Johnny Depp Honored With MTV Generation Award At Movie Awards

Before accepting the award, Depp joined the Black Keys onstage to perform ‘Gold on the Ceiling.’ By Terri Schwartz Johnny Depp Photo: Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Talk about a grand entrance. Aerosmith rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry walked onto the MTV Movie Awards stage to congratulate a “truly revolutionary artist,” an actor who has become a rock star in his own right. Johnny Depp was the recipient of the MTV Generation Award , joining the prestigious ranks of Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood and Godzilla. Depp joined the Black Keys on stage to perform a rousing rendition of “Gold on the Ceiling” before going on to accept his award. “I’ve got to thank MTV for this. This is quite an amazing honor, truly. It’s like the Get-Out-Of-The-Business Award, ‘All right, you’ve done too much.’ Clearly, based on the clips, there’s nothing wrong with me,” Depp said when he received his Golden Popcorn. “I just thank you very much. And it’s an honor to be presented by these two legends, Steve and Joe, and these up and coming legends, [The Black Keys], so thank you very much.” This has been a big year for Depp. “21 Jump Street” was nominated for six MTV Movie Awards, including one for Depp himself. In addition, he reunited on the big screen with Tim Burton to create their passion project, “Dark Shadows.” But the Generation Award is less about Depp’s last year and more about his legacy. From when we first saw him die brutally in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” to when he won us over as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” we’ve known he was a star worthy of our attention. Next year will be big for the three-time Golden Popcorn winner as well. We’re excited to see him transform onscreen yet again, but this time as sidekick Tonto in Gore Verbinski’s take on “The Lone Ranger.” And there’s always the planned fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie and inevitable reunion with Burton to look forward to in the future. Harry Potter Is Best Hero At MTV Movie Awards

Boy wizard was in a heated battle with ‘Hunger Games’ heroine Katniss Everdeen in MTV’s first social-voting category. By Terri Schwartz Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Photo: Warner Bros. He was a real human being and a real hero. Harry Potter came, he saw and he conquered tonight at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards . The Boy Who Lived now enters the prestigious Best Hero ranks that, at this point, only include Christian Bale’s Batman from “Batman Begins.” Harry Potter came out on top after a heated battle against Katniss Everdeen that totally eclipsed the category’s other three contenders: Thor, Captain America and “21 Jump Street” cop Jenko. At least “Harry Potter” toppled two Avengers at the Movie Awards, since the Marvel superhero collective just beat out “Potter” to be the third-highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide. We get the distinct pleasure of knowing that fans think Harry Potter is a better hero than an all-American supersoldier and a Norse god. Though Best Hero was a Movie Awards category back in 2006 when Bale won, this is the first year it was chosen by fans on Twitter. The first-ever social voting category had Twitter users support their favorite hero by sending tweets instead of casting their votes on the . That’s two Golden Popcorns won, four lost and one to go for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” which was nominated a grand total of seven times at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. “Potter” is up against “The Hunger Games,” “Bridesmaids,” “The Help” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” for Movie of the Year, and it’s anyone’s guess as to which film will take that one home. We know that seven is a meaningful number in the “Harry Potter” universe, with seven Horcruxes, seven years at Hogwarts and seven books. Heck, Harry Potter was even born in July! That bodes well for the movie’s Movie Awards chances this year. This is the fourth Golden Popcorn the “Harry Potter” series has ever won. Tom Felton has had the honor of winning Best Villain the past two years, and both were fairly memorable experiences. First Mark Wahlberg interrupted his acceptance speech , and then Dave Grohl busted in on his post-win interview . Emma Watson accepted the award for Best Cast only minutes before the series’ titular character won Best Hero. The 2012 MTV Movie Awards are officially under way! Shailene Woodley’s Movie Awards Win Causes ‘A Waterfall Of Sweat’

‘I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces,’ she tells MTV News. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shailene Woodley at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was Shailene Woodley ‘s first time at the MTV Movie Awards , and also her . “The Descendants” star took home the Best Breakthrough Performance Golden Popcorn and commanded the stage during her acceptance speech. But it turns out she was actually much more nervous than she let on. “I started sweating a whole lot. Like, a waterfall of sweat,” she reminisced when MTV News caught up with her immediately after her win. “I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces. Thank God they were up there. I would have been so nervous.” Sure, Woodley was nominated for a number of prestigious awards thanks to her fantastic performance in “The Descendants,” including a Golden Globe nom. But being invited to — and winning at — the MTV Movie Awards is still a big accomplishment in her life. “It’s the MTV Awards!” she gushed. “Let’s be real. This is crazy.” It turns out that this was an especially great experience for Woodley because she is a huge Russell Brand fan. She called his “awesome” and then dove into her passion for his particular brand of comedy. “He’s one of my favorite comedians. I think he’s just so effing funny, and I’m all about him and everything that he’s saying. He’s like a political, or like an anti-political activist, you know? And I really love his revolutionary thinking. I’m into it,” she said. “[He has] a really profound message, and without being preachy.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. ‘Hunger Games’ Stars Try To Cast Finnick Odair

MTV Movie Award winners Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Alexander Ludwig say whoever is cast has to have ‘a lot of charisma.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Josh Hutcherson arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Robert Pattinson won’t be playing him. Neither will Taylor Kitsch . But there are still plenty of other actors, like Armie Hammer , who could possibly fill the role of dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair in “Catching Fire.” Josh Hutcherson certainly couldn’t pick when MTV News caught up with him after the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “I mean, honestly, I have no idea. I definitely need to re-read the second book,” he said. “I haven’t read it since I first read them, before the first one. So I think I kind of need to read it again to get a better grasp.” His fellow MTV Movie Award winner for Best Fight , Alexander Ludwig, had one person he’d love to see tackle the charming and sexy Finnick. “Whenever I read the books, I always thought Ryan Reynolds would be a great Finnick.” he said. “Ryan Reynolds is just how I pictured.” When asked what characteristics Reynolds or any actor must possess to play the part, he broke it down for us. “I think he’s just got a charisma about him. Whenever I read the books, I was like ‘If I don’t get a [role] in the first one, [then I’d be interested].’ Finnick had always been something I was interested in as a character because he reminds me a little of myself.” “He’s got a really good charisma about him,” he added. “He’s also got that bit of an egotistical edge to him which isn’t like me but I love it as character. It’s hilarious and he’s a really strong character too and he’s a really big part of the second book. He’s the most anticipated character in my mind as well. I can’t wait to see who they cast for him.” Best On-Screen Transformation winner and fellow “HG” star Elizabeth Banks was pretty stumped to have to play casting director for the part. “I don’t [know], honestly,” she said. “Everybody that’s ever been mentioned seems fantastic. I’m sure they’ll find the right fit. I think the cast has come together in such an amazing way so far and I know that their goal is to keep adding the best people and the people that its gonna be great.” So, what does she hope Finn will be like? “You know, just charisma, just a lot of charisma,” she said. “And he’s a looker.” Hutcherson added, “Physically strong, I think that’s a big important thing. I think somebody who’s kind of similar to Peeta in the sense that he knows sort of how to work the situation a little bit. I think the physicality would be really important for Finnick because he’s such an imposing character, for sure.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Johnny Depp, The Black Keys Perform Live at MTV Movie Awards

Johnny Depp is no longer one of the coolest men alive. He is officially THE coolest man alive. At the MTV Movie Awards last night, he was not only handed the Generation Award, but joined The Black Keys live onstage for special performances of “Gold on the Ceiling” and “Lonely Boy.” You may now add rock star to his resume: The Black Keys – Gold on the Ceiling (Ft. Johnny Depp) The often-animated Depp maintained a straight face through the song, letting singer Dan Auerbach and guitarist Patrick Carney soak up the spotlight. It was an awesome moment … so much so that host Russell Brand had to take a break from making penis jokes to acknowledge it. Not a small feat. Depp is far from a novice, however. A fairly accomplished musician, he’s collaborated with everyone from Oasis to Alice Cooper over the past 25 years. Still, this ranks up there with the Dark Shadows star’s top moments, we’re guessing. Certainly for fans, his cool quotient was never been higher.

Kristen Stewart Makes Out with Self at MTV Movie Awards

Kristen Stewart. Who knew she had it in her?!? At last night’s MTV Movie Awards , the Twilight Saga star won Best Kiss along with co-star and real-life boyfriend Robert Pattinson. It was the latter’s third consecutive time taking home this trophy, only in this case Pattinson and Stewart did not make out, nor did Rob kiss Taylor Lautner , because he was not in attendance. So, what was a lonely Stewart to do on stage? Actually be funny! She called out for Chris Hemsworth as a make-out partner… then Charlize Theron… and finally Lautner (“Taylor, old friend. Help an old friend. Come on!”). When no one showed up, Kristen was forced to rely on her own lips. Watch the video now and see what we mean: Kristen Stewart Wins Best Kiss
