A Lil Positivity: Jay-Z Offers Ballers Overpriced Concert Tix To Help Raise Scholarship Dollars [Plus New Jay-Z Candids]

Gotta love those ex-hustlers with their big hearts. The Jiggaman is plotting on them rich folks pockets in an effort to raise funds for the broke kids who want to go to college. Hip-hop legend Jay-Z said today he will perform two concerts at Carnegie Hall in February to raise money for his scholarship foundation and United Way of New York City. “I want to do my part to make sure everyone has an opportunity,” Jay-Z said in an interview today. “It’s really a shame when someone has drive and really wants to further their education, and they’re unable to because of their financial situation.” The shows will mark the first time a major solo hip-hop act has been booked for an entire show at the storied Manhattan venue, according to Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s executive and artistic director. Most of the tickets for the Feb. 6 and 7 shows will go on sale Monday and will be priced at $500 to $2,500. They’re aimed at wealthy individuals, such as hedge-fund executives and others tied to Wall Street, Jay-Z said. “This is about connecting people to help other people,” said the artist, whose real name is Shawn Carter. A portion of the tickets will be offered to the public at much lower prices on Jan. 30. Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation and United Way will split the proceeds from the ticket sales. The United Way works with families and schools to boost the reading proficiency of children from low-income neighborhoods. Raised in the Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant district, Jay- Z, rose from poverty to become one of hip-hop’s top-selling solo acts. In 2002, he launched his charity with the help of his mother, Gloria Carter. His nonprofit has given away more than $1.3 million to help 750 needy students attend college. “We know we’re going to raise some money and help some people,” Jay-Z said. “But we’re also going to raise the profile of what I’m doing.” Hov is also making history with this one. It will be the first hip-hop “themed” performer at Carnegie Hall. Aight. Source SplashNews More On Bossip! RihRih Gets Kushed Up And Goes Drizzy H.A.M. Rick Ross Promises A ‘Classic Debut’ From Meek Mill

‘You can expect real hip-hop from me: spit, versatility,’ Philly MC tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rick Ross and Meek Mill Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Meek Mill is on fire right now. Just last week the Maybach Music rookie dropped the high-powered remix of his “Ima Boss” single, and while another rapper in his position might rush to put an album out in order to capitalize off the momentum, Meek is taking his time. When Meek Milly’s debut album does drop his MMG boss, Rick Ross , has no doubt that it’ll be quality. As a matter of fact, when Rozay and Meek were featured on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday, the Bawse made the proclamation of all proclamations. “Meek Mill debut gonna be a classic,” Ross boasted as his Philadelphia prot

Meek Mill will also make an appearance on the show, airing Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Rick Ross Photo: Getty Images Rick Ross is back and the Maybach Music boss has much to celebrate. After suffering two seizures in October, Rozay is focused on his health and relishing in the success of Wale’s current #1 rap album Ambition . On Wednesday, the biggest Bawse and Meek Mill will be featured on “RapFix Live” and touch on MMG’s reign, his upcoming album, his new mixtape with Drake and how he and his team are moving after his health scare. Ross will also speak on Trina. Last week, “RapFix Live” invited Da Baddest Bitch to the red couch and talked to her about her new album, her love life and the possibility of her signing to Rozay’s Maybach Music label. Trina stayed tight-lipped about the merger, but hopefully Ross can shed some light. “I have a few surprises,” Trina said on “RapFix Live.” “This album, I want to make it more about me. I’m not going to have a whole album full of features. I’m working with some really great producers and Ross, of course. He’s the structure and the leader for the album. I love Ross. He’s like my brother, so it’s really important for me that he understands where I’m at right now and to help make this album be as great as I want it to.” Ross has also been contributing to Meek Mill’s as-yet-untitled debut LP, so expect an album update from the Philadelphia flame spitter as well as info on his recently released “I’ma Boss (Remix),” featuring Lil Wayne, T.I., Rick Ross, Swizz Beatz, DJ Khaled and Birdman. N.O.R.E. will also make an appearance on this week’s show. The Capone-N-Noreaga rapper has been down in Miami, not only putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Super Thug album, but also concentrating on his health. N.O.R.E. will talk about the steps he has been taking to shed pounds as well as speak on his buddy Fat Joe’s new look and his thoughts on the recent death of hip-hop legend Heavy D . That’s not all. Fans will be able to see what industry insiders are listening to in our regular “Week in Rotation” segment and check out new talent with this week’s “Get in the Game” pick. Catch Rick Ross, Meek Mill and N.O.R.E. on “RapFix Live” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive! Taylor Swift Says 2012 Album Is ‘About Moving On’

The 10 songs she’s written so far are ‘sad, if I’m being honest,’ she tells The New Yorker. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images It’s been almost a year since Taylor Swift released the chart-topping Speak Now, which included the hits “Mine” and “Back to December.” Fans won’t have to wait much longer for the next country-crossover hits: Swift’s next album is due sometime in 2012. During an interview with The New Yorker, Swift said she recently decided that life is “about achieving contentment … you’re not always going to be ridiculously happy” — and that newly discovered viewpoint is leaking into her new music. Throughout her career, we’ve seen Swift grow from a wide-eyed girl who sings about puppy love to a been-there, done-that young woman who understands heartbreak. Her new songs certainly fit into the progression. “They’re sad, if I’m being honest,” she said of the 10 songs she’s written so far, adding that a recent track she wrote “is about moving on.” Of her abilities as a vocalist, Swift said singing is really just the vehicle to get her ideas out into the world. “I write songs, and my voice is just a way to get those lyrics across,” she said. In an interview with MTV News earlier this year, Swift said her ability to express her feelings in song has grown nearly as much as she has as a person. “I think retrospect will tell a lot. Years from now, I’ll look back and go, ‘I didn’t know anything then,’ ” she said. “I had this song called ‘Picture to Burn’ that’s talking about how ‘I hate your truck’ and ‘I hate that you ignored me,’ ‘I hate you,’ ” she explained. “Now, the way that I would say that and the way that I would feel that kind of pain is a lot different.” Until Swift does put out new music, her fans can look forward to a concert album and DVD special called “Speak Now World Tour – Live,” dropping November 21. It will include live versions of tracks like “Mine,” “Story of Us,” “Mean” and Back to December.” What are you expecting from Taylor Swift’s new music? Let us know in the comments! Rick Ross Makes ‘Magic’ With Mary J. Blige

Aside from his God Forgives, I Don’t, the Bawse also teases upcoming Maybach Music Group compilation. By Rob Markman Rick Ross Photo: MTV News DJ Khaled already said Rick Ross ‘ upcoming album God Forgives, I Don’t is a classic-in-the-making, and Drake compared it to the Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die. Quite frankly, the Bawse is humbled. “Me making my album is just a real tedious process that I go through,” Rozay told MTV News while on the black carpet for the taping of the October 11 BET Hip Hop Awards . “The response from the people that I did play a few records for, the feedback is incredible.” While Ross has been tight-lipped about what he has planned for his fifth solo album, he did speak a bit on his upcoming collaboration with Mary J. Blige. “That’s the Queen. I can just tell you about the experience,” he said. “We actually worked in Michael Jackson’s L.A. studio and we made some magic.” Mary J. Blige also spoke of the experience with XXL in September, clarifying that the two actually recorded in the last studio the King of Pop ever recorded in. “It’s a private studio that one of our friends, he was really close to Michael Jackson, he let us use it,” Mary said. “It’s actually Marvin Gaye’s studio. It [has] murals of Michael Jackson all over the [walls] and Marvin Gaye. That was the last place [Michael] actually worked at before he passed. It’s such a good vibe.” Ross wouldn’t give concrete confirmation, but said his MJB track could possibly be a single. The untitled track has definitely impressed the Yonkers, New York, singer. “Rick is fly. He picks the best beats, man,” Blige told XXL. “That guy is amazing with that.” Like a good boss, Ross isn’t just focused on his solo work; he has plans for his signed artists as well. He revealed to MTV News that he plans to drop a sequel to his Maybach Music Group compilation before the year’s end. “Look for that Self Made 2 ; that’ll be coming later this year,” he teased of the album that will feature Meek Mill, Wale, Pill, Stalley and Ross himself. “Of course that God Forgives, I Don’t as well as Ambition, Wale’s [solo] album. Just support MMG. We grinding.” What are you expecting from Ross’ next album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross

Watch The Throne Fans Rave Over Pop-Up Store, ‘Otis’ Vid

MTV News crashed Jay-Z and Kanye’s pop-up store in NYC to speak to Throne fans. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImageGetty Images/ NEW YORK — “We were at our office and one of my colleagues said, ‘I just saw on Twitter that there is a new pop-up shop that’s selling Watch the Throne, ” said a man identified only by his Twitter handle @hiprobbie. “So we ran down here to check it out.” And just like that, fans scurried down to 201 Mulberry Street, in the SoHo section of Manhattan, to celebrate the physical retail release of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s combo album . Things started off slowly at first. MTV News was on the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m. ET and the storefront, which was wrapped in a gold Riccardo Tisci-designed print, was barren out front. It wasn’t until noon, when MTV broke the news and folks from Kanye’s camp began to tweet about the surprise retail space, that fans started to show up. At about 1 p.m. ET, fans were let in to the surprise store, where the Throne album was sold and the album’s art was displayed. The biggest attraction: the chopped-and-screwed Maybach from Hov and Yeezy’s “Otis” video , which premiered on MTV on Thursday. “That’s the first thing you see when you get in the store is the Maybach, and it’s all tore up,” hip-hop fan Max Lockie said. “The engine’s exposed, the doors are ripped off, the trunk’s split open so you can see the inside of it.” Dorian Talker was equally excited to see the tricked-out whip, which will eventually be auctioned off for charity, though he did express just a bit of disappointment. “I would’ve liked it better if Jay-Z and Kanye had been in the car, but, you know, you get what you get,” he said. See what car expert Myles Kovacs estimates the Maybach’s work cost. The pop-up store caps off an exciting week in which fans waited until Monday’s early morning hours to purchase the album on iTunes. Then on Thursday, Throne fanatics got to see WTT first visual component when the “Otis” video debuted. On Friday, folks were still buzzing. “It was dope. What I liked about the video most was it seemed like they were having a good time,” Jonas Guerrero said. “They were stuntin’ on a whole ‘nother level. The whole big Riccardo Tisci flag on the back, and they were all smiles … I haven’t seen a video like that in a long time.” What did our panel of tastemakers have to say about the “Otis” vid? Check it out here. Talker agreed. He applauded the video’s director for letting Jay and ‘Ye just let it all hang out. “I think Spike Jonze just allowed Kanye and Jay-Z to do their thing,” he said. “It wasn’t overly conceptual, which I think was a benefit to the video.” What do you think of the “Otis” video?
