Why Nelly? Why have you forsaken them??? According to TMZ reports : Rapper Nelly cancelled a scheduled meet and greet with the troops at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska yesterday after he claimed to be sick. Nelly performed at Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage on Friday night. But he complained on twitter the next day he had 102 fever and was throwing up … and eventually said he had to bail on meeting the troops on Saturday. Nelly’s Facebook page was flooded by fans who were disappointed he didn’t show up. One even posted a pic (see below) of troops sitting and waiting for him to show … with the caption, “A few of the hundred, or so, military and their spouses (some who have their significant other deployed) on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska, that you stood up. Not cool!!!” Ok, well that explains it. We don’t think Nelly would play hooky on the troops so we’ll give him a pass this time. A 102 fever is nothin’ to play around with… More On Bossip! ‘I think you’d be an idiot to not do what works for you,’ Nelly tells MTV News of making hit records. By Rob Markman Nelly Photo: MTV News When Nelly first stepped on the scene in 2000, he was hip-hop to the core. There was no denying the street appeal the multiplatinum hitmaker displayed in his debut “Country Grammar” video wearing an oversize baseball cap, baggy jeans and backward football jersey. The St. Louis standout has exhibited a ton of growth in his 11-year career, and while his 2010 single “Just a Dream” shot to #1 on Billboard ‘s pop charts, it didn’t do much to bolster his hard-core rap cred — and that’s OK. Nelly is still in tune with his rap roots. He even presented LL Cool J with his I Am Hip Hop Icon Award at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. “At the end of the day, I am urban, so you can’t run from that fact,” Nelly told MTV News as he walked the black carpet for the awards show. “At the end of the day, it’s another successful brother, stepping and breaking ground for the next brother to come along and do it.” The rhythmic “Just a Dream” was produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, the same team that handled Kelly Rowland’s R&B hit “Motivation.” Still, it isn’t a different formula than the one used on his Patti LaBelle-sampled hit “Dilemma” in 2002. Nelly has always stretched the boundaries of hip-hop, maybe most exemplified on his country duet “Over and Over” with Tim McGraw. The hip-hop star didn’t reveal which musical direction he’d be going with his upcoming, yet-untitled seventh album, but it’s safe to assume he’ll do as he always has. Nelly is willing to let the chips fall where they may. “You do what works for you,” he said. “I think you’d be an idiot to not do what works for you. They don’t want me to be smart about it? They wanna see another dumb brother not succeeding because he tried to do something that wasn’t smart? That’s what they say about us: We don’t think first. Well, this brother thinking first. I plan on being here.” What are you expecting from Nelly’s new music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Nelly

Reunited artists frolic on a beach in flirty new clip for follow-up to smash ‘Dilemma.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Nelly and Kelly Rowland on the set of the video for “Gone” Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage Nelly could have been channeling Rick James on his Teena Marie -featuring classic “Fire & Desire” when the St. Louis rapper first sets eyes on Kelly Rowland in his latest video for “Gone”: “It’s really good to see you again and I must admit you’re looking really nice these days,” James says, and Nelly seems to echo those sentiments in the brand-new clip, which leaked on Tuesday (March 8). (Check out photos of Nelly and Kelly Rowland on the set of “Gone.”) The pair reconnect on the Jin Jonsin-produced (and Rico Love-penned) track from Nelly’s 5.0, a reunion for the artists, who scored a hit years ago on 2002’s “Dilemma.” In the video, Nelly and Rowland are both vacationing on an island resort, when the rapper spots the singer lounging out in the sun and is stopped in his tracks. Throughout the visual, they take turns not only crooning to each other but also pining for the other. “I don’t want to say it’s a sequel. I don’t want to diminish anything with ‘Dilemma’ or have an expectation you can’t live up to when you do that,” Nelly told MTV News last year about “Gone.” “When you do that type of thing, there’s people who are already, ‘I don’t wanna hear it. It’s supposed to be “Dilemma.” ‘ You already being negative [before] pushing the button! “It’s one of those things where we did reconnect,” he continued. “Our chemistry has already proven to be good, whether it was onstage or in the studio. It was something that we wanted to reconnect with. It was produced by Jim Jonsin. … It’s a cool joint. I think people will get it. It can never be ‘Dilemma,’ but we wanted to extend the story. It’s continuing the story a little bit more, seeing her again.” Are you happy to see Nelly and Kelly together again in the “Gone” video? Tell us in the comments!
