Robin Roberts Delays Transplant, Blogs Goodbye to Mother

Robin Roberts has updated her Good Morning America blog to reflect the two major events taking place at the moment in her personal life. The reporter tells fans she has delayed the start of her bone marrow transplant procedure because she is in Mississippi “standing proudly” with her family as loved ones say goodbye to Robin’s mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, who passed away on Thursday . She was scheduled to be admitted to the hospital today, but Roberts writes : “When I return to NYC and walk through those hospital doors next week momma will be right there with me. Light, love and blessings to all.” Roberts goes on to say of her 88-year old mother, who was the first black woman to chair the Mississippi State Board of Education: “She was there when I took my first breath and what a privilege to hold her sweet hand when she took her last breath… Momma knew she wasn’t physically able to be with me for my bone marrow transplant . My siblings say mom wanted to spare me the agony it would have been if she had passed and I couldn’t be there. That thought was weighing heavily on me. “Momma found a way to be with me every step of the way on my journey. I am humbled by her selflessness.” The GMA co-anchor will be away from her chair for approximately two months when she does finally undergo that transplant – in order to deal with a rare blood disorder known as myelodysplastic syndrome – and we wish her nothing but the absolute best.

Toddlers & Tiaras Contestant Smokes Cigarette on Stage, Sets Positive Example

The parents and youngsters of Toddlers & Tiaras will go to the greatest of lengths to make an impression, as we’ve seen in hooker outfits and the like over the years. Four-year-old Destiny smoking is just the newest, crudest example. Dressed up as Sandy from Grease, she took the stage in a black leather outfit, puffing from a prop cigarette. Now that’s sending a positive message! This makes Here Comes Honey Boo Boo look like wholesome TV. At least one judge deducted points on this episode for the use of the prop and the poor message it sends … which may be the understatement of all time. One wonders what doesn’t qualify for a deduction based on that, but we digress. Tell THG what you think of Destiny puffing on her cigarette below. Toddlers & Tiaras: Cancel it?

Mother of Robin Roberts Passes Away

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Robin Roberts today. The Good Morning America co-anchor – who is taking an extended leave of absence in order to receive a bone marrow transplant from her sister in response to a rare blood disorder – is now faced with a new personal tragedy: Her mother passed away last night. Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts was 88 years old and the first African American to head Mississippi’s Board of Education. Roberts flew to Mississippi yesterday to be by her ailing parent’s bedside and her GMA colleague George Stephanopoulos confirmed today that Robin did at least make it there in time to say goodbye. A note was distributed to ABC staff members last night that referred to Robin’s “beautiful and inspiring mother” and added: “It has always been clear where Robin got her strength, faith and spirit. You didn’t need to look far.”

F*ck A Politician: Prominent Senator “Accidentally” Kills Secretary With Machine Gun While Waiting For Food At A Restaurant

What the hell !?! That is on helluva accident. Police in Thailand say that they will charge a member of the Thai parliament with causing death by negligence for accidentally shooting his secretary dead with a sub-machine gun. Senator Boonsong Kowawisarat reportedly had in his possession a loaded 9mm Uzi submachine gun, though it is unclear why. According to police, the shooting took place inside a restaurant in the northern province of Phrae. The 55-year-old politician drew his weapon while he and his secretary, 46-year-old Chanakarn Detkard, were waiting to be served. The Uzi suddenly went off, and a bullet struck Chanakarn in her stomach. She was rushed to the hospital by the restaurant owner while Boonsong remained behind in shock. Due to his parliamentary privilege, the Senator has yet to be charged, but police expect he will ultimately be tried for death by negligence. If convicted, Boonsong faces as many as 10 years behind bars. Something ain’t clean in the water. He needs to be charged with murder if not at least carrying that type of weapon in public place. Did he have a license, why does he need to carry this type of weapon? Too many questions not being answered. Source

Flaming Lips Enlist Grace Potter, Neon Indian In O Music Awards Record Attempt

Band is aiming to top Jay-Z’s live concert record during the June 27 O Music Awards live stream. By Gil Kaufman The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images It takes a village to topple a record. That seems to be the thinking behind the Flaming Lips ‘ efforts to gather an army of musical cohorts to help them take aim at Jay-Z’s record for the most live concerts in 24 hours. As part of a record attempt that will take place over 24 hours during the June 27 O Music Awards , the Lips will try to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records by playing shows in eight different cities. We can now reveal that they will get some support from an eclectic group of musicians that includes festival favorites Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, modern bluesman Gary Clark Jr., country singer Hunter Hayes, and indie rock acts Givers, New Fumes, Neon Indian, and Grimes. Beginning June 27, the O Music Awards will play out across all of MTV’s screens and linear networks in the form of the world’s first 24-hour award-show live stream via a historic and hectic bus ride through the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of rock and roll. Two-time O Music Award nominees and multiple Grammy winners Flaming Lips will board a vintage tour bus named Endeavor and zigzag across the region in an attempt to break the world record currently held by Jay-Z for the most live concerts in 24 hours. More support acts will be named soon, and each will play a full set before making way for the Lips to take the stage for their mini-sets with unique collaborations and special guests. Tickets for the shows go on sale Thursday (June 7) and can be purchased through the individual venues. Partial proceeds from the show will be donated to VH1’s Save the Music Foundation . Also, the entire show will be streamed live on OMusicAwards.com and accessible on all platforms including mobile and tablets. “I don’t remember if I was asked or if I volunteered. … But I’ve accepted the job of not driving but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus,” Lips frontman Wayne Coyne told MTV News. “I’ve accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing eight shows in 24 hours. And I’ve explained to the music freaks at MTV, VH1 and CMT that I am not a host. … But I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon. To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at eight in the morning, well … I’m open to new experiences.” During the 24-hour live stream, 24 awards will be presented to winners. Fans can vote now up until the show via the O Music Awards website in a wide assortment of categories that include Must Follow Artist on Twitter, Best Online Concert Experience, Most Adorable Viral Star, Fan Army FTW, Best Music App and Digital Genius Award. Nearly 10 million votes have been cast since voting kicked off on May 23. You never know what’s going to happen on the live stream, where the Lips will be constantly “on,” as cameras follow them on the bus, on the stage and everywhere in between. Along the way, the band will meet up with fans and presenters who will dole out awards and, of course, deal with all the pitfalls and unexpected detours that a multi-state road trip entails — flat tires, stops at musical monuments, and perhaps the occasional music-making special guests and hitchhikers. The day before the big show, June 26, the Lips will release a physical version of The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, the previously digital-only album featuring unique collaborations with Yoko Ono, Nick Cave, Bon Iver, Ke$ha and an exclusive new track recorded with Ghostland Observatory’s Aaron Behrens. Cop Killer: Mississippi Police Fear That Someone Is Impersonating A Cop, Pulling People Over, And KILLING THEM!

As if it’s not already hard enough to trust a cop in Mississippi… Mississippi Police Think Cop Impersonator Is Killing Motorists Someone who may be posing as a police officer is pulling cars over on Mississippi highways and then shooting drivers dead, authorities said. After two such shootings this month, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public’s help to find the person. “There are some similarities between the two incidents, mainly the fact they happened alongside a Mississippi highway,” said MBI Director Lt. Col. Larry Waggoner on Monday. “The concern is that someone is posing as a law enforcement officer and that is how these vehicles end up on the side of the road.” The first shooting occurred on May 8. Thomas Schlender, 74, was found dead in his car in the median of southbound Interstate 55 about 1:30 a.m. On Friday, Lori Anne Carswell, 48, was found dead outside her car on the shoulder of Mississippi State Highway 713 about 2:15 a.m. The shootings took place about 55 miles apart, and the victims did not know each other, authorities said. Authorities are asking citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy. They advise drivers to call 911 and verify that a legitimate officer is pulling them over or drive to a well-lit, crowded place before stopping. Mississippi folks, protect ya neck! Make sure that the cop pulling you over is REALLY a cop! Source
