Robert Roberts to People: I Thought I Was Dying

Robert Roberts is on her way back to Good Morning America . She will resume part-time anchoring duties on February 20. But the reporter understands how lucky she is to be alive, let alone making a return to television this month, as she tells the latest issue of People of her September bone marrow transplant: There was a period where “I felt like I was dying.” “I couldn’t eat or drink,” Roberts says of the days following the complicated procedure. “I couldn’t even get out of bed… “I was in a coma-like state. I truly felt I was slipping away.” Fast forward five months, however, and Roberts tells the publication she feels “stronger each day.” It’s been an incredible, inspiring journey for Robin Roberts and you can read more about her struggles and her recovery in this week’s People, on newsstands Friday.

Manti Te’o Admits to Lie About Girlfriend, Maintains Innocence in Hoax

In a taped interview with Katie Couric, which will air tomorrow on that host’s talk show, Manti Te’o admits to at least one time when he lied about the existence of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. Asked by Couric whether he was in on the hoax, Te’o says no – but he did mislead reporters on two occasions after receiving a call on December 6 from someone claiming to be Kekua, who Te’o thought to have died two months earlier. Manti Te’o Interview Snippet “Put yourself in my situation,” Te’o says in a clip that aired today on Good Morning America . “My whole world told me that she died on Sept. 12. Everybody knew that.” Hence, Te’o says, why he referenced his girlfriend in two subsequent interviews, one online December 8 and again when talking to a newspaper on December 10. Appearing alongside his son, Te’o’s father, welled up and stood by the athlete. “People can speculate about what they think he is,” Brian Te’o’ said. “I’ve known him 21 years of his life. And he’s not a liar. He’s a kid.” Yesterday, Diane O’Meara came out and said it was her photo that was used in Kekua’s Twitter profile in order to fool Te’o. She also said she played no role in the scheme, but former high school classmate Ronaiah Tuiasosopo called to admit he has been behind it all.

Ann Curry to NBC: Let Me Leave!

Ann Curry has already been screwed over once by NBC. Now she’s determined for it not to happen again. With CNN reportedly wooing the anchor, sources tell Radar Online that Curry wants out of her NBC contract. Big time. “She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network,” the Curry insider claims . “However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract. If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years.” Because Curry was demoted from The Today Show, she believes NBC breached the terms of her deal and she ought to be released. The CNN gig is especially attractive to the reporter because former NBC boss Jeff Zucker is now in charge there. He wants her to lead a program at 8 p.m. every night. In other morning show news: Folks are screaming at Matt Lauer . Robin Roberts will not return to Good Morning America until mid-2013.

Did you know how much this group gave back ?? DoSomething.Org has named their picks of the year and Robin Roberts was one of the top to give! Dubbed “the worlds biggest power couple”, Jay-Z and Beyonce came in at number 11… Jay headlined a benefit performance at Carnegie Hall and supports underprivileged students through his Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Bey’s Survivor Foundation assists victims of disasters, along with AIDS patients and the homeless. Her $5 million housing project will create 43 permanent housing units in her hometown of Houston. LeBron brought it in at number 8… In 2012, King James made good on his promise to bring a championship to Miami. LBJ has come a long way, but he hasn’t forgotten his hometown of Akron, OH. Or the idea of a promise. His foundation’s Wheels for Education program provides support and school supplies to 300 underprivileged elementary schoolers. In return, they promise to stay in school until graduation. His PSA supports BoostUp.org, which gives at-risk teens encouragement and resources to stay in school. And Robin Roberts was sittin’ healthier at number 6… Our fav morning news anchor has used her battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (once called pre-leukemia) to shine a light on bone cancer. She teamed up with BeTheMatch.org to spread awareness about bone marrow donation. Roberts’ 30-second TV spot on “Good Morning America,” her radio PSA, along with several ads saw over 44,000 people join the registry. The top five included Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Channing Tatum, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus. Congrats to all of the people, on and off the list, who gave back as much as they could this year. Report: Matt Lauer WILL Be Fired If Today Show Continues to Suck

Matt Lauer Fired ! According to a new report, the odds of seeing that headline are increasing by the day. Sources tell Radar Online that new Today Show producer Alexandra Wallace has made it very clear: Lauer will be a goner if program ratings do not improve. “ The Today Show has always been considered a cash cow for the network,” says this insider. “It dominated the morning news ratings for years and brought in millions of dollars in ad revenue. “But if viewers continue preferring Good Morning America over The Today Show that revenue will decrease and cuts will have to be made.” And if this major move is made? “The replacement is likely to be Willie Geist,” adds the source. “He has been wildly popular with viewers and the crew since he was named co-host of the third hour of the show.” Last Wednesday, Today lost to GMA by 1.3 million viewers, the largest gap in 10 years. NBC News President Steve Capus has defended Lauer against blame for the ratings decline, making it interesting to see what happens if it really does continue. What do you think? Happy 70th Birthday, Joe Biden!

The Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, turns 70 years old today. Say it is so, Joe! The gaffe-prone Happy Warrior is the 47th man to hold the #2 spot in the federal government, and likely the first to fake tan or use hair plugs. Just kidding Joe! Before being elected (and recently reelected ) alongside President Barack Obama, he represented his home state of Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973-2009. During his career, Biden amassed a reputation for loquaciousness, with his questions and remarks during Senate hearings being known for their long-windedness. Not widely considered an academic or a theoretical thinker, he is regarded as a terrific retail politician, often regaling audiences with tales of his working class roots. Biden’s unabashed defense of his views and unpredictable nature have made him the target of many parodies, and deservedly so. At times he is like a caricature. Love him or hate him, he’s authentic, and has been consistent throughout. What you see is what you get … gaffes, f-bombs, Cheshire Cat smiles and all. Joe has been married to Dr. Jill Biden since 1977; they have one daughter, Ashley Biden. His first wife Neilia was killed in an automobile accident in 1972 along with their infant daughter. Their two sons, Beau and Hunter, made full recoveries. Happy birthday to the father, grandfather and Veep who needs no further introduction!

Michael Lohan is adamant that he didn’t cheat on Dina Lohan when he knocked up Kristi Horn during their marriage 17 years ago, because they were on a break. MiLo’s secret love child Ashley Horn was revealed on TV last week. Michael Lohan, Love Child He long denied that he was the father, only to be put in his paternal place by a DNA test while the cameras rolled. It was unexpected and awkward, to put it mildly. Now he’s doing damage control amid backlash. The father of Michael Jr., Cody, Ali and Lindsay Lohan – plus another baby soon with pregnant Kate Major – says Ashley wasn’t the result of “cheating” or “an affair.” ” Dina and I were separated and living separately at the time for 8 months,” he tells TMZ. Michael also says he saw Lindsay Lohan on Good Morning America and is calling BS on her claim that she was in the dark about the love child this whole time. “Dina has been telling our children that Ashley is my daughter for years, without even knowing the results,” he says. “So how could this be news to our children?” We can’t believe we’re saying this, but … Michael Lohan is right.

Taylor Swift Teases "State of Grace" on GMA

Barack Obama took such a walloping from Mitt Romney at last week’s presidential debate that supporters say he needs to come back with a vengeance. With a George Costanza-esque “jerk store” zinger, if you will. Presidential Debate 2012 Obama-Romney (#1) In a classic Seinfeld episode, “The Comeback,” George is humiliated at work, only to think up the best retort days later and begin plotting its use against his adversary. More than one analyst has likened President Obama’s debate performance – and his behavior afterward – to Costanza. Not a guy you want to be compared to. During the debate, Obama had plenty of chances to hammer his Republican challenger, yet pretty much took a pass, saving his comebacks for the aftermath. Obama has released several statements in recent days calling Romney out on his supposed falsehoods from the Demolition in Denver. Too little, too late. Fortunately for the President, he has two debates left, recreating the setting to stage “The Comeback” Constanza once dreamed of.
