By Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber surprises a band camp in Florida Photo: Gerardo Mora/ Getty Images If you were in the Sanford, Florida, area Thursday (August 5) and heard the screams of hysterical teenagers, don’t fret. It was probably just the passionate yelps of students at Seminole High School, who were granted a surprise show from none other than singer and inducer of mass tween mania, Justin Bieber. The Biebs dropped by Seminole High to present the school with a $5,000 donation from the Grammy Foundation and Best Buy to support music education. The singer strummed the guitar, pounded the drums and chatted with students, who were attending a summer band camp, according to reports . “The students had no idea I was coming, and it was fun to completely surprise them,” Bieber said in a statement . “I was excited about this opportunity to team up with Best Buy and the Grammy Foundation to raise awareness around the important cause of funding music education programs in schools. I talked to students about pursuing their passion in music and encouraging them to keep doing what they’re doing.” Bieber also shared the experience with his more than 4 million Twitter followers, revealing that he battled illness to make the surprise appearance. “I actually got sick in the middle of the show and they wanted to cancel but the show must go on and the fans gave me my second [wind],” Bieber tweeted . The singer added that the energy from his Beliebers, especially the female ones, helped get him through the performance. “Been sick all day…but we are toughing through it. SOUTH FLORIDA…the girls….Im feeling better :)” The singer even gave a shout-out one lucky fan in particular: “So thank u to everyone for being so incredible tonight…and @meganburrier i hope we gave u a good surprise :).” What would you do if Justin Bieber dropped by your school? Nicki Minaj Says Pink Friday Is ‘Progressing Miraculously’

‘It’s coming out way better than I could even have imagined,’ Minaj says of debut album. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj’s Barbie army is likely to create a frenzy at stores when the rapper drops her debut LP, Pink Friday, on November 23. Speaking to MTV News on the video set of her Trey Songz collabo, “Bottoms Up,” the Young Money diva updated her fans about how the album is coming along. “The album is progressing miraculously, I would say,” Minaj said. “It’s coming out way better than I could even have imagined or dreamed or hoped for.” The Queens MC has made her mark with a slew of collaborations, from her girl-power breakup anthem with Mariah Carey, “Up Out My Face,” to the sexed-up bars she dropped on Usher’s “Lil Freak.” However, the raptress revealed that she’s enjoying the process of creating solo records, where she is the main focus and not just the memorable feature. “It’s been very exciting to finally just make music that I love and not really having to incorporate myself on someone else’s record,” Minaj said. “I’ve been having a really great time.” Minaj also singled out a Pink Friday track that she said has the potential to be a major hit. “I have a record called ‘Right Through Me’ that I think will be a standout,” Minaj said. “It’s not gonna come right now. It’ll come closer to when the album drops, but it’s a really, really pretty song. Everyone’s gonna like it.” The MC also discussed the appeal of the record, saying, “It’s just really insightful but in a very conversational kind of way.” Minaj also said she’s been mulling how the album cover for her debut will shape up and only revealed that it will be “very fetch.” While the MC remained mum on the details, she did speak about what makes an eye-catching cover. “[A good album cover is] something that tells your own personal truth,” said Minaj, citing Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die cover as one of her favorites. “Something that’s not just trying to catch someone’s attention, but rather … kind of feels like a part of your soul, a part of your creative expression.” What are you expecting for Nicki’s debut? Brittany Murphy’s Husband Also Died From Pneumonia

Simon Monjack succumbed to the same illness as his late wife, final autopsy results show. By Mawuse Ziegbe Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack Photo: Riccardo Savi/ WireImage Brittany Murphy’s husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack, died within months of his late wife — and from the same illness. Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials announced Wednesday (August 4) that Monjack succumbed to pneumonia, just like Murphy, who died from the condition late last year. Monjack, 40, died in May at the couple’s Hollywood home, five months after Murphy, 32, was found in the same house in December 2009. He was reportedly discovered by Murphy’s mother, Sharon, who also found her daughter’s body. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The Associated Press that, although prescription medications were present in his system, the drugs did not contribute to his death. Monjack, who wrote the 2000 movie “Two Days, Nine Lives,” was initially thought to have died of cardiac arrest. In February, a coroner’s report revealed that Murphy, who shot to fame in films such as “Clueless,” “8 Mile” and “Sin City,” died from a mix of pneumonia, anemia and prescription medication. The findings dispelled rumors that the actress abused illegal drugs or alcohol . Winter told the AP that the deaths were referred to county health officials and said that, in both cases, tragedy could have been avoided. “In simple English, they didn’t take care of themselves,” Winter said. “They didn’t seek medical advice from a doctor. Brittany could have survived if she had gone to a hospital, and Simon I think could have done the same.” Murphy and Monjack reportedly met when the actress was a teenager and quietly married years later in 2007 after a low-profile courtship. The MC revealed that his latest track, “Jizzle,” is a return to the street-friendly club bangers he’s known for. “I had to get back in the lab and do what I do and that’s keep the club and the streets just straight off the chain, and ‘Jizzle’ was all that,” Jeezy said. “[Previous single] ‘Lose My Mind’ was like the appetizer. Meet Kevin Todd: ‘The Hills’ Castmember You’ve Never Heard Of

Event producer recounts his many quiet appearances over ‘The Hills’ six seasons: ‘I am pretty stealthy!’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Kevin Todd Photo: MTV News Although you may not recognize him at first, Kevin Todd has been a part of many of the biggest moments of “The Hills.” He was standing by when Heidi and Lauren had that huge blow-up over that rumored LC sex tape. He witnessed the drama when Justin Bobby made out with another girl in front of Audrina. He was part of the festivities at the ladies’ 2006 New Year’s Eve bash and he has even presented Lauren with a cake at her birthday. He’s the tall guy with the beanie who has popped up in many different scenes throughout “The Hills,” or as he puts it, “I’m the guy that’s always around, but never around.” Viewers have tossed out a range of ideas about just who this mystery guy is. “Fans are always speculating that maybe I’m a producer, a publicist, a body guard, or maybe I’m Batman!” Todd said. And now that “The Hills” is wrapping up , it’s time to reveal his true identity. Todd is an event producer who has had a hand in organizing some of the fabulous events where the “Hills” girls often find themselves running into drama. He’s a Taurus and, in his own words, he’s “a generally nice guy.” Now he can add “credited castmember” to his r

Flo Rida Records Unofficial Miami Heat Anthem

Inspired by LeBron James’ arrival, the Florida MC says he hopes ‘We Already Won’ will ‘get the city hype.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Flo Rida in the studio recording “We Already Won” Photo: Peter Bailey/Andy Boy Genius/Niteside/NBC Miami Heat fans have been celebrating ever since NBA phenom LeBron James announced his move to the Florida team last week. (After ‘Bron made his announcement, Miami’s DJ Irie described the mania in the city in an email to MTV News: “Miami is literally in a frenzy right now! Leftover fireworks from the Fourth of July are going off left and right.”) Now, one of the state’s hitmaking stars has hit the studio to record a track to help Heat fans get their party on. Flo Rida jumped in the lab to make “We Already Won,” a banger that he dubs an unofficial anthem for the Miami Heat. Flo broke down the creation of the song to NBC Miami’s Niteside blog . “Being a part of the Poe Boy family, we always trying to do something to get the city hype,” Flo said. “So I called my colleagues Billy Blue, Brianna, Desloc [Piccalo], Ball Greezy, Brisco. We just trying to build up the morale of Dade County. Having LeBron come in, having [Chris] Bosh come in, we think that’s a great thing. So we just got in the studio and did what we always do — go in there and make a great record.” The Florida rapper, who’s broken chart records with party-starting hits like “Right Round,” also chopped it up for the blog about his next album, which he’s expecting to drop in the fall. Flo talked to MTV News last month about crafting the David Guetta-produced jam “Club Can’t Handle Me,” which will be featured on the LP, as well as the “Step Up 3-D” soundtrack. “It’s called The Only One,” Flo told NBC Miami, adding that the buzz surrounding the Heat’s new lineup is inspiring his latest effort. “It definitely feels special for the fact that we got LeBron and this crazy team, you know, [Dwyane] Wade and everybody.” Who else would you like to hear take a stab at a Miami Heat anthem? ‘The Hills’ Fans React To Series Finale

‘It was creative,’ says one fan of twist in show’s final scene. ‘I think it kept people talking.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Audrina Patridge on the final episode of “The Hills” Photo: MTV The final half-hour of “The Hills” saga wasn’t brimming with the over-the-top drama fans had come to expect from the series. But a shocking twist at the end of the finale left many viewers with lingering questions. After the final pained goodbye between Brody and Kristin, the “Hills” diva didn’t ride off into the sunset as expected. Instead, a fake backdrop emblazoned with the “Hollywood” sign was rolled away and cameras pulled back to reveal a movie lot, as Kristin hopped out of the car — that should have taken her to the airport — and embraced Brody in a bear hug. The ending left fans wondering just how much of the reality show, which had captivated millions of viewers for years, was real. While some “Hills” followers liked the twist, others weren’t so impressed. “It was creative,” Reyna commented on MTVNews.com. “I think it kept people talking.” LawGirl83 agreed, writing, “I knew it! That final [scene] was spectacular.” “I love the hills alot! The ending was great but goodbyes are always sad!” Kristina Bergmann wrote on the “The Hills” Facebook page . “Kristin almost made me cry when she was with Brody saying good bye!” “FREAKIN LOVED THE ENDING!!!!!!” Lauren Windey wrote. However, many fans were simply puzzled. Noelle Ciemny wrote on Facebook, “I was so confused,” adding, “I wish brody and kristen would be together theyre [adorable] together.” Kianna Green wondered, “Was it all fake?” while Joey Jakira Blum wrote, “I just dont understand why or what the point of the ending was.” Others, like Maya Willis, were conflicted about the show’s final moments. “I was taken aback by the end scene, but honestly, how could you not know the show had its scripted and staged moments?” she wrote on Facebook, adding, “I do believe that there were some real emotions shown throughout the show and real arguments.” Some strongly criticized the ambiguity of the ending. “[I] thought they should have answered the question straight up. The fans deserve to know!!” Nikah2o posted on our website. Still, for many fans, the way the show wrapped up wasn’t as important as the fact that “The Hills” is gone for good. An anonymous poster on The Hills Gossip Online blog wrote, “I’m going to miss the hills!” “I [choked] up a little,” Suraya wrote on MTVNews.com. “It really ended,” she added, tagging a sad-face emoticon onto her post. Nicolas Cage’s Bruce Lee Homage Cut From ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’

Director Jon Turteltaub let his star take him to ‘some wild places,’ but not all of them actually worked. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nicolas Cage Photo: MTV News Oh, Nicolas Cage, you wonderfully wacky man! Who else has to tell a group of reporters that he honestly never hired a voodoo priestess to break a hex on a movie set? Who can start a conversation about irascible filmmaker Werner Herzog’s directorial style by saying, “Werner doesn’t really know a lot about jazz”? Who else could tell David Letterman a story about taking mushrooms with a cat named Louis? What would Hollywood (and those of us who write about it) do without Nic Cage? The town would be a much less compelling place, that’s for certain. Yet there is a flip side to the actor’s madcap worldview. As “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” director Jon Turteltaub told MTV News, a great majority of the ideas Cage brings to a set are simply too nutso to consider. “What’s a big percentage, 60? 70?” Turteltaub laughed. “Here’s the thing with Nic: Sometimes the ideas are completely insane and off-the-wall, but you still do them, because you can be wrong, and in the context of the film, you never know when it might actually be brilliant. “Nic made me promise before this movie that I would just let him lead me on a crazy adventure through this character,” added Turteltaub, who has also directed Cage in two “National Treasure” movies. “And I said, ‘OK, I’ll go there.’ He brought me to some wild places.” But one improvisatory moment in particular was just too weird to include in the final cut of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” in which Cage stars as immortal magician Balthazar Blake, who does mystical battle against archenemy Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). The incident took place during a scene in which Balthazar and Horvath converge in an NYU public bathroom for a plasma-bolt-filled throwdown. “At one point, Nic went into a whole Bruce Lee routine,” Turteltaub said. “We were like, ‘Oh, that’s great. Do that more.’ Cut, cut. … It won’t be on the DVD!” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Lady Gaga Upsets Beatles Fans By Playing John Lennon’s Piano

Lennon’s son Sean posted a photo of Gaga playing the piano, later removing it after fans complained. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga plays John Lennon’s white piano Photo: Sean Lennon/ Twitpic Lady Gaga has once again stirred up fans with another one of her unique performances. However, this time, it’s not her little monsters who are getting riled up but rather fans of John Lennon, who are upset that Gaga played the late Beatles legend’s white piano. The brouhaha began when Lennon’s son Sean posted a picture of Lady Gaga tinkling the ivories — in a skimpy bodysuit and fishnet stockings — on his Twitter page , accompanied by the caption, “With gaga at mom’s house, she’s belting on the white piano.” Sean later removed the picture after fans complained that Gaga shouldn’t have been allowed to jam on the instrument, which was a gift to Lennon’s wife and Sean’s mother, Yoko Ono. One tweeter in particular blasted Sean , writing, “WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN’S PIANO? I’m disappointed,” capping off the tweet with a frowning emoticon. The tweeter insisted Gaga was not up to snuff and later added, “Would you let just anyone play it? I mean geez, c’mon.” Although he removed the offending pic, Sean defended Gaga from the haters. “Pianos meant are to be played. Why is everyone so uptight? What should we do, lock it away in a dusty room? So judgmental,” Sean tweeted . The musician also replied to another fan, insisting that John wouldn’t be bothered by Gaga taking to the keys. “Firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers, secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be,” Sean tweeted. Ultimately, the musician called for the offended fans to calm down and focus on other issues. “Come on, lighten up … life’s too short, there’re enough real problems in the world.” Are John Lennon’s fans being “uptight,” or is the piano too sacred to be played by current pop stars? Sound off in the comments. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga John Lennon The Beatles
