Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder: "Comfortably Numb" at Sandy Relief Concert

In an awesomely unexpected duet, Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder performed “Comfortably Numb” at the 12-12-12 Concert For Sandy Relief last night. Pink Floyd’s former frontman welcomed the Pearl Jam rocker for a rendition of Rogers’ 1979 hit, one of many from his band’s iconic double album The Wall . Watch their crowd-pleasing performance below: Roger Waters-Eddie Vedder 12-12-12 Concert Performance Performances from New York-New Jersey area heavy hitters Billy Joel , Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi helped raise $30 million from ticket sales alone. That’s before the marathon concert’s telethon raised countless millions more, a wonderful and necessary feat as the region recovers from Hurricane Sandy. In her surprise appearance last night, Kristen Stewart informed us that New Jersey alone sustained $37 billion in damage from the late October storm. Rogers and Vedder weren’t the only surprise duet of the evening. Coldplay’s Chris Martin and REM’s Michael Stipe joined forces on “Losing My Religion.” Oh, and Paul McCartney stood in for Kurt Cobain for a Nirvana reunion of sorts, joining surviving members Dave Grohl and Krist Novocelic on stage. Unreal.

NASA Apocalypse Video: Told Ya So, Mayans!

NASA’s so-called “Apocalypse Video” has been released a week in advance of next Friday’s end of the world as we know it – December 21, 2012. The agency wants you do know the famous Mayan apocalypse prediction is not going to happen. In fact, it’s not even a real prediction they made! NASA Apocalypse Video 2012 NASA’s video, titled “The World Didn’t End Yesterday,” was originally supposed to be released December 22, but made its way online this week. The four-minute clip explains how the idea of the Mayan apocalypse is a hoax, and that 12/21/12 is just the end of their calendar … before the next one. Time reports that the space agency has been besieged with questions from citizens worried that their lives are about to end over the last few months. NASA is taking the fears seriously, not because there is any danger, but because irrational fears can sometimes lead to irrational and dangerous actions. Its official site features an area dedicated to debunking the claims. “The world will not end in 2012,” NASA writes in its 2012 section . “Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.” NASA experts go on to explain the origins of the hoax. “The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth,” an expert explains to us. “This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012.” “It was linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 201s, hence the predicted doomsday date of Dec. 21, 2012.” Nibiru, by the way, is not a real planet. If it were, NASA says the agency “would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would certainly be visible by now to the naked eye.” Long story short: The world isn’t going to end. You still have to finish your holiday shopping and show up at your mother-in-law’s house on Christmas. Sorry. Numerologists say the 12-12-12 date was pretty cool though. What do you think? Is NASA just turning a blind eye to the inevitable fire and brimstone to come in eight days? Will the world end as predicted?   Yes No Unclear View Poll »

George McGovern Dies; Former Presidential Candidate Was 90

George McGovern has died. The former presidential candidate and U.S. Senator was 90. McGovern passed away early Sunday at a hospice in Sioux Falls, S.D., his home state. Steve Hildebrand, a spokesman for the family, said in a statement to NBC News: “Our wonderful father, George McGovern passed away peacefully at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by our family and life-long friends. “We are blessed to know that our father lived a long, successful and productive life advocating for the hungry, being a progressive voice for millions and fighting for peace.” McGovern was a pilot in World War II who became an early critic of the Vietnam War and a leader of the Democrats’ liberal wing. He served in the Senate from 1963-1981. He ran for president three times, failing to win the Democratic nomination in 1968 and 1984. In 1972, he was the party’s candidate against incumbent Richard Nixon. He challenged Nixon on a platform opposing the war in Vietnam, but suffered one of the most lopsided defeats in history, winning only one state plus D.C. R.I.P.

Taylor Swift Covers Billboard, Says "Goodbye" on New Album

Taylor Swift covers the latest issue of Billboard. In promotion of her new album – set to break every chart record out there on October 22 – the super, duper star talks to the magazine about a number of topics related to ” Red .” To wit: Its theme : It’s all the different ways that you have to say goodbye to someone. When you’re experiencing the ups and downs of a relationship, especially when you’re 22 years old, they all strike you different ways. Every different kind of missing someone, every kind of loss – it all sounds different to me. When you are missing someone, time seems to move slower and when I’m falling in love with someone, time seems to be moving faster. So I think, because time seems to move so slow when I’m sad, that’s why I spend so much time writing songs about it. It seems like I have more hours in the day. Its ballads : “Sad Beautiful Tragic” is really close to my heart. I remember it was after a show and I was on the bus thinking about this relationship that ended months and months before. The feeling wasn’t sadness and anger or those things anymore. It was wistful loss. And so I just got my guitar and I hit on the fact that I was thinking in terms of rhyming; I rhymed magic with tragic, changed a few things and ended it with what a sad beautiful tragic love affair. I wanted to tell the story in terms of a cloudy recollection of what went wrong. It’s kind of the murky gray, looking back on something you can’t change or get back. On being 22 years old : [It has] been my favorite year of my life. I like all the possibilities of how you’re still learning, but you know enough. You still know nothing, but you know that you know nothing. You’re old enough to start planning your life, but you’re young enough to know there are so many unanswered questions. That brings about a carefree feeling that is sort of based on indecision and fear and a the same time letting lose. Being 22 has taught me so much.

Octomom to Mail Lady: Quit Spying on Me!

Octomom believes her mail lady is spying on her, according to reports. We wouldn’t be too surprised … that Octomom is so self-absorbed and paranoid that she believes this. Nadya Suleman’s rep claims she saw someone taking photos of her car Thursday, and that the postal worker claimed she took them because she “wanted one for herself.” Octo and her security team weren’t buying it. She filed a complaint with the Palmdale Postmater for violation of privacy, claiming the mail carrier has been giving out her address and she’s noticed an increase in traffic of late. No word if Nadya believes she’s behind the recent egging . “I am so shocked by the behavior of the USPS, now I know how people have been getting my address. It is very disturbing that this woman is handling my personal mail,” Octo told TMZ. “I certainly hope they are going to take this situation seriously. It is disgusting.” Not as disgusting as the Octomom porn trailer, but close.

Mayan Apocalypse Countdown: Two Months to Live!

Forget the zombie apocalypse . The far more significant Mayan apocalypse is nigh. Just two more months to live, people of Earth! If you believe in that sort of thing. Today (October 21) starts the two-month countdown toward doomsday, according to an interpretation of the Mayan calendar that predicts the end of the world on 12/21/12. Which sucks, but the upside? No wasting time and money Christmas shopping. Two ancient texts traced back to the ancient civilization confirm the end date of the Mayan Long Count calendar on the winter solstice of this year, or December 21, 2012. That day is the last day of the 13th bak’tun, or 144,000-day cycle, of the calendar. Ancient Mayans saw the end of the 13th bak’tun as the end of a full cycle of creation. We. Are. F*%ked. Not all scholars believe that the Mayan Apocalypse will bring fire and brimstone, but better safe than sorry. Time to burn through your savings and live like you’re dying now. The economy could really use it. Will the world end 12/21/12?   Yes No Unclear View Poll »
