Source: Gene Sweeney Jr. / Getty Stephen Curry Gives A Young Girl Sneakers After Reading Her Letter Back in November, a man by the name of Chris Morrison shared a letter on his Twitter page, which was written by his 9-year old daughter Riley. In said letter, she asked Stephen Curry why the smaller sizes of his sneakers were specifically labeled boys’ on Under Armour’s website: “I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this, because girls want to rock the Curry 5s too,” she wrote. @EmmaWatson Hi Emma, I know you are a big advocate for women. I was hoping you could retweet my daughter’s letter to @StephenCurry30 . This is her small way of making a difference and speaking up for women. You are a role model for her. We both would be very thankful. pic.twitter.com/mYNRtPMXP0 — Chris Morrison (@Morn24) November 21, 2018 After he was made aware of the letter, Curry swiftly responded with a note of his own, promising Riley that he would not only work on changing the way his Under Armour sneakers were labeled, but also that he’d make sure she was among the first kids with pairs of his newest signature sneaker, the Under Armour Curry 6. He also told the 9-year-old that him and the Under Armour team are working on something special for International Women’s Day, and that Riley should plan on being in Oakland that night to celebrate. Appreciate you helping us get better Riley! We got you. #MoreToCome pic.twitter.com/UBoTklvwhg — Stephen Curry (@StephenCurry30) November 29, 2018 Riley’s dad posted a video on Christmas of his daughter opening up the sneakers from Steph, and better yet, Curry’s shoes are now listed under the men’s, women’s, boys’ and girls’ sections on Under Armour’s website.
Source: Jim McIsaac / Getty LeBron Walked Into Staples Center With His Own Glass Of Wine LeBron James’ first season as a Los Angeles Laker has been all about making boss moves, but this latest one really might take the cake. Since the baller injured his groin on Christmas day, the star has been making the absolute most of his time off after it was revealed that he would miss the next few games. He’s been using this time to tweet about his most anticipated movies, he won an award, and he even recruited some potential future teammates. But none of those actions showed just how much LeBron was enjoying his time off until last night, when King James decided to waltz into the Staples Center for the Lakers game while enjoying a nice glass of red wine. GOAT debate is officially over. This is next level. pic.twitter.com/n8vJUuZbnf — Chris Martin Palmer (@ChrisPalmerNBA) December 29, 2018 It should be said that we don’t ACTUALLY know that what’s in LeBron’s glass is wine…but it sure looks like that’s exactly what it is. Like we mentioned before, Bron wasn’t playing in the game last night due to his injury-so what’s wrong with a man relaxing with some vino as he watches his teammates play? Twitter had an absolute field day with this and the conversation ranged from James being the GOAT for this entrance to people concerned that he has a serious drinking problem and is disrespecting the NBA. LeBron walking in with a glass of wine is probably the sickest thing I’ve ever seen an injured guy do. — Lakers Insiders (@LALInsiders) December 29, 2018 This is disrespectful. @KingJames , you are not bigger than the NBA or the Lakers. I hope you don’t cry when you fall off the fake throne you built. This past year James made 8th consecutive trip to the NBA Finals, made business moves off the court producing content like The Shop for HBO, released his socio-political documentary about athletes, Shut Up And Dribble , on Showtime, and most importantly, saw the opening of the “I Promise” school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. For the third time, @KingJames is AP Male Athlete of the year as selected by AP members and editors. And all these kids I was able to see, all over the world and in my hometown, I was able to inspire, to make them think they can be so much more than what they think they’re capable of being. That was my outlook for 2018.” LeBron joins Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Lance Armstrong on a shortlist of men who have won the award at least three times with Woods and Armstrong winning four times each. Thank you “AP” for the award. Obviously this isn’t for me, it’s for all my @IPROMISESchool kids, kids all over the world and adults as well that allow me to talk for them, lead them, dream with them and inspire them every single day! Source: Julia Marie Burton / Bossip/Julia Marie Burton Bossip’s Exclusive Report From Michelle Obama’s Motown Museum Surprise Pop-Up BOSSIP was on-hand in Detroit, Michigan at the Motown Museum inside of Hitsville, USA when our forever FLOTUS Michelle Obama surprised a group of 18 male students of color from Wayne State for an event produced by her Reach Higher initiative. The young men believed that they were solely there to take part in a roundtable discussion about life, school and career paths with Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) and Mrs. Obama’s brother and NBA coach Craig Robinson. Source: Julia Marie Burton / Bossip/Julia Marie Burton The energy in the room was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced being that WE knew at any minute during the conversation, Michelle Obama was going to burst into the room and leave us and the students with our eyes wide, picking our jaws off the floor. It was a glorious moment. Yes, she really said “you know how I do” in response to the idea that this was a “boys only” meeting. God, we love this woman. Mrs. Obama was in the “D” as part of the nationwide Live Nation tour for her best-selling book Becoming , but she wanted to take the opportunity to speak specifically to a group of minority men for the first time and give them encouragement and insight into being successful students, professionals, and people. FLOTUS went on to say that part of letting go of that fear and embracing discomfort, is not being ashamed of hardships and life struggles that you may have endured. “Put it on the table”, as she so eloquently states, “let folks deal with it.” Motown Records is a sponsor of the Fall 2018 Becoming: An Intimate Conversation With Michelle Obama tour. Motown President Ethiopia Habtemariam spoke about their role in spreading and supporting FLOTUS’ message: “We’ve established this partnership because Motown’s continued growth and evolution over decades embodies the message of Mrs. Michelle Obama’s new book, Becoming. The playlist reflects our past dedication and continued commitment to remain the voice of today and tomorrow. Like Mrs. Obama, some of our artists experienced Hitsville for the first time and stand on the same ground that Motown artists and staff built into the iconic emblem that is globally recognized and loved by so many today.” It was surreal to be just mere feet from the woman that has inspired us along with millions and millions of others. If you haven’t picked up a copy of Becoming, then congratulations, you are playing yourself in a way that would make DJ Khaled ashamed. Pick up one for yourself and someone you love for Christmas, Michelle Obama has written an amazing gift. Continue reading →

N BA star LeBron James has been an influential voice in the fight for social justice and now his efforts to spread awareness about social equality will be highlighted at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, NBC Washington reported. Lebron James’ Equality sneakers at the NMAAHC https://t.co/NBE1NSKpkp — NBCWashington (@nbcwashington) December 15, 2018 The black and white equality sneakers that James wore during a game against the Washington Wizards last year are heading to the Smithsonian, the news outlet writes. He donned the sneakers to express his disapproval of the racial division that Donald Trump has incited in our country. One sneaker was black, the other was white, and both had the word “equality” on them. The addition of the sneakers to the museum will add to the history and ongoing narrative of how athletes are using their platforms to bring attention to social justice issues. “When he wore the black and white pair, it’s something we paid attention to. Thinking about the significance of the shoes and LeBron’s contribution to fighting for social justice, we decided it would make sense and be a great opportunity to add these shoes into our collection,” Dr. Damion Thomas , who curates the sports exhibit at the museum, told USA Today . “One of our main goals is not just collect things with significant historical background and importance, but also think about the objects that allow us to engage in the contemporary questions and issues that the nation is grappling with.” The sneakers are slated to be featured at the museum this fall. This isn’t the first time that James has been involved with the museum. In 2016, he made a $2.5 million donation to the Muhammad Ali exhibit. “Every professional athlete, regardless of race and gender, owes a huge debt of gratitude to Muhammad Ali,” James said in a statement, according to the Huffington Post . “His legacy deserves to be studied and revered by every generation.” SEE ALSO: The NBA Is Back! Source: Courtesy of Isiah (IG: @_callme_zay) Conversation surrounding criminal justice reform is gaining traction as world leaders like President Barack Obama and business moguls like Jay-Z call out widespread racial disparities in the prison system. Obama took a ton of important steps toward change, including being the first president to (very publicly) visit a prison and spend time with convicts, banning juvenile solitary confinement, and commuting a total of 1,175 sentences (330 in a single day). Jay-Z brought to light the devastating story of Kalief Browder , a young man from the Bronx who spent three terrible years in jail even though he was never convicted of a crime. After all he’d been through, Browder tragically committed suicide. And of course we can’t forget about Meek Mill getting politically active, as he calls out the injustices he, himself, has faced at the hands of the justice system. Meek’s stories give those who can’t relate to being locked up an insider’s look at how young black men are targeted and kept behind bars for extended periods of time. The movement is beginning to mobilize and more and more people are beginning to do their part to create the change we’d all like to see. Cue a young man from Harlem who’s sharing an incredible story of resistance this week. His name is Isiah , he’d been locked up on Rikers Island in 2016 when the warden broke a promise she’d made regarding game 7 in the NBA Finals and all hell broke loose. How he handled the escalating dispute and what he has to say about it today will give you chills. Isiah told Humans Of NY , “Every month in prison they had something called Inmate Council, where you get to meet with the prison administration and make suggestions. I volunteered to be the representative for my housing unit. And toward the end of the meeting, the warden asked if anyone had questions or concerns.” At the time, the Cleveland Cavaliers were going against the Golden State Warriors and the fellas just wanted to be able to tune in. “The NBA finals were going on at the time. So I raised my hand and asked: ‘If the Cavs force a game seven, can we keep the TV on past lock up time?’ And she agreed. She agreed in front of everyone,” Isiah explained. But things didn’t go as planned. “So when game seven came around, all of us were excited. We gathered around the TV in the dayroom to watch the game. But right as the second quarter was starting, the television clicked off. The CO came down and tried to kick everybody out. I told her the warden gave us permission, but she said it didn’t matter. And that’s when things began to go downhill. We refused to leave. The CO went behind a protected gate and pulled the silent alarm. We grabbed all the tables and chairs and stacked them up against the door. We covered the floor in shampoo and water. The security team came back with riot gear and huge cans of pepper spray, but we kept the door closed for over two hours. When they finally got inside, they were slipping all over the place. We just laid down on the floor and put our hands behind our back. I was given thirty days in solitary confinement. But I had to do the right thing,” he told Humans Of NY. Reflecting on his decision at the time, he added “Women are allowed to vote because some woman wanted to vote. The Civil Rights Movement started because Rosa Parks didn’t want to get out of her seat. And next time there’s a game seven of the NBA Finals, I bet they’re going to leave the TV on in Building Six at Rikers Island.” When Global Grind reached out for more details about that scary day, Isiah said since he was removed from the housing area he isn’t sure what the warden had to say for herself after the fact. However, he told us that at his Disciplinary Action meeting it’d been pretty obvious the guards turned off all the cameras at the time of the inmates’ sit-in. “When I asked them to show the cameras, they said they were ‘off’ and not working because they are new. But I know they weren’t telling the truth because they’d recently installed a camera they could control remotely. One night the camera was facing the front, the next morning the camera was facing the back of the housing area—and Rikers cameras are recording constantly to precent inmate on inmate violence.” Isiah mentioned, “This is what they do when they want to get away with assaulting you.” Today, the Game Design major has one semester left at Hostos Community College before he graduates. He tells Global Grind, “All I want to do is show my peers that it’s never too late to turn your life around and get on the right path.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://globalgrind.cassiuslife.com” id=”3882098″ overlay=”true”]
