All About The Benjamins: Club Promoters Give Diddy The Side-Eye For Demanding 45 Stacks To Host Afterparty

You know what they say, “scared money don’t make no money” Diddy (a k a Sean Combs) wants cold, hard cash from a club to host the after-party for his Diddy Dirty Money tour date in New York later this month. Sources say the rapper — who’s touring smaller venues in support of his “Last Train to Paris” release and will play the Hammerstein Ballroom on April 22 — has been asking for as much $45,000 from Manhattan clubs to host an after-party, with $25,000 payable to the artist when the venue signs on the dotted line and the rest three days before the party jumps off. But those close to the club scene say Manhattan boites have been balking at that figure. “It’s unlikely that [a club] in New York would pay that amount,” said one top nightlife promoter. “For that amount of money, Vegas makes sense. That’s normal for Vegas. New York doesn’t work like that.” Sources said that Diddy’s team of promoters finally located a West Orange, NJ, venue willing to fork over the loot — but that when he heard the party wasn’t going to be in the Big Apple, he balked. Additional items on Diddy’s rider include: He’d also want a waitress assigned specifically to his posse, as well as 12 bottles of Ciroc vodka, 10 bottles of Moët rose Champagne, two bottles of Patron Platinum, five bottles of Hypnotiq and — we’re not sure what to make of it — ice that “must be clean.” 45 grand is a lot of money, but for what its worth there’s no telling which of Puff’s celebrity would bring with him and that could mean a big money night for any club. Do you think that this money is too much even for a celebrity of Diddy’s status?? Source

Bolitics: Uncle Luke Comin’! To Miami-Dade’s Mayoral Race…

After decades of influencing Miami’s young to “pop that thang baby!” Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is making good on previous comments that he’d consider running for Mayor of Miami. Campbell is one of nearly a dozen people who indicated they want to be Miami-Dade’s next mayor by filing the necessary paperwork to be placed on the May 24th special election ballot. The mayoral seat was left vacant after a March 15 recall election where 88 percent of voters said then Mayor Carlos Alvarez should be removed from office. The deadline to file was 5 p.m. Tuesday April 12th. According to CBS reports : Before filing his paperwork, Campbell addressed a group in Miami Beach. “My major hurdle is people taking me seriously, a lot of people think this is a joke,” Campbell told the crowd who swore he’s serious about the mayor’s job. “I call it a banana republic and I’m serious about it. You look at the commission and they make their own rules as they go, regardless of what the county attorney says, they make their own rules, just do what they want. They have no respect for the people.” Hmmm… “they make their own rules, just do what they want.” Sounds like someone else we know! Here’s an excerpt from a press release Campbell issued yesterday: Although many ask if he is serious, there is nothing funny about the issues that Miami-Dade County faces and Luther Campbell is extremely serious about the revitalization of Miami-Dade County. His platform focuses on four important issues: Economic Development, Public Safety, Community Revitalization and Affordable Housing. Campbell believes that Miami-Dade County government has a responsibility to ensure that every citizen has access to safe and affordable housing. He believes that it is important to restore public trust, build stronger bonds between law enforcement and community and enhance current public safety and crime prevention programs. Additionally, in order to promote economic development, Campbell supports responsible growth and development, small business expansion, attraction of new businesses, generating new revenue sources for our county and job creation. Finally, if elected, Campbell will take the opportunity to enrich our landscape by refocusing, restructuring and rebuilding to achieve the ‘highest and best use’ of our commercial and residential resources by enhancing the “look and feel” of our neighborhoods and improving the visual impression of our county and instilling a sense of community and neighborhood pride. If elected, will Luther Campbell be remembered for “Changin’ The Game”? Or will he leave the people of Miami-Dade “Scarred”??? Would you vote for Luke Skywalker?

Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell Drops ‘Heart Is King’

‘It’s a track I designed just for my shows,’ DJ/producer tells MTV News of the Miami Music Week banger. By Adam Stewart Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell Photo: MTV News After a tremendous showing during this year’s Miami Music Week, both as a solo artist and with his Scandinavian brethren in Swedish House Mafia, Axwell released his long-awaited solo track “Heart Is King” on Monday (April 4). Axwell’s fans — and MTV News — have had their eyes and ears peeled for this latest release since he first teased a crowd with it at the Montreux Sundance – Electronic Music Festival in Switzerland last May. The new track is classic big-room Axwell, garnished with spine-tingling strings and a driving, progressive riff. “It’s kind of a neo-classical type of thing,” Axwell told MTV News when we caught up with him in Miami. “It’s a little like filtered house, and it has this break, [and] a pretty classical type of melody. There’s no vocal or anything. It’s just like a track I wanted to get out there, something I wanted to get off of my chest for a while. It’s a track I designed just for my shows, and [especially] when it’s a big show.” “Heart Is King” got a series of live plays at MMW’s biggest shows, including Axwell’s solo night at LIV, Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand and Steve Angello’s Size Matters showcase, which closed out Beatport Beach. And it was without question one of the week’s biggest tracks, eliciting roars from the crowd each time it dropped. Of course, Axwell has a reputation for bringing it big, and his latest cut is right up there in epic-ness with the other songs from his extensive catalog like “Feel the Vibe” and “Nothing but Love.” “Heart” is likely to be just the first of a slew of major Miami tracks to come out of the SHM camp, joining Tim Mason’s “The Moment” (set for an April 6 release on Angello’s Size imprint) and the trio’s new single “Save the World,” whose release date has yet to be announced. All of the new tracks coming from the Swedes and their signees incorporate innovative sounds that vibe with the ever-morphing house-music flavor. As demonstrated on “Heart Is King,” Axwell keeps the music fresh but also skillfully harnesses other genres. “There will always be certain subgenres coming up and down,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it’s all about the love and the house music and just bringing it! People always come back to mama. They go around, venture around — dubstep, tribal, drum and bass. At the end of the night, when they wanna come home? They come back to house!” Fans can download the track at Beatport.com . Did you get to hear Axwell’s “Heart Is King” live in Miami? Let us know what you think in the comments below! David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren Bring Ultra Music Fest To A Close

All-star lineup of Erick Morillo, Wolfgang Gartner, Laidback Luke, will.i.am, Diddy, Chemical Brothers and many more close out three-day bash. By Akshay Bhansali David Guetta and Flo Rida perform at Ultra Music Fest Photo: MTV News MIAMI — On its third and final day, the Ultra Music Festival delivered a blazing one-two punch of trance and house star power for the 50,000 fans in attendance on closing day of the annual get-together held at Bicentennial Park. The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am joined an impressive roster of house-music performers that included Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera , Wolfgang Gartner and David Guetta. Dutch trance music star Armin van Buuren celebrated the 500th broadcast of his A State of Trance show, this time dubbed ASOT 500, in honor of the milestone. The show filled in the slot normally taken by Carl Cox’s stage on Friday and Saturday, and van Buuren brought some well-known trance-DJ friends like Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, ATB and the night’s closer, Sander Van Doorn, all of whom helped to pack a few thousand fans into the tent, chest to back, to capacity. Just before 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, AVB joined friend/countryman/collaborator Corsten onstage. But a hug and a few jokes later and it was van Buuren’s turn to steer the ASOT 500 ship, and he throttled into his set. Van Buuren also held down hosting duties throughout the night, revealing in an on air-interview with ATB the pair have collaborated on a track titled “Vice Versa.” On the main stage, Gartner didn’t just hit fans with hits like “Spacejunk,” “Illmerica,” and his deadmau5 collabo, “Animal Rights.” He also tested out a few new songs, including still-unreleased gems “818,” and his next single, the electro-house banger “Forever,” which features vocals by will.i.am. Later, house legend Morillo blessed the crowd with three top-notch vocalists: Rachel Starr, former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta, and powerhouse singer Shawnee Taylor took turns joining him onstage. Fans sang along with Taylor as she belted the hits “Stronger” and “Live Your Life” among others. Finally, Diddy joined his buddy Morillo onstage, dropping his bars from Dirty South’s remix of Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” a Miami Music Week DJ-set staple. David Guetta was feeling particularly electro-clubby. He hammered fans with hair-raising renditions of his material, kicking things off with “Gettin’ Over You,” and then a baritone horn-driven thumper of a tune that some fans may have heard days before at Mansion. Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am joined Guetta onstage at various points of the night, adding vocals to Guetta’s remixes of BEP hits “The Time,” and “I Gotta Feeling.” But probably the more unexpected cameo was Flo Rida, who showed up with an entourage of Super Soaker-wielding friends and charged onto the stage for the Guetta/Flo hit “Club Can’t Handle Me.” Perhaps the most moving moment of the day came when rising star Afrojack joined Guetta and addressed the audience. “Miami, last year, I played here for the first time, through David,” Afrojack said. “I had a great time. David is all about the love. David, I love you. Miami, I love you. This guy is the f—ing sh–! So Miami, make some noise for David Guetta!” Needless to say, the crowd seemed to agree with the 22-year-old Dutch phenom. They returned his request with a roar. Rick Ross Says Wale Has Kanye West ‘Potential’

Maybach Music Group boss tells MTV News, ‘The rhymes Wale has been laying down the last few months’ recall ‘Ye. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross might not have gotten his man in Wiz Khalifa , who he wanted to ink to a deal with his Maybach Music Group, but the Miami boss’ first pick, Wale , wasn’t a bad backup. Ross thinks the Washington, D.C., rhyme spitter has a chance to follow in the footsteps of another guy who was also considered “unconventional” when he first signed on with his crew. Wale could be the next Kanye West, Ross told MTV News. “They may be unconventional, but to me, it comes naturally,” Ross said about moving to sign Wale and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. “After spending months of my summer working with Kanye , I learned and seen so many different visions and ideas come to light. I was there for ‘Flashing Lights,’ when it was actually titled another title that me and Kanye went back and forth about. And when I think about Wale, I think about Kanye. “And the kind of rhymes Wale has been laying down the last few months, since we been in the studio, I’m pretty sure there’s gonna be a lot of similarities as far as the pictures that he paints,” the Bawse continued. “Of course, Kanye is one of the greats of our time but I see that same potential in Wale.” At the moment, Ross and his MMG roster, which also includes Pill, his Triple C fam and Masspike Miles, among others, are working on the Self Made compilation set to arrive on “Maybach 24.” Ross suggested Wale’s next solo album should be out “two to three months after that” group project. While the Maybach Music head said Wale is poised to make big waves, the Miami MC was making waves of his own over the weekend, but probably not the kind he’s aiming for. Ross was arrested on Friday in Louisiana on a marijuana possession charges and subsequently released with a misdemeanor summons. Ross is now in New York and scheduled to take the stage in Long Island on Monday night (March 28) as part of Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour lineup. What do you think of Ross comparing Wale to Kanye? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Wale Kanye West

Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Masquerade Motel’ Takes Over South Beach

Thousands of fans treated to sight and sound spectacular during trio’s Miami Music Week ‘One Night Stand.’ By Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart Swedish House Mafia Photo: 2010 Denise Truscello MIAMI — Swedish House Mafia attempted — and executed — a spectacle of mammoth proportions on Miami’s South Beach shore on Saturday. With close to 15,000 masked fans checked in and hundreds of others watching and dancing alongside a massive tent, the house music super-group treated their fans to the nine-hour mini-festival that was “Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand.” While the three Swedes were the headliners, their supporting lineup alone was worth marveling over: Junior Sanchez, A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, Max Vangeli, AN21, Dirty South, and Pete Tong (who also emceed the event) were among the big-name performers. But when it came time for Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso to take the stage, it was clear this show would be like no other Miami has seen. The curtain dropped to reveal a massive, 40-foot structure adorned with LED screens, lights, pyro and speakers. And with the trio standing at the center of it all, the crowd exploded. Swedish House Mafia opened with their late-summer 2010 anthem, “Miami 2 Ibiza,” which was followed by “Dynamite,” a new track by Alesso, who was recently signed to Ingrosso’s Refune Record Label. Then followed the stream of new music fans had been eagerly awaiting. SHM dropped a block of fresh tunes, a highlight of which was an off-center, Arabian-style techno monster that the crowd went berserk for, as the guys danced onstage in sync with their fans. Then there was a remix of deadmau5 ‘s “Strobe.” Next was Marco V’s “Reaver” and a mash-up of Angello’s “Show Me Love” and “KNAS,” which kicked the show into overdrive, accompanied by a stunning visual display. Kaskade Tears Up The Decks At LIV In Miami

Miami Music Week continues with one of EDM’s best. By Adam Stewart Kaskade Photo: KirillWasHere.com MIAMI — It was another big night at Fontainebleau’s LIV nightclub, where Miami’s A-list once again turned out to champion one of dance music’s best. After Laidback Luke’s “Super You & Me” party featuring Skrillex on Wednesday night and an epic set by Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell on Thursday, the room was redecorated and the stage was set to host a full night devoted to none other than Kaskade. Kicking off his day with a surprise guest set at Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Pool Party at the Surfcomber, Kaskade (born Ryan Raddon) arrived at LIV fully warmed up by the energetic bikini-clad crowd. The line stretched out into the street and the venue was jam-packed with diehard fans lucky enough to get on the right side of the velvet rope of one of Miami Music Week’s biggest shows. Mid-set, a tripped fire alarm caused a brief intermission while the system reset. The crowd, however, egged on by Kaskade’s impromptu storytelling and comedic sense on the mic, began their own frenzied chants, including the hook from the circa-2000 techno hit “Kernkraft 400” by Zombie Nation, a moment that sparked nostalgia for more than just a few in the crowd. But when the green light came to turn the music back to max, Kaskade kicked the party into high gear. Raddon has always had a knack for bringing his biggest to the stage, and tonight was no exception. With a massive remix of his and Deadmau5’s “Move for Me” — transformed into a very catchy, wobbly synthed banger — the crowd couldn’t resist the temptation to sing along to the new rendition of one of his biggest hits ever. He then dropped a rework of another one of his original smashes, this time with “Don’t Stop Dancing Girl,” which he infused with melodic piano riffs and thumping beats. Shortly thereafter, Raddon, known for his penchant for mash-ups, which he often shares with his fans on #MusicMondays, dropped a mix of Marco V’s “Reaver” with Red Carpet’s 2007 smash “Alright.” Rounding out the hour with Max Vangeli and AN21’s remix of Pendulum’s “The Island,” Raddon again set the bar as one of the world’s premier DJs, whose success and talent in the studio transitions seamlessly to his live gigs and beyond. To those lucky enough to attend Kaskade’s night at LIV, it was one for the ages. Checking out Kaskade tonight on Ultra Music Festivals Main Stage?
