Angelina Jolie, Rain Battle For Biggest Badass Star At MTV Movie Awards

Sam Worthington, Chris Pine and Channing Tatum will also throw down in the category at Sunday’s show. By Josh Wigler Angelina Jolie in “Salt” Photo: Andrew Schwartz There are some new categories this year at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, including Biggest Badass Star — and no, it’s not unnatural that you’re intimidated by this addition to the competitive lineup. After all, when talking about an assortment of characters ranging from a betrayed super-spy to a big blue alien, it’s more than understandable to find yourself in awe. There’s Chris Pine for starters — he portrayed “Star Trek” leading man James T. Kirk, a Star Fleet graduate who is light-years ahead of his class in terms of intellect, bravery and skill, even if his cocksure attitude frequently lowers his reputation in the eyes of his contemporaries. The real question is, how will voters react to the character’s signature arrogance? Even if Pine can command a starship crew, is he capable of staving off the vicious warrior played by Rain in “Ninja Assassin,” the action flick produced by the Wachowski siblings? As the silent killer Raizo, the South Korean pop sensation pursued his fictional mentor with a bloodlust rarely seen in modern mainstream cinema. But are moviegoers on board with Raizo’s quest for vengeance? He’s not the only one out to settle a score, as Angelina Jolie is also a candidate for Biggest Badass Star. No stranger to playing badasses, in the upcoming “Salt” she’s an agent betrayed by her own government and forced to clear her name. If Jolie’s Salt is a questionable quantity in her country’s eyes, there’s no denying who the real American hero is of these nominees: none other than Channing Tatum, who played the courageous Duke in “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” While Duke’s loyalties are unquestionable, his Boy Scout level of commitment to upholding rules could ultimately cost him in the race towards Biggest Badass. In the end, if there’s one thing these four contenders can agree upon, it’s this: Sam Worthington has a major advantage thanks to two separate badass roles this year in “Avatar” and “Clash of the Titans.” But in the Australian actor’s defense, both human-turned-alien-warrior Jake Sully and the partially godlike Perseus truly were two of the most undisputed badasses of the year — can anyone really hold those performances against Worthington? ‘Percy Jackson’ Star Logan Lerman Felt ‘Really Stupid’ During Best Fight-Nominated Scene

‘You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit,’ Lerman says. By Eric Ditzian Logan Lerman Photo: MTV News Best Fight might be the most deceptive of all the MTV Movie Awards’ categories. What fans see up on the screen — those weapon-wielding brawls, knees to the groin and bloody-gash-opening body blows — certainly looks badass, what goes into creating them on set is quite often the opposite. And that, perhaps, is what make a cinematic fight truly great: you cringe at every punch, feel your stomach turn as the blood flows, you simply believe it, despite knowing it’s all make believe. It’s in this context that we approach this year’s Best Fight nominees , in particular Logan Lerman and Jake Abel’s throwdown in “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” “It was awkward,” Lerman laughed during an interview with MTV News. “I felt really stupid doing it. You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit and feel comfortable to be in the moment.” Lerman plays a dyslexic high school kid who discovers he’s actually the son of Poseidon and is pulled into a world-saving mission in which he battles snake-haired villains, nefarious demigods and a few terrifying beasts. The climatic scene — the one for which he’s nominated — sees him facing off against Abel on the rooftops, and in the skies, of New York City. They fly, they clash, they crash, they fly some more, until Lerman uses his powers to manipulate water and lay down some serious hurt. “That was about a month of filming just to do that one sequence,” Lerman explained. “We learned so much. We had to learn how to fly, be in wires and make it look good. Go down rooftops while having to swing at invisible lightning bolts being shot at you. It was a pretty crazy experience and I was completely blown away when I saw it onscreen. I’m so glad it got nominated — and pray that it wins!” His competition is stiff, and he’s most worried about Beyonc

By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Entertainment Last month, when we told you Robert Pattinson , Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner would be on hand at the MTV Movie Awards to present a never-before-scene clip from “Eclipse,” fans went wild trying to guess just what footage they’d get. Would it be the part where Edward Cullen proposes to Bella Swan? That much-hyped tent scene that co-star Elizabeth Reaser called a “chaste three-way” ? Well, the full clip won’t be unleashed until the Movie Awards this Sunday, but it’s just cruel to make you wait that long to find out what you’ll be getting on show night. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Is ‘Big Enough’ For Two Films, Chris Weitz Says

‘New Moon’ director also talks birth scene: ‘Kristen Stewart giving live birth through the stomach in 3-D! I’m there.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Weitz Photo: MTV News The “Twilight” gang loves Chris Weitz. There’s no doubting that. In the run-up to the release of the Weitz-helmed “New Moon,” Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner spoke effusively about working with the director, even hoping he might reprise his role behind the camera for “Breaking Dawn.” Weitz ended up declining the opportunity to bring the final book in the vampire series to the big screen, but he remains flattered that the cast supports him and even has a bit of advice for “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”). “That’s very sweet,” Weitz told MTV News when reminded of how the cast has championed him. “I think that’s because I was the last person who directed them.” Weitz, who led “New Moon” to more than $700 million in worldwide box-office receipts, is confident that Condon is the right man to step into the director’s chair for “Breaking Dawn.” “I think he’s terribly talented,” Weitz said. “I know him, he’s a solid citizen, great guy, very smart. I think he’s going to do an amazing job.” His one piece of advice? “Think carefully about babies clawing out of people’s stomachs,” Weitz said in reference to one scene in the book, going on to refer to an even more famous scene in 1979’s “Alien.” “[Director] Ridley Scott sort of did it.” Weitz added with a laugh, “Kristen Stewart giving live birth through the stomach in 3-D! I’m there. I’m paying.” And he’d be happy to pay for not just one film, but two. It has long been rumored that “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two flicks. That’s a move Weitz endorses. “The book is big enough that it would warrant it,” he said.
