Be Like Bond: Celebs At Everything Or Nothing Premiere Reveal What 007 Has Taught Them

Onetime Bond girl Carey Lowell and Bond villain Robert Davi — respectively, Pam Bouvier and Franz Sanchez from Licence to Kill  — were among the celebrities who came out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of James Bond at the EPIX and Vanity Fair -hosted premiere of Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 on Wednesday night in New York. Mr. Big was also there — not Yaphet Kotto from Live and Let Die , but rather Chris Noth from another die-hard franchise, Sex and the City . “In the history of cinema, there is no experience like a Bond film,” Davi declared at the Museum of Modern Art, where the documentary screened. The film’s director Stevan Riley explained that his motivation for making Everything or Nothing was his interest in answering the question: “How did Bond last these 50 years? No other film series has managed to do that. Not continuously, for sure.”   (TV viewers can learn the answers Riley uncovered when the documentary premieres on EPIX on Friday, which has been dubbed Global James Bond Day in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the theatrical premiere of the first Bond film, Dr. No , in 1962.) Movieline had its own secret agenda for being there of course, and through the evening, which continued at the very Upper East Side Metropolitan Club, I asked guests a series of Bond-related questions.  Here are their answers.   What wisdom or life lessons have you picked up from the James Bond movies? Chris Noth , actor (pictured left):   ” Always be careful when you go to sleep that there’s not a tarantula under your pillow.” Carey Lowell , actress, former Bond girl: “Always put your shoulders back and carry a gun on your thigh.” Chace Crawford , actor: “I learned how to carry the Walther PPK with a silencer on it. You always have to have a silencer, apparently. [Laughs] No, I learned how to make a martini. I can make a Vesper Martini and a dirty martini very well.” Robert Buckley , actor: “You always look infinitely better in a suit. People will think you’re much more interesting and charming when you have an accent. And, if you’re going to walk out of the ocean in slow motion, do it in short shorts.” Fern Mallis, fashion and design consultant: “Absolutely everyone is replaceable. Even James Bond.” Kate Upton , model and actress: [Laughs] “What life lessons?” Gloria Reuben , actress and singer: “How to ski down a hill while looking fantastic.” Theophilus London , rapper: “Just be super smooth, be quiet and you’ll get all the babes.” Cameron Winklevoss , entrepreneur: “If you have an accent, a fast car and a great suit, you can do just about anything.” Carlos Campos , fashion designer: “Never give up!” Nary Manivong , fashion designer: “There’s always a mission.” Chace Crawford Who’s your favorite Bond girl? Chris Noth:  “Ursula Andress,  because she’s gorgeous ! She came out of the water like a mermaid.” Chace Crawford:  “There are so many good ones! Octopussy . It was the first one I saw. And [the girl in] Goldfinger . Damn . I did like Eva Green, too.” Robert Buckley:   “Halle Berry. I suddenly stopped caring about the nuclear weapon and just cared about what she was doing in that movie. I lost focus. I was like, James who ? That is a Bond girl.” Jeffrey Wright , actor: “Ursula Andress is tough to beat. Grace Jones is sort of an unorthodox Bond girl. She wasn’t exactly a Bond girl, more of a villainess. Eva Green I thought was stunning and breathed a new type of life into it and a new type of intelligence into it. But, I’m not going to restrict myself in that regard. I’ll enjoy them all.” Carey Lowell Who’s your favorite Bond villain? Robert Davi , actor and former Bond villain: “I’m considered one of the top five Bond villains. I think there are 22 films. That’s pretty damn good.” Stevan Riley , director of Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 :  “Everyone loves Goldfinger and [Ernst Stavro] Blofeld’s character Donald Pleasance. You know, I really like Mads Mikkelsen’s portrayal of Le Chiffre in Casino Royale .” Carey Lowell: ” The villains kind of come and go. I just remember James Bond. And Daniel Craig is a very good Bond. Sexy and skilled, shall we say.” Shaken, Stirred… or Heineken? Robert Davi:  “Jack Daniels. Two fingers of Jack, ice cubes, the rest water.” Jeffrey Wright: “Preferably not a shaken or stirred Heineken . You can’t beat a nice Bond Vesper Martini. Hilary Saltzman , daughter of Bond film producer Harry Saltzman: “Shaken, stirred.” Nell Alk is an arts and entertainment writer and reporter based in New York City. Kate Upton: Future Bond Girl?

Here’s everybody’s favorite hottie Kate Upton at the Museum of Modern Art for Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 . Looks like somebody might be auditioning to become the next Bond girl. And if so, I’m all for it. I’ve even got the perfect plot: Bond meets Kate while infiltrating a topless beach. Now she just needs a good Bond girl name. Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar Tapped To Direct Big Studio Sequel

The good news: Jay Chandrasekhar , founding member of Broken Lizard and frequent helmer of the comedy troupe’s major motion picture outings, including Super Troopers , Beerfest , and the not-technically-Broken Lizard The Babymakers , has landed his biggest studio gig to date! The less exciting news: It’s Yogi Bear 2 . Well now, let’s give this a chance. Deadline reports Chandrasekhar’s hire: “The sequel is being produced by Donald Deline and Karen Rosenfelt. The Eric Brevig-directed 2010 film grossed just over $200 million worldwide.” Remember, it’s a hit property! A good move for Chandrasekhar, in theory. Maybe he can work a little blue comedy into the PG (for “mild rude humor”) franchise. I know every Broken Lizard fan out there would love nothing more than for the guys to keep making Broken Lizard movies, and maybe someday get around to doing Super Troopers 2 , already. But these dudes are indie artists at their core, and sometimes you’ve got to do a Dukes of Hazzard or a Yogi Bear 2 to keep the machine going. (And admittedly, Yogi Bear was more harmless than offensively dumb as these kiddie pics go.) Consider Yogi Bear 2 : Jay Chandrasekhar as Night at the Museum : Tom Lennon and Ben Garant and let’s just keep our fingers crossed that Kevin Heffernan gets a cameo as a goofy Jellystone Park ranger tangling with Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake’s voices, which ought to be enough to keep the BL flame going. Samuel L. Jackson Goes For Prose In New Pro-Obama Video, Wake The F*** Up

Full disclosure right off the bat here, some die-hard Romney fans and those with hyper-sensitivity to the F-Bomb and haters of politics generally may not want to proceed, so if you do, go at your own peril. A tidy little vid starring Barack supporter-extraordinaire Samuel L. Jackson has hit the internet, and though a tad longer than the typical 30 second political spot flooding the airwaves in this election season, it is quite a bit more clever and funnier – though it helps if you’re a supporter of the incumbent, naturally. And while it is unabashedly supportive of Obama, the prez does not come in and say he “supports this message” like in most other political ads. In this version, Jackson invades a home of a quiet suburban family of lackadaisical Obama ’08 supporters to tell them to, “Wake the F**** Up.” The three-minute, forty-second video is sponsored by the Jewish Council for Education and Research and is a riff on a reading the Oscar-nominated actor did last year of a satirical “children’s book” called Go the F*** to Sleep , a charming little diddy that went viral. The book’s author, Adam Mansbach also wrote the script for the pro-Obama version of the story, which opens with a young girl who lies awake in her bed fretting that her complacent family will sleep the election away, when just four years ago they were taking to the streets. The video premiered on Yahoo! Little Suzie gets out of bed, but not far from sight is her political ally in-waiting with political rhymes and a final “Wake the F*** Up” as she traipses through her house encountering her listless family members. First off, she goes to her parents who are falling asleep watching TV in the living room. And like an angel, Jackson appears with a riddle urging little Suzie’s parents to get involved. Next she heads into her older brother’s room, who is sitting with his feet up on his desk. Suzie blasts her brother saying that the election is about their future and recalls how he was on the front lines in ’08. Her brother replies that all politicians are “the same” and like magic again, Jackson appears giving a friendly warning that goes something like this: “They’re all the same? Please! Obama’s sent SEALS to Bin Laden’s place, Romney sent jobs overseas. And how about that student loan overhaul? It’s going to save you thousands of bucks. Mitt will cut that sh** in a second. Hey dude, Wake the F*** Up!” Next she heads to her older sister’s room with more prose about planned parenthood etc., Jackson appears, gives his two cents with another riddle and another, “Wake the F*** Up!” And finally, it’s off to grandma and grandpa’s room who are, incidentally, proving that older folks do have good times, until they’re interrupted by you know who… Medicare is the big theme here, naturally, and one more “Wake the F*** Up!” [Source: Yahoo! WATCH: Everything Is Connected − Including These Three TV Spots From The Very Cool Looking Cloud Atlas

It’s a good fall for ambitious movies. In the wake of the September release of Paul Thomas Anderson ‘s The Master , Warner Bros will open Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski siblings’  Cloud Atlas to theaters on Oct. 26, and a trio of TV spots has begun building awareness of the film adaptation of David Mitchell’s 2004 novel.  Check out the clips after the jump and stay tuned for Jen Yamato’s upcoming report on the film’s debut at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX on Wednesday night.  Mitchell’s story featured six interconnected stories that spanned from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic future. Judging from the TV spots, which feature Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugo Weaving, among other cast members, Tykwer ( Run, Lola, Run ) and the Wachowskis have remained true to the book’s central themes about the cyclical nature of life and the universality of human nature. Cloud Atlas, Lana & Andy Wachowski Score Standing Ovation At Secret Fantastic Fest Debut

“ What is an ocean but a multitude of drops? ” The affecting spirit of Cloud Atlas was palpable last night as Fantastic Fest unveiled its second Secret Screening — the ambitious sci-fi adaptation — with Lana and Andy Wachowski (“Formerly the Wachowski brothers, now Wachowski Starship,” quipped Andy) making a rare public appearance. The Wachowskis, who wrote and directed the ensemble epic with Tom Tykwer ( Run Lola Run ), are notoriously press shy . But Cloud Atlas , adapted from David Mitchell’s novel about humanity, interconnectivity, transformation and free will, is much more a personal mission statement than their last few Matrix hits and the typically daring Fantastic Fest crowd made for a perfect fit, anointing Cloud Atlas with an also-rare post-screening standing ovation. Following an unprecedented structure, Cloud Atlas flits back and forth between six disparate stories of characters in different eras and lands, each story connected by a thread — a journal, a piece of music, a collection of handwritten letters, an oral history — the same actors (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Yhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, and Susan Sarandon) playing multiple characters throughout. In any given minute Cloud Atlas may jump from a mercantile ship circa 1849 to 1936 Europe, 1973 San Francisco, futuristic Neo Seoul, present-day England, or a remote village “106 winters after The Fall.” Lana, speaking after the screening, described the story’s structure akin to skipping stones — “only it’s a narrative structure that skipped pieces.” In today’s world of self-inflicted multimedia ADD, as we divide our attentions between cell phones and texts and television and the constant din, however, doing a bit of brain-juggling to sort it all out should only be easier. Still, the cumulative effect may prove disorienting to some viewers, particularly since some characters’ motivation can get lost in the sprawl. (The original script ran 275 pages, according to Andy Wachowski: “The book is so rich that we had a lot of dead babies in the end.”) But where Cloud Atlas soars is in its emotional richness and stirring sentimentality; it’s a challenging film that asks a lot of its audience but wears its heart on its sleeve, swelling with genuine humanity and a deceptively simple provocation: Will you allow yourself to be changed by the love and kindness of another? The Wachowskis and Tykwer add to Mitchell’s text the use of multiple actors in multiple roles, often obscured via makeup and prosthetics, and frequently (controversially) transformed into other races and ethnicities. Hanks’s alter egos as a British thug with a terrible accent and later (or rather, earlier) a ginger-haired, knob-nosed 19th century doctor test the limits of believability. But Sturgess, transformed via prosthetics as a 22nd century Korean freedom fighter, is actually quite wonderful; disappearing into the role beneath his “Asian” face, Sturgess does some of his finest work to date and “transforms” into a bona fide action star in the Neo Seoul segment’s Matrix -esque action sequences. The race issue is just the opposite in Cloud Atlas — whites plays Asian, Asians play latina, men play women (and when it’s Hugo Weaving as a Nurse Ratched type, boy, whatta woman). And it’s not just exterior boundaries that get toyed with; Cloud Atlas ‘s movie stars play background parts in various segments, too. That Korean actress Doona Bae — a force to be reckoned with as the futuristic “fabricant” Sonmi-451, a clone with soul and a Joan of Arc haircut — steals so much of the film is an acting coup and a stroke of meta-storytelling genius. Cloud Atlas also soars on its hauntingly evocative score by Twyker, who wrote the film’s music and key themes before filming began. The Wachowskis’ minds were blown by the process, and they described it as akin to discovering the world was not, in fact, flat. “We’ll never go back,” they said. “[Now] we’re round-earthers.” Read more on Cloud Atlas , in theaters October 26. I have always been waiting for the day I can write a Bieber…

I have always been waiting for the day I can write a Bieber experience. I’ve seen Justin in concert before, but I was never very close. Every time I tried to meet him I was told he came out 5 minutes earlier. I was constantly disappointed and I was ready to give up. Every time Justin comes to New York, I travel from CT to try to meet him. It was never even close to successful until this time. One day, I got an email telling me I won 5 tickets to see Justin on 106&Park. I didn’t remember entering, so I called the studio to make sure it was all legit. I get to the studio very early. It was so hot, I didn’t think I was going to make it. The workers wouldn’t let me sit down, even though I was seconds from passing out. They finally let us inside and I just made it to a chair. It was nicer inside and I started to feel better. They first told us the rules and brought us to the set. We were told Justin wasn’t there and this was a wraparound show. I’m pretty sure everyone in there was worried. We didn’t come here to just be on the show, we wanted Justin obviously. They came around and gave us anther wristband to show that we can come back to see Justin. That show started and Justin finally came out. I hadn’t seen him in so long, I couldn’t believe it. He did the short interview and then took pictures with some workers and left. We were ready for the show to continue but Justin came back. He went around each section to shake everyones hands and give hugs. I had never been this close to Justin before. I was lucky to be on the edge of the bleachers so I got a hug. After he left, my friends and I couldn’t help but cry. We waited 3 years for this moment. Watching the show back, they showed us crying, it was pretty funny! I wish I could have stayed and tried to meet Justin in the city, but it was such a hot day, I couldn’t handle it. The previous day I noticed a contest on BieberFever to see Justin on Fuse TV. This seemed so awesome. I got an email saying I was on the list! I got there so early the day after 106&Park. I was the first one there for Justin at the museum. We went to the entrance we were told to go to and they said we can wait at the door. We waited an hour and we noticed there wasn’t a line, just two of us. We walked around and then we found the line, and it was long. We explained to security what happened and they didn’t believe us and we were stuck at the end, even though we should have been first. I was so upset, but I got over it because I was still there seeing Justin. They finally let us in and so many people were ahead of me through the museum and through contests. My friend and I ended up being the last 2 to get seats, THANK GOODNESS. Justin came out and the interview was amazing. I kept getting his attention and I was happier than ever. He was so down to earth and funny. At one point during a commercial, I asked for a hug. Justin gave me a look trying to say he can’t right now, but in a super nice way because then they were about to be fixing his makeup and stuff like that. Right when we all thought the show was over, Justin stood up, and so did I. I stood up with open arms and he came right to me and hugged me. It was so much better than the first time because it wasn’t just a one arm hug, it was legit. I told myself that even though I didn’t have a picture with Justin this was the next best thing. The show premiered on July 21st. I watched and I saw myself the whole time right on the side of Justin. I figured it wouldn’t be, but at the end they zoomed in on Justin hugging me . It was amazing to be able to have a picture hugging Justin, even though it’s kinda blurry. I guess everything that day happened for a reason. If I had my rightful spot in line, I would have been in a different seat, possibly not as close. I’m so grateful for everything that happened that week.  -@amandamurph See the rest here: I have always been waiting for the day I can write a Bieber…

My name is Alice, I’m 16 turning 17 and I live in Brisbane,…

My name is Alice, I’m 16 turning 17 and I live in Brisbane, Australia. Let me start by saying I’ve never won any amazing prizes before. Before this event, I was convinced I had the worst luck ever. On 26 th June, 2012, I received an email informing me that I had won a Meet and Greet with Justin .   I couldn’t believe it, so I called Universal Music to double check and when JB Hi-Fi announced it on their Twitter, that’s when it hit me. Finally I was  going to meet my idol after dreaming (literally) about meeting him countless times!  Days and nights of excitement and joy passed by and the 17 th  of July, 2012 finally arrived. I boarded the plane to Sydney knowing I was meeting my idol in a few hours.  After checking in at the hotel, my sister and I went to the meet up location for the secret show Channel V was hosting. I met so many amazing beliebers there, like Marie and Amelia (@BornToSing17); we were all so excited, people were crying, screaming and hyperventilating. After what seemed like forever, we collected our wristbands and got driven to the secret location.  When Justin came on stage, I kept thinking “IS THIS REAL LIFE? IS THAT REALLY JUSTIN BIEBER?” He performed Baby, ALAYLM, Die In Your Arms, AATW, Be Alright, Boyfriend (Bluesy version) and Catching feelin gs for the first time ever live!  I remember crying when he sang “Be Alright,” it’s my favourite song from the album and I couldn’t believe I was hearing Justin sing it live, less than 2 meters away  from me . All I can say is that losing my voice was so worth it. Justin sounded  absolutely  amazing and Dan  played the guitar perfectly.  After the show, the majority of the crowd had to leave and people with blue wristbands were allowed to stay for the meet and greet. My heart dropped when they told us we couldn’t ask for any autographs and that we were only getting group photos taken. I felt so disappointed knowing that I couldn’t get an individual photo and that I won’t have any time to speak to Justin. But our time came, I ran up to him and  he gave me the best hug ever. He said to me something along the lines of, “H ey sweetie, how are you?” and “It’s a pleasure to meet you” I couldn’t even respond to him because everyone was rushing, but  he had his arms around me  for the photo and it was the most amazing 30 seconds of my life. Everything was  really  rushed so I quickly got another hug before security told us we had to leave. I finally understand why so many beliebers say that he gives the best hugs ever. The next morning, we went to see Justin perform on Sunrise at 5am which was also perfect.  He smelt amazing, looked flawless, sounded perfect and was just so, so sweet. You can tell he was genuinely happy to be there for his beliebers. I still can’t believe I was physically next to Justin jus t yesterday, b ut what can I say.. Never Say Never, right? For those who have yet to meet him, just dream big and believe; I promise you’ll meet him one day and it’s going to be worth the wait.  And Justin, if you’re reading this, I hope you read my letter (all the beliebers gave everything to the girl collecting gifts when we were in line for the m&g!) and I promise I’ll be there when you come back to Australia for BELIEVE.  Words cannot describe how much I love you and how much you mean to me , but thank you so much for everything; you made the 17 th  of July the best day of my life so far. Thank you for existing, haha.  Much love! -@xalicehuang Continue reading here: My name is Alice, I’m 16 turning 17 and I live in Brisbane,…
