Some supporters claim he was ambushed Tuesday on Good Morning America, but the questions by Robin Roberts that preceded Chris Brown’s meltdown were approved by the singer before the interview, according to reports. Brown FLIPPED afterward, allegedly smashing a dressing room window. Roberts insists GMA asked in advance of she could pose “a few questions” about Rihanna, and Chris approved. She adds, “I’m pulling for the guy.”
New video debuts same day Brown made headlines for ‘Good Morning America’ outburst. By James Montgomery Chris Brown in “Beautiful People” Photo: Jive Chris Brown’s new album is called F.A.M.E., an acronym for “Forgiving All My Enemies.” Of course, as his actions on Tuesday’s (March 22) “Good Morning America” proved, if his post-show outburst was even half as extreme as reports have made it out to be, he might not have taken that title to heart just yet. The timing of his behavior following “GMA” was problematic, to say the least: Not only did it occur on the day F.A.M.E. hit stores, but it also happened hours before he was set to premiere the video for his latest single, “Beautiful People,” during MTV’s “The Seven.” Somewhat understandably, given the backlash that followed his alleged window-smashing at ABC’s studios, Brown canceled his appearance on MTV’s show, but the “People” video premiered nonetheless. Much like everything involving Brown since his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna , how you feel about him will probably affect how you feel about his new clip. Some may see its scenes of Brown hamming it up in the studio with the likes of Pharrell and Timbaland as nothing short of garish, while others could view them as glimpses into a man who has made his penance and now is trying very hard to move on with his life. His detractors can never forgive him for his past indiscretions, and his supporters — having already forgiven him — want nothing more than to see him smile occasionally. And both sides are right. So while the “Beautiful People” video is sure to be divisive, the song most certainly is not. Because it’s totally great: a throbbing, nocturnal knocker of a track that’s dipped in equal parts swagger and studio lacquer. Producer Benny Benassi leaves his clubby touches all over the song, infusing it with house thump and a touch of Italo-boogie. Brown’s vocals are almost an afterthought; smoothed out in the studio and downright supple, his voice is almost like the lightweight chassis atop a very expensive, very fast foreign sports car. It speeds along and handles beautifully. It’s not a stretch to call “Beautiful People” not only one of the year’s most unexpected singles, but also one of the best. Of course, some folks might not even listen to it or watch the video. That’s a shame, but in some regards, I can’t blame them. Then again, sometimes it’s best to leave the judgment up to the court of public opinion and focus instead on the product at hand. Love him or hate him, with “Beautiful People,” Chris Brown has proven that he’s not going anywhere for a while, whether you like it or not. What do you think of Brown’s new video? ‘We ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy,’ a rep for ABC tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Chris Brown on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America” Photo: ABC Shortly after news broke that Chris Brown had stormed out of ABC News’ Times Square studios following an appearance on “Good Morning America,” a rep for ABC released a statement to MTV News defending their interview, during which host Robin Roberts asked Brown about his 2009 assault of Rihanna and its consequences. “As always, we ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy,” the rep said in the statement. “And that’s what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown.” With varying reports surfacing after the incident, Roberts took to her Twitter account to react to Brown’s outburst, writing, “Sure has been an interesting AM @GMA. Still sorting thru everything myself. Just my 2nd day on twitter, wonder what tomorrow will bring?” Sources tell E! News that the star “went ballistic” shortly after the interview wrapped. He started cursing and throwing furniture, making show staffers “feel scared.” “He went ballistic, absolutely ballistic,” the source explained. “After Robin got a lot of criticism for [not pressing] Tiger [Woods], she pressed him. She was concerned after she was slammed for that. Chris thought he’d be asked one question, not pressed on it. They say, ‘We’ll ask you one Rihanna question,’ but she kept asking follow-ups. He got off and went crazy. “He smashed a chair into a window and that glass is so thick, people heard shattering and security was called,” the source added. “It was to the point where people were scared. The question is now how ABC will report it.” Sources tell People a similar story, with an eyewitness adding, “He was visibly upset and appeared livid after the interview.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Chris Brown Related Photos Rihanna And Chris Brown: A Photo Timeline Related Artists Chris Brown

Rob Margolies worked with embattled actor on indie comedy ‘She Wants Me,’ in which Sheen plays an outsize version of himself. By Eric Ditzian Charlie Sheen Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Last October, after being handed the script for “She Wants Me” by a friend and producer on the indie comedy, Charlie Sheen signed on to play a small role — an outsize version of himself also named Charlie Sheen. He shot his scenes over the course of a few days, and according to writer/director Rob Margolies, was “on time every day and really reliable and always in a good mood.” But speaking to MTV News on Wednesday from Los Angeles, where he’s in post-production on the movie, the filmmaker said that the Sheen he’s seen in countless recent TV interviews — talking about melting faces and armless children on “Good Morning America,” for example — bears little resemblance to the man who was nothing but professional on set. “Charlie wasn’t like that at all,” Margolies said. “He was completely in control and not on the defensive. No one ever felt uncomfortable. My personal opinion of him has not changed. I hope he gets the help he needs. I believe in him and wish him the best.” Back in the fall — shortly before Sheen’s life took a turn for the worse following a drug-and-porn-star-filled incident at the Plaza Hotel in New York — the actor was having so much fun on the set of “She Wants Me” that he asked Margolies to write another scene in which he could appear. But Margolies declined, telling MTV News additional screen time would have felt artificial and detracted from the original appearance. The film focuses on a couple — he an aspiring filmmaker, she a struggling actress — who move to Los Angeles. A friend of theirs, also an actress trying to make it big, lands a starring role in a Charlie Sheen film and claims she’s even dating him. The couple thinks she’s nuts, until the “Two and a Half Men” star actually shows up one day. His three scenes last about five minutes, according to Margolies. Though the extra scene Sheen requested never came to pass, the actor nonetheless agreed to help finance the production and was rewarded with an executive-producer credit. “He came onboard and gave us a last-minute sum of money to finish the movie in post,” said Margolies, adding that the overall budget was “well under half a million dollars.” They wrapped principal photography last year, shot some pickups in January and hope to put the finishing touches on the film by May with an eye toward selling the flick to a studio. Margolies himself hasn’t been in touch with Sheen in recent weeks, but one of his producing partners has reached out to the embattled star. “They’re close friends, and he’s concerned for him,” he said. While Margolies didn’t offer a hypothesis for what might be ailing Sheen at the moment, he did say he understands why he appears to be so erratic in recent interviews. “He seemed like he was on the defensive in the interviews,” the filmmaker said. “I think he’s just caught off-guard and scared. It’s a result of him feeling like he’s being judged. Most people who are being judged act up. It’s a defense mechanism. I don’t think that’s in direct relation to who he is at all.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Tween star’s second single premieres on ‘On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.’ By Alex Chapman Willow Smith Photo: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/ Getty Images After temporarily taking over the globe (and probably inducing some permanent neck problems) with her chart-smashing “Whip My Hair,” pint-size prodigy Willow Smith is back in action with her new electro-pop banger “21st Century Girl.” The 10-year-old superstar premiered the track on Monday morning (February 28) on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, where it was announced that the song will be available exclusively on iTunes starting Tuesday. The song is as current as they come — she sounds like a fusion of Ke$ha and Rihanna. Willow celebrates being a girl of the moment, all the while backed by a hyper-dancey beat. “The rules don’t own me/ I’m living life on the edge,” the singer coos. Smith will also be performing the track, produced by Twin and Alke, on Tuesday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” All this news comes on the heels of Smith’s newly announced addition to 13 U.K. dates on Justin Bieber’s journey across the pond with his super-successful My World Tour. The young talent may be relatively new to the music scene (and the world in general), but her work ethic is inarguably beyond her years. “It felt like all the hard work paid off, mostly that,” Willow told MTV News last October about the success of her first single. “Like all the hard work that I’ve done, like recording ‘Whip My Hair’ — it’s paid off.” Willow has also recently hinted at an upcoming album, tweeting , “Are you excited for my album!? It’s coming soon….. VERY soon!!” Although there’s no official release date for the LP, a video for Smith’s new single is said to be coming out shortly. What do you think of Willow Smith’s new song? She’s released single, a video and teasers of Femme Fatale, but Spears herself is has been holding off on public appearances. By Sterling Wong Britney Spears Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images On Friday, Britney Spears took another teasingly small step in promoting her upcoming Femme Fatale album , releasing a video in which she announced that she’ll perform on “Good Morning America” on March 29, the day the LP drops. The short video clip temporarily calmed the increasingly anxious Britney fans, who had been wondering, “Where is Britney?” It’s been six weeks since first single “Hold It Against Me” was released. Since then, Britney has hosted a Q&A session with fans on Twitter and premiered the song’s video on MTV, but she’s been largely missing from the public eye. We know the pop princess is still busy putting the finishing touches to her album — she tweeted a picture of her and producer will.i.am at the recording studio recently — but it does strike us as strange that a mere month away from the album release, Britney has not done a single promotional interview or live performance. In the months before releasing her last album, Circus, Brit had appeared at the VMAs and onstage at Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour , performed on the British “X Factor” and shows in France and Germany, and aired the revealing documentary “Britney: For the Record” on MTV. So, why the relative silence this time around? Is Britney being shy, or maintaining an air of mystery until closer to the big reveal of her album? “I think that maybe there’s a lack of confidence that she can do it well at this point,” PR expert Howard Bragman theorized to MTV News. “But nonetheless, the girl’s coming back, and her music’s doing well. Coming back is a hard thing to do, and when you’ve been in the spotlight as long as Britney Spears has been, it’s hard to maintain that. The fact that she’s still relevant musically is quite a feat.” Spears’ inactivity stands in especially sharp contrast to Lady Gaga. Since Gaga released “Born This Way” last month, we’ve seen her at the Grammys and on “60 Minutes,” Jay Leno, “Good Morning America,” and a healthy handful of radio shows. But Bragman cautioned against comparing Brit and Gaga. “Public relations, when done well, is not one size fits all,” Bragman explained. “You’ve got to know who you’re working with and what their DNA in the public eye is, and everybody has a different DNA in the public eye.” Perhaps Britney, now into the 13th year of her career, has decided that she doesn’t have to go crazy working the promotional circuit, especially since she is a mother of two young boys. Unlike Lady Gaga and other relatively new pop stars like Katy Perry or Ke$ha, Spears has been there, done that and is no longer so hungry for success. She did her time on the nonstop promo circuit back in her … Baby One More Time and In the Zone days, and maybe she’s content to let the music speak for itself now. Or perhaps the worrying fans have jumped the gun, and her team is about to surprise us all with a slew of appearances and performances. All we know for sure is that, promotion or no promotion, Britney is still very capable of keeping us intrigued.
