Lindsay Lohan Judge Removes Herself From Case

Marsha Revel’s move comes amid allegations of improper practices. By Jayson Rodriguez Lindsay Lohan appears in court (file) Photo: Pool/ Getty Images The Beverly Hills, California, judge who presided over Lindsay Lohan’s recent probation-violation case has removed herself from further proceedings involving the actress after allegations of improper practices. According to TMZ , Judge Marsha Revel contacted various medical experts and participants in Lohan’s case without notifying the former Disney star’s lawyer or the district attorney’s office. A source in the D.A.’s office reportedly told TMZ that Revel stepped down from the case in lieu of the prosecution’s impending request to have her removed. The move is notable because the judge made headlines when she went against the recommendation of experts in Lohan’s case and ordered the troubled star to a different rehab facility after she completed her prison term . Lohan was slated to check into the Morningside Recovery treatment center, however, Revel changed the location, ultimately selecting the UCLA Medical Center instead. Reports suggested Revel was concerned drugs could be attained by Lohan at the recommended treatment center. Sources told TMZ that Lohan’s legal team and prosecutors met Friday to discuss their issues with Revel. Among the complaints aired during the conversation was that the judge contacted representatives at Morningside Recovery on two occasions without properly disclosing her actions. Revel also allegedly met with Robert Shapiro, the attorney Lohan briefly hired after her lawyer in the case quit. The judge, TMZ reported, failed to notify the prosecution of the Shapiro meeting in her chambers. Revel was particularly harsh with Lohan during the troubled actress’ sentencing , scolding her after she pleaded for leniency. “It’s like someone who cheats but doesn’t think it’s cheating if they don’t get caught,” the judge said. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar: Planning Baby #20?

Arkansans Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have, obviously, always been open about their intentions to raise children – we’re talking about a lot of children. But the stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting faced near tragedy with their 19th child’s premature birth, leading many observers to conclude that was it. Not so fast. The couple, whose baby Josie Duggar was hospitalized for six months with a perforated bowel and rare digestive problems, are considering a 20th child . “Our family is stronger than ever,” Jim Bob Duggar, 45, and Michelle Duggar, 43, tell People in its new cover story . “We made it through the storm.” That’s not to say it’s an easy call. Born months early after Michelle’s pregnancy-induced high blood pressure, Josie’s life has been in danger throughout. “When she first came home, I couldn’t sleep at all,” Michelle said. “That was the scariest part, the full responsibility of her care on my shoulders.” Similarly daunting are the medical risks Michelle could face with another pregnancy – particularly a return of preeclampsia (high blood pressure), which can lead to a stroke or prove fatal. But the pair vow to stick to their beliefs. “People think we are overpopulating the world,” says Jim Bob, a real estate agent and former Arkansas State Legislature member, in response to critics of his large but debt-free family. “We are following our convictions.” Should Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have a 20th baby?

Haiti’s Earthquake-Injured Animals Are That Country’s Lowest Priority | 8 Deeply Touching Photos… Accompanied by Some Hope

Haiti's injured animals lowest priority More than six months since Haiti's earthquake, family dogs and pigs search for food in the rubble. “Animal welfare is a new concept in Haiti,” said Max Millien, director of animal health at the Haiti Ministry of Agriculture. _____ First aid groups treat Haiti's injured animals By Daphne Sashin, for CNN August 9, 2010 10:44 p.m. EDT STORY HIGHLIGHTS * Groups say animals are lowest priority in aftermath of Haiti's earthquake * For the first time, the nation has non-profit animal welfare organizations * They have treated tens of thousands of animals since the January disaster * One group plans to build an animal care and veterinary training center (CNN) — More than six months since the earthquake in Haiti, family dogs and pigs paw through garbage and rubble in search of food, putting them at risk of infections, abscesses and parasites, according to animal welfare groups. Owners want to help their pets and livestock, but they have little to give. With 1.5 million people still living in tents and the nation in the middle of hurricane season, animals are the lowest priority, animal rescue groups say. Despite this, tens of thousands of animals have been treated while a public service campaign features a Creole-speaking dog telling families to include their animals in evacuation plans. “The animal situation is only a reflection of the people's situation,” Gerardo Huertas, of the UK-based World Society for the Protection of Animals, told CNN from Costa Rica. “They live together. Until the whole shelter situation resolves, all you can do is help them with little veterinary support that we can provide,” added Huertas, the society's Director of Disaster Management for the Americas. But animal welfare groups are hopeful that in time they can actually give the nation and its people something it didn't have before the earthquake — equipment, training and an awareness that animal welfare is critical to their own survival. “Often in disasters we try and only deal with the problems caused by the disaster and not the underlying problems … but Haiti was a special case,” said Ian Robinson, Emergency Relief Program Director for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, based in Massachusetts. The animal situation is only a reflection of the people's situation –Gerardo Huertas, World Society for the Protection of Animals “To put it back like it was before the earthquake wasn't good enough.” There wasn't a single animal welfare organization in Haiti before the earthquake. The government was focused on preventing the spread of animal-to-human diseases like anthrax, rabies and classical swine fever. “Animal welfare is a new concept in Haiti,” said Max Millien, Director of Animal Health at the Haiti Ministry of Agriculture. “The children have to start to understand … if you treat the animals well, that's a way to protect yourself.” Robinson and Millien recently presented their observations at the annual American Veterinary Medical Association conference, in Atlanta, Georgia. The earthquake damaged the buildings that held vaccines for rabies, heartworm and other diseases. Vets lacked supplies. International volunteers struggled to get around the country. As for the animals themselves, hundreds were injured. Some of them had wounds caused by the quake or from having to find food in dumps. Others had infections and needed immediate treatment. Days after the earthquake, the two non-profits created The Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), with a dozen other animal rescue groups to provide more than $1.1 million in aid to the Haitian government over the next year, including: • A team of Haitian vets to reach the hardest hit areas with antibiotics, vaccinations and other treatments for animals that in many cases had never been seen by a doctor. Since January, the ARCH mobile clinic has treated 30,000 pigs, goats, dogs, cats and other animals. • Solar-powered freezers and refrigerators to store temperature-sensitive vaccines in rural areas without electricity, along with coolers that will fit on the back of motorcycles, horses or bicycles for mobile veterinarians. • Haiti's first census of dogs and cats to determine the level of care they are receiving, people's attitudes toward companion animals and the risk of rabies and other diseases to humans. • A public awareness campaign to educate families about disaster planning. Last month, public-service announcements began airing a speaking dog telling families to take them along if they have to evacuate. “Any emergency plan is better than no plan,” Huertas said. “We're just asking them to include their pets.” Separately, The Christian Veterinary Mission has promised laptops and projectors for mobile veterinarians to give presentations on animal care. In addition, Humane Society International has spent $400,000 in Haiti and pledged more than $1 million over the next five years. It has begun planning an animal care and veterinary training center in Croix-des-Bouquets and is also working to establish spay-neuter and vaccine clinics. “I do consider the earthquake as an opportunity,” Millien said. “We have a lot of promises … I hope the situation will be better than before.” Click here to see photos of our voiceless friends… http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/08/06/haiti.animals/index.html?hpt=C1 added by: EthicalVegan

Lindsay Lohan Got Special Treatment in Jail, Loser Inmate Complains

Dina Lohan says her daughter Lindsay was treated like a common criminal during her stint in jail. Not the case, says another girl in there for the same thing. “Lindsay had a lot of special treatment while she was in jail,” Katie A., who did not give her last name, likely because she is also a drunk driving idiot, said. “The entire jail was put on lockdown any time Lindsay left her cell. She spent a lot of time in her cell, but also went to the medical clinic several times a day.” Not only that, but “One employee of the jail had to spend his day searching the entire place for any books by Ernest Hemmingway for Lindsay,” Katie says . “Those are the only books she would read.” Hey, she has discerning taste, okay? Lay off, girl! INMATE 6126 : Lindsay was a special one, sources say. In addition to having the jail cleared while she was on the move, poor Katie A. laments that rich, famous Lohan also got a brand new jail uniform everyday, while other inmates just got a clean pair once a week – if they were lucky! Katie also says Lindsay, who is now in rehab being treated for drug abuse and mental health issues , was granted her commissary order when she was incarcerated July 20 even though all orders are supposed to be placed Monday night. “I checked into Lynwood on the same Tuesday as Lindsay and had to wait until the next week for my commissary order to be placed,” Katie says. “But Lindsay got hers. I was sentenced to 30 days because of a violation of my probation for not attending an alcohol education class,” she adds. “The same thing as Lindsay. Lindsay served 13 days out of her 90 day sentence whereas I had to serve 20 days for a much lesser sentence.” Aww. We would feel bad, but how hard is it to: Call a cab? Go to one BS alcohol education class per week? Not very. Morons.

Socialist Paradise News: Man In Sweden Sews Up Own Leg, Gets Reported to Police

Mark Levin highlighted some news from Sweden on his national radio show about a man who sewed up his own gash in his leg. Levin said “get ready for it,” joking about how efficient ObamaCare was going to be. This human-interest story will probably not make the liberal media. From The Local : A 32-year-old took the needle into his hands when he tired of the wait at Sundsvall hospital in northern Sweden and sewed up the cut in his leg himself. The man was later reported to the police for his impromptu handiwork. “It took such a long time,” the man told the local Sundsvall Tidning daily. The man incurred the deep cut when he sliced his leg on the sharp edge of a kitchen stove while he was renovating at home. “I first went to the health clinic, but it was closed. So I rang the medical help line and they told me that it shouldn’t be closed, so I went to emergency and sat there,” the man named only as Jonas told the newspaper. After an hour-long wait in a treatment room, he lost patience and proceeded to sew up his own wound. “They had set out a needle and thread and so I decided to take the matter into my hands,” he said. But hospital staff were not as impressed by his initiative and have reported the man on suspicion of criminal dispossession (egenmäktigt förfarande) for having used hospital equipment without authorization. While Jonas admitted to the newspaper that he has no prior experience of sewing up himself he sought to play down the fuss that his handiwork has caused, arguing that “through the ages people have always sewn themselves up”.

Texas mayor kills daughter and then self.

COPPELL, Texas (AP) — The mayor of an upscale Dallas suburb apparently shot her teenage daughter to death before fatally shooting herself, but only after leaving notes at their home warning officers about the scene they would find and outlining how to manage family affairs, police said Wednesday. An envelope taped to the front door of Mayor Jayne Peters' home contained a key to the house and a typed note advising police they would discover something unpleasant inside, Coppell Deputy Police Chief Steve Thomas said. Three other notes contained instructions for handling affairs, such as taking care of the family dogs, but did not provide explanations for the deaths of Peters and her 19-year-old daughter, Corinne. “It appeared to me that there had been some thought,” Thomas said. Police found the bodies Tuesday after the mayor failed to show up at a city council meeting. They said the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Wednesday that the case should be officially classified as a homicide-suicide investigation. “Forensic tests (and) procedures performed point to Corinne being the victim in this tragedy, with Mayor Peters subsequently taking her own life,” police said in a statement. “Both of the fatal injuries are a result of a single gun shot wounds.” Thomas said the weapon was a semiautomatic handgun and there were no signs of a struggle. “Everybody in the room is like, 'Did we miss a sign?'” Bob Mahalik, mayor pro tem who is now acting mayor of the city, said of council members' reaction to the deaths. “It's hard to wrap your arms around it.” Mahalik said he had a gut feeling something wasn't right when the mayor didn't turn up for the meeting. “But nowhere in your wildest dreams did you think it would be that far not right,” he said. A small collection of flowers, wreaths and cards decorated the front porch of the Peters' 3,850 square-foot brick home, where the mayor and her daughter lived alone. A printed letter said: “Please know that you are loved no matter what happens. I know that God is with you and giving you comfort. You both are with Don, a wonderful husband and father. A family again.” The mayor's husband, Donald Peters, died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 58. Jayne Peters was a contract software developer who served as mayor of Coppell, a city of about 40,000 located 15 miles northwest of Dallas, for the past year. Her term was to expire in 2012. She had been a council member since 1998. “This is a tremendous loss for the city, the community and the region,” said City Manager Clay Phillips. The elder Peters attended Miami University in Ohio. In her official biography on the city's website, she said “Coppell is a community with a huge heart, and we take care of one another.” “She enjoyed what she was doing as mayor and she was good at what she did,” said Mahalik, who last saw Peters waving and passing out candy at the city's Independence Day parade. “She attended almost everything, every ribbon-cutting, speaking at the schools, the chamber, regional meetings.” Todd Storch, of Coppell, had known Peters for about a year. When his 13-year-old daughter died in a skiing accident in March, Peters was there for him and his family and later took a spot on the foundation he formed in his daughter's name to increase awareness for organ donation. “She was just one of those rocks that was always there. We kind of grieved together,” Storch said. Corinne Peters graduated from Coppell High School this year. A classmate said she was bound for the University of Texas at Austin, and neighbors said the mother and daughter seemed happy. Her Facebook page shows a smiling girl in a white top and details her interests in movies and television comedies. “Corinne was an outstanding student and gifted dancer with a big heart,” said Jessica Doty, a spokeswoman for the Coppell school district. Doty called Jayne Peters a “dedicated school volunteer.” A close friend, Ashley Johnson, said Corinne loved animals and was a phenomenal ballet dancer. There were no signs of serious strain between Corinne and her mother, Johnson said. “Her and her mom fought sometimes, but it was like a normal teenager and mom relationship,” Johnson said. “I never would have thought this would have happened.” Neighbor Diane Ianni said Corinne was excited about enrolling at Texas and frequently donned shirts with the university's logo and colors. She said when she last saw Corinne the teen was upset about having to miss at least two different summer orientation sessions at the Austin campus, the last time because her mom was having problems with her eye and had to go to a doctor's appointment. But she said Corinne recovered and had been back to her happy self. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_MAYOR_DAUGHTER_DEAD?SITE=AP&SECTIO… added by: onemalefla

‘Inception’: The Early Reviews Are In!

‘Leonardo DiCaprio finds the tortured center of his character,’ one reviewer writes. By Eric Ditzian Leonardo DiCaprio in “Inception” Photo: Warner Bros. Almost one year ago, the teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” hit the web. It featured acrobatic fight sequences, hallucinatory imagery, and left us with far more questions than answers. Just what the heck was this movie really about, anyway? In the months that followed, Nolan slowly peeled back the curtain to reveal peeks at his top-secret follow-up to 2008’s “The Dark Knight.” Now, with the movie’s July 16 release date approaching, “Inception” has been fully unveiled to industry insiders, and the first reviews are beginning to pop up online. Here’s what folks are saying about the flick. The Story “Leonardo DiCaprio plays Cobb, an expert in what the film calls extraction, the theft of secrets or information from the subconscious mind,” Todd Gilchrist wrote in Cinematical.com . After botching a job thanks to the intrusion of his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard), Cobb finds an unlikely opportunity for redemption from one of his former victims: Saito (Ken Watanabe), CEO of a flourishing multinational, offers him amnesty in exchange for planting an idea — known as inception — within the mind of Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), one of Saito’s competitors. Enlisting the help of teammates Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Ariadne (Ellen Page), Eames (Tom Hardy), and Yusuf (Dileep Rao), Cobb reluctantly agrees to the mission, only to discover that the mind’s defenses are more formidable than any physical threat he could face. Heist-movie plot details notwithstanding, the above description scarcely scratches at the surface of what’s in the film, and certainly reveals nothing of the deeper conceptual and thematic dimensions of its story.” The Look “Shot across four continents by Nolan’s regular d.p., Wally Pfister, and outfitted by production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas, ‘Inception’ is easily the director’s most visually unbridled work,” Justin Chang wrote in Variety. “Its canvas stretches from the skyscrapers of Tokyo to the bazaars of Tangiers, from an amber-lit hotel corridor to a snowy mountain compound (a setpiece that plays like an homage to ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’). Pic has arresting effects and images to spare, such as the sight of Paris folding in on itself like a book or Gordon-Levitt’s Arthur performing a fight scene in zero gravity (the explanation for which is even more dazzling).” The Performances “DiCaprio finds the tortured center of his character, a man who is part thief and part spy and whose own guilt-ridden subconscious stands to destroy his chances of succeeding at the proverbial one last job,” Jim Vejvoda wrote in IGN.com . ” ‘Inception’ is sort of a companion piece in a way to ‘Shutter Island,’ the year’s other mind-bender DiCaprio thriller. Gordon-Levitt — who, like DiCaprio, was a child sitcom actor — continues to prove he’s one of the brightest up-and-coming dramatic actors with his turn here. And although she has less screen time than the rest of the cast, Cotillard shines as the film’s closest thing to a femme fatale.” The “Matrix” Comparison “[T]here’s a sort of ‘Matrix’ action movie vibe about the [marketing] campaign, and despite some wild visual moments in the film, I wouldn’t describe this as an action film at all,” Drew McWeeny wrote in HitFix.com . “There are action beats in it, but all of them are ultimately in service of the emotional journey that Dom takes in the film, and as a result, the stakes seem so much higher than they would if it was just another movie where people were chasing around some empty Macguffin. Everything in this film … cities folding in on themselves, buildings filling with sudden floods of water, gravity that stops working, reality fraying at the edges … ties back in to whatever happened between Dom and his wife Mal years ago.” The Bottom Line “Following up on such ingenious and intriguing films as ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Memento,’ Nolan has outdone himself,” Kirk Honeycutt wrote in The Hollywood Reporter. ” ‘Inception’ puts him not only at the top of the heap of sci-fi all-stars, but it also should put this Warner Bros. release near or at the top of the summer movies. It’s very hard to see how a film that plays so winningly to so many demographics would not be a worldwide hit.” Are you excited to see “Inception”? Sound off in the comments below! Madina Lake Bassist Released From Hospital, Still Faces Brain Surgery

‘So we’d finally convinced the doctors to let me take Matthew home,’ brother and bandmate Nathan Leone posted on the band’s blog. By James Montgomery Matthew Leone of Medina Lake Photo: Jay West/ WireImage Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone — who was beaten and left unconscious last week after attempting to intervene in a domestic dispute — has been sent home from the hospital in Chicago, but still faces an uphill battle (including a second round of brain surgery) before he’ll be in the clear. That’s according to his twin brother and Madina Lake frontman, Nathan Leone, who took to the band’s blog on Monday to update fans on Matthew’s condition. “So we’d finally convinced the doctors to let me take Matthew home. He was going nuts in the hospital and they agreed that he would benefit from a more comfortable environment,” Nathan wrote. “The only goal at this point is [to] get him strong enough for his second brain surgery, which is scheduled for the 16th. “It’s going to be a tenuous couple of weeks, we’ll watch him 24 hours a day, make sure he sits still, rests and heals to the fullest extent possible,” the post continued. “We know from the doctors that his future prognosis remains guarded, since the permanency of the physical and neuropsychological damage is yet unknown.” As Nathan Leone told MTV News last week, his brother suffered a broken jaw and nose and a fractured skull after he attempted to break up a fight between a man and a woman on the streets of Chicago. As Leone called police, he was jumped from behind and left bleeding and unconscious. The beating was so severe, Nathan said, that doctors were forced to remove one-third of his brother’s skull to alleviate swelling on the brain. Chicago police have subsequently arrested 33-year-old Justin Pivec in connection with the attack, charging him with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to Leone and battery for the attack on his wife. And while Matthew Leone slowly recovers from the beating, his medical bills continue to pile up. According to Nathan Leone, neither he nor his brother has health insurance, and so, in order to help with their mounting bills, Madina Lake’s management have partnered with the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and Pledge Music to begin accepting donations on Matthew Leone’s behalf. New Documentary Film Exposes Pat Tillman Cover-Up

A new documentary set to hit the big screen this summer lifts the lid on the cover-up behind the death of Pat Tillman, the pro-football star who gave up a lucrative career to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq before preparing to return to the U.S. as an anti-war icon, at which point he was killed in a so-called friendly fire incident that more closely resembled a deliberate assassination. Whether or not the documentary delves into the question of whether Tillman’s death was a targeted act of murder remains to be seen, but the evidence strongly indicates that Tillman was deliberately assassinated in order to prevent him from becoming an anti-war icon and derailing public support in the United States for the ongoing occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. Tillman sacrificed the good life and a multi-million dollar football career in the belief that he was defending his country from outside enemies, and soon after 9/11 turned down a contract offer of $3.6 million over three years from the Cardinals to enlist in the U.S. Army. It was during Tillman’s second deployment to Afghanistan, after previously serving in Iraq, that he was killed by what the U.S. military initially claimed was a Taliban ambush. It later emerged that the ambush story had been concocted by the Pentagon in an attempt to exploit Tillman’s death for pro-war propaganda. Subsequent investigations claimed that Tillman was killed as a result of a friendly fire accident. However, in July 2007, the results of an Army medical report found that Tillman had been shot three times in the head with an M16 from a mere 10 yards away, clearly suggesting that the incident was a targeted assassination. “Army medical examiners were suspicious about the close proximity of the three bullet holes in Pat Tillman’s forehead and tried without success to get authorities to investigate whether the former NFL player’s death amounted to a crime,” reported the Associated Press. The motive for the murder would undoubtedly have been Tillman’s plans to return to the U.S. and a vocal critic of the Afghanistan and Iraq invasions. The evidence points directly to it and the motivation is clear – Tillman abandoned a lucrative career in pro-football immediately after 9/11 because he felt a rampaging patriotic urge to defend his country, and became a poster child for the war on terror as a result. But when he discovered that the invasion of Iraq was based on a mountain of lies and deceit and had nothing to do with defending America, he became infuriated and was ready to return home to become an anti-war hero. In September 2005, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that a friend of Tillman had set up a meeting with author and prominent war critic Noam Chomsky, which was scheduled to take place after Tillman’s return from Afghanistan. Chomsky confirmed that the meeting was arranged. As far back as March 2003, immediately after the invasion of Iraq, Tillman famously told his comrade Spc. Russell Baer, “You know, this war is so fucking illegal,” and urged his entire platoon to vote against Bush in the 2004 election. During a July 2007 appearance on Keith Olbermann’s MSNBC show, four star General Wesley Clark stated that “the orders came from the very top” to cover-up the nature of Tillman’s death as he was a political symbol and his opposition to the war in Iraq would have rallied the population around supporting immediate withdrawal. Watch the trailer for The Tillman Story, which is due for cinema release in August. Paul Joseph Watson Prison Planet.com Tuesday, June 29, 2010 General Stanley McChrystal is definitely implicated in the cover up. He was fired for comments in a Rolling Stone magazine last week, instead of being investigated 6 years ago for his part in the Tillman cover-up. added by: rodstradamus
