Wentworth Miller took to his Facebook to address a meme that has been circulating and revealed he too struggled with similar issues: Today I found myself the subject of an Internet meme. Not for the first time. This one, however, stands out from the rest. In 2010, semi-retired from acting, I was keeping a low-profile for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I was suicidal. This is a subject I’ve since written about, spoken about, shared about. But at the time I suffered in silence. As so many do. The extent of my struggle known to very, very few. Ashamed and in pain, I considered myself damaged goods. And the voices in my head urged me down the path to self-destruction. Not for the first time. I’ve struggled with depression since childhood. It’s a battle that’s cost me time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights. In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through. There were stretches when the highlight of my week was a favorite meal and a new episode of TOP CHEF. Sometimes that was enough. Had to be. And I put on weight. Big f–king deal. One day, out for a hike in Los Angeles with a friend, we crossed paths with a film crew shooting a reality show. Unbeknownst to me, paparazzi were circling. They took my picture, and the photos were published alongside images of me from another time in my career. “Hunk To Chunk.” “Fit To Flab.” Etc. My mother has one of those “friends” who’s always the first to bring you bad news. They clipped one of these articles from a popular national magazine and mailed it to her. She called me, concerned. In 2010, fighting for my mental health, it was the last thing I needed. Long story short, I survived. So do those pictures. I’m glad. Now, when I see that image of me in my red t-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle. My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without. Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist. Anyway. Still. Despite. The first time I saw this meme pop up in my social media feed, I have to admit, it hurt to breathe. But as with everything in life, I get to assign meaning. And the meaning I assign to this/my image is Strength. Healing. Forgiveness. Of myself and others. Black mental health matters… MarShawn McCarrel Commits Suicide An activist in the Black Lives Matter movement has died. MarShawn McCarrel, 23, killed himself Monday outside the steps of Ohio’s statehouse after posting on social media that his “demons won.” Prior to his death he was celebrated for his work in raising awareness on Ohio’s homelessness and was named one of Radio One’s Hometown Champions. The New York Daily News reports: A Black Lives Matter activist killed himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, authorities said. MarShawn McCarrel, 23, shot himself in front of the Columbus building Monday evening, Lt. Craig Cvetan of the State Highway Patrol told the Columbus Dispatch. “My demons won today. I’m sorry,” the activist, who recently attended the NAACP Image Awards, posted on his Facebook page about 3 p.m., just hours before his body was found near the Statehouse. His last tweet read: “Let the record show that I pissed on the state house before I left.” No one witnessed the shooting, Cvetan said. McCarrel was pronounced dead at the scene. McCarrel, who had recently worked with Black Lives Matter, helped organize protests in Ohio after a Missouri cop shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in 2014. He also founded youth mentorship program Pursuing Our Dreams, which launched Feed the Streets, a project to help Ohio’s homeless. He attended the NAACP’s Image Awards on Friday, Pursuing Our Dreams wrote on its Facebook. So, so sad to hear that this young brother took his own life. Condolences to the family.
Last week, Kourtney Kardashian stopped by the Ellen show and basically confirmed that Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles are dating . Now it looks like Kendall may be wishing that her big sis had held off on sharing that news with the public, as insiders are claiming that Harry’s still acting single. According to Radar Online, a 27-year-old stylist named Pandora Lennard recently spent the night at Harry’s home in London . Sources close to the situation say Harry and Pandora are longtime friends who hooked up after a night of partying over the weekend. “Everyone knew they were attracted to each other and they have been pals for a while,” says one insider. “But we didn’t think anything would happen as Harry and Kendall are officially an item. This is gobsmacking.” Reached for comment about the situation Lennard simply replied, “I have absolutely no comment to make.” Yikes. Sounds like this gloriously-coiffed couple may be over before they officially start. Rumors that they’re more than just friends began when Harry and Kendall went on vacation together over the holidays, but neither party has spoken publicly about the relationship. Some say they’re dating, but there have also been rumors that Harry and Kendall are just hooking up . We hope that’s the case for Kendall’s sake. File this one under couples we never could’ve seen coming in a million, billion years. Yes, TMZ is reporting that Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are hooking up. Given their long history of entangled alliances, and the fact that Rob is basically a sickly shut-in these days, that may sound incredibly unlikely, but the site offers up some pretty compelling evidence. In fact, it looks like Blac basically spilled the beans on her Instagram account this morning: The photo on the left was posted by Ms. Chyna just moments ago with a caption reading, “The beginning.” The photo on the right shows Rob’s heavily tattooed left arm. Certainly seems to be the same appendage. The idea of these two as a couple is mind-blowing for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Rob has been living as a recluse and coping with serious physical and mental health issues for the past several months. Add to that the fact that Blac’s been embroiled in an intense feud with Kylie Jenner for the better part of two years, and this begins to look like the the most random celebrity couple in recent memory. Blac, of course, was formerly engaged to Tyga, who’s now dating Rob’s youngest sister. She’s been very open about her feelings toward Kylie, but there was a time when Blac was a Kardashian family friend . In fact, at one point, she was pretty much Kim’s BFF. Lark Voorhies’ estranged husband Jimmy Green reportedly shopped this picture of her smoking what appears to be marijuana after she filed for divorce. Jimmy Green Lied About Sex Tape For Publicity And To Hurt Wife Lark Voorhies Lark Voorhies’ estranged husband hatched a desperate plan to humiliate her and generate quick cash by leaking details of a FAKE sex tape, BOSSIP can reveal. Last week Voorhies filed for divorce from Jimmy Green, her hubby of six months, citing irreconcilable differences. Green then tried to shop the photo above of the former “Saved By The Bell” star smoking what appeared to be a marijuana blunt, but abandoned that idea and upped the ante by telling the world he had a video of them having sex, a friend of the couple said. But BOSSIP has learned the entire sex tape story was a hoax motivated by Green’s increasingly frenzied search for money and publicity for his fledgling rap career. Green also wanted to hurt Voorhies once she changed her cell phone number after her mother filed a restraining order against him, the couple’s friend Marky Hutt told us. “The sex tape doesn’t exist,” Hutt told BOSSIP. “It was a ploy to get Lark to contact him because of the restraining order. He doesn’t even have a phone. He’s broke. He takes the bus. Any sex that happens is in her mother’s house.” And how does Hutt know all of this? The part-time PR man said he gave Green the idea for the fake sex tape when Green reached out to him claiming he was “stressed, need(ing) some money,” according to Facebook messages provided to BOSSIP. “Unfortunately, that was my idea, and I regret it,” Hutt said. Hutt – who met Voorhies through mutual friends a few years ago – said Green went as far as to ask Hutt to pose as a reporter to get Voorhies’ new phone number, all the while claiming Voorhies didn’t want to divorce, but her mother, Trish was pushing her into it. Green also claimed Voorhies liked to pop sleeping pills during the day, Hutt said, adding that the jobless Green told him since he’s no longer welcome at Voorhies’ parents’ home, he’d spend the day at the library around the corner. “It was creepy,” Hutt said. Hutt said he got cold feet about the sex tape charade and decided to speak out because he’s worried Green’s lie would send Voorhies – who has had a history of mental health problems – into a downward spiral. He said he’s witnessed Voorhies talk to herself and speak to inanimate objects like trees even when she’s taking her medication. “She lives a very sheltered life, which is understandable when you have people like this trying to take advantage,” Hutt said. “She doesn’t need this kind of publicity about a sex tape. The discussion took place on today’s broadcast of the Fox News program, America’s Newsroom with guests Marjorie Clifton, former Obama campaign consultant, and journalist Mary Katherine Ham talking about often-cited factors like mental health and gun control laws. At the 3:40 mark in video procured by Media Matters, after discussing shootings in Norway and the Czech Republic, MacCallum makes the remark. “Now it may be statistically, Mary Katherine, that it has happened here more,” she says. “That may be because of the kind of society we are. We have a lot of different cultures living here together. We’re a very unique society and that’s a very wonderful thing, in large part. But that may be a contributing factor here.” SMH. So it’s Black folks’ fault for living too close to white people? So by her logic, maintaining segregation would have just kept everything calm and peaceful…since that worked SO WELL the first time around. SMH.
