Lady Gaga Recalls Her Musical Theater Roots In MTV Special

In exclusive trailer from ‘Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside,’ airing tonight at 10:58 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, pop star talks ‘Guys and Dolls.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: MTV News Lady Gaga ‘s flair for wigs and over-the-top stage spectacles began way back in the day when the pop superstar was in high school. In the new hour-long documentary “Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside,” set to air Thursday, May 26, at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, Gaga opens up about her transformation from brunette to blonde and how one little wig began her rise to pop superstardom. “I was so inspired by musical theater like ‘Guys and Dolls’,” she says in an exclusive interview during the “Inside the Outside” special. “But I would never get cast in those roles because I was a brunette.” Gaga then made a big fashion decision, one that still resonates with her to this day. “So eventually I bought a wig,” she continues. “Then I got cast as Adelaide. It was the greatest moment of high school. I tell you, I still dream about it.” In the intimate chat, Mother Monster opens up about her rise to fame — from being bullied by classmates during her school days to the moment she decided to pursue her dreams of pop stardom. She speaks in depth about the moments that shaped her as an artist, including working on her highly anticipated album, Born This Way , which will be released on Tuesday. “Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside” also focuses on Gaga at home, spotlighting her close relationship with her family and growing up in Manhattan before she made the life-changing decision to move out on her own to New York City’s Lower East Side. Fans will get to know the girl who became Lady Gaga intimately. Catch an exclusive teaser trailer for “Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside” on Thursday, May 19, at 10:58 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, after a new episode of “Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew.” Related Videos Preview ‘Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside’ Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Approves ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Parody Of ‘Born This Way’

Comedian claims Gaga’s people initially denied him the right to release his parody ‘Perform This Way.’ By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images The great “Weird Al” Yankovic-Lady Gaga standoff of 2011 appears to be over. After the song parody king wrote a lengthy blog on Wednesday complaining that Gaga’s people had denied his request to release his stinging “Perform This Way” cover of Gaga’s “Born This Way,” he updated the situation later in the day and said it was a big misunderstanding. “After putting my Lady Gaga parody on YouTube this morning — and announcing that it wouldn’t be on my next album because Gaga didn’t approve it — there was a huge outpouring of disappointment from the Internet,” Yankovic wrote . “Apparently the fact that she didn’t approve it was news to Lady Gaga herself! Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga — she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.” Though a spokesperson for Gaga had not returned requests for comment at press time, Yankovic said the singer’s manager has apologized to him for the mix-up and noted that apparently Mother Monster “loves the song.” Yankovic’s songs are legally protected by fair-use laws, but he has made a point of getting approval from the artists he is parodying before releasing his songs, including Michael Jackson, R.E.M., AC/DC, Madonna and Chamillionaire, who sang the praises of Al’s “White & Nerdy” take on “Ridin’.” Citing an unnamed source “extremely close” to the singer, TMZ reported that “there must have been a misunderstanding because [Gaga] is in no way trying to block the release of the parody.” Other unnamed sources added, “she’s busy touring and hasn’t heard the song yet. Her manager hasn’t had a chance to play it for her yet … she’s a huge Weird Al fan.” Yankovic, 51, said he’s thrilled the situation has been resolved because he not only respects and admires Gaga as an artist (who clearly has a “great” sense of humor), but it also means he gets to put out his new album. Proceeds from the video will go to the Human Rights Campaign. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Reveals Surreal Born This Way Cover

Gaga is pictured as a half-woman, half-motorcycle hybrid in the image, which she posted on Twitter on Saturday. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The slow reveal of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way continued over the weekend as Mother Monster pulled back the veil on the cover of her hotly anticipated album, which will be released on May 23. Although now, perhaps we should start calling her Motorcycle Mama, since the Nick Knight-conceived artwork for the LP that Gaga tweeted on Saturday shows the pop star transformed into a half-woman, half-motorcycle hybrid made of shining chrome and perfectly tousled blond hair. Under gleaming, metallic-silver bubble letters spelling out the album title, Gaga’s head serves as the handlebar accoutrement to a badass chopper, with her arms forming the front fork of the street machine. The entire image is in black and white except for the pop star’s lips, which are colored a deep red. The cover reveal came shortly after the leak of Born This Way ‘s second single, “Judas.” Though the tune isn’t slated to drop until Tuesday, Capital FM in London played the RedOne-produced song on Friday afternoon. The track finds Gaga in familiar territory, singing about a lover she knows might not be right for her, but whom she just can’t resist. “Ohhh, I’m in love with Judas,” she croons at the opening of the track, accompanied by building synths. Soon a thumping electronic beat kicks in as Gaga wails, “Judas/ Juda-a-ah/ Judas/ Gaga!” in a battle cry reminiscent of the one in her previous smash, “Bad Romance.” And that’s not all the Born This Way news. A Gaga fan site has reported that legendary Queen guitarist Brian May will be featured on the ballad “You and I,” which Gaga has been performing live on tour for several months. Lady Gaga’s Leaked ‘Judas’ Lyrics Aren’t Quite Real

While some of the lines are legit, others are fabricated, MTV News has learned. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Tom Briglia/ WireImage It looks like someone is trying to fool Little Monsters everywhere by posting incorrect lyrics online for Lady Gaga’s “Judas.” Various versions of lyrics reportedly from the track hit the Internet, and it appears that someone used Gaga’s recent Google interview as inspiration. So far, the only real lyrics from the song are: “When he comes to me, I am ready/ I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs/ Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain/ Even after three times, he betrays me/ I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.” Gaga previously shared an additional line from the song on Twitter, writing, “I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel, but I’m still in love with Judas, baby.” From there, someone took all those real lyrics and crafted their own version of the song, which was co-produced by RedOne and the Mother Monster herself. For now, until “Judas” officially drops, fans at least have Gaga’s confessions about the track. “You have to look into what is haunting you and you need to look into forgiving yourself in order to move on,” she said about the song, which will be the second single from Born This Way. . “And it’s really fun to dance to and sounds like it could be a pop Priest record.” Gaga and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, will co-direct the video, and Gibson seemed excited about the clip when she spoke to MTV News. ” ‘Judas’ is exciting for me because we had this amazing artistic approach to ‘Born This Way,’ and I’m so excited for how riveting, energetic and electric the record is, something really phenomenal,” Gibson said. “So, visually, the dance, the costuming, the idea of how big we’re trying to go, [it’s] going to be a roller-coaster ride.” Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”? Lady Gaga ‘Loves’ ‘Born This Way’ Video, Laurieann Gibson Says

‘She’s very proud of it,’ Gaga’s creative director reveals to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Fans have weighed in on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video, but how does Mother Monster herself feel about her latest entry into the world of music videos? The video’s creative director and Gaga’s choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, stopped by MTV News on Monday, the same day the Nick Knight-directed clip dropped, and she opened up about Gaga’s reaction to seeing the trippy “Born This Way” . “She loves it! She loves it so much and she’s so happy,” Gibson told us. “She loves it. She watches it all the time. Every time I walk in the dressing room [she says], ‘Ah! Look!’ She’s very proud of it.” Gibson shares that excitement and she said she’s pleased that Gaga and her team are spreading their message of love and acceptance. “I’m happy for her because she’s so fearless,” Gibson explained. “And she works so hard and, for me, those types of artists don’t come around that often.” Those sentiments were mirrored by one of Gaga’s producers, Fernando Garibay , who worked on many of the songs on the upcoming Born This Way. Garibay told us he thinks the video reflects the song’s feel-good message. “Well, I’ve seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,” he said. “It’s amazing. Her talent, I mean, she’s so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it’s expressed with the song is truly amazing. … I’m still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, ‘Wow.’ ” What do you think of “Born This Way”? Let us know in the comments!
