Tony Elumelu Launches $100 Million Program To Help Black Businesses Tony Elumelu, an attributed philanthropist and African billionaire has just launched a program to help African American businesses under his Toney Elumelu Foundation according to Financial Juneteenth : In 2014, Elumelu, along with other prominent American and African business moguls, partnered to form a summit in Washington DC that consisted of more than 45 African and American business heads, along with 50 African business leaders. The common theme of the platform was to see to the improvement in the economic stance of Africans, as well as African-Americans, and to create advancement opportunities for all who interacted. The vision set forth by Tony Elumelu is one that he believes merges more than simple aid; it creates a solid partnership between Africa and the U.S. It’s the beginning of a business journey that takes a different, but more rewarding, path for all of those invested. The trip to Africa taken by President Obama was another key indicator that steps are being taken in the right directions to strengthen business ventures between Africa and America. These attempts coexist with The Tony Elumelu Foundation as it extends its principles for growth to businesses owned or started by women and minorities. The most significant move, by far, is the entrepreneurship program that The Tony Elumelu Foundation will spearhead. It is designed on a financial standing of $100,000,000 to be disbursed among entrepreneurs throughout the U.S and Africa. This newly formed relationship between Africa and the U.S is one that can create a positive mode of growth for African American entrepreneurs who stay the course and take the route the foundation has designed. James McNair’s Family Paid $10 Million By Walmart For His Death In Tracy Morgan Car Crash ‘Bout damn time! Via DNAifno The family of a comedian friend of Tracy Morgan who was killed last June when a Wal-Mart truck crashed into a luxury van he was riding in got $10 million from the retail giant to settle a lawsuit, DNAinfo New York has learned. Wal-Mart made the large payout to the family of James McNair to avoid potential losses from litigation, the McNair family’s lawyer said in court papers. Under the settlement, McNair’s two children, Jamel, 26, and Denita, 19, will split the payout after their lawyer, Daryl Zaslow, takes a nearly $3 million cut, according to court records. The children had sued Wal-Mart after one of its trucks slammed into a limousine van carrying McNair, Morgan and other comedians on the New Jersey Turnpike on June 7, 2014. New Jersey police charged the truck’s driver, Kevin Roper, with death by automobile and four other vehicle assault charges. The McNairs signed the settlement in October, but the deal wasn’t announced until January. At the time, the terms of the settlement were not revealed because of a confidentiality agreement both sides signed. But legal documents filed last month in Westchester Surrogate’s Court revealed the big payout to James McNair’s estate — and that Wal-Mart did not want the settlement sum publicized for fear it would hurt business. Congratulations to the McNair family. No amount of money can even come close to replacing a person you love, but hopefully this money will allow them to live a comfortable life in his absence. R.I.P. Marshawn Lynch Re-Signs With Seattle Seahawks For 3 Years $31 Million Thumb through the check! Via ESPN Marshawn Lynch is returning to the Seattle Seahawks. The star running back signed a two-year extension Friday after meeting with Seahawks officials, including team owner Paul Allen. The extension keeps him under contract with Seattle through the 2017 season, but more importantly includes a massive raise for the 2015 season, when he will make $12 million, according to agent Doug Hendrickson. Lynch was scheduled to make $7 million for the 2015 season. Hendrickson said the deal includes an additional $24 million for the 2016 and 2017 seasons should Lynch, 28, continue his career into his 30s. The Seahawks announced the signing Friday night, and had some fun with their star running back, who has been fined heavily for not speaking with the media in the past. Ray Rice Awarded Millions By The Ravens For Wrongful Termination Ray Rice received $1.588 million from the Baltimore Ravens as part of the settlement in his wrongful-termination grievance hearing in January, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday, citing sources. Via ESPN reports: As a result of the settlement, the Ravens will carry an additional $177,000 against the 2015 salary cap. The NFL had placed a $1.411 million cap charge against the Ravens’ 2014 cap when Rice filed his grievance. So, the additional $177,000 will carry over into 2015. Rice was seeking $3.529 million, the amount he would have earned had he played the remaining 14 games of the regular season after being suspended for two games. He was suspended indefinitely Sept. 8 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy after a video of him hitting Janay, his then-fiancée, emerged and began widely circulating. The Ravens released Rice that day, and his contract was terminated. The incident occurred in February 2014 inside an elevator at an Atlantic City, New Jersey, casino. Rice was reinstated in December after a neutral arbitrator overturned his NFL suspension on appeal. Commissioner Roger Goodell had initially suspended Rice for two games before increasing the punishment to an indefinite ban after the video surfaced. Rice, who did not play last season, has repeatedly apologized for his actions. Rice, 28, is a three-time Pro Bowler and helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII. He rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns in six seasons with Baltimore. Do you think Ray Rice should have been awarded the settlement by the Ravens??

Oil Mogul Harold Hamm Ordered To Pay Ex Wife 995 Million Via NBC News reports: An Oklahoma County judge has ordered oil magnate and Continental Resources Chief Executive Officer Harold Hamm to pay nearly $1 billion in a divorce judgment, according to a court filing made public on Monday. Special Judge Howard Haralson found that Hamm should pay his ex-wife Sue Ann Hamm a total of $995.5 million, with about a third of the funds, or $322.7 million, to be paid by the end of the year, the filing says. Hamm, Oklahoma’s richest man, will then be required to pay the rest of the judgment, some $650 million, in installments worth at least $7 million per month, the filing says. Sue Ann Hamm has already been awarded around $25 million since the case was filed in 2012, the filing says. To secure the judgment, Judge Haralson has placed a lien on 20 million shares of Continental stock, the filing says. The ruling, which is subject to appeal, comes after a 9-1/2 week divorce trial ended last month. Expert witnesses for Sue Ann Hamm, a former attorney at Continental, had pressed the court to divide a fortune valued at about $17.6 billion in wealth that had accrued in Harold’s shares of the company since 1988, when she married Harold. Such a multibillion-dollar award could have forced Harold to liquidate a significant portion of his Continental shares, eroding his control of one of America’s fastest-growing energy companies. Continental is a leading driller in the Bakken oilfield of North Dakota and Montana. Harold’s side contended his wife deserves almost none of it. Next time he should listen to Kanye and holla prenup !!!

Clay Aiken Gets $90K In Child Support From Jaymes Foster Via RadarOnline reports: Clay Aiken is really hoping to win the Congressional seat in North Carolina this fall, and not just because he wants to serve his country. RadarOnline.com has learned that he could use the paycheck because the only other steady source of income the former American Idol contestant collects each month is the child support payment from his baby mama, Jaymes Foster, sister of mega record producer, David. Even though Jaymes has primary custody of her five-year-old-son with Aiken, Parker, “Clay is given a substantial amount of child support from her,” an insider revealed. “The basis for the child support payment — which is more than $7,500 a month — is that Jaymes is raising Parker in a very luxurious lifestyle, therefore, Clay needs to be able to maintain and provide that for his son also. So, mommy pays for that.” Now, “Jaymes is hoping that Clay wins his bid to become a Congressman so she could petition the Court to reduce his child support payments,” the source said. “Clay doesn’t have any other source of steady income besides his monthly child support from Jaymes.” Members of Congress are paid $174,000 annually and are given annual allowances to offset travel costs between their district, and Washington D.C. Though Aiken is homosexual, he and best friend James decided to have a son together back in 2008. Since then the two have been in and out of court in Los Angeles over custody issues involving their son. Aiken was runner-up to Ruben Studdard on American Idol in 2003, and recently won the Democratic primary for a North Carolina congressional seat. Foster had served as executive producer of Aiken’s last three albums for RCA, which didn’t create a lot of buzz. The source added, “Clay is very jealous of the success that Jaymes has accomplished in her career, and he wants to live the life of luxury, and not pay for it. There is absolutely no demand for Clay as a musician. He is always trying to get more money out of Jaymes. It’s just a sad situation.” Wow! Clay wouldn’t be the first politician with money issues and baby mama drama though…

This was the case for an extremely lucky waitress at the Mondrian Hotel last week who served Dre and company some shots by the pool. Via RadarOnline : Some stars (like Kourtney Kardashian!) may be infamous for stiffing wait staff— but other even bigger celebs are much more generous. Beats by Dre founder and iconic hip-hop rapper and producer Dr. Dre, 49, partied at the Skybar in West Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel on June 12, taking shots of tequila. As security escorted him out around 2 am, the big-hearted star dropped the waitress a $5,000 tip. “She was stunned!” says an insider, adding that the mogul was happy to take photos with fans and chat with the deejay, Sanni Val Fleury from Immigre. Earlier in the night, the newly-minted billionaire attended the Full Moon Bazaar in the hotel, picking up a pricey Mac & Lou bracelet for his wife, Nicole Threatt. Waiting tables isn’t sounding half bad right now. We bet she’s glad she showed up for her shift that night!

You jinglin’, baby New Jersey Official Admits He Stole $460,000 In Quarters From City Via HuffingtonPost The former public works inspector for a northern New Jersey town has admitted stealing $460,000 in quarters. The Record reports Thomas Rica pleaded guilty Wednesday to four counts of theft. In return, prosecutors will recommend that he receive five years’ probation and pay about $200,000 in restitution to Ridgewood. The 43-year-old Hawthorne resident lost his job with Ridgewood in January 2013, following his arrest for taking $500 in coins from its parking meter collection room. But investigators later determined that he stole $460,000 overall. Authorities said the thefts occurred over the course of 25 months. They say Rica was not authorized to be in the room but would enter it and fill his pockets with money. They say he deposited the money — more than 1.8 million quarters — in his bank account. Struggle Ballers: Vince Young Files For Bankruptcy After Blowing $30 Million NFL Fortune

My how the mighty have fallen … Vince Young Files For Bankruptcy Vince Young, the former University of Texas and NFL quarterback from Houston who has been involved in a pair of lawsuits stemming from financial issues that arose during the 2011 NFL lockout, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Via Houston Chronicle reports: Attorney Brian Kilmer of Houston filed the petition last week in a Houston federal bankruptcy court on Young’s behalf, listing Young with estimated assets between $500,001 and $1 million and liabilities between $1,001,000 and $10 million. No specific details on Young’s assets and liabilities were immediately available. Over the last year, Young, 30, has been locked in a pair of lawsuits stemming from a $1.8 million loan obtained in his name during the 2011 lockout. A New York state court has granted a judgment against Young to Pro Player Funding, a New York company that made the loan, which along with interest has grown to more than $2.5 million, according to a Pro Player attorney. Pro Player Funding has made several efforts in a Harris County state district court to enforce collection of the judgment, but those efforts remain pending. In the wake of the New York case, Young sued a group that included his former financial adviser, Ronnie Peoples of Raleigh, N.C., and his former agent, Major Adams II of Houston, claiming that the defendants defrauded him and conspired with Pro Player Funding to obtain the loan and that Young himself never received the money in question. Lawyers in December said a settlement had been reached in the Peoples case, but that agreement has not been finalized. Documents filed in the Peoples case include a financial statement as of July 2013 that listed Young and his wife, Candice, with assets totaling $1.8 million and liabilities totaling $2.5 million, including the New York state judgment. Young’s assets included five cars, his home, NFL annuity and 401(k) funds and jewelry valued at about $200,000. While the state case continued, a Harris County district judge granted a temporary restraining order that prohibited Young from wasting or dissipating assets and limited him to $25,000 in monthly household expenses, including child support. Vince might want to see if The Cheesecake Factory is hiring now that he’s officially broke!
