Nothing is set in stone but the most famous daytime TV show in history could soon be coming to an end. Oprah Winfrey says her contract is due to expire in 2011, which would mark her 25th year on the air, but the talkshow queen says she hasn’t decided whether or not she’ll continue it. Industry insiders believe the daily grind may now be too much for her – and also believe she may be interested in taking total control of the cable channel she is launching, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN)

Craig Murray, the rector of the University of Dundee in Scotland and until 2004 the UK's ambassador to Uzbekistan, said the CIA not only relied on confessions gleaned through extreme torture, it sent terror war suspects to Uzbekistan as part of its extraordinary rendition program.

It’s not a good sign for your experiment in reshaping the face of network programming when the experiment’s centerpiece muses aloud that, yeah, maybe things were better the way they were before. In the killing fields of NBC chatland, what little peace and stability had been achieved was just been blown to smithereens by a little hint dropped by Jay Leno , that, oh yes, now that you mention it, he’d be willing to take his old slot back.

Brooke Hundley Fired By ESPN Too

Brooke Hundley, the ESPN production assistant who exposed a secret affair with ESPN baseball analyst Steve Phillips, is now out of a job at the network. A rep from ESPN at first confirmed to the AP that the 22-year-old Hundley “doesn’t work at ESPN anymore,” but it was unclear if she quit or was axed.

ABC Considering Admitting the Obvious: Good Morning America Isn’t a News Show

Good Morning America was for years produced by ABC’s entertainment division, before people got all huffy about “journalism.” Now, as ABC contemplates what to do after Diane Sawyer departs for World News Tonight , it may be headed back. A source familiar with the discussions inside ABC tells Gawker that among the options Disney/ABC Television Group president Anne Sweeney is considering for GMA is returning some or all of the broadcast to the network’s entertainment division, a move that would simply formalize the de facto devolution of GMA —along with the other the morning newscasts—into a music-and-cooking show dressed up as a news broadcast.
