Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Alicia Keys Is Hosting The Grammy Awards This Year Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys is set to host the 2019 Grammy Awards. The singer made the exciting announcement via her very own YouTube channel on Tuesday morning. She will be the first female host of the show in 14 years. “I’m soooo EXCITED to announce that I’ll be hosting the 61st Annual Grammy Awards !! There’s so much in store and I CAN’T WAIT for y’all to see it ALL come to life ” she wrote in the caption of her video. Alicia Keys is only the fifth woman to ever host the Grammys in the show’s 61 year span, and on top of that, she’s only the third woman of color. This gig will also make the first woman to host the show in 14 years, following Queen Latifah in 2005, Rosie O’Donnell in 2000 and 1999, Ellen DeGeneres in 1997 and 1996, and Whoopi Goldberg in 1992. The choice to have a woman host this year is important for the show, especially after controversy during last year’s program. At last year’s Grammys, only six women were nominated in the show’s major categories, and Alessia Cara was the only woman to receive an award during the entire televised portion of the show. Along with the announcement of Keys as 2019’s host, 15 women are nominated in the top four categories this year, compared to only six in 2018. Congrats to Alicia Keys!

Basically, Infinity is a foster child who hates the care she’s in and often runs away so Yandy decides to take her in. However, Jonathan makes the great point that if Yandy is fostering a minor without permission then she’s breaking the law. Hold that thought. Meanwhile, Safaree reveals that he signed a 7-figure deal with a sex toy company. They want to make a mold of his infamous anaconda . We’ve all seen it. Don’t act like you didn’t. Anyway, now people will get to experience it for themselves for about $100. Safaree’s issue is that people—aka Rich Dollaz and Papoose are telling him not to do it because people won’t take him seriously as an artist. Safari already signed the contract though. Too late. Remy Ma obliges Joe Budden’s request to chat with Cyn. Joe wants Remy to encourage Cyn to get help with her Postpartum depression because Remy dealt with it too, with her first son. They actually end up talking about how Cyn can create a schedule with Joe Budden so that they can spend more time together. Cyn meets with Joe later on and says Remy gave her new perspective. She shares her proposal for them to spend a Sunday every two weeks together and Joe gets even more frustrated because he wanted her to come up with a game plan for her postpartum depression situation. Cyn says she has been helping herself and doesn’t need to meet with doctors to get pills. Lordt. Nya Lee meets up with Sidney Starr to give her a makeover. You remember this is part of the whole artist development schtick. Sidney doesn’t take too kindly to her wardrobe being criticized because she says this is a sensitive topic for a transgender woman. Then Jacque comes through for more development and asks Sidney to kick some bars since Nya gave her some pointers. Sidney raps and bombs, but in her defense, she’s already upset by Nya’s makeover. IN the end, Nya tells Sidney she better get thicker skin and stop being ungrateful. Sidney sucks it up and actually tries on a dress Nya wanted her to try and she looks good. Finally, the episode concludes with Yandy’s foster runaway situation. Yandy found out from Infinity’s caseworker that she could get her own children taken away because what she’s doing is breaking the law. You have to go through a bureaucratic approval process for a child like Infinity to stay with you and Yandy didn’t do that. Now she has to tell Infinity that she has to leave for now, which is hard. Infinity obviously doesn’t take her well and breaks down in tears. But Yandy assures her that she’s not abandoning her and wants to figure things out. We know by now (thanks to #TheBlogs) that Yandy has adopted her. We’ll probably see that play out as the episodes progress. Let’s get back at it next. As much as love can get immaturely reduced to happy feelings, epic dates and lust, the fact is, the core of what makes the wheels of a relationship turn smoothly for year after year is meaningful communication and effort. While some techniques to communicate well are obvious (like, actually speaking up, not yelling while arguing, listening to listen versus listening to speak, etc), there are a couple of psychological techniques you can leverage to really make your relationship a safe haven for love. Email Submit Psychology Today writer, Ronald E. Riggio compiled a couple of psych strategies you can implement into your relationship that can make your bond even stronger. The Expectancy Effect What if you were daringly optimistic about what your partner could do and/or achieve? According to Riggio: “Holding positive expectations about your loved one (“You are a good person”; “I think you are fabulous”; “You will succeed”) can not only make them feel better, but make them perform better as well.” Norm Of Reciprocity When someone is nice to us, we are inspired to return that favor. By initiating a kind action that benefits your partner, you can motivate them to do the same. “The key is to keep the norm in positive territory – focusing on our loved one’s positive attributes and behavior,” Riggio explains. ” Compliment, perform some favor, help out with some chore – and you will usually receive something positive in return.” Forgiveness This may sound biblical, but we must forgive so that we can be forgiven. No one is perfect, and extending space to make mistakes can keep you both from walking on egg shells. Riggio explains that, “When your partner transgresses, it is important to maintain the relationship that you forgive. We all make mistakes, and by showing forgiveness, we can model how to begin to repair fractured relationships.” Unconditional Positive Regard Unconditional positive regard asks a partner to be fully accepting and supportive of your loved on regardless of their background, experiences, or the imperfect way they phrase things. This one is a little difficult, and requires a world of trust, but if mastered, it can be a beautiful thing. “You need to suspend your own feelings and opinions, and just value the other individual. Over time, demonstrating unconditional positive regard should be returned by your partner,” Riggio recommends. Of course, you don’t want to do this to the extent that it harms you, or them, but giving space to let humans be flawed humans is necessary. Empathetic Listening When someone vents to us we always want to chime in, suggest or offer advice. Empathetic listening requires that we just sit still and feel what they are saying deeply. “One difficulty is our tendency to want to say something – to offer advice or make suggestions – but it is important to focus simply on gaining understanding of our partner’s emotions and concerns, and to demonstrate that we understand their feelings,” Riggio says. Just to be clear, Kanye West does not think it’s okay to have sex with underage women. But the controversial rapper does seem to think it’s okay to keep buying albums by artists accused of having sex with underage women. Heck, he basically encourages it! On Sunday, West took to his Instagram story and said the following: “They want art from the artist. But, anytime they do anything erratic, they just gonna pull up the full documentaries on him.” Full documentaries , huh? This certainly seems to be an allusion to R. Kelly because Lifetime aired a six-part documentary last week titled Surviving R. Kelly that detailed all the alleged sexual relationships he carried on with young teenage women over the years. The testimony from these women in the series is haunting. John Legend, who was interviewed for the special, has referred to R. Kelly as a “serial child rapist” on Twitter. This is an accusation that is hard to argue with after you read about what R. Kelly reportedly did with Aaliyah , for example. Years ago, a sex tape surfaced in which the long-time singer urinates on a 14-year old partner. And yet… fans have continued to buy his music and popular culture has mostly continued to support Kelly. Thankfully, the tide may finally be turning against the monster that is R. Kelly, as a #MuteRKelly has been gaining momentum on social media. In his diatribe over the weekend, it very much sounds as if Kanye is talking directly about this movement when he said: “They gonna come with the Michael documentary. We can enjoy all their music all we want.” Here, West is bringing up Michael Jackson. For the most part, his songs remain as iconic and beloved as ever — but this legendary artist has also been accused of inappropriate sexual behavior. Prior to his passing, Jackson had been under investigation on multiple occasions for allegedly touching little boys with whom he shared his bed. Does this mean his albums are off-limits? That’s a decision that can only be made by each indivdual listener. But it’s apparent West doesn’t think anyone’s sales numbers should be negatively affected by anyone’s actions, no matter how abhorrent they may be in the case of R. Kelly. UPDATE : Actually, no, this is not what Kanye meant, his wife has now claimed. Aware of the uproar over Kanye’s latest rant, the reality star has once again rushed to her man’s defense, Tweeting early on Monday: I’m going to nip this in the bud right now. Kanye was speaking about his own experience of everyone quick to say they are cancelling him because of differences in opinion & not being perfect. The analogies were in context to his own experiences, not defending anyone else. She then added: I want to make it very clear, he is not condoning anyone’s actions or unacceptable disgusting behavior. My husband’s words are being taken out of context due to timing. HA! Due to timing. Yes, because West purposely timed his remarks to coincide with the backlash against R. Kelly as the result of this documentary airing. Dude is totally responsible for his own words and his own timing. At some point, doesn’t Kim get tired of serving as Kanye’s interpreter? I t’s been over a century since the first Broadway musical written and performed by African Americans made its debut and there are still racial barriers being broken in theatre in this day and age. Actress Brittney Johnson recently made history as the first African American woman to take on the role of Glinda the Good Witch of the North in the play Wicked , ABC News reported. Johnson is humbled to play Glinda and says that stepping on stage to perform each show is something that’s bigger than herself. She hopes that her accomplishment inspires others to push forward and fulfill their dreams. “My heart is bursting with gratitude. God is so good! I am so humbled to be the first Black Glinda and honored to fulfill the dreams and hopes of so many! I feel like my feet have yet to touch down,” she told the news outlet. “The importance of this moment in history is only amplified by the message of this beautiful show: Love, friendship, and kindness are stronger than the fear of “otherness”. Love can break down barriers to change the world. I’m so grateful to the Wicked team for trusting me to tell this story.
