Breakups: Paris Hilton Gets Kicked Curbside By Swirly Dutch DJ Boo Thang

Poor Paris . Paris Hilton Dumped By Boyfriend DJ Afrojack Things are really looking down for Paris Hilton right now. Her career is on the downswing, the Kardashians rule the world and her half-black boo thang just wants to be free — from her. According to RadarOnline reports : Paris Hilton and DJ AfroJack have called it quits after dating for around six months, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. “Afrojack had moved into Paris’ Beverly Hills mansion earlier this year, and the two got very serious, very fast,” a source close to the former couple tells RadarOnline.com. “Paris was really into him and admires the work he has done. Afrojack did a lot of the work on Paris’ new album which will be released later this year. He took a lot of criticism for working with her, but he truly does believe that she has talent. Paris was smitten with him, but Afrojack just wanted to have fun and not be exclusive with anyone. He is on the road practically every day performing in clubs all over the world, and he just isn’t ready to settle down, whereas Paris is.” As RadarOnline.com previously reported, 31, is working on completing a second follow up album six years after the release of her first one which sold only 197,000 copes. Paris has been focusing “all of her creative energy into her second album,” a source close to the former reality star says. “Paris has been working with Flo Rida, LMFAO and David Guetta, and the album should be released this summer,” a source previously told RadarOnline.com. “Paris hopes to embark on a European concert tour to promote the album, which will consist of house music. She knows she has a lot riding on this project because her last reality show was canceled and she needs to do something to re-invent herself. Paris is hoping to appeal to a broader fan base and would love to use the album as a platform for a possible project with MTV. Yes, Paris is a very successful businesswoman, and she is about to release her fifteenth fragrance, but that isn’t enough for her. Paris craves the attention from the media and her fans and she is truly feeling the pressure to deliver on this, because she doesn’t have any other television or movie projects lined up.” Meanwhile, Paris is likely to take her recent breakup hard, as friends of the socialite tell us, “Paris is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that she just doesn’t have the popularity or cache that she did five years ago. Paris has tons of money, but that isn’t enough for her. Look, she is still going to clubs on a very frequent basis and she is 31 years old. You don’t see a lot of people over 30 going to clubs, it’s almost sad to see. Paris would love to be married with kids, it’s all she ever talks about, but she hasn’t found her Prince Charming yet and she isn’t getting any younger.” Poor Paris. All that money can’t buy her love from fans or a nice boo. Oh well, she can always shop at Chanel. W ENN/PacificCoastNews

Etan Patz Case: Pedro Hernandez Arrested For Murder

Pedro Hernandez confessed to murdering Etan Patz yesterday, meaning that after more than three decades, the famous missing persons case may be over. Hernandez, a former corner store worker, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after he confessed to strangling 6-year-old Patz in 1979. “He was remorseful, and I think the detectives thought it was a feeling of relief on his part,” New York police Commissioner Ray Kelly told the media. Incredibly, today, May 25 marks the 33rd anniversary of the disappearance of Etan Patz, who became the nation’s first “milk carton child.” Etan Patz Case: Pedro Hernandez Arrested The case sparked the movement to raise awareness of missing kids. Etan vanished on his way to a New York bus stop, triggering a massive manhunt, but no sign of the little boy had ever been detected. The Etan Patz case returned to the headlines last month when authorities re-launched the search , tearing up the basement of a nearby building. Kelly said a recent tip led investigators to Hernandez , 51, a Maple Shade, N.J., resident with a teenage daughter. The commissioner said: “In the years following Etan’s disappearance, Hernandez had told his family that he had ‘done a bad thing’ and killed a child in New York.” On Wednesday night, Hernandez was questioned in New Jersey and then voluntarily returned with detectives to New York, says Kelly. “He brought them to the scene of the crime, which is now a store that sells eye glasses,” says the commissioner. “Hernandez described to the detectives how he lured young Etan from the school bus stop at West Broadway and Prince Street with the promise of a soda.” “He then led him into the basement of the (store), choked him there, and disposed of the body by putting it into a plastic bag, and placing it into the trash.” At the time, Hernandez was a 19-year-old stock clerk in the business and lived in an apartment nearby, says Kelly. Kelly said investigators arrested Hernandez based on “the fact that he had told his story in the past, and the specificity of what he said in the confession.” Hopefully, as horrible as this is, the family can finally have closure.

‘American Idol’ Finale: Phillip Phillips Crowned Winner

Frontrunner Phillips beats out 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez for the season 11 crown after a ‘world record’ of 132 million votes. By Adam Graham Phillip Phillips performs on the “American Idol” season 11 finale Photo: Getty Images The lights were dimmed, the votes were counted, and Phillip Phillips became the new “American Idol.” As expected, Phillips beat out Jessica Sanchez on Wednesday’s (May 23) Season 11 “Idol” finale, live at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. Phillips topped Sanchez after a reported 132 million votes were cast — “a new world record,” according to host Ryan Seacrest. Phillips teared up while performing his winning song “Home,” while confetti rained down on the stage around him. The Leesburg, Georgia, native has been a cool cucumber all season long, but he broke down in the moment, just as he did during his hometown visit last week. Phillips didn’t finish the song, but strolled off stage and into the arms of his family, who were waiting in the first few rows. As streamers fell and the band played on the stage behind him, Phillips hugged his family members, and later judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Phillips came out of Tuesday’s performance episode the heavy favorite to win it all and was celebrated by the judges for his “Home,” which was tailor made for his laid-back style. On the other hand, Sanchez’s would-be winning song, “Change Nothing,” was sloughed off by the judges and even Sanchez herself, who acknowledged the song wasn’t really in her wheelhouse, and said she’d aim to put more of herself in her future recordings. Heading into this season, the buzz was that a woman would win “Idol,” becoming the first female winner since Jordin Sparks in 2007. Four of this year’s top six contestants were female, but Phillips proved unbeatable in the stretch. Sanchez was an early favorite in the season, stepping out in front with her show-stopping rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” on the March 7 episode. But she hit her stumbling blocks along the way, and was voted out on the April 12 episode, and had to be saved by the judges to stay in the competition. Phillips was steady throughout the season. His name — that name! — made him an instant standout, and he played it cool all season long, never letting much of anything — including the season-long illness he battled — ruffle his fathers. (On Thursday’s show, he joked — he was joking, right? — that he got nine and a half to 10 hours of sleep the night before.) He was often criticized, and fairly so, for his similarities to Dave Matthews, but he came alive in the final two weeks, knocking out Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight” and his winning “Idol” song, “Home.” Wednesday’s finale packed the usual array of medleys, group performances and guest appearances. Stars on the roster included Rihanna (who hit the stage to perform “Where Have You Been”), Chaka Kahn (who joined the female finalists on “I’m Every Woman”), Neil Diamond (who did “Sweet Caroline” with the male contestants) and Reba McEntire (who sang “Turn on the Radio” with Skylar Laine). Josha Ledet sang Elton John’s “Take Me to the Pilot” alongside Fantasia Barrino, whom he introduced as “the biggest inspiration in my life” and who hit the stage in a wild, form-fitting catsuit and long hair, while another former “Idol” winner, Jordin Sparks, took the stage with Hollie Cavanagh on “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” John Fogerty teamed up with Phillips on the Creedence Clearwater Revival classics “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and “Bad Moon Rising,” and Jennifer Holliday teamed up with Sanchez on the “Dreamgirls” signature song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” (Earlier, Sanchez hit the stage on her own to reprise her performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”) The “Idol” finalists — minus Phillips and Sanchez, who teamed up on Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes’ “Up Where We Belong” late in the show — opened the show with Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby,” and the male finalists paid tribute to the late Robin Gibb by running through a handful of Bee Gees classics, including “How Deep is Your Love,” “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “To Love Somebody.” The “Idol” judges got in on the action as well. Jennifer Lopez performed “Goin’ In” with Flo Rida and Lil Jon and “Follow the Leader” with Puerto Rican duo Wisin & Yandel, while Steven Tyler hit the stage with his Aerosmith cohorts to do their new single “Legendary Child” along with “Walk This Way.” The show also featured “Idol’s” first live wedding proposal, when fifth season finalist Ace Young proposed to third season runner-up Diana DeGarmo while the dramatic “Idol” suspense-building music played in the background. (DeGarmo accepted despite Young’s tacky jewelry store plug mid-proposal.) Phillips and Sanchez were also given new Ford automobiles for their efforts. Next up? After the finalists make the media rounds, the “American Idol” summer tour — featuring the season’s top 10 finalists — kicks off July 6 in Detroit. What did you think of the “Idol” finale? Daniel Radcliffe, Jon Hamm to Play Same Russian Doctor, Naturally

Well! Quite a week for inspired Russian-history film news! If it’s not Paul Schrader adapting ballerina biopics , then its Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe pairing up to play the same guy in Sky Arts’ four-part series A Young Doctor’s Notebook . The project will adapt a collection of short stories by Mikhail Bulgakov, who loosely based the darkly comic tales on his own experience attempting to practice medicine in the semi-civilized squalor of revolutionary Russia. Radcliffe will portray the young doctor of the title, who will have interludes throughout with the older version of himself played by Hamm. “I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now so when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement,” Radcliffe said in a statement first reported by the Guardian. “The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life.” Hamm, meanwhile, said he was “thrilled to get the opportunity to work on such rich source material with such fantastically talented people whose work I greatly respect.” See? They’re already speaking the same language. Just throw on an accent and we’re good to go. Sky Arts will air the series in 2013. [ The Guardian ]

John Legend Bashes Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as Non-Singers

They won’t be competing against each other, but it’s nevertheless on between Duets and The X Factor . On the ABC Upfront party red carpet this week, John Legend – one of the four singers who will be teaming up with amateurs across the country on the new singing competition – was asked about the new X Factor judges, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato , and replied: “You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” Legend told E! News. “It’s interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.” Ouch! Interesting is one diplomatic word for it, yes. Robin Thicke, who will also appear on Duets , gave the young ladies some credit at least: “Oh come on, everything Britney does, she excels at. Demi is a lovely young lady, and I’m sure they’ll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch.” Which of these X Factor judges has you most excited?
