‘Hunger Games’ Role Is ‘So Right’ For Josh Hutcherson

‘I had never read a character that was more like who I am as a person,’ he tells MTV News of playing Peeta. By Kara Warner Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate All right, “Hunger Games” fans, are you ready for a little exclusive interview with soon-to-be superstar Josh Hutcherson? We’ve been hinting about it ever since we named Hutcherson “Most Likely to Play a Superhero” as part of our New Class , and the time has finally come to unveil this nifty bit of footage that will have you convinced (if you weren’t already) he’s one to watch in 2012. For those unfamiliar with the talented 18-year-old, he made a splash in Hollywood last year with his buzzed-about performance in the award-season darling “The Kids Are All Right,” and now he’s embodying the pivotal and beloved role of Peeta Mellark in the highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ dystopian best-seller “The Hunger Games.” MTV News was very lucky to catch up with Hutcherson recently, when he discussed the importance of landing the role, what Peeta means to him and his favorite scene to film. MTV News : Talk to us about what the role of Peeta means to you and why you love him. Josh Hutcherson : It’s so crazy. When I read the books, I had never read a character that was more like who I am as a person and had kind of my core values and what I believe in. So it kind of drove me crazy in a way, because I felt like I was so right for it, then I had to go through this crazy audition process. So to finally be making the movie and now we’re finished, it’s like, somebody please pinch me, because I still don’t believe this is actually happening. For me, it’s just an honor to be a part of such a great story. Gary Ross is such an amazing director, and Jennifer Lawrence is perfect, and everyone else we cast was really great. MTV : What was the audition process like? Did you do specific scene work? Hutcherson : For the audition process, I came in the first time and read a few scenes for Gary Ross and [author] Suzanne Collins and some of the other producers involved. Then maybe about a week or so, maybe two weeks later, I came in and did a screen test with Jennifer, where I actually read the scenes with her so they could see how the chemistry worked. Both of them felt really great, but as an actor, you just pick apart every single thing that you do, so for me, I was on pins and needles waiting to find out. And then when I finally found out, my jaw hit the floor. I was so excited. MTV : What were your favorite scenes to film? Hutcherson : It’s very similar to the book. Probably my favorite scenes are all the scenes with myself and Katniss in the cave, because they’re really emotional and you get to see a lot of their relationship develop there, so for me as an actor, I liked that a lot. And then of course all the physical running through the forest — that was really fun as well. MTV : Did you guys get a lot of bumps and bruises from all that stunt work? Hutcherson : There were tons of bumps and bruises, yeah. It was pretty intense. ‘Immortals’ Is Not ‘Just A Guy Movie,’ Henry Cavill Says

‘It’s a visual spectacle, and the 3-D only adds to that,’ actor says of film, in theaters Friday. By Kara Warner Henry Cavill in “The Immortals” Photo: Universal Pictures For lovers of big-budget, sweeping Greek hero-based epics, the stylized, intense and slightly foreboding promotional campaign for “Immortals” should have already convinced you to get thee to a theater stat when the film opens on Friday. However, for those who might shy away from blood and gore, the stars of the film insist there is a lot more going on in “Immortals” than in typical testosterone-fueled swords-and-sandals flicks. “People are going to think it’s just a guy movie. It’s gonna be all just about violence and it is just for guys,” Henry Cavill , who plays demi-god Theseus, told MTV News recently. “This is entirely different. This has that very strong aspect, which all guys are going to love, the sort of blood and gore and swords and fighting, but it’s so beautifully done. This is Tarsem Singh we’re talking about here, it’s a visual spectacle, and the 3-D only adds to that. “I will say in the past I’ve been skeptical of [3-D, but] after seeing this, the technology has come along so far. This is incredible, and all the violence in the movie, if people don’t like that, it’s actually art-ified,” he explained. “It becomes a ‘beautific’ ballet of blood if you will. That all aside, it’s an incredible love story as well. You often think of these Greek epics — it skirts over all that stuff — but you’ve got an incredibly hardened man who’s hardened his heart to anything at this stage, and there’s a woman who manages to soften him so much so that he starts to think of things which he’s never even considered in the past.” Cavill’s co-stars were equally enthusiastic in their recommendations. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Luke Evans , who plays Zeus, added. “Like Henry said, Tarsem at the helm with his imagination and his enthusiasm and his ideas, it just married so well with what he was doing and the final production. The values of it are just incredible, and we’ve got this 3-D thing and it just comes alive, it really does.” “I think it’s a different take on the whole Greek mythology and that’s going to be the biggest surprise,” Freida Pinto , who plays the “chosen” oracle Phaedra, said. “Visually it’s not like anything, it’s not like any of the big-budget action-packed films that you’ve seen before.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Immortals.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

BREAKING NEWS: Heavy D Confirmed Dead At Age 44

Heavy D reportedly passed away this afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital. Via TMZ : We’ve learned a 911 call was placed from Heavy’s Beverly Hills home around 11:25 AM to report an unconscious male on the walkway . When help arrived, we’re told Heavy D was conscious and speaking — and was transported to a nearby hospital. He died a short time later. Cops are investigating the death — and so far, there are no obvious signs of foul play. Heavy D had several massive hits — including “Now That We Found Love.” He also wrote and performed the theme song for “In Living Color” … and appeared as an actor in the movie “Life.” Heavy just performed at the BET Awards in October — and appeared to be fine Update: The International Business Times just released comments from the L.A. coroner, but they still provide very little information about the cause of death: A spokesman for the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office spoke to the International Business Times Tuesday evening about Heavy D’s cause of death saying, “All we know is he was taken from a location in Beverly Hills on the 400 block of North Maple Drive to the emergency room at Cedar Sinai Medical Center and declared [dead] there,” Spokesman Craig Harvey said. He said the L.A. Coroner’s Office is looking into the cause of death, and that an investigation is under way. “It’s in its infancy stage right now. We don’t have a lot of other information,” Harvey said. “Our guess is that the examination could occur as early as tomorrow, and any final cause of death would be deferred pending a toxicology test.” This one is hard one for any 80s/90s Hip-Hop kid. Katie Holmes Looking Hot at an Event of the Day

I am going to pretend I don’t know what event these pictures were taken at, because I think Jack and Jill is such a horrible fucking concept of a movie, like a mockery to the movie industry and the careers of anyone involved, that I think it is better to just pretend it doesn’t exist and never happened…and Katie Holmes hotness is making that easy…. Sure, she may be a prisoner to the alien gods we all know exist, but don’t want to admit, I mean the concept of DNA code, like we’re fucking computers, is proof enough if you ask me, but she’s still pretty fucking lovely to me…I mean she’s the kind of person I’m okay with being our representative to the higher gods, you know using her vagina for experiments do keep them satisfied and at bay….cuz I’m not ready for a world takeover and massive death and destruction, even if I know we are doomed and know that it is coming….I just haven’t mastered my hand to hand combat yet… Not that it matters….She’s hot in pink and I like looking at her tit, like this was before she found Alien gods, and got naked in movies to redefine herself from the Dawson’s creek bullshit….before redefining herself as a weirdo wife and mother committed to an even bigger weirdo…here are the pics…of some alien hotness….
