’30 Minutes Or Less’ Stars Call Car Chases ‘Easy’ At MTV’s Sneak Peek Week

Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson share their action-hero dreams at Q&A session. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson Photo: MTV News WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — The bar was set super high Friday night (June 3) during MTV’s final Sneak Peek Week screening. Since Monday, we’d been showing early looks at some of the summer’s hottest films and having crazy chats with the various casts. Take, for instance, the moment “Horrible Bosses” star Jason Sudeikis launched into a filthily hilarious explanation of the “The Twilight Saga” : the vampire story as told by a “Star Wars”-obsessed, mind-in-the-gutter comedian. The pressure was on Friday, and the guys from “30 Minutes or Less” — stars Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson and director Reuben Fleischer — were more than up to the task. Their upcoming action/comedy, it should be said, served as quite the warm-up act for the crowd at the Pacific Design Center. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a beer-guzzling, joint-sucking pizza delivery boy who gets sucked into a harebrained scheme, hatched by slackers played by Danny McBride and Swardson, to rob a bank. Eisenberg’s character, with a bomb strapped to his chest and only hours to complete the heist, enlists his pal, a teacher played by Ansari, to help out in the crime. Things do not go very well, to hilarious results. The part represents Ansari’s biggest onscreen role to date. “This is the first time I’ve been around the whole movie,” he said. “Usually I’ll be around for a few minutes, and then they’re like, ‘Just say something about your penis and get out of here!’ ” It was all new for Swardson, too, who cracked that perhaps he has the makings of an action-hero career. “Maybe I’ll be the Predator!” Is launching such a career as easy as that? According to Ansari, at least, the car-chase portion of action flicks is a breeze. “Car chases are pretty easy,” he said. “You’re like, ‘Oooohhhhhhh!’ OK, let’s get another one. ‘Whooooooooa! Look out!’ ” On second thought, though, maybe these guys aren’t cut out to inherent the cinematic thrones of Stallone and Schwarzenegger. It just takes so damn long to shoot one of these flicks, Ansari said. After production wrapped on “30 Minutes,” he added, “I watched ‘Fast Five,’ and I was like, ‘How did this movie not take 20 years to make? Did Vin Diesel start making this when he was 5?’ ” Though Eisenberg and McBride couldn’t make the Q&A, the duo did tape a message for the crowd. “I sent my family a similar taped message at Thanksgiving,” McBride confessed. Said Eisenberg, “We hope you liked the movie. But if you didn’t, by this point it’s on you, because you’re still there.” As the laughter rolled in, no one seemed to be complaining about spending their Friday night at Sneak Peek Week. ‘He looks like Spider-Man,’ says the actress, who plays the superhero’s love interest, Gwen Stacy, in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’ By Jocelyn Vena Bryce Dallas Howard and Emma Stone Photo: MTV News It’s not often that two actresses who have appeared alongside one another in one movie have also played the same role in separate films at different times in their respective careers, but that’s just the case with “The Help” co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Emma Stone. When MTV News caught up with the ladies before the Q&A session, we just had to ask Stone what it was like to see the new Spidey, Andrew Garfield, all decked out in his webbed spandex best. “He looks like Spider-Man, ya know?” she shared. “It’s pretty exciting.” Howard also gave her thumbs-up to the latest Spider-Man. “I saw Andrew in a leaked photo,” she said. “And he looked really good.” The former Gwen Stacy isn’t only excited about Garfield picking up where Tobey Maguire left off, but she’s given her blessing, quite enthusiastically, to Stone too. “I’m one of those people that goes online and reads gossip about movies, so pretty early on, there was some buzz,” Howard explained, adding that she visited Stone in her trailer on the set of “The Help” the minute she heard the casting news. “I was stoked.” Stone elaborated a bit more about her time on set as Stacy, sharing that she had a joyous time making “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which was directed by Marc Webb. “It was great; it was really wonderful,” she dished about shooting the film. “It’s something we both, for some reason, get to be a part of, which is wonderful.” Stick with MTV News all week as we gear up for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday with a Sneak Peek Week screening and live-stream Q&A session every night this week. Taylor Swift Is ‘A Pretty Normal Girl,’ Emma Stone Says

At the country/pop star’s urging, Stone talks about her secret baking skills during MTV’s Sneak Peek Week. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Stone Photo: MTV News Emma Stone and Taylor Swift are best gal pals. Stone has opened up about Swift in the past, revealing that the superstar “has such a sick sense of humor,” and when Stone sat down for a Q&A about “The Help” during MTV’s Sneak Peek Week , she divulged a bit more about their relationship. So is Stone digging Swift’s latest album, Speak Now ? “I am indeed. I was lucky enough to hear it pretty early on, so it’s so exciting for it to be out and own the songs instead of just be singing them [in my head],” she dished, sharing that just because Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world doesn’t mean she’s at all critical of her friends who can’t sing as well as her. “Taylor’s a pretty normal girl,” Stone said. ” … She’s not [like], ‘I am one of the world’s most popular singers.’ ” Stone’s kind words came shortly after an email was read to her from her superstar pal who wanted to know more about her love of baking. “I’ve been baking at least once a day,” she shared, revealing some of the sweet treats she’s been making the past few months. While she’s got some sweet skills when it comes to confections, when she attempts to bake for a large group, the results aren’t as delicious. “I made 60 biscuits once for a party,” she said. “They didn’t turn out so great, though. I think in bulk I’m a little subpar.” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. ‘X-Men: First Class’: Meet The Mutants

James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon and more of the film’s stars lead us through this new batch of X-Men. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Eric Ditzian James McAvoy in “X-Men: First Class” Photo: 20th Century Fox With “X-Men: First Class” being the fourth “X-Men” film released this decade, you might think you know a thing or two about our favorite friendly (and not-so-friendly) neighborhood mutants, but the latest installment of the franchise, out Friday (June 3), is here to prove you wrong. MTV News caught up with the stars of the summer blockbuster recently, and they were more than willing to clear up any preconceived notions we might have had about their characters. “Professor Charles Xavier, when we meet him, is actually Dr. Charles Xavier, but he becomes a professor during the course of the movie,” James McAvoy clarified. “His power is he can read, bend and manipulate your mind, and his relationship with Erik [a.k.a. Magneto] is probably the closest relationship he’s ever had.” “Erik Lehnsherr-slash-Magneto, he is ruthless, intelligent, charming and adaptable,” Michael Fassbender teased. Jennifer Lawrence explained how her character, Raven Darkholme/ Mystique, is connected to the two main men. “Magneto to her is kind of this iconic man that’s kind of the crush that she’s always had and she admires him very much. And Charles [Xavier] has always been like a brother to her,” Lawrence said. There are quite a few new characters to add to the mix as well, most notably Kevin Bacon as bad guy Sebastian Shaw, the head of the Hellfire Club. “My power is to be able to absorb energy and harness it and throw it back at whoever is trying to use that energy against me,” Bacon explained to MTV. Then there’s Emma Frost, played by January Jones, who is Shaw’s right-hand woman. “Her powers are twofold,” Jones explained. “She has the mental capacity to read minds or control them, and then also, physically, she can change into a diamond form, which makes her physically indestructible.” Some other new characters are Zoe Kravitz’s Angel Salvadore, a go-go dancer who is able to sprout wings, and Lucas Till’s Havoc, a liability who has no control over the beams he can sprout from his body. You can bet there are plenty more mutants that join the first class, but you’ll have to meet them on your own in theaters now. Emma Stone And Bryce Dallas Howard Bond Over ‘Spider-Man’ Role

New Gwen Stacy says ‘it was pretty great to be together’ on ‘The Help’ set when she learned the casting news. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Emma Stone Photo: MTV News WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — In a weird twist of fate, Emma Stone found out she’d be playing Gwen Stacy in the latest installment of “Spider-Man” while on the set of “The Help” co-starring the previous franchise’s Gwen, Bryce Dallas Howard. “I found out while I was on set of ‘The Help,’ ” she said about the Andrew Garfield-starring “Amazing Spider-Man” during “The Help” Q&A session for MTV’s Sneak Peek Week. “It was pretty great to be together for that.” Howard said she was almost as excited about the casting as Stone was. “Representing as redheads!” she proclaimed onstage in front of an excited crowd at the Pacific Design Center. “I’m one of those people that goes online and reads gossip about movies, so pretty early on, there was some buzz,” she said, adding that she stormed into Stone’s trailer the minute she heard the news. “I was stoked.” With so much buzz about the new “Spider-Man” film, it seems that Stone will be just as surprised as fans to see the flick. “I’ve seen nothing, I promise. I’ve seen small action sequences for the 3-D, and it looked terrible,” she joked. “I really haven’t seen [anything].” So what did Stone do to research the role of Gwen — besides leaning on Howard for her first-hand account, of course. “I read a pretty comprehensive ‘Death of the Stacys’ book … and it’s a really amazing book to learn the story of Captain Stacy and Gwen Stacy,” she said. “And I’ve read a various amount of comics.” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? Robert Pattinson Should Host ‘SNL,’ Jason Sudeikis Says

‘We got you, buddy,’ MTV Movie Awards host promises. ‘You’ll be fine.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Sudeikis Photo: MTV News Fans would love to see MTV Movie Award nominee and “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson take a stab at hosting “Saturday Night Live.” Well, maybe when “SNL” castmember Jason Sudeikis hosts the Movie Awards this Sunday, he can convince the British heartthrob to come on the show next season. “I think anybody should host [‘SNL’] if it’s something they want to do. Just give it a shot!” Sudeikis told MTV News just steps away from the Gibson Amphitheatre, where the 2011 MTV Movie Awards will be taking place Sunday. “We’re certainly a safe place, a safe haven.” Sudeikis even had some encouraging words for the potential host: “We got you, buddy. You’ll be fine. Hold on to me tightly. We’ll take you through the forest of ‘SNL.’ ” As far as he can remember, Sudeikis has yet to introduce himself to Pattinson. Though he might have met him already — unless that person was actually the star of “Dexter.” “I think I met him in the evening of the Emmys, but at the after-after-afterparty,” he recalled. “So it may have been Michael C. Hall. They may have both been there. But no, it’ll be nice to see him. He’s never hosted ‘SNL.’ Him or Kristen [Stewart]. And Kristen I got to meet during the promos , but Robert I haven’t met yet.” In that promo, Sudeikis gives Stewart a haircut, but we’re not sure fans would be as comfortable watching the Movie Awards host chop off Pattinson’s famous locks.
