Clipse’s Pusha T Readying Solo Mixtape Fear of God

The Virgina rapper will drop a tape on September 14, as rumors swirl that he’ll also join Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music collective. By Mawuse Ziegbe Pusha T Photo: Neilson Barnard/ Getty Images Clipse’s Pusha T is preparing to make a move as a solo artist with the release of a new mixtape set to drop in the fall. Clipse manager Steve Victor confirmed to MissInfo.tv that Pusha has set a September 14 release date for his solo tape. The Virginia MC even shouts out the title, Fear of God, in his “Bidding War” freestyle, which recently surfaced on the Web. The mixtape due date is an intriguing choice as rumors have been swirling that Push might be joining Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music collective, many of whom — ‘Ye, Kid Cudi, Consequence and Big Sean — are dropping albums on the same day. Pusha T, with his brother and partner-in-rhyme, Malice, dropped their latest album, Til the Casket Drops, on December 8, 2009 , a date also crowded by a spate of new hip-hop releases from artists such as Gucci Mane and Snoop Dogg. While readying the release of Casket, Push opened up to MTV News about his favorite track on the album. ” ‘Freedom’ is a redemption song,” Push told us. “It’s an apology; it gives a rhyme and reason for some of the things and some of the attitudes of the Clipse. It says ‘sorry’ just as much as it says we’re better [than other rappers], and we’re still the best … ever.” Malice has also been keeping busy. The MC recently released the video short “This Is Only a Test,” in which he weaves spiritual rhetoric into his narrative about a man grappling with street life. Clipse are also scheduled to hit the stage at this year’s Rock the Bells Tour , kicking off August 21. Are you surprised Pusha T is going solo on his next effort? Tell us in the comments! 50 Cent Attacked By Fan Onstage In Brazil

Fan tackles Fif during performance of ‘Ayo Technology.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe 50 Cent (file) Photo: Getty Images 50 Cent is known for getting involved in beef with other hip-hop artists, and at least one of the star’s followers appears to have been influenced by the rapper’s aggro persona. Video of a fan bum-rushing the rapper during a performance in Brazil was posted on RapRadar.com . The footage shows the attacker briefly clutching the rapper before being taken down by security. About midway through his performance of “Ayo Technology,” a fan in a hat and jeans runs onstage and grabs 50 as the rapper leads the crowd in an amped-up rendition of his Justin Timberlake-assisted hit. However, security is right on the heels of the fan and quickly tackles and slams the attacker onto the ground. A man in a white T-shirt (identified in some Web reports as G-Unit member Lloyd Banks) then gets in a few punches before the attacker is hauled offstage. Although he appears somewhat shaken up at first, 50 barely misses a beat and continues to spit the rest of the song, despite the melee. 50 Cent recently embarked on the Invitation Tour in the U.S., and afterward, the star and his G-Unit crew headed to Brazil on Friday for a string of dates. Overzealous stage-jumpers aside, 50 said fans can expect a lot of variety from his upcoming stage shows. “Because of the technology, there’s no real mystique to your actual performance anymore. After the first show, that’s gonna be on YouTube. So I have to keep changing the set so that it’s not the same show every night,” 50 told Cleveland.com. “I got so much material, I could actually perform for three hours straight, so it’s easier for me to make the decision to change music than a newer artist that doesn’t have that kind of catalog, where they can keep switching songs to play music that people are going to enjoy.” Related Artists 50 Cent

Martin Lawrence Marries Longtime Girlfriend

Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy among guests at wedding of funnyman and Shamicka Gibbs. By Mawuse Ziegbe Shamicka Gibbs and Martin Lawrence (file) Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage Comedian and actor Martin Lawrence tied the knot over the weekend. The funnyman married his longtime girlfriend, Shamicka Gibbs, on Saturday at his Beverly Hills home. People magazine reports that 120 guests, including Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and fellow comedian Eddie Murphy, watched the pair swap vows. The couple’s daughters served as flower girls and guests celebrated the nuptials under a tent in Lawrence’s backyard. In addition to getting married, Lawrence has been mulling a different kind of pairing on the big screen. The star revealed to MTV News earlier this year that he might team up with Will Smith for another installment of the action-packed “Bad Boys” series. “I got Big Willie to come down and see me about the movie. I felt special,” Lawrence told MTV News in April. “Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice. I met with [director] Michael Bay, and he said he’s onboard too — so it’s real.” Lawrence said the decision to bring the buddy-cop series back to theaters is in the hands of a Hollywood bigwig. “We’re just waiting on [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it’s really real.” In an interview with MTV News the following month, Bruckheimer seemed open to the idea of a Mike Lowery-Marcus Burnett reunion. “We’re talking about it,” Bruckheimer said. “Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we’ve been working on a script, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

Kanye West Drops By King Tut Exhibition In Times Square

‘He said it was something he really wanted to see,’ an exhibition rep tells MTV News of ‘Ye’s visit. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kanye West (file) Photo: Dominique Charriau/WireImage With his next album on the way, Kanye West sightings have increased in recent months. Fresh off of a performance at the 2010 BET Awards, Yeezy braved legions of screaming kids and befuddled tourists in New York City’s Times Square to view the King Tut exhibition at the Discovery Times Square Exposition. “He said it was something he really wanted to see,” exhibition rep Alison Buchbinder told MTV News about West’s visit. ‘Ye was snapped checking out artifacts like the gilded coffins of Egyptian pharaohs. Buchbinder said West dropped by on June 29, which would have been two days after the Chicago MC spit his latest single “Power” atop a mountain at the BET Awards. West showed up to the museum rocking a mammoth gold chain — the same bling he sported during his awards show performance — that features a sculptural representation of the Egyptian god Horus. But it appears ‘Ye’s interest in the pharaohs exhibition might have something to do with his upcoming work. A day before his King Tut visit, the star posted several pictures of his Horus chain and pyramid ring on his KanyeWest.com website. A caption accompanying the images reads: “Horus is one of the oldest and most significant deities in the Ancient Egyptian religion, who was worshipped from at least the late Predynastic period through to Greco-Roman times. Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being the god of the Sky, god of War and god of Protection.” And West has been toying with other images of royalty in his recent work. The illustrated cover art for West’s single “Power” features the severed head of a monarch with a gilded crown impaled by a sword. Have you checked out the King Tut exhibit? Can you see why Kanye might be inspired by it? Share your thoughts in the comments! Related Artists Kanye West

Amy Winehouse Gives Surprise Performance At Mark Ronson Gig

Singer croons ‘Valerie’ but flubs lyrics at London show. By Mawuse Ziegbe Amy Winehouse performs with Mark Ronson July 6 in London Photo: Samir Hussein/ Getty Images Amy Winehouse surprised concertgoers in London on Tuesday night during a show with Back to Black producer Mark Ronson . The soul singer joined Ronson, who was fronting his new outfit Mark Ronson & the Business Intl, onstage for a cozy concert at the 100 Club, the BBC reports. The Grammy-winning singer hung out with Ronson throughout the latter half of the set while the producer debuted songs from his forthcoming album; however, the star only took to the mic during an encore. Winehouse belted “Valerie” from Ronson’s 2007 collection of covers, Version, but apparently forgot the lyrics to the doo-wop number. Winehouse also seemed to be up to her familiar antics offstage as well. Bedecked in an extremely low-cut tank that showed off her lacy bra, with a scarf holding back her mussy bouffant, the “Rehab” singer was snapped swilling beer. The U.K.’s Daily Mail published photos of the star after the show with a packet of cigarettes stuffed in her bra. Although Winehouse appears to be easing her way back onto the stage, Ronson revealed to the U.K.’s Sun tabloid that progress on the singer’s Back to Black follow-up remains slow. “Amy hasn’t been working on her next record,” Ronson told the paper, adding that he does plan to work with the singer on her upcoming project. “When she’s got 10 songs, then we’ll go down to the studio together.” However, Ronson did mention that Winehouse has been recording. “We just did a song together last month for a Quincy Jones tribute album that’s coming out fairly soon.” Winehouse appears to be staging a full-fledged return to the spotlight. The Ronson performance follows reports that the singer plans to form a supergroup with the Roots drummer ?uestlove . Are you looking forward to Winehouse’s return to music? Rick Ross’ ‘Maybach Music 3’ Video To Be Directed By Erykah Badu

Along with Badu’s vocals, T.I. and Jadakiss are also featured on the track. By Mawuse Ziegbe Rick Ross Photo: Akshay Bhansali Rick Ross has enlisted Erykah Badu to helm the upcoming video for his song, “Maybach Music 3,” he announced on his Twitter page. “@fatbellybella will be directing the video #maybachmusic lll ft.@tip, @Therealkiss….#classic,” Ross revealed in the tweet, shouting out T.I. and Jadakiss, who make guest appearances on “Maybach Music 3.” Badu also lends her vocals to the track. This is not the first time Badu and the Bawse have collaborated. After jumping on a remix of Badu’s “Window Seat,” Ross confirmed to MTV News that the Dallas diva and the Miami MC were working together on a video for the track. “I had to come get the queen,” Ross said about the “Window Seat” remix clip, which picks up where Badu’s controversial vid leaves off. “It was only right. I was swerving through Dallas in that Porsche Panorama turbo. I had to slide up on her, scoop her up. We got back to business. We went on another caper.” While Badu is spending more time behind the lens with “Maybach Music 3,” Ross has been logging time in front of the camera with a slew of videos in the works. The MC told MTV News about his video plans for “Blowin’ Money Fast (B.M.F.),” “MC Hammer” and the Kanye West-produced “Live Fast, Die Young,” which Ross wants acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee to direct. “When I was in Hawaii, me and Kanye did a different kind of record, and it may take a different kind of director,” Ross said. “I had a private get-together in Miami. Spike came out, we discussed a few things. It’s one of those things [that] I call ‘speaking it into existence.’ I feel once I put something in my mind, I can accomplish it.” Are you looking forward to the Badu-directed “Maybach Music 3” video? ‘Predators’ Star Adrien Brody Reveals Fiery Effects Scene

‘Explosions are happening and you’re running through walls of fire,’ the actor says of on-set effects. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Adrien Brody Photo: MTV News “I know that I’m not one of the guys on the studio’s list for this movie,” Adrien Brody told MTV News in March of his starring role in “Predators” . But his craft and his commitment to the role — he packed on 25 pounds of muscles to play ex-military man Royce — convinced director Nimrod Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez that the Oscar-winning Brody was in fact the right guy for “Predators.” They wanted to find a balance between a Schwarzenegger-esque action hero and a more grounded take on what a modern-day solider actually looks like . That emphasis on realism extended from the cast to the actual production, which eschewed CGI fireworks for a practical approach to effects work. Almost everything you’ll see in the film — from furious explosions to out-of-control fires as Royce and his crew battle those vicious alien predators — was executed on set rather than within the safe confines of a computer. And even with that extra weight on his frame, those practical effects made for a harrowing shoot. “Explosions are happening and you’re running through walls of fire with flame-retardant gels on,” Brody told us recently. “It’s hot. You see the flame bursts.” One scene in particular, in which Royce finds himself caught in the laser sights of the aliens, required such an inferno that the entire crew had to don protective gear just to get it done. “That epic shot — it’s also a great trailer moment — where all the lasers are on us and on Royce , we shot that indoors in the studio space and the entire crew had respirators on and masks,” Brody said. “It was supposedly not hazardous, but I doubt it.” Not that he’s complaining. “I think it creates a very exciting environment,” he added. “You’ve got to do it and get the hell out of there.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Predators.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Lil’ Kim Says Collabo With Rihanna Is ‘Probably In The Works’

‘I’m 90 percent sure that a song is probably in the works,’ Kim says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lil’ Kim Photo: Getty Images Hip-hop diva Lil’ Kim is looking to collaborate with pop princess Rihanna. The MC recently opened up to Australia’s Lifelounge about her dream collaboration and singled out the chart-topping singer as an artist she’d like to work with. “I’m a huge [Rihanna] fan and she’s a friend of mine, so I’m almost guessing — if I had to guess — I’m 90 percent sure that a song is probably in the works,” Kim told the magazine’s website , hinting that she and Rihanna may have already touched base about teaming up on a record. However, Kim said that she’s not stressing the potential collaboration and wants to spring the track on the world if, and when, the time is right. “I look at it this way: If it happens, it happens. And it should be a surprise. It shouldn’t be something that people are anticipating, or have their own personal opinions on it before it even comes out,” the rapper said. Whether or not a Kim/Rihanna collabo jumps off, the MC maintained that she has a lot of love for the singer. “I think she’s great.” The potential collaboration is just another Lil’ Kim matchup that has been thrown around. Earlier this year, Ludacris said that Kim and Nicki Minaj should hook up for a track and end the drama between the two femcees. “I think if Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj do a record together it’s gonna kill the entire industry,” Luda told MTV News last month . “You don’t have that many women in the industry so the lane is wide open.” Would you like to see Lil’ Kim join forces with Rihanna? ‘Last Airbender 2’ Will Be ‘Darker,’ M. Night Shyamalan Says

Sequel has not been green-lit, but writer/director already has two scripts in the works. By Brian Warmoth M. Night Shyamalan Photo: MTV News If a $53.3 million holiday weekend proves successful enough to keep M. Night Shyamalan around for a “Last Airbender” sequel, he knows what he wants to do — and he wants to do it darkly. Asked about his intentions going forward, the “Sixth Sense” and “Signs” director confirmed that he has much of “The Last Airbender 2” already mapped out. “I do,” Shyamalan told MTV News. “The third is more ambiguous, but the second one, I’ve written a draft that I’m really happy with and is darker and richer, and it has a wonderful antagonist in it in Azula, who’s kind of like our only real, pure antagonist in the series, so I’m excited about that.” His description of the story implies that Summer Bishil’s character from the film currently in theaters has plenty left to do onscreen as Aang (Noah Ringer) continues his fight against the Fire Nation. As far as what the story will be about and which characters could enter or exit the cast, those decisions may have to wait for Paramount’s decision on the franchise’s fate. If things proceed, Shyamalan has already shared a few details that could play into his intentions. The elite female Kyoshi Warriors , for instance, will likely play a larger role. “I probably won’t show the Kyoshi Warriors because I want to save them for the second movie, because I’m going to have to introduce them all over again,” he said while explaining what would and would not show up in the “Last Airbender” DVD and Blu-Ray’s deleted scenes . The characters were initially included in the first film, but circumstances and editing decisions eventually moved them out of the spotlight. “We shot [the scene] and [the Kyoshi Warriors] were amazing, and we spent an unbelievable amount of time choreographing them,” he said. “And they just distracted from the movie, because the movie wasn’t about them.” Given that he became much more comfortable with filming in 3-D during his first “Airbender,” another round of 3-D filming with the same crew would make sense unless Hollywood’s affection for the evolving medium changes overnight. In the meantime, Shyamalan sounds like he’s ready to go if and when an “Airbender” sequel gets the go-ahead.
