shame, because she was not only a wonderful person but a fantastic vocalist. She was very open to embracing someone else’s material, and she was the first actress I had worked with in terms of directing and producing a piece of music. She was very open-minded. The world never got to hear how good of a singer she really was.” Related Videos Sights And Sounds From Winter Music Conference 2010 Related Artists Madonna Paul Oakenfold

Lady Gaga Tour Losing Money

Lady Gaga New York Magazine published an article on singer Lady Gaga, now being called Lady CaCa and alternatively Lady HaHa online, due to her odd antics and strange, contrived fashion sense and in it they revealed the person behind the persona dressed and behaved nothing like the singer we see today. The article accurately paints her as a creation of producer and then boyfriend, Rob Fusari, who has since sued her for $30 million dollars, in a breach of contract dispute, regarding the 20% stake he holds in her company. The article gives a very unflattering glimpse at Gaga, who stated, “I don’t like Los Angeles. The people are awful and terribly shallow, and everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to play the game. I’m from New York. I will kill to get what I need .” In a related item, it was reported her current tour, that has angered parents in Australia, due to its vulgar language and crass sexual content, is actually in the red, as Gaga is demanding a costly stage show that does not recoup its costs after ticket sales. Lady Gaga: The Early Years March 29, 2010, 12:15 PM ET – …Among the noteworthy details: Gaga’s current tour is reportedly losing money (as much as $3 million, according to insiders cited in the piece) because she refuses to cut corners on the elaborate stage show… Grigoriadis on Gaga’s interview presentation: “Gaga spoke carefully in a very odd accent—some combination of Madonna as Madge and a robot, an affect enhanced by the fact that she refused to remove her lightly tinted sunglasses over the course of two hours.” Gaga on her diet: “Pop stars should not eat.” Former Gaga producer Rob Fusari on her fashion faux-pas: “Gaga wasn’t into fashion at this point: She liked leggings and sweatshirts, maybe with a shoulder out. “A couple times, she came to the studio in sweatpants, and I said, ‘Really, Stef?’ ” says Fusari. “ ‘What if I had Clive Davis in here today? I should call the session right now. Prince doesn’t pick up ice cream at the 7-Eleven looking like Chris Rock.”… http://blogs.wsj.com Growing Up Gaga http://nymag.com Continue reading

Snooki Fave DJ Kaskade Talks Tiesto Collabo At WMC 2010

House DJ reveals how a tweet from the ‘Jersey Shore’ star boosted his fanbase. By Akshay Bhansali, with additional reporting by Adam Stewart Kaskade Photo: MTV News MIAMI — With a series of notable remixes over the years for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Nelly Furtado, progressive house-music DJ and producer Kaskade has become a force to be reckoned with in the electronic music world. He’s had several songs on the Billboard Hot Dance char and amassed a considerable fanbase. And then one fine day, “Jersey Shore” cast member Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, decided to tweet about a song she was listening to. “She’s a fan of my music which was really cool,” Kaskade (a.k.a. Ryan Raddon) told MTV News on Thursday at the Winter Music Conference . “I actually found out through Twitter. I saw her on Twitter. She was talking about, ‘Oh, I was just sitting back listening to my favorite Kaskade mix.’ And I was like, ‘Snooki, isn’t that the girl on “Jersey Shore”?’ “I don’t watch a lot of television so I didn’t really know,” he admitted. “I hadn’t seen the show yet, and my friends are like, ‘Yeah, yeah, moron! Whatever!’ But it’s interesting. man, after she mentioned me on Twitter, it was like thousands of more [fans] within a week of her Twittering about me, and it was amazing. But that’s what’s cool about dance music, you never know. The teller at the bank listens to it, and so does Snooki, so it’s cool.” DJ Tiesto, another artist who’s certainly on Snooki’s radar and worshipped by virtually every person in attendance at WMC this week, also is a fan of Kaskade’s work. And to prove it, the Dutch trance titan did something he’s seldom ever done: He co-produced a song with Kaskade called “Only You,” which is making its debut in DJ sets around WMC this week. “My sound and Tiesto’s sound, they are actually quite different, but there is some similarity to it,” Kaskade said. “I think melodically it makes a lot of sense, even though our production styles are very different, and it’s cool that he can recognize that. He’s always been a big supporter of my music, but he reached out to me, and I was like, ‘Dude, yeah, let’s do this, let’s kill it.’ I’m just really happy with the way it turned out.” Kaskade is set to release his album Dynasty on May 11. And given the recent string of dance music hits on mainstream radio, he’s upbeat about his prospects. “There was a little creeping up there in the ’80s and early ’90s with Deee-lite, and Madonna was voguing, and it was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this gonna happen?’ ” he recalled. “But the timing wasn’t right yet. When Lady Gaga did it, we were all like, ‘Cool.’ This really is our time.” Stick with MTV News all week for more coverage of the Winter Music Conference 2010. Women With Fake Boobs: Big NO-NO In The New Movie Pirates of the Caribbean

filmofilia Women with fake boobs are a big No-NO in the new movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Makers of the said film banned women with faux bossoms from applying for a role in the next megahit. The director of this fourth installment,Rob Marshall, gave a very strict set of credentials demanded to casting directors saying that the film-makers were seeking “beautiful female fit models. Must be 5ft 7in – 5ft 8in, size 4 or 6, no bigger or smaller. Age 18-25. Must have a lean dancer body. Must have real breasts. Do not submit if you have implants.” The film-makers from “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” said that potential actresses are expected to go through a “test” to verify whether their breasts are fake or in fact the real deal. The specifics of the “test” haven’t been disclosed yet. A former casting agent was quoted as saying “In the last movie there were enhanced breasts to give that 18th-century whoreish look and men were pretty well padded, too, and no one worried but times are changing and the audience can spot false breasts.” Keira Knightley, now 24, who was 18 when she was filmed the first installment of movie, revealed her previous experience, saying: “I am not that well endowed so they literally painted in my cleavage. It took about 45 minutes every day for make-up artists to add shade and volume and it looked fantastic until it got too hot shooting. Then the make-up would start smearing and the lines running away.” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is due to be released in May 2011. ‘The Runaways’ Director Would Love To Make ‘Surreal’ Lady Gaga Video

‘She’d be fun. She’s quite theatrical,’ says prolific music-video director Floria Sigismondi. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Gabriel Bouys/ Getty Images “The Runaways” is Floria Sigismondi’s feature film directorial debut, but she has been directing music videos since 1993’s “A Certain Slant of Light” by the Tea Party. In the nearly two decades since, she’s helmed a number of influential and high-profile videos for everyone from Marilyn Manson (“Beautiful People”) to the White Stripes (“Blue Orchid”) to Christina Aguilera (“Fighter), just to name a few. Most recently, the prolific director shot the video for “Let It Rain” for the Living Things, the band fronted by her husband, Lillian Berlin. While she’s currently trying to figure out her next film project might be, Sigismondi said that she wouldn’t mind shooting a music video for Lady Gaga. The pop star’s nearly 10-minute clip for “Telephone,” which references everything from prison films to Madonna to Andy Warhol, finally has people talking about videos again. “She’d be fun. She’s quite theatrical,” Sigismondi told MTV News on the red carpet of the New York premiere for “The Runaways.” “I don’t know, but I kind of grew up with costumes all my life, so I would go in there and do something kind of surreal maybe.” And while she would love to concoct a treatment for Gaga, Sigismondi is also looking to follow up her rock biopic with something different. “I think I’ll probably go into some fiction,” she explained. “A little, kind of, made-up worlds and a little more fantastical.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Runaways.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
