‘Dark Knight Rises’ Movie Awards Footage: What We Saw

Brand-new footage gives fans terrifying insight into Bane, who may be Batman’s most menacing enemy ever. By Kevin P. Sullivan Tom Hardy as Bane in “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. After weeks of waiting, never-before-seen footage from ” The Dark Knight Rises ” debuted at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards , and no matter how much awesomely new material we saw, the clip could never be long enough. Christian Bale , Gary Oldman , Joseph Gordon-Levitt , and director Christopher Nolan were on hand to present the footage, and they did not let us down. The montage included brand-new scenes with Catwoman, more footage of the aerial vehicle, the Bat, and a terrifying shot of Bane, sure to stay burned in the collective memory of Batman fans. Here’s our take on the new “Dark Knight Rises” footage. The Batcave It may seem like a silly thing to look forward to when you consider all the action and chemically enhanced super villains in the film, but the Batcave will be making a welcome return for the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The secret lair took one movie off after it burned to the ground in “Batman Begins,” but the newest footage from the movie shows the underground sanctuary up-and-running with a shiny, new Batsuit case to boot. The Bat’s Best Friend The latest round of TV spots has shown us the more playful side to Nolan’s take on Selina Kyle. Like any good version of Catwoman, she’s going to tease Bruce Wayne, maybe play a little hard to get, but when it comes down to it, she isn’t all that bad. The last trailer even showed her fighting alongside the Caped Crusader. In the MTV Movie Awards footage, the best part of the segment came when a frightened guard turned the corner to come face-to-face with Kyle, who gave him a little tip. “He’s behind you,” she said, of course referring to the upside down Batman, waiting to pounce. The clip made us incredibly excited to find out just how well these two work together. “Let the Games Begin” It appears that Bane has one thing on his mind: Taking Gotham for his own. It starts with the destruction of the football stadium during the Gotham Rogues game, and if the clip is any indication, Bane seems to be pretty successful in his takeover initially. We see his thugs dragging a man into a chair as if he’s about to face the judge, jury and executioner. Men with guns freely roam the wintry streets of Gotham. The new footage makes us wonder just how bad things get before Batman is (hopefully) able to save the day. That Shot Of Bane You know the one. Near the very end of the segment, Batman and Bane charge at each other, like we’ve seen a dozen times before in trailers and TV spots. Only this time, Bane grabs Batman’s fist as he tries to throw a punch, and the look on Tom Hardy’s face is terrifying. It’s the kind of look that instantly makes you believe Selina Kyle in the next scene when she says, “That you should be as afraid of him as I am.” Believe us, Catwoman, we saw the look on his face. We’re afraid. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards ! Russell Brand At Movie Awards: His Nine Funniest Jokes

From Twilight to Teen Mom, no pop-culture stone was left unturned. By Terri Schwartz Russell Brand hosts the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Russell Brand might have to host every MTV awards show from here on out! The 2012 MTV Movie Awards were immediately off to a good start thanks to Brand’s , and he kept the jokes rolling throughout the rest of the two-hour-long show. In honor of Brand’s sharp witticisms, we’ve put together a list of his nine best jokes that kept us laughing long after he finished telling them. Twilight! Hunger Games! When Brand first walked out onto the Movie Awards stage and started yelling, ” Twilight! Hunger Games!” we figured he was off Andy Samberg. Instead, as he said later in the monologue, he was using them because “these words generate goodwill.” They certainly did, as he used them repeatedly over the course of the night. It’s the End of the World as We Know It “Tonight is an important ceremony because according to the Mayans, the world will end in December this year,” Brand pointed out. “If Earth hurtles into the sun and humanity is destroyed, we will all say as one: We had the MTV Movie Awards 2012 and it was worth it! ” Yes we can, and yes we will. Justin Bieber Is the Man The first pop-culturally relevant moment Brand brought up in his opening monologue was Justin Bieber’s recent attack on a member of the paparazzi. “Justin Bieber beat up a paparazzi. Well done, Justin!” he said. Brand went on to say that he didn’t think he’d ever be able to hit Biebs if he fought him because the 18-year-old is “so pretty” that “even if he was attacking me, I think I would do a little orgasm.” Well, to each his own. Kann-Yay and Kim Brand was quick to thank Kim Kardashian for making his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry not seem so bad in the scheme of things, but he then went on to beg the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star and her new boyfriend Kanye West — whose first name he repeatedly mispronounced ” Kann -Yay” — to make a sex tape. “I think of Kim Kardashian as the Stanley Kubrick of sex tapes,” Brand said. “They’re always brilliant, but he only does one a decade.” Brand’s Special “Grease” Tribute Nothing was off limits during the Movie Awards, not even John Travolta’s recent sex scandal . After saying that “Rock of Ages” is the best movie since “Grease,” Brand said he honored that film by giving Travolta a massage. “He needed it, man. He was so stiff, I’m telling ya!” Brand said. Michael Fassbender and His Penis He claimed he never noticed Fassbender’s “huge, engorged talent as I was staring at his massive co–.” That must have been why he decided the “Prometheus” star was going to be the next celebrity he married following hosting an MTV awards show. Sorry, Katy! Taking Advantage of Charlie Sheen’s Old Addictions Charlie Sheen was a great sport during Brand’s opening monologue, especially since the Brit repeatedly took jabs at the “Anger Management” star’s recent problems. “I’ve taped a bottle of Hennessy and a gram of coke under your chair. In case I start going crazy, just nick it and do a couple of lines. Release the tiger blood hero!” Brand said to resounding laughter. Our New Host: Julianne Hough’s Nephew One of the best parts of the night came when a behind-the-scenes shot showed Brand coaching Julianne Hough’s nephew and date for the night to replace him as host. According to Brand, all you need to do to be a great Movie Awards host is talk about farts a lot . And the cutest part is that it was all improvised “! “Teen Mom” Vs. “Teen Wolf” As you probably realized once the 2012 MTV Movie Awards wrapped, the show wasn’t followed by “Teen Mom,” but rather by the season-two premiere of “Teen Wolf.” Whoops! We can’t tell if his gibes at “Teen Mom” instead of “Wolf” were intentional or a mistake, but we still can’t get over his joke, “Do stay tuned after the show for the new season of Teen Mom, where pregnant women are laughed at for money!” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Black Keys Starting A Band With Johnny Depp After Movie Awards?

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney joke about forming a T. Rex cover band with Depp and Matthew McConaughey. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Johnny Depp and the Black Keys perform at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — The 2012 MTV Movie Awards only just ended, but we can’t get over the epic onscreen performance/award presentation between the Black Keys and Johnny Depp. Not to mention the fact that they were introduced by rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. When MTV News caught up with the Keys themselves, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, backstage after their performance, we asked them how they were feeling after coming offstage. “Super normal, that’s a normal moment for us,” Auerbach joked. “Yeah that’s our normal lives, hanging out with rock stars and movie stars, you know. It was actually a little boring.” “I was trying to hold back yawns,” added Carney. We then tried to get to the bottom of how the unexpected collaboration came to fruition, but even the Keys themselves seemed to have no idea. “I don’t know, I think MTV has a random computer generator,” Auerbach joked, with Carney chiming in, “It was supposed to be us and Regis Philbin, but we rejected it.” In all seriousness, the duo had nothing but praise for their guest star, particularly his preparation and skills on the guitar. “He’s a really good guitar player,” Carney said. “Yeah, no joke. He’s a really good guitar player,” Auerbach reiterated. So now that they’ve played with one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, what other movie stars will the Keys be collaborating with in the future? “Matthew McConaughey on bongos,” Carney joked. “We’re going to start a T. Rex cover band with Johnny Depp and Matthew McConaughey as Mickey Finn.” And now that they’ve finished their work for the night, will the guys be meeting up with Depp after the show? “We’re all going to go meet up at Se

Christian Bale Gets Emotional Seeing Heath Ledger In ‘Dark Knight’ Montage

Actor chokes up after seeing late ‘Dark Knight’ co-star Ledger in clip at 2012 MTV Movie Awards. By John Mitchell Christian Bale on stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ WireImage The cast of “The Dark Knight Rises” took the stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards to introduce an exclusive clip from the hotly anticipated summer blockbuster, but things took an unexpectedly emotional turn following a montage of director Christopher Nolan’s first two “Batman” films, which included scenes of the late Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as the Joker in “The Dark Knight.” At the clip’s conclusion, Christian Bale, flanked by his co-stars Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, stepped up to the mic and said, “Wow, great to remember Heath at that moment. Wonderful to see Heath Ledger there.” The Oscar-winning actor then lowered his head and appeared to get choked up as the audience applauded for Ledger, who died in January 2008 at age 28 from an acute intoxication from the combined effects of several prescription medications. A few months after his passing, “The Dark Knight” arrived in theaters to critical acclaim and enormous box-office success. Ledger’s performance in “The Dark Knight” won the actor a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. After stepping back from the mic for a moment of silence, the actor wiped his nose and soldiered on. “The final chapter of ‘The Dark Knight’ has been written,” he continued, before deferring to Gordon-Levitt, who brought Nolan onstage to introduce the exclusive new peek at “The Dark Knight Rises.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Jennifer Aniston’s Foul-Mouthed, Sex-Crazed Boss Wins Best Dirtbag

‘Horrible Bosses’ star even filthier than Jon Hamm and Colin Farrell in brand-new Movie Awards category. By Jason Kaufman and Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Aniston in “Horrible Bosses” Photo: Warner Bros. In the end, Jennifer Aniston wound up being the filthiest of them all. Aniston took home the very first Best On-Screen Dirtbag prize at the MTV Movie Awards for her role as sex-crazed dentist Julia Harris in “Horrible Bosses.” The category was introduced this year to celebrate the most cringe-worthy characters to hit the big screen this year. But before she took the stage, a real-life cringe-worthy moment took place when some audience member heckled presenters Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg when they took the stage. The actress shook off the jab, with “Ted” co-star Wahlberg by her side, and handed the Golden Popcorn to Aniston. “I mean, do you know how long I have tried to have somebody let me unleash my on-screen dirtbag? A really long time,” Aniston told the room. “And thank God this category just popped up. So I would like to say ‘thank you’ to the television show ‘Friends’ for letting me unleash the inner sweetheart and here’s to [director] Seth Gordon for allowing me to be a dirtbag.” Aniston faced some stiff competition. Bryce Dallas Howard made for a horribly racist Miss Hilly in “The Help.” Jon Hamm used bedroom acrobatics to turn Kristen Wiig upside down in “Bridesmaids.” Aniston’s own “Bosses” co-star Colin Farrell had gotten reckless with a mound of cocaine and a slimy mustache. And then there was “Project X” star Oliver Cooper for his over-the-top party-boy antics. Cooper made the case for why he should win to MTV News all week. “I f—ed up an entire neighborhood. I didn’t care about my friends. I still don’t care about those guys, OK? What else did I do in that movie? I don’t even remember. It’s all a blur. I don’t even care about the movie — that’s how much of a dirtbag I am,” Cooper told us. “I just want that goddamn popcorn, so I can have a career.” In the end, all of Cooper’s campaigning didn’t matter since the Golden Popcorn is headed towards Aniston’s mantle. When MTV News caught up with the unexpected scene-stealer last summer to discuss “Bosses,” she revealed how

MTV Movie Awards Go Live Tonight! Who Will Win Big?

The Girl on Fire and the Boy Who Lived are destined for Golden Popcorn greatness, while big things are in store for ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Magic Mike’ fans as well. By Josh Wigler Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Happy MTV Movie Awards day, and may the odds be ever in your favor! You have no shortage of films and stars to root for when tuning into the big show tonight (June 3) at 9 p.m. ET, and that only makes the decisions harder. How can you possibly choose between supporting the Boy Who Lived’s last night at the Movie Awards and Katniss Everdeen’s first time in the arena? Too much pressure! Still, as in every competition, there will be winners and losers at this year’s show, with plenty of cause for triumph and heartbreak. And while we’re still hours away from knowing exactly who those victors are, we’ve got some sneaking suspicions about who will wind up owning the night. Keep reading for our predictions: “The Hunger Games” Before Iron Man and the rest of “The Avengers” sucked all the air out of the box office, 2012’s biggest commercial titan was the Girl on Fire. Tonight at the Movie Awards, Katniss doesn’t have to worry about Earth’s mightiest heroes — only Captain America and Thor are nominated for Best Hero , and it will take a miracle to boost them to the top — and can instead focus on main rivals “Bridesmaids” and “Harry Potter.” Fans have rallied behind “Hunger Games” in a massive way over the past year, and with a leading nine nominations to its name, the odds are most certainly in this movie’s favor for ruling the show tonight. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” This is Harry’s final time to shine at the Movie Awards. As the fourth highest-grossing picture of all time, it’s safe to say that there are more than a few fans hoping for some good old-fashioned “Deathly Hallows” domination. Best Cast should be a lock for “Potter,” if only to acknowledge the phenomenal work of scenery-chewers Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. It’s neck-and-neck between Potter and Katniss for Best Hero, but we’re placing our money on the Boy Wizard. And a Movie of the Year win is not out of the question, either. It has a huge obstacle to overcome in the increasingly hot “Hunger Games,” but as Lord Voldemort learned the hard way, you can never put Potter down for the count. “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans No matter who you’re rooting for at the Movie Awards, it’s the fans who will walk away the winners — Batman fans in particular. Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman will all be on hand to present exclusive “Dark Knight Rises” footage at the show, in case you haven’t heard. Though we’re still in the dark regarding what exactly we’ll see, Movie Awards director Hamish Hamilton has seen the top-secret footage, and he’s “telling you, it’s good.” Expect this footage to be the talk of the town (or at least the Twitterverse) long after the show ends. Shirtless-Men Enthusiasts Another someone with an outside shot at dominating the Movie Awards conversation tonight is Channing Tatum, who finds himself nominated for multiple awards, including Best Kiss and Best Hero. Don’t count on him winning either of those awards — the former is all “Twilight,” and the latter is a battle of the bows and wands — but who needs a Golden Popcorn statuette when you have abs to put Taylor Lautner to shame? There’s growing buzz that Tatum is going to bring some of his “Magic Mike” shirtless magic to Movie Awards viewers tonight, so if you’re a fan of hot men sans clothes, you might be this year’s biggest winner. Russell Brand Finally, hats off to the man who’s going to keep the trains powered by farts tonight: Russell Brand, host of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Mark Wahlberg’s threats aside, we’re very confident Brand is going to absolutely tear it up at the show this year, if his past performances as host of the VMAs are any indication. Besides, Brand is allowed to do whatever he wants tonight — group sex , anyone? Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now! ‘True Blood,’ ‘Vampire Diaries’ Stars Get A Supernatural Intervention

‘Teen Wolf’ star Tyler Hoechlin also joins ‘After Hours’ Actors Anonymous group, before MTV Movie Awards. By Terri Schwartz Candice Accola and Joe Manganiello Photo: MTV News “Sometimes I look out the window, and I realize that it’s not going to end well for me. I’m Joe Manganiello, and I’m obsessed with playing werewolves.” And thus starts our special MTV Movie Awards -edition “After Hours,” starring some of our favorite stars from “True Blood,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Teen Wolf.” We always knew there was something a little funny about the actors who love playing supernatural beings over and over and over again, but we didn’t realize how deep the addiction ran. Fortunately, MTV News’ Josh Horowitz put together a very official (and certainly not made-up) support group called Actors Anonymous to help them get through these trying times in their lives. For Manganiello, his obsession manifests in his “monster” coming out. And yes, he is referring to his penis. “The Vampire Diaries” star Candice Accola can “totally relate,” as she recently went to an audition for a Zac Efron romantic comedy wearing some fangs and a cape. But it’s “True Blood” actress Kristin Bauer who has us the most worried. “Why can’t I drink human blood?” she asked indignantly. “Who says that’s so ‘wrong’?” “I love blood,” Manganiello agreed. “It’s good with scotch,” “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Hoechlin added. We’re pretty sure these stars should have a support group just for the belief that there’s not “one thing wrong” with drinking blood. Unfortunately, we don’t provide those services here at MTV, so we’ll just have to let them run wild. If you’ve noticed that many actors who play werewolves tend to get very, very hairy during filming, apparently it just comes with the territory. Hoechlin and Manganiello both admitted to having the same affliction. Maybe Brad Pitt has been preparing for a werewolf role for a while now? The Movie Awards are going to be “After Hours” mania, so make sure you stay tuned to the for some fun surprises.
