Golden Globe Nominations Led By ‘The Artist’

Silent black-and-white film earns six nods, while ‘The Descendants’ and ‘The Help’ rack up five each. Jean Dujardin in “The Artist” Photo: Weinstein Company The stars woke up early Thursday (December 15), hoping to hear their names when the nominations for the 69th annual Golden Globes were announced. Without many front-runners in the major categories, the Globe nominations gave one of the first serious indications of how the Academy Awards will play out in February. “The Artist,” with six nominations, and “The Descendants” and “The Help,” with five each, cemented their place at the top of the Best Picture race. “The Artist,” the silent, black-and-white tribute to old Hollywood, wowed audiences during the festival circuit and earned the most nods. In addition to its nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, both Jean Dujardin and B

Eddie Murphy Steps Down As Oscar Host

Announcement follows Brett Ranter’s exit as Academy Awards producer. By Kara Warner Eddie Murphy Photo: Getty Images Just one day after Brett Ratner announced his exit as producer , the 2012 Academy Awards have lost another key participant: host Eddie Murphy . According to a statement from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak, Murphy didn’t want to continue with the gig after the loss of Ratner. “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well,” Sherak said. The “Tower Heist” star didn’t specifically address his reasons for resigning, but said he is sorry things didn’t work out for everyone involved. “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony,” Murphy said in the statement. “I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.” Ratner submitted his resignation to the Academy on Tuesday after making headlines with his recent comments about a sexual relationship with actress Olivia Munn and, at a screening of “Heist,” using a gay slur, claiming, “Rehearsal is for f–s.” “Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances,” he wrote in a letter to the entertainment industry. “To them, and to everyone I’ve hurt and offended, I’d like to apologize publicly and unreservedly.” No word yet on who is in talks to replace Ratner or Murphy. The 84th annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live on February 26. Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: Tower Heist

So Much For #RatnerFreeOscars! AMPAS Stands by Producer: ‘It Will Not Happen Again’

I’m still waiting for anyone from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to bother replying to my request for comment about yesterday’s Brett Ratner “rehearsing is for fags” imbroglio , but AMPAS president Tom Sherak has officially weighed in on the controversy: “He knew it was wrong and he issued that response as quickly as any human being ever has. The bottom line is, this won’t and can’t happen again. It will not happen again.” So much for the #RatnerFreeOscars ; it was nice to imagine while it lasted.

Transformers Producers Want to Make a Live-Action Captain Planet Movie

Captain Planet and the Planeteers , among the cheesiest children’s properties that the ’90s birthed, was a cartoon very earnestly devoted to encouraging environmental awareness among youngsters built around the multi-colored titular superhero. Now, thanks to the folks who brought us Transformers , that mulleted, blue-skinned emblem of early-’90s morning TV will be updated with a live-action film. Has retro rebirthing gone too far?

Emma Watson Allegedly Meets Her Gay XXX Alterego

And now, some Harry Potter news that will refresh even the weariest of Muggles — and probably outrage conservatives even more : Emma Watson met the oiled-up mensch who plays “Himmione Grainghim” in the gay pornographic motion picture Whorrey Potter and the Sorcerer’s Balls . When she found out who he was, it reportedly “made her night.” If true, I dance at her nerve. Go, you vagabond child star, go! Plus, the picture is soulfully edifying.

Harry Potter Premiere Face-Off: Daniel Radcliffe vs. Rupert Grint

They team up to take down the Dark Lord on screen, but Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint are enemy combatants when the cameras stop rolling. Or at least when they pose on the red carpet of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows premiere in London and are pitted against each other in a THG Fashion Face-Off. Vote on the most handsome stud below and then go do the same in a match-up between Emma Watson and Evanna Lynch …

Bristol Palin Grilled By Barbara Walters on Levi Johnston Boning, "Moral Code"

Bristol Palin is making the media rounds to promote her new book, Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far . Yes, Bristol Palin seriously has a memoir. Today on The View, she was greeted by Barbara Walters and some surprisingly tough questions about Levi Johnston, her sex life and her morals. It was kind of awkward for Bristol and viewers alike. Bristol Palin on The View In response to Palin’s claim that Levi stole her virginity when he pitched a tent – in more ways than one!! – that night in Alaska, Walters asked: “It must have been okay, because you kept on having sex with him, yeah?” Cringe . Bristol Palin smiled and responded “We did it that one night and I just figured it’s okay to do it again because I’d already broken my moral code.” Using that logic, Casey Anthony might as well have another baby and kill her too, because a moral code is a one-shot deal. Sorry, moving on . Bristol also said she was on birth control at the time she got pregnant, but it wasn’t used effectively. By effectively, she probably means at all. Okay, now that images of a nude Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin fornicating have been burned into your brain, let’s talk about something else.
