NBA “All-Stars” Weekend may not necessarily refer to the musicians present, but it might as well! Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Muppets Light Up Grammy Stage

Lady Killer crooner teams with puppets and Oscar-winner for psychedelic performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cee Lo performs during the 53rd annual Grammy Awards Photo: The Recording Academy/CBS We knew that Cee Lo’s Grammy performance would be “weird and cool,” and the throwback MC delivered a dollop of campy whimsy to his stage takeover by teaming up with a slew of colorful, amped-up Muppets and inviting Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow for the ride. Fresh from a Grammy win earlier in the night for Best Urban/ Alternative Performance, the Lady Killer crooner held court on a space-age set populated with alien-like Muppets and cartoony rockets sporting “Cee Lo” on the sides. Groovy extraterrestrial puppets, including a creature with a detached brain and a drummer with unruly rods snaking from its head, bopped along in the background as Cee Lo worked a grand piano for “Forget You” in an extravagant jumpsuit replete with red, blue and yellow feathers and a glittery headpiece recalling Elton John in his psychedelic heyday. (Check out photos of Cee-Lo and all the other Grammy performances from this year’s show.) Rocking a much more subdued catsuit (also recalling the disco era with its plunging neckline), Gwyneth Paltrow ascended down the stairs for the second verse, marking the first time the pair have publicly performed Cee Lo’s smash — Paltrow revamped it on “Glee” — together. The Oscar-winning actress joined in the loopy fun, bellowing, “I really hate your hate your ass right now” at the Goodie Mob alum. Then the star swung onto the piano for the bridge and she and Cee Lo belted the whiny “Why!” cries. The Gnarls Barkley frontman stood up and Paltrow stood on the piano as the pair and their puppet friends rode out the rest of the song. MTV News got some inside information about the performance just days before Cee Lo, Paltrow and their puppet posse worked the stage. Jim Henson Company CEO Brian Henson said the set was inspired by the marionette mob’s recent theater turn. “We have a live theater show in New York called ‘Stuffed and Unstrung,’ and we’ve taken a bunch of the characters from that cast and made them into a band and backup singers for Cee Lo,” Henson said of the fuzzy puppets from the made-for-grown-ups improv show. “He’ll be backed by puppets who will make up a very weird and cool band.” Henson said the idea to sing with the puppets came from Cee Lo, who approached the Henson Company with a concept of what he wanted to do. “We had never worked with him before, and he’s just a fabulous guy,” Henson said. “I think he’s a lifelong fan of the Muppets, and he had a pretty good idea of what he wanted.” What did you think of Cee Lo’s Grammy performance? Enough, Already, About Jason Segel’s Version of The Muppets

This is the type of post that you’ll scoff at simply as another example of us Movieline haters trying to hate. I assure you, though: It’s not. I am not a hater. (In this case.) I love, love, love Jason Segel — the man is a comic wizard, who is also capable of playing poignant, touching drama, and playing it well; see the last two episodes of How I Met Your Mother , or a lot of the downcast parts of Forgetting Sarah Marshall , for reference. I love that Jason Segel loves the Muppets — so much that he cried when he met Kermit . I love the Muppets! Especially The Muppets Take Manhattan , which includes the perfect amount of melancholy, whimsy and song. That said: Enough, already, about The Muppets .

Will.i.am Remembers Knowing ‘All’ The ‘Sesame Street’ Songs

Now the BEP frontman gets to perform his ‘ What I Am’ for the show’s season premiere, September 27. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Tim Kash Will.I.Am on the set of “Sesame Street” Photo: MTV News Will.i.am made quite an impression on the music world when he performed with Nicki Minaj during the pre-show of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and he’s about to make waves among an entirely different audience soon. His new song “What I Am,” which he performed for “Sesame Street,” just premiered online , and the track will also be featured on the show’s season premiere on September 27. Flanked by an army of “Sesame Street” all-stars (including Big Bird, Elmo, Grover and Cookie Monster), Will croons an inspiration track about being yourself, setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals. The video segment was recorded back in November, and MTV News was there to catch up with Will (and Grover). “The song is called ‘What I Am,’ and it’s about making goals and working hard to achieve them,” Will told MTV News. He was especially honored to be on the set of “Sesame Street” and working with some of the Muppets who gave him his early education. “You have to understand: I was like 4 or 5 years old, and I always wanted to watch ‘Sesame Street,’ ” he said. “Grover helped me learn about numbers and about the alphabet, and I used to know all the songs.” He had a fan in Grover, who insisted he liked the Black Eyed Peas, as well as “carrots, broccoli, all those vegetables.” Grover later taught will a few dance moves while the producer provided beatbox backup. Will represents the first in a series of high-profile guest appearances on the 41st season of “Sesame Street,” including Katy Perry, Usher, Jude Law, Ryan Reynolds, Kara DioGuardi, Reggie Bush and Zoe Saldana. Will Splice Finally Make the World Safe for Adorable Plush Mutant Dolls?

We all know what the Muppets did for Joe Biden , but what might a wincingly cute monster doll do for the new thriller Splice ? How about making it the most adorable bloodthirsty genetic freak in movie history? Seriously, as evinced by actress Delphine Chanéac at this week’s Los Angeles premiere, nothing beats a well-placed plush mutant — particularly one that grows up to become perhaps a little too intimate with its creators/default parents. Even Robert Downey Jr. showed up, and he was the second cuddliest creature on the carpet. OK — third cuddliest, after Joel Silver and Dren the Plush Monster. Where’s mine, Warners? [ IMDB ]

Muppet Entourage Manages to Make Even Joe Biden Look Adorable

Vice president Joe Biden and his wife Jill were the guests of honor at Wednesday night’s eighth annual Sesame Workshop Gala, where the couple was recognized for their efforts on behalf of military families. The event raised $2.2 million for the organization, no doubt aided by its “‘huge’ surprise when Snuffleupagus made a rare public appearance.” I hope Biden’s microphone was off; you know how emotional he can get over big f***ing deals .
