Fox News pulls Sean Hannity from Tea Party Rally

Fox News has pulled Sean Hannity from his starring role in a tea party rally just one week after Rupert Murdoch said the network should not be supporting the tea party movement. Hannity was set to broadcast Thursday night from a tea party rally in Cincinnati, but was rushing back to New York Thursday evening after network executives learned of the plan and said it was unacceptable. “Fox News never agreed to allow the Cincinnati Tea Party organizers to use Sean Hannity's television program to profit from broadcasting his show from the event,” Bill Shine, the network's executive vice president of programming, told the Los Angeles Times. “When senior executives in New York were made aware of this, we changed our plans for tonight's show.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/15/fox-news-pulls-sean-hanni_n_539719.html added by: jeffissleeping

Sarah Palin Documentary Series: An All-Time Low

When we heard Discovery was not only airing a documentary series called Sarah Palin’s Alaska, but shelling out big bucks for the right to, we were confused. Seriously … a show about the state’s natural beauty from a former half-term governor turned professional celebrity who arguably did tremendous ecological harm to Alaska and wishes she could drill, baby, drill even harder? How is that not an all-time low for the network? Apparently it is. A source within Discovery says that when they pitched the show to ad buyers, they were not impressed: “the whole thing [was] comical.” As much as a contractual demand for straws that bend ? Hard to say. HALF-BAKED ALASKA : Who gave this the green light? “After the promo, (employees and buyers) were rolling their eyes, snickering … people were laughing and it’s not even a comedy. No one took it seriously.” The insider was concerned that given a lack of interest from ad buyers, Discovery would have to “dump the show to a crappy time slot” to cut losses. “The bottom line is that everyone thought it was an all-time low for Discovery … My guess is the show is going to tank big time.” We’d have to agree. After all, it’s going to air on Discovery’s sister network, TLC. As in The Learning Channel, where the audience presumably wants to learn something. That’s pretty much the opposite of what Sarah Palin is known for. What’s next, Kate Gosselin doling out parenting advice? Oh… wait.

Conan O’Brien Launching Late-Night Show On TBS

In surprise move, show will launch in November at 11 p.m., followed by George Lopez’s ‘Lopez Tonight.’ By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien Photo: Michael Kovac/ Getty Images In a shocking turn, Conan O’Brien has inked a deal with TBS to launch a new late-night show in November. “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable,” O’Brien said in a press release. “My plan is working perfectly.” The news comes just as negotiations between O’Brien’s reps and Fox were said to be progressing, albeit facing obstacles over concerns from the channel’s affiliates. The announcement was made on the same day that O’Brien launches his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour in Eugene, Oregon. O’Brien’s publicist confirmed the development to MTV News. The press release states that TBS began negotiations with O’Brien last week, after George Lopez, who has his own late-night show on the channel, personally called the displaced “Tonight Show” host and asked him to join the lineup. “I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez said in the press release. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.” O’Brien’s still-untitled, one-hour show will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. ET/PT starting in November. “Lopez Tonight,” which currently airs at 11 p.m., will shift to midnight. “Conan has been the comedic voice for a generation. TBS already has a huge audience of young comedy lovers, and Conan’s show will give these fans even more reasons to watch our network,” Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said in the release. On his Twitter account, Conan added, “The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I’ll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show.” Will you tune in to Conan’s TBS show? Let us know in the comments!

Tina Fey Introduces The Sarah Palin Network

Barack Obama wasn’t a big fan of Sarah Palin’s uninformed criticism of his nuclear arms treaty with Russia this week. But at least the President, along with all rational human beings, can take solace in Palin’s existence for one reason only: it’s enabled Tina Fey to deliver the best satire television has seen in years. The actress was at it again last night, impersonating the former Alaskan Governor (and current professional, paid speaker of BS) on Saturday Night Live . Fey introduced viewers to The Sarah Palin Network, which is comprised of the following programs: Are You Smarter Than a Half-term Governor? Tea Party Wheel of Fortune (Example of a puzzle: Obama is a Terrist) Hey, Journalist, I Gotcha! (Where “I re-edit my interviews with journalists to make it look like they were the ones that were woefully unprepared.”) Man in a Helicopter with a Sniper Rifle vs. Wild It takes a lot to upstage Justin Bieber on the show , but Fey did it with this great skit. That’s So Palin: Tina Fey Does Saturday Night Live

The best part of Tina Fey’s now-iconic Sarah Palin impersonation — beyond the fact that it’s uncanny — is watching Fey’s barely contained rage. It just seems like she really doesn’t like the half-term Alaskan governor, which is probably what makes it all the more devastating. Fey dusted off her mimic skills on Saturday Night Live last night for an ingeniously conceived skit about “The Sarah Palin Network,” which featured fake programs like, ” Alaskanence : The show about a single woman who doesn’t believe in having sex before marriage, who is struggling to raise her three young children.” Also: “30 Main Street,” but there’s no reason to spoil that one too. Check out the skit after the jump.

5 People CBS Should Call to Host Pyramid

CBS is nothing if not traditional. To replace the canceled As the World Turns in their daytime lineup this fall, the network has gone to pilot with a revival of the game show Pyramid . Because nothing says “getting younger” like a game show from the ’70s! If this sounds familiar, it’s because CBS did something similar last year when they turned to the Wayne Brady-hosted Let’s Make a Deal after Guiding Light ended. Dick Clark famously hosted the original Pyramid — a more recent edition in 2002 featured Donny Osmond — but, as yet, no one has been announced as host. Fear not though: Here are five prime suggestions.
