Hailee Steinfeld, James Franco, Nicole Kidman Grateful For Oscar Nominations

‘It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock,’ ‘True Grit’ teen star tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Hailee Steinfeld Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images As more and more of Hollywood woke up to the news of the Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning (January 25), the nominees themselves opened up about the recognition they’d received from the Academy. “What an extraordinary journey this film has taken me on! ‘Rabbit Hole’ has been a labor of love and I’m so thankful to John Cameron Mitchell, David Lindsay-Abaire and the brilliant cast,” Nicole Kidman said in a statement to MTV News about her Best Actress nod. “This nomination reflects all of the heart and soul that these people have put into it, and I can’t thank them enough.” Oscar host, James Franco, finds himself a nominee at the show as well. He’s up for Actor in a Leading Role for his role in “127 Hours.” “I’m about to go to class,” Franco said on the “Today” show. “I’ve got my normal pre-class makeup on, and there are some lights here. It’s great.” Hailee Steinfeld also spoke to the “Today Show” about her nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “True Grit.” “I was asleep and I heard my mom and dad screaming in the other room. They came in my room with flowers,” she said. “It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock. The film overall is incredible. To be a part of it all was amazing. I’m so proud of it all.” “True Grit” directors/producers/writers Joel and Ethan Coen are up for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), but they didn’t want to seem greedy about it. “Ten [nominations] seems like an awful lot,” they told AwardsDaily.com. “We don’t want to take anyone else’s.” “The Fighter” star Melissa Leo was the first to speak to “Good Morning America” after her Supporting Actress nomination was announced. “What a thrill to share it with all of America right now,” she said. “Love to my family. Love to Alice Ward [the real-life woman I play in the film]. Thank you guys so much! Alice, we’re going to the Oscars!” Leo also commented on Mark Wahlberg not receiving a nomination for his part in the film. “Right now, Mark Wahlbergh, the most generous man I’ve ever met, is receiving all sorts of nominations. Every nomination is a nomination for Mark Wahlberg. There would be nothing without him,” she added. “It was just incredible. The proof is in the pudding.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . On Tuesday when the Oscar nominations were announced, the David Fincher-directed, Aaron Sorkin-penned movie received eight Oscar nominations. “It’s a great way to start the morning,” Sorkin told “Good Morning America” moments after he learned of his own nomination for Adapted Screenplay. “I love ‘The King’s Speech.’ It was a great year for movies. It was the year for the screenplay too. I’m so happy for everyone involved. Sammi Giancola and Ronnie Magro: It’s Over!

Brace yourselves for stunning news. Jersey Shore stars Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola and Ronnie “Meathead” Magro are over. You got that? They are DONE! “It is over,” a source close to the couple says, noting that there was “major tension” throughout the show’s third season … who would have guessed. Another insider noted that the toxic tandem was “barely speaking to each other” by the end, and things were icy recently on Good Morning America . THE HORROR FROM HAZLET: Sammi’s smiling, bit likely cackling inside . The couple’s romance blossomed in season one, and survived many bumps in the road … some of which comprised Ron bumping and grinding on other girls. “I’m embarrassed about what I did,” Ronnie Magro said of his antics in Miami, which were admittedly bad, although dating Sammi would drive anyone insane. As the Jersey Shore Season 3 premiere made clearer than ever, her nickname is a total misnomer, as she is probably THE biggest b!tch in reality TV history. So who’s to blame for the recent split? Eh, who the hell cares. All we know is that he’s already Tweeting about “Single Ronnie.” Let the Ron-Ron Juice flow.

Nicki Minaj Sex Tape: In Existence?

I made a conscious decision to try to tone down the sexiness, I want people, especially young girls, to know that in life, nothing is going to be based on sex appeal. You’ve got to have something else to go with that. Might these words prove ironic for Nicki Minaj? The rapper is the latest celebrity at the center of a sex tape scandal, as The Boom Box claims the video was filmed prior to Minaj hitting it big and that it’s being hawked for $100,000. No words yet out of the rapper’s camp. Earlier this week, word spread of a Demi Lovato sex tape, but that was quickly shot down by the singer’s rep. We’ll keep you apprised of any reaction, or videotaped pounding, from Nicki.

Sarah Palin Shoots Back at Aaron Sorkin, PETA

In a rare interview with lamestream media outlet ABC, Sarah Palin sat down with Good Morning America ‘s Robin Roberts Friday to talk about taxes, government gettin’ outta the way, Barack Obama flip floppin’ and all sortsa other stuff. She also took a shot (not literally) at Aaron Sorkin . CARIBOU KILLER : Palin makes no apologies . Animal rights activist group PETA called Palin out after she shot a caribou on her TLC show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, but she says at least that could be sincere. Sorkin calling her a witless bully, comparing her to Michael Vick and saying she killed the animal for political gain, on the other hand, has her all fired up. Sarah Palin responded to Sorkin’s statement, telling Roberts that “We eat, therefore we hunt – and I am thankful that I get to feed my kids organic food.” “He’s got some of those high powered rifles in some of his movies and TV shows though. I think those are aimed at human beings. Mine is aimed at dinner.” Of her critics, she says, “If they don’t wear leather shoes and a belt and drive a car with leather seats and they eat no meat, then they have somethin’ to say.” “And I can listen to them when they say, ‘How dare you kill an animal to feed a family?’ because they don’t participate in that. At least they’re sincere about it.” “I’d say 99% of the critics, you know, they’re wearin’ leather belts and they’re eatin’ their hamburgers – and they’re gonna tell me it’s immoral or not the right thing to do to go out and actually harvest that resource, that piece of protein myself?” There you have it, folks. Aaron Sorkin? Owned. Is it right? Team Sarah or Team PETA?

ABC Poll Finds Health Care Law Is Massively Unpopular, Network Offers Scant Coverage

A December 13 ABC News/Washington Post poll found Barack Obama's health law at a new low in popularity, but Monday's World News and Tuesday's Good Morning America offered only meager coverage of the development.
