5 Reasons Why You Have To See One Of The Fyre Festival Documentaries

Go here to read the rest:

Over the weekend, social media exploded with the Fyre Festival. Not because there was a new one planned but because of the two documentaries, on Hulu and Netflix respectively released on January 14 and January 18th. Fyre Fraud on Netflix and Fyre Festival: The Greatest Party That Never Was show different sides of the fallout from the 2017 festival created by rapper Jah Rule and serial entrepreneur William “Billy” McFarland. Here are five reasons you should watch. (A picture is painted of the shenanigans that took place in each documentary but for the purposes of this story we are referencing the Netflix doc. 1.THE AUDACITY OF CAUCASITY:  William ‘Billy” McFarland is a scammer and a criminal mastermind. He is also now a convicted felon though six years seems too little for a man who ran multiple scams of which the Frye Festival was the largest. And all by 25 years old, mind you. The New Jersey native,  raised by parents that are real estate developers,  first ran a company called Magnesis that produced and provided access to luxury events. Through the connections he made there, McFarland creates an artist booking app and hooks up with rapper Jah Rule to conceive a luxury music festival on a private island in the Bahamas. Without ruining it for you, McFarland uses a shoot with top models and social media influencers to advertise the festival which sells out. With $27 M in hand, McFarland soon either finds himself in over his head, or he knows from the beginning he can’t pull it off, because one of the doc’s unanswered questions is if the money wasn’t used for booking acts for festival infrastructure, where did it go? 2. FOLLOW THE RULE  Rapper Jah Rule was the festival’s hype man and McFarland’s partner, who seems largely to have been used as celebrity bait. Somehow, even though the festival was geared to millennials, Rule had just enough star power to make it legit. But by the time the festival came to its inevitable downfall, you’re not sure how much he knew or didn’t know, especially as it seems he never actually makes it to the island on the day of the festival. After the docs aired, Rule born, Jeffrey Atkins says that he, too was hoodwinked, but there’s a scene in the doc that suggests once he knew the extent of the Fyre Festival deception, he was more interested in spinning it than making the situation right.   Haha nice try homie you ain’t getting the goods over Twitter… but I will tell my truth real soon… AND I HAVE RECEIPTS!!! https://t.co/O03JD3VQOl — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019   3. THE MODELS Had McFarland chosen to use his powers for good, The Fyre Festival could have been a huge success. Like many scammers, McFarland’s greatest talent was to convince a lot of people that nothing was something. A marketing video shot on the private island where the festival was initially supposed to take place on with top models/influencers Chanel Iman, Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Baldwin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid went viral. Those models have now been  subpoenaed about their participation for the bankruptcy case arising from the failed festival. McFarland also reportedly paid influencer Jenner $250K for the orange square post that when simultaneously posted by an army of influencers also went viral and created demand for tickets, despite the fact that the advertised acts would have barely sold out a day at Made In America or any other U.S. festival. 4.FOMO IS REAL  FOMO,  the condition known as “Fear Of Missing Out”  was apparently the impetus for thousands to sell out the festival days after it was advertised. That was one of the things that may have made McFarland decide that the stress of actually putting on a festival and the work and money it required would have been too hard, when just keeping the money would be easier. Once the marketing effort was over with, the doc is a descent into chaos that seems very clearly was never going to be pulled off. Aside from the questions of funding, organization and infrastructure, there was also just plain bad juju that hovered over the festival in its planning stages. Despite the young talent McFarland amassed to build the artist booking app that was to become and integral part of Fyre Media pre-and post festival, they were mostly wasted as the festival, the app and the company were all casualties of the mess he created. 5. WHAT PEOPLE DO FOR WATER Event producer Andy King will go down in documentary history as the individual most willing to take one for the team. His testimony about what happened when the Bahamian government denied festival organizer access to four trucks filled with Evian water became meme and social media gold after the doc aired. We won’t spoil it for you here but let’s just say, if you had to pull off a near impossible event with little resources and an egomaniacal con man at the helm, he’s the guy you want. Mo’Nique Drags Whoopi Goldberg: She’s ‘Always Been The Help’

Source: Blackbird Film Fest Team / Blackbird Film Fest Team In a recent interview with Vulture , Mo’Nique didn’t hold back and had some choice words about Whoopi Goldberg . “She’s always been the help,” the Oscar winner said about her fellow Oscar winner. See, her comments were related to the last time she was in the hot seat The View discussing her career and 2018 Netflix boycott for offering a measly 500K for her own stand-up special. Apparently, Whoopi told her she could have “schooled” the veteran comedian on how to understand contracts. “When you have a woman saying, ‘I could have schooled you,’ someone would say, ‘What was the schooling going to be?’ When I look at this woman you say is our icon and our legend — she is,” Mo’Nique stressed. “But, how many things has Whoopi Goldberg executive produced? Whoopi Goldberg has always been the help, and I say that humbly. So what is it that you’re going to school me on? I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years.” (FACT CHECK: Vanity Fair pointed out that Goldberg has actually produced 30 projects, but we digress.) In addition, the actress brought up some of Whoopi’s own problematic past. “This is a woman who says ‘I could have schooled you,’ and this is a woman who accepted Ted Danson in blackface, and our community praises this woman,” she added. “So often times, we do it to ourselves. But, I just can’t. Understand, I love my sister. However, when you know you’re being fed the wrong food, you must say, ‘I can’t chew this, y’all.’” Mo also shared some details about a behind the scenes conversation she had with Whoopi, expressing to The View co-host that she hoped her boycott would help the future queens in comedy who should know to demand their worth. According to her, Whoopi wasn’t having that either. “In that moment I knew I was looking at a woman who didn’t give a damn about me,” Mo’Nique said. “And if she’s telling me, ‘Stop worrying about that little girl who not here yet,’ well, she forgot about the ones that came before her who were worried about her.” Welp! Mo’Nique called Whoopi “the help.” pic.twitter.com/H0ajGSBYPS — [kie.ran] (@danblackroyd) January 25, 2019 Mo wasn’t done though. In that same interview she kept it 100 about Tyler Perry. Remember, last summer she released a secret recording of the director and Precious executive producer telling her she had been mistreated by those in the industry and how her career stalled after winning the Academy Award. Caught on tape, Perry claimed he was going to speak up for her. Yet, let Mo tell it, that never happened. “Here’s the thing: he’s never done it,” Mo’Nique said. “We had given Tyler Perry a year to keep his word. Brother, you said you were going to come out and say something. Well, you never came out and said anything. And what was disheartening was people who were saying, ‘How could you tape him?’ But, they weren’t saying, ‘Oh my God, did you hear what he said? He said she wasn’t wrong.’” She continued, saying, “We didn’t accept any money.” Neither Whoopi or Tyler have responded to Mo’Nique’s comments. Mary J. Blige Is An Agent of The Apocalypse In Latest Trailer To ‘The Umbrella Academy’

Read the rest here:

Source: Netflix / Netflix We’re not too far away from finally witnessing Mary J. Blige hand out fades to some superhuman cats in Netflix’s upcoming series The Umbrella Academy and while it’s first trailer was a cool introduction to the cast and villains, it’s second trailer will certainly heighten anticipation for the show’s premiere next month. Based on the Dark Horse comic book series created by Gerald Way, the plot to The Umbrella Academy is certainly easy enough to follow for anyone not familiar with the story. On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse. What the synopsis doesn’t tell you is that the Queen of Hip-Hop soul is one half of an assassin duo that are hellbent on keeping the apocalypse date on schedule, and if that means bodying a superhuman or two, so be it. Sounds Trumpian almost. Check out the latest trailer to The Umbrella Academy below and let us know if you’ll be tuning it come February 15.

Tweets On Fyre: Ja Rule Sounds Off Against Struggle Music Festival Docs, Someone Take His Phone

See the original post:

Source: Patrick McMullan / Getty Over the weekend, the talk of the internet was two documentaries that highlighted the epic struggle that was Fyre Festival . One of the many people involved in the scam was rapper Ja Rule who can be seen in both docs excited about the festival that never was. He recently broke his silence, blasting both documentaries on Twitter. Y’all want it to be me sooo bad it’s crazy… kinda sad!!! the crazy shit is I’m watching the docs in awe myself… — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 Should have just said nothing at all. 50 Cent’s favorite punching bag Jeffrey Atkins tried to Tweet through the slander coming his way and failed miserably. Rule believes that both docs unfairly levied the blame on him for the disaster that was Fyre Fest and said “I love how ppl watch a doc and think they have all the answers,” days after Hulu’s Fyre Fraud and Netflix’s Fyre documentaries dropped. I love how ppl watch a doc and think they have all the answers… — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 He then followed that up by defending himself by ridiculously stating he had an “amazing vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!!!” and adding “I would NEVER SCAM or FRAUD anyone what sense does that make???” I had an amazing vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!!! I would NEVER SCAM or FRAUD anyone what sense does that make??? — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 While both documentaries detail how disastrous Fyre Festival was, The Ringer pointed out that both docs have some eye-opening issues. Hulu paid convicted fraudster Billy McFarland, and an undisclosed amount of money for an on-camera interview and Netflix’s doc was co-produced by Jerry Media better known as the Fuck Jerry group who helped market the festival. Ja Rule wasted no time shifting any blame thrown his way and directed it towards his former business partner stating he has “receipts, “pointed out those issues with the docs and made himself to look like a victim as well stating he lost “plenty” of money. Hulu PAID BILLY!!! That money should’ve went to the Bahamian ppl Netflix PAID fuck Jerry the same guys that did the promo for the festival… — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 I too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!!! — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 PLENTY… https://t.co/Pb5tOW3ueL — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 20, 2019 Through all the mess, Twitter did finally put enough pressure on the Queens rapper to apologize to Bahamian native and restaurant owner MaryAnne Rolle who was screwed over by the festival. My heart goes out to this lovely lady… MaryAnne Rolle we’ve never met but I’m devastated that something that was meant to be amazing, turn out to be such a disaster and hurt so many… https://t.co/16ld7ePlvQ — Ja Rule (@Ruleyork) January 21, 2019 Since the release of the docs, she has managed to raise $144,735 through her own campaign and exceeded her goal $123,000. Speaking with TMZ exclusively she still feels Ja Rule should pony up $100k and we definitely agree he should pay her if he is indeed genuinely sorry. — Photo: Patrick McMullan / Getty

“The Rewind” Ep 26 This week on “The Rewind” the Family Guy Landon Lavarius and The Bully DJ Franchise send a message to R. Kelly; “We see you!” The two discuss the “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary and they’re both disgusted. “It’s the people around R. Kelly who let this happen,” said DJ Franchise who gave the doc a 10/10. “I never even knew that Aaliyah was only 15. The security guy falsified documents—that’s jail time!” Landon also wondered if he’d actually do jail time or if the outrage is just a trend “Is R. Kelly about to go to jail now? Is this going to be a trend?” They also discuss Netflix’s hit “Birdbox”—blindfolds and all. Source: IOne Digital Video / iOne It’s “The Rewind!”

Claire Guena Seems to be an Actual Model and These Her Tits of the Day

Claire Guena has 17,000 followers and is signed to a few agencies that sound familiar, which may not be saying much, because it seems that the agencies are all signing instagram girls, to cultivate them and create celebrity out of them, in hopes of them going viral, and there really are no size or shape requirements….so sign everyone… But that doesn’t mean it’s not an accomplishment for Claire Guena to be signed…but pulling her tits out for her art, her photoshoot, her marketing campaign to get famous, in a world where fame doesn’t matter….and everyone is famous….there are still people who get paid more than other people for getting slutty in front of the camera…and that’s good enough for me to buy into their nonsense and appreciate that they are at a level where they only fuck rich dudes… The post Claire Guena Seems to be an Actual Model and These Her Tits of the Day appeared first on DrunkenStepFather.com .
