Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco And Jadakiss Hit The Court, Talk Music

‘Everybody’s hot right now,’ T.O. tells Mixtape Daily about his favorite music. By Shaheem Reid Jadakiss Photo: Shareif Ziyadat/Getty Images Celebrity Favorites: Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Jadakiss Harlem’s Rucker Park is a necessary destination for hip-hop and basketball royalty. Top NBA stars — from Kobe Bryant to Allen Iverson — have all come uptown to 155th Street to hoop it up over the years at the Entertainers Basketball Classic, while top-tier performers such as Jay-Z, Fat Joe and the Ruff Ryders have all had basketball teams rep them. A couple of days ago, it was the NFL’s chance to show love. Friends, VH1 reality stars and Pro Bowl athletes Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco came out. “The first time, I didn’t really know what to expect,” said T.O., who was suiting up to play. “It’s been some years. I had always heard about Rucker Park and all the And 1 guys that have come through here. A lot of legends have been out here and played on this court, from Kobe, J.R. Smith, all those guys. I’m no different. I’m just out here trying to fit in. I play all the time. I been working out and training out in L.A. A number of NBA guys train out there.” Ochocinco coached the team opposing T.O. The man formerly known as Chad Johnson said he couldn’t play because training camp is next week. “This is how I grew up, in the ‘hood.” the Cincinnati Bengals star said. “It’s always a good chance to give back. This is the first time I’ve had to be graced with the presence of the famous Rucker Park. It’s a pleasure for me to be here. A lot of great ones came through here. I don’t play no basketball, but it’s a pleasure to be here.” Jadakiss played for Ochocinco’s team. “I might suit up,” Jada said with a smile. “It’s good for the people. They wanna see your boy. I might go out there and run a little bit. Plus, I got my tournament next week up in Yonkers. I usually don’t bring the bigwigs to the playoff time. I’m pretty sure to have Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans. Hopefully John Wall, [DeMarcus] Cousins. All of the phenoms. It’s good for the kids, just to bring them out. It’s good for the community.” Ochocinco lists Jada as one of his favorite MCs right now. “Right now I’m on that Albert Anastasia, I’m on my dawg Ricky Ross real hard right now,” Ocho said. “I tweeted Jadakiss a couple of days go, showing him the love for everything he got going on. I listen to everybody, especially what’s coming out of New York. I really listen to what everybody has to say. I like lyrical content. I support everybody. I don’t care who you are. If you come out, I’mma get you.” T.O., who also DJs in his spare time, has a listening taste that varies as well. “I’m flexible. Everybody’s hot right now,” Owens said. “Got my man Jada, Young Jeezy, Drake, Weezy. I mean, dude, it’s so much music out. Keri Hilson. Everybody’s got some hot stuff out right now.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Rick Ross Got ‘Focused’ On The Albert Anastasia EP

With his tape dominating the streets, the Bawse tells Mixtape Daily how he got into ‘war’ mode to resuscitate his career. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross on his new mixtape, Albert Anastasia Photo: Maybach Music Mid-Season Salute: The Albert Anastasia EP Last year about this time, Rick Ross was in war mode, fighting for his career. People had questioned his street credibility and 50 Cent was straight going for his head. This year though, it’s rosy for Ricky Rozay. He has “Super High” getting spins on the radio and the records “(B.M.F.) Blowin’ Money Fast” and “MC Hammer” are dominating the streets. Ross’ whole outlook has changed. “That’s the beauty of art,” Ross told us. “You can take it and channel it any way you want to. Of course, I realize I put a lot of pollution out there as well that I wouldn’t this year. That was a part of me learning. I’ll forever be attracted to some form or fashion of war. I feel it’s competitive but at the same time, I’m focused on my numbers. I’m focused on my business. I’m focused on my brand. I wanna see other things blossom around me, versus back-and-forth with nothing. For the most part, I feel when you prioritize your business, that’s the result — that’s the advice I’ve been given for so long. I’m trying it out.” While Ross’ Teflon Don comes out July 20, for now, we have to turn our attention to one of the hottest mixtapes of the year: The Albert Anastasia EP. “It’s more than just an extended play,” Ross explained to Mixtape Daily of the tape. “Because when I started recording and it was sounding too good, I wanted to put more songs in there than what I wanted to initially. But it’s The Albert Anastasia EP. I named it that because Albert Anastasia was a self-made man. He was a boss. He was a lot less celebrated. He was more focused on getting his job done, handling his business. Of course, he ultimately came to an untimely demise. But I feel when it’s time to go, it’s always untimely, so what’s the difference?” “Sweet Life” with John Legend, “Knife Fight” with Kool G Rap and, of course, “300 Soldiers” are definite highlights. ” ‘Money Maker,’ free Lil Wayne,” Ross said. “Boi-1da did the production. We shot the clip in Barbados; we had a lot of fun out there. The video is real visual. It’s about where we come from and what a lot of people are willing to do to get where they going.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Wiz Khalifa Calls Rick Ross’ ‘Super High’ Remix ‘A Blessing’

‘It was a good look for me,’ Wiz tells Mixtape Daily of Ross’ co-sign. By Shaheem Reid Wiz Khalifa The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Wiz Khalifa and his partner Curren$y aligned forces with Rick Ross for “Super High (Sativa Remix),” and the Spiff TV-directed viral video came out this week. “That was a blessing, dude,” Wiz said about the collaboration. “Ross just kept it G, dawg. He seen my movement, he seen Curren$y’s movement. He recognized what we do together, but he recognized us as individuals as well as a team. He reached out in a real way. Spiff [TV] called us. I think he reached out to Spitta first. Then Spiff, he reached out to me. I was still on another leg of my tour. So as soon as I got done with the last leg of my tour, soon as I got home, I went straight to the studio and knocked out the verse, sent it to Ross. He was like, ‘I love it. I’m flying you out next week. We doing the video.’ ” “Yeah, you know, I’m VP, A&R over at Maybach Music Group,” said Spiff, who has known Wiz for years. “Ross called me and said he’s putting together a remix and he wants Wiz and Curren$y. So I reached out, sent them the track the next day, and they did their thing. They came to ATL, Ross knocked his verse out the next day. I shot the video to Wiz and Curren$y via Twitter.” “It came together on some G sh–,” Wiz said. “Ross is hella talented. Everybody knows Spitta’s the best. It was only right we do that sh–.” Wiz said the Ross co-sign is his biggest yet. “It was a good look for me, because hasn’t been nobody really big, anybody who’s as influential in the game right now as Ross is saying, ‘I really f—s with Wiz,’ or, like, been seen on camera with me. That was a big power move for the both of us.” Aside from Ross, Wiz — who’s still trying to figure out when to release his Cabin Fever mixtape — and Curren$y still want to put out a mini-film based on their How Fly tape. “We always gonna be working. There’s never not gonna be something going on with me and Spitta,” Khalifa promised. “People can look for music. He just called me the other day. He’s about to drop his album, which is amazing. I’m working on my sh–. Then whenever we decide to get back together and do what we do, I think [the Taylor Gang and the Jets] gonna be right here waiting for us.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Royce Da 5’9" Talks Possible Slaughterhouse, Solo Deals With Eminem

‘Just because the paperwork ain’t done don’t mean we ain’t been working,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Royce Da 5’9″ Photo: Djamilla Rosa Cochran/ WireImage The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Hope everyone enjoyed their Fourth of July holiday! We’re fresh from New Orleans and the Essence Music Fest. N.O., thank you again for always showing love. Make sure you read up on our adventures out there elsewhere on the website. On to the business at hand: Mixtape Daily ‘s periodic check-in on the Slaughterhouse/ Shady Records deal . The group (Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I) still isn’t officially signed as of yet, but we asked Royce whether he would ink with Shady as a solo artist if his team is onboard. After all, Royce has been traveling with Marshall, and the two have a long history. “We haven’t talked about that,” Royce said of a solo deal with Shady. “Right now, we just chillin’. We’re getting back acclimated, being around each other, getting the creative juices flowing. Making sure we’re on the same page creatively. We’re just gonna focus on the Slaughterhouse album right now. “Man, I haven’t thought about it,” Royce reiterated about his solo deal. “After I put this next album out, I’m a free agent. So I’m sure it’s a possibility. But it’s not something we’re really thinking about right now. I’m gonna totally focus on the group, because I think [this] sh– could be something special.” Royce said he’s hoping Slaughterhouse can drop a project this year and he can come with a solo opus sometime in 2011. “Depending on when this deal closes, which should be very soon, I think I’m gonna put my focus on the group,” he said. “I got a lot of material done for my solo album, but I wanna take my time with it. I’m looking at next year for my album. I’ve been doing sh– sporadically. I wanna put all my focus into the Slaughterhouse album first. I would like for my album to catapult off the next Slaughterhouse album. We’re gonna cancel everything. We did the last [Slaughterhouse] album so fast, because we was behind the eight ball, time-wise. It ain’t gonna be no timeline on this album. We going in, and we gonna keep recording until it’s right.” Meanwhile, as Slaughterhouse continue to work on separate projects (Royce just released the mixtape Bar Exam 3 and Ortiz has his Yaowa tape dropping in the next few weeks), the Nine Nickel said Em is making sure they stay active as a collective while they wait on the label paperwork. “Em gave me all types of tracks. Dre beats,” Royce said. “Just because the paperwork ain’t done don’t mean we ain’t been working. We definitely been throwing ideas around. [Em] stressed he wants to have a lot of involvement in the project. We want him to be as involved as he wants to be. Anytime he runs an idea by me, I respect him so much, I’m down with it. If he gives me a beat, like, ‘Yo, y’all would sound ill on this,’ I’m going to record it. That’s pretty much what we been doing. He hasn’t did no beats and gave me nothing yet, but he has given me a lot of beats from other producers.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Game Talks Beanie Sigel Verse, Insists He Didn’t Dis Drake

‘Beans, he sounds hungry, like he ain’t have his hair braided in six years,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of R.E.D. Album track. Game Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive For the most part, you will never get an MC to admit that he did a song with another spitter, and that spitter’s rhymes were so ferocious he had to go back to the drawing board to pen another verse. But Game doesn’t care. His pedigree as a lyricist is well-documented, so when he spoke to

3OH!3 Talk ‘Rad’ New Album, Streets Of Gold

‘We were inspired by gold,’ Nathaniel Motte jokes to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias 3OH!3 Photo: MTV News For 3OH!3’s album Streets of Gold, out Tuesday (June 29), they decided to seek inspiration from things they know a lot about — like partying. Would you expect anything else from the “Don’t Trust Me” singers? ” Want did really well and kept doing better, so we didn’t really have time [to make a follow-up],” Nathaniel Motte told MTV News of their breakthrough album. “We finally carved out some time to make this album, which is rad. We were inspired by gold.” The duo also wrote music about their new rock-star lifestyle. “I think there’s a few completely different things on the album,” Sean Foreman said. “Some of it’s really fun and just about kind of our life on the road and parties. There’s some heavier songs [too].” But don’t think the party-song dudes have left behind the sounds that made them household names. If you hear any new vibes on the album, they say it’s just because they have grown as musicians. “While we were touring, we managed to work in the studio, and I think we’ve learned so much as songwriters and as producers making music and making tracks,” Motte said, adding that this album is a “more developed [and] more defined album. It’s inspired by a lot of stuff.” Some of that stuff includes first love, as evidenced on their Ke$ha-fied single “First Kiss,” and, well, house parties. “I think we stretched. As much diversity as there was on the last album, we just pulled that and stretched it further,” Foreman said. “You get stuff on either end of the spectrum — like ‘House Party’ is crazy and has the craziest production, and it’s just a fun anthem that you’d want to sing with all your friends. And then there’s stuff on the other end of it, where it might be a little bit more singing and stuff like that.” Are you looking forward to 3OH!3’s latest album? Let us know in the comments!

Big K.R.I.T. Hopes Fans Will ‘Relate To And Respect’ His Music

‘People can see the growth from when I first did my first project until now,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Jayson Rodriguez Big K.R.I.T. Photo: Def Jam Fire Starter: Big K.R.I.T. He’s Def Jam’s latest recruit, hailing from below the Mason-Dixon Line, via Meridian, Mississippi. The new homie’s name is Big K.R.I.T., a rapper and producer, who was personally inked to the legendary label by none other than Sha Money XL, the former G-Unit president who recently joined the House that Russell Built. His breakout mixtape, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, hit the Internet a few months ago and slowly picked up steam, earning praise from music critics and bloggers alike. According to the Creative Control/ DD172 affiliate, the project — an earnest collection of soul-inflected Southern hip-hop — was five years in the making. “People can see the growth from when I first did my first project until now,” K.R.I.T. told Mixtape Daily. “And they can see the growth and me really finding myself as an artist. And really not compromising my creative mind frame for what’s going on in the industry and just being myself and putting the music out. The first record is ‘Return of 4eva.’ It was really just telling the game we here on some Southern hip-hop and this is us. And this is the type of music that I’m gonna put out. And I just hope that people can relate to it and respect it.” “Return of 4eva” is among the standouts on K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, along with “Children of the World”; both feature Creative Control-directed clips. The Mississippi artist became aligned with the burgeoning downtown Manhattan movement after joining forces with music-industry mover Jonny Shipes last year. He then found himself spending time in Dame Dash’s 24 Hour Karate School dojo and collaborating with Curren$y and the loose collection of creative types at the hip-hop mogul’s studio. Now that he has signed on the dotted line with Def Jam and joined a roster that includes Rick Ross, Nas and Young Jeezy, the newcomer is honing his Pimp C-like vocals and beats in hopes of making the next Southern masterpiece. “I’m UGK-influenced, ” K.R.I.T. said. “They had their own vibe, how they did their music. They did whatever they felt like they wanted to on record. They the next-door neighbor where I’m from, in Texas. So we were greatly influenced by their music. By Outkast. By 8Ball & MJG. That was the golden era to us.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

50 Cent And Floyd Mayweather Talk New Albums, Fake Rappers

Fif tells Mixtape Daily that he might scrap his Black Magic album for a new concept. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Tim Kash 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive For the original concept of his Black Magic album , 50 Cent said he was inspired by dance music while touring overseas. Now that he’s in the U.S., on the Invitation Tour , the G-Unit team captain said he has a whole other muse for a completely different album. “I started working on it,” 50 said last week in Los Angeles. “I been working on writing to a concept for Black Magic. … I recorded 19 songs. Then when I got back to the U.S., I started writing to a different concept. I spoke to Em. He called me when I was starting in Detroit.” Before Fif could go more in-depth about his upcoming album, his friend, Floyd Mayweather — who sat in on the interview as well — announced he has an LP as well. “We’re doing a compilation album,” Money Mayweather said. The boxing champ said he’ll be highlighting various artists on the project. “We’ll probably launch it in the heat of the next bout,” Fif said. “It’ll probably be the biggest fight in the history of the sport.” Of course, 50 was referring to the long-delayed Mayweather/ Manny Pacquiao title bout. Floyd wants Pacquiao to take Olympic-style drug testing, and Manny has resisted thus far. Back to the music: Fif and Mayweather agree that a lot of the hip-hop out right now has taken a softer turn. “It’ll just make room for you to impact when [the hardcore] comes back,” 50 assessed. “No one told the world to enjoy that [softer] music temporarily. I think a big portion of why people didn’t want to hear the aggressive content is because the people conveying them were lying.” “You got rappers in today’s time, they get a small advance from their record label, get a bunch of tattoos, a few piercings on their face, go to jail for 10 or 20 days, [then] they killers,” Mayweather weighed in. “Next time out, they rock stars. I think rap is crazy, but it’s still very creative.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

She thought it was a fight, because there were 200, 300 kids all around, trying to watch what’s going on.” “I was blown away by him,” said Hope, Pit’s drama teacher. “You couldn’t take your eyes off him.” Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, remembers that moment fondly and with appreciation: “When she saw it, she was the first person who really believed in me.” Pit once told MTV News his rise to fame has been an experiment and an education. He counts his struggles and his successes as a blessing. “If you continue to work hard, let that be the fuel to your fire.” Along with past hits like “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Go Girl,” you can catch Pitbull rollin’ with Enrique Iglesias and the “Jersey Shore” cast in Iglesias’ new single and video for “I Like It.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Pitbull, Vanessa Minnillo and Chris Paul — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

Bizarre Says Eminem, D12 ‘Back In The Lab’ For New Mixtape, Album

‘We’re in our little grimy studio and we’re knocking it out,’ Biz says, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Bizarre Photo: Shady The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive D12’s Bizarre says “the Band” is back in the lab making music together. The Detroit collective are simultaneously recording their next official LP and a new mixtape. “It took Marshall a little bit of time to get on his grind,” Biz said of his D12 partner Eminem. “Now he’s about to drop the Recovery album. I got my album, I snuck it in there,” added the rapper, who just released his solo independent LP, Friday Night at St. Andrews. “Right now we’re working on this mixtape. We decided we should work on this mixtape to get the streets a little hot right quick then drop the album. We’re kinda doing both at the same time. We’re definitely back in the lab working. All original material,” Biz said of the tape. “If you got some beats man, hit me up, man. We don’t discriminate when it comes to music — ain’t no politics with us. If you got some fresh music, some hotness, we got you.” Biz noted that with all the fellas back together after a long hiatus, which included grieving over the death of their partner Proof in 2006, the vibe finally felt right. “It’s good, man,” he said. “It’s a nice feelin’, man. We’re taking it back to the roots. We’re in our little grimy studio and we’re knocking it out. I can’t describe the feeling. To get back in there with the group and get on some beats, it’s a challenge within ourselves. We don’t even let each other hear each other’s verse before we rap, so you definitely need to be trying to come with it. It’s a friendly competition thing. It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s good pressure.” It’s probably no surprise that the guy who’s really terrorizing the booth on both efforts is Em. “Em is sounding crazy,” his longtime friend said. “He always sounds crazy. This dude is an alien. He’s probably got hundreds of raps thought about already, in different styles and different patterns. That’s one dude you can’t compare yourself to … or worry about what he’s doing. If you worry about that cat, you’re gonna be lost.” While his rhymes will surely reign on the D12 project, whether we’ll hear any beats from the Shady Records head is up in the air. “Em ain’t really into producing no more, but he’s gonna be on both projects,” Biz said. Neither D12 project has a release date, but Biz said he thinks the mixtape will drop in the fall on the mischief-making Devil’s Night. For now, Bizarre is pushing his solo LP and recording. “It’s a … historic place in Detroit,” he explained of his album’s title. “[St. Andrews], it was a church that they turned into a club and had hip-hop on Friday night. Being that Detroit is such a gangsta city, this was the only outlet we really had for hip-hop, breakdancing and battling. Basically, I’m paying homage.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .
