‘Last Airbender’ Clip Premieres On MTV Movie Awards

Footage, featuring Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone, promises spectacular set-up for M. Night Shyamalan adaptation. By Todd Gilchrist Dev Patel in “The Last Airbender” Photo: Paramount Pictures Last year, M. Night Shyamalan took the helm of “The Last Airbender,” a live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” and a new clip from the film premiered on tonight’s MTV Movie Awards. While it remains to be seen whether the film will feature one of the writer/ director’s trademark twist endings, the footage fans are seeing promises nothing short of a spectacular set-up for an epic franchise. The clip opens with a shot of Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (“Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone) as they trudge through a snowy landscape. The pair emerges onto a frozen lake where something lurks ominously beneath them in the water below. After Sokka strikes the ice, a ball rises before them and a bolt of energy erupts from the top of it. Although it’s not entirely clear whether the Airbender himself pops out of that big ball of icy energy, as he lands center screen, a disembodied voice tells him, “Airbender, only you have the power to master all of the elements and save us all.” While such an observation would certainly offer anyone else an unwanted amount of pressure, Airbender promptly responds by kicking the tar out of seemingly everyone in his path, using the four elements — air, water, fire and earth — to dispatch adversaries and generally look like a total badass. And when those elements don’t do the job, Airbender’s got a freaking spear just for added measure. Of course, you’ll have to see if Airbender is truly the last of his kind, and perhaps more importantly, if he is the last man standing, when the movie arrives in theaters on July 2. But in the meantime, check out everything MTV has on “The Last Airbender,” as well as a lot of other new movies coming to theaters soon! How Kristen Stewart Won (And Lost) Her Movie Awards Golden Popcorn

The ‘Twilight’ star wanted to keep the trophy she dropped and broke last year. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards During last year’s MTV Movie Awards, viewers gasped as “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart dropped — and broke! — her Golden Popcorn statue after accepting the award for Best Female Performance. It was an awkward yet endearing (and very Bella-like) moment, and it turned out to be one that KStew truly wanted to cherish forever. Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, the woman in charge of handling the coveted trophies each year, told MTV News exactly what happened following Stewart’s acceptance speech snafu. “These things are pretty heavy,” she explained of the Golden Popcorns. “Unfortunately she dropped it on these three spectacular popcorn [pieces] that are just kind of on the side. The popcorn flew off. But usually we take all the [trophies] back to New York and get them engraved, so we put it back in the box with the others and shipped them back to New York.” Fast-forward a week and half, when Stewart received her new, engraved Golden Popcorn. “I got a phone call from her mother, and her mother said, ‘Kristen would like to have the popcorn that she dropped as her award,’ ” said Dela Rosa. “Unfortunately, we didn’t mark it, so I couldn’t give it to them. They were heartbroken. I felt so bad. She literally was like, ‘You really can’t find it? You really don’t know which one?’ I actually considered dropping one and then re-gluing it with some Krazy Glue to make it look crazy.” But by then, the “Twilight” star already had her statue and there was no chance of inserting a fake. This year, though, Dela Rosa and her team are prepared. “We have actually have the prop master on alert that if anything happens to any of the awards, whether it’s Kristen or anyone else, they are to mark it, put it to the side and not do anything to it and give it to me,” she said. ‘A-Team’ Stars Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel Reveal Secrets To A Great Kiss

Pair will present Best Kiss at MTV Movie Awards Sunday night. By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz MTV News’ Josh Horowitz and Jessica Biel Photo: MTV News In their new film “The A-Team,” Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel share a memorable lip-lock as Face and one of his comely cohorts, Charisa Sosa. But as attractive as the prospect of a make-out session between these two very attractive actors might be, on Sunday night all eyes will be on the couple they present Best Kiss to at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . MTV Movies recently spoke with Cooper and Biel during interviews promoting “The A-Team,” which hits theaters June 11. In addition to describing the challenges of bringing to life a big-screen version of the beloved 1980s television series, the actors each revealed their own secrets for creating a memorable onscreen kiss. Cooper said that crafting a successful kiss has a lot to do with how it looks. “It’s got to be hot, right?” he said. The actor has enjoyed his share of smooches in recent movies, with Leslie Bibb in “The Midnight Meat Train,” Rachel McAdams in “Wedding Crashers,” Sandra Bullock in “All About Steve” and both Jennifer Connelly and Scarlett Johansson in “He’s Just Not That Into You.” (That last one more or less makes him our personal hero.) For Biel, meanwhile, the key to a great kiss has a lot to do with chemistry — and she means that literally. “Probably cherry lip gloss is a good ingredient,” she revealed. “And maybe an Altoid.” In addition to her recent smooch with Cooper, during her movie career Biel has shared sweet moments with Freddie Prinze Jr., Chris Evans, Nicolas Cage, Adam Sandler and Jamie Foxx. She admitted that her secrets to onscreen kissing were probably applicable to kisses in the real world as well, calling it good advice “in general, really.” Check out the nominees for Best Kiss at MovieAwards.MTV.com, where your vote will help pick the winner! ‘Avatar’ Vs. ‘New Moon’: Who Will Be MTV Movie Awards’ Best Movie?

Front-runners are joined by ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Hangover.’ By Todd Gilchrist Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington in “Avatar” Photo: 20th Century Fox With so many other fun categories for fans to vote on, it’s almost easy to forget about the meat and potatoes of the MTV Movie Awards , the big kahuna of the competition, Best Movie. Although a fan favorite (“The Twilight Saga: New Moon”) and a box-office champion (“Avatar”) make this a particularly contentious category, the most remarkable thing about this year’s Best Movie race is the eclecticism and quality of the films in the running. Take a closer look at the nominees below. Additionally, head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com for more information and to vote for your favorites. The big show starts tonight at 9 p.m. ET. “Alice in Wonderland” There’s probably no greater visionary working in mainstream movies today than Tim Burton, and his adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” is the perfect pairing of moviemaker and material. Offering visionary, jaw-dropping visuals, amazing, inventive characters and a compelling coming-of-age story, Burton’s Wonderland is a wonderful place to visit. “Avatar” More than 10 years in the making, James Cameron’s return to fiction filmmaking is a breathtaking and groundbreaking new vision of the possibilities the silver screen holds. Featuring motion-capture CGI that renders every reaction and quirk of actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, Cameron creates a world unlike anything audiences have ever seen while taking them on a journey that harks back to the most basic formulas of film storytelling. The movie that made 3-D a must-have technology for almost all future films, “Avatar” is a game changer for cinema as a whole as well as a phenomenon unto itself. “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” Six movies after Daniel Radcliffe and company first brought J.K. Rowling’s book series to life on the silver screen, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” proves that the films still have plenty of creativity, and more than that, originality in them. Radcliffe continues to mature into the grown-up Harry Potter who has yet to confront his greatest adversaries, while director David Yates gives this sixth installment a unique look that sets it apart from the rest of the films and yet makes it fit in perfectly with what has come before. This film may feature a half-blood prince, but it’s indisputably, absolutely, fully entertaining. “The Hangover” Todd Phillips is no stranger either to raunchy comedies or to revealing the appeal of new comedic talents, having helped Will Ferrell become a star with 2003’s “Old School.” But “The Hangover” marks a turning point in the director’s career as he elevates misbehavior to the stuff of gutter poetry, assembling four equally talented but different performers to create an unforgettable, hilarious ensemble. Featuring Breakthrough and Best Comedic Performance nominee Zach Galifianakis and Best Comedic Performance nominee Bradley Cooper, “The Hangover” has “instant classic” written all over it, packing as much power as a punch from Mike Tyson. “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Following 2008’s enormously successful “Twilight,” the cast reunited under the watchful auspices of “The Golden Compass” director Chris Weitz to expand the scope and drama of Stephenie Meyer’s book series even further. Bella’s relationship with Edward gets much more complicated when he departs for destinations unknown after a violent incident at the Cullen house, but her longtime friend Jacob threatens to become a surrogate or even possible replacement boyfriend after he does some growing up (in all the right places). A rich and dramatic romance that also includes plenty of requisite vampire and werewolf action, “New Moon” is the sort of adventure that lingers with you long after the sun has come up. Snooki Weighs In On Kristen Stewart’s Movie Award-Nominated Kisses

‘If Kristen wins with Dakota, Rob is going to be very jealous,’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ starlet tells MTV News. By Christopher “CJ” Smith Snooki Photo: MTV News One of the hottest categories (literally) at Sunday’s 2010 MTV Movie Awards will be Best Kiss , and there’s plenty of lip-smacking smooches to drool over. Kristen Stewart has two chances to pick up some Golden Popcorn in the coveted category, as she’s nominated for her kisses with Dakota Fanning in “The Runaways” and with Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” “Jersey Shore” starlet Snooki knows a thing or two about locking lips, but even she was shocked at the amount of action Kristen got onscreen. “And I’m the whore!” she told MTV News when asked which Kristen kiss was hottest. She even predicted some trouble for the (rumored) “Twilight” couple if the “Runaways” kiss takes home the gold. “If Kristen wins with Dakota, Rob is going to be very jealous,” she said. “But, you know, maybe he’ll be a little excited!” It’s possible the two Kristen kisses will split the votes and neither will end up on top, giving fellow nominees Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds from “The Proposal,” Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner from “Valentine’s Day” or Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington from the blockbuster “Avatar” a path to victory. You’ll just have to tune in Sunday to find out the results! During MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” which airs at 8 p.m., right before the Movie Awards, Snooki, Pauly, JWoww, the Situation, Angelina, Sammi, Ronnie and Vinny will present the first 10 minutes of “Jersey Shore” season two . The new season, which premieres in full on Thursday, July 29, follows the cast as they leave the chilly winter waters of Seaside Heights and head out on a road trip to Miami. Jessica Biel And Bradley Cooper Need To Catch Up On ‘Jersey Shore’

They better hurry — the ‘Jersey Shore’ cast will join the ‘A-Team’ stars on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet Sunday! By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bradley Cooper Photo: MTV News Given the fact that the impeccably coiffed folks from MTV’s “Jersey Shore” are virtually everywhere these days, it’s hard to imagine that anyone isn’t on a first-name basis with the castmembers. But it turns out that some actors and filmmakers simply don’t budget enough time into their superstar schedules to keep tabs on Snooki, JWoww and the rest of the crew. When asked if he were familiar with the show, Bradley Cooper, who is presenting Best Kiss at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards ceremony, told MTV Movies: “I am ashamed to say that I am not, because all of my friends, that’s all they talk about.” Cooper revealed that he actually has his own Jersey connection: “I grew up going to the Jersey Shore every summer.” Meanwhile, Jessica Biel, who not only is presenting the Best Kiss award with Cooper but also co-stars with him in the new “A-Team” film, admitted she knew about the show, but wasn’t much more familiar with it than Cooper. “I’ve never seen it,” Biel confessed. “I know who these people are — I mean, I don’t live in a hole. Well, somewhat but not really. But I’ve never seen the show.” The MTV Movies team helped Biel out, explaining that Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s perfectly carved physique earned him his now-infamous nickname. Biel laughed, “Oh, God, that’s a person? ‘The Situation’ equals ample abs? I wasn’t aware. Thank you! “I know somebody would have said that,” she said about walking the Movie Awards red carpet on Sunday and fielding “Jersey Shore” questions. “And I would have said, ‘I don’t know what’s going on! What’s happening?’ ” During MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” which airs at 8 p.m., right before the Movie Awards, Snooki, Pauly, JWoww, the Situation, Angelina, Sammi, Ronnie and Vinny will present the first 10 minutes of “Jersey Shore” season two .
