River Phoenix’s Family Not Helping With Final Film After All

“Despite [ Dark Blood director] George Sluizer’s claim that he has been communicating with River Phoenix’s family in regard to releasing River’s last film, Joaquin Phoenix and his family have not been in communication with the director nor will they participate in any way.” Bummer. That said, the Lying Dutchman is a pretty good nickname if Sluizer wants it. [ Deadline ]

WATCH: The Avengers Trailer, ScarJo Nude Kerfuffle Get the Taiwanese Animation Treatment

In addition to giving the Gaddafi assassination the ol’ Taiwanese ‘toon treatment , the good folks at Next Media Animation have processed the recent Avengers trailer through their kooky CG filters. The result? One and a half minutes of hilarious superhero (and gyrating ScarJo ) action that imagines the titular crime fighters are called to assemble to battle the evil, cell phone-hacking, nude pic-distributing Loki. There’s no way the actual movie will be this entertaining. Stick around for more Buzz Break!

Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden Thriller Moves Out of Controversial Pre-Election Slot

Kathryn Bigelow ‘s upcoming movie about the team of Navy SEAL s who killed Osama bin Laden was originally set to debut right before election day 2012, prompting U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-NY) to call for an investigation of the extent of the Obama administration’s assistance to the project. Now, that point seems moot; Sony has rejiggered its release schedule so that the Mark Boal-penned picture will debut after the Presidential election, and possibly not until 2013. Then again, with today’s news of Muammar Gaddafi’s death , Obama might not need as much help raising the victory flag, pre-election. [ NYT ]

Is Attack the Block Getting an Awards Season Campaign?

Awards screeners have yet to really start coming in (a few have already been sent out, including Sony Pictures Classics’ Take Shelter , The Guard , and Higher Ground , and Summit’s A Better Life ), but this week’s arrival of Attack the Block DVD screeners is a surprise entry to the season. The Sony/Screen Gems-released sci-fi pic was sent out to members of the L.A. Film Critics Association this week, although it’s unclear how much of a campaign the studio plans, if any. Does the British kid-oriented genre film have a shot at awards season, anyway?

We’ve been vocal about our obsession with Ellen Barkin , who is currently taking Twitter by storm with her vulgar 140-character rants, observations, and loving shout-outs. John Travolta Doesn’t Understand How KFC Works

According to The Daily Mail, last Friday while in West Sussex, England for an annual Scientology event, John Travolta reportedly asked one of his reps to reserve a table at the local KFC for him and his guests. The KFC employee who answered the phone kindly explained to the actor’s rep that fast food chains operate on a first come-first serve basis, even if the customer was John Travolta. The actor never got his table or his fried chicken, instead going directly to a charity dinner. A spokesman for KFC has since released a statement about the Travolta debacle: “In hindsight, of course, we would have reserved a table for him. It’s not every day you get a Hollywood star eating in your restaurant.” [ Daily Mail ]
