14 Shocking Secrets from the Scandal Set

Scandal has solidified itself as one of the most shocking dramas on the air since it premiered in April of 2012.  There is no subject matter this iconic series will stray away from, and that's what makes it so fresh and exciting.  But what about when the cameras are NOT rolling? Based on an article in The Hollywood Reporter in celebration of the series airing its 100th episode, it turns out that just as many stunners have existed on the set as on the script pages. To wit… 1. The Original Olivia Pope? ABC originally wanted Connie Britton to be Olivia Pope, but the casting director and Shonda Rhimes were defiant that Olivia Pope was black. Could you imagine just how different the show could have been today? Kerry Washington emerged as the first black woman to topline a drama in 37 years. No, that was not a typo. 2. Shonda Was Against Making Another Show Shonda Rhimes was a very busy woman. She had Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice on the air, and she initially thought it would be too much to have another show on the air. After sitting down with real-life crisis manager, Judy Smith, Shonda changed her tune, and the idea grew into Scandal from there. 3. Platonic Olitz? In the original pitch there was no mention of Olivia bedding the Fitz. Paul Lee (Former Head of ABC) called Shonda to see if the relationship could be taken out, but Shonda said the show should not be made without that plot. Behold, the power of Shonda Rhimes. 4. An Internation Flop? There were even some complaints that a black lead could hinder the show’s chances internationally. It’s great Shonda and company proved the naysayers wrong. 5. No One Wanted To Be President During pilot season, most actors were spoken for and a lot of them were too expensive for the show. Tony Goldwyn was signed to a Fox pilot and Shonda called him as soon as he was dropped from the project, poaching him for some scandalous scenes with Kerry Washington. 6. Stephen, Is That You? Scott Foley was a favorite of Shonda’s while he was on Grey’s Anatomy. She killed his character off after telling him she wrote the role of Stephen for him. However, the network rejected him and went with Henry Ian Cusack, who got the role because of his international appeal. Foley moved on to Fox comedy, The Goodwin Games and Shonda poached him to play Jake the day it was canceled. Things are certainly fast-paced in Hollywood. View Slideshow

Caitlyn Jenner: My Transition Into a Woman is COMPLETE!

Back when Caitlyn Jenner made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, the Olympian-turned-reality-star was widely applauded for her bravery in coming out as transgender. In the months that followed, however, Jenner squandered much of that goodwill by continuing to voice far-right-wing political beliefs, even as the candidates that she supported threatened the rights and safety of the trans community. Adding to her image crisis is Caitlyn’s highly-publicized falling out with her family , several members of which feel Catilyn portrayed them negatively in her first post-transition interviews. These days, Caitlyn is in full damage control mode, and she’s reportedly hoping that her forthcoming memoir will help her win back some of her former supporters. Jenner says the book reveals aspects of her transition that even her biggest fans aren’t aware of. In one of the memoir’s biggest bombshells, Caitlyn reveals that she underwent gender reassignment surgery in January of 2017. “The surgery was a success, and I feel not only wonderful but liberated,” Caitlyn writes. She goes on to say that she doesn’t plan to discuss the matter in any future interviews: “I am telling you because I believe in candor,” she explains. “So all of you can stop staring. You want to know, so now you know. Which is why this is the first time, and the last time, I will ever speak of it.” Early in the book, Caitlyn writes about being wary of the procedure due to the health risks involved. “I just want to have all the right parts,” she tells readers. “I am also tired of tucking the damn thing in all the time.” Despite her initial reservations, Caitlyn says these days she couldn’t be happier with her decision to go through with it: “I am going to live authentically for the first time in my life,” she recalls thinking just after the surgery was completed. “I am going to have an enthusiasm for life that I have not had in 39 years since the Olympics, almost two thirds of my life.” Caitlyn’s memoir, The Secrets of My Life, will hit bookstores on April 25. United CEO Issues Ridiculous Apology for Passenger Assault

With the entire free world slamming United Airlines for its treatment of a passenger who refused to give up his seat on Sunday night, the company’s CEO has come out, issued a statement… … and made the situation even worse. First, it’s worth revisiting the disturbing incident that has caused United to go negatively viral for the second time in just a few weeks: Not long after United denied flight entry to a 10-year old girl in leggings , the airline overbooked a flight yesterday from Chicago to Louisville. For some reason, it allowed all ticketed passengers to board, prior to offering $800 to anyone willing to change his or her plans and take a later flight. After receiving no volunteers, United randomly chose four individuals… but one man still refused. He said he was a doctor and he had patients scheduled for Monday morning and he simply could not reschedule these appointments. But the airline wasn’t having it. Employees actually contacted members of the Chicago Police Department, who arrived on the scene and violently dragged the man off board. Because this is 2017, the incident was captured on camera and the footage uploaded to Facebook, where it has been viewed close to one million times. United spokesman Charlie Hobart told People Magazine soon afterward that the flight was overbooked and officials asked for volunteers to give up their seats. Which we’ve been over already, of course. This is (somehow) standard operating procedure for an airline. But instead of increasing the amount of money offered to passengers until they had four actual, willful   volunteers, United bloodied and bruised a man who had paid for his seat as cops dragged him off a plane to which he had every legal right. “When we didn’t get the number of volunteers we needed then we had to follow Department of Transportation procedures and ask that customers, four of them, exit the aircraft,” Hobart said, adding: “One customer refused to do that after we had explained the situation and apologized and let that customer know what we were gonna do on his behalf to get that customer to where he needed to be. “He still refused, at which point we had to involve the Chicago Police Department.” United CEO Oscar Munoz has since issued a statement of his own via Twitter, one that makes the airline look even more insensitive. “This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United,” Munoz wrote. “I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers.” “Our team is moving with the sense of urgency to work with the authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened. “We are also reaching out to this passenger to talk directly to him and further address and resolve the situation.” You want to address and resolve the situation, Mr. Munoz? We don’t think talking will accomplish this goal. Look for a lawsuit to be filed any day now and for the passenger to settle with United for a cool eight figures. At minimum. In response to this unfortunate situation, a number of celebrities have jumped online to express their shock and consternation. Farrah Abraham is the absolute worst, as evidenced by every single thing she’s ever done since becoming pregnant at the tender age of 16. She’s terrible — you know it, we know it, and her fellow Teen Mom stars certainly know it . For years now, Farrah has had issues with Amber Portwood, Catelynn Lowell, and Maci Bookout. The feud reached a boiling point in 2015 when the show was revived: originally Farrah wasn’t going to be part of it, and when producers brought her back, Maci threatened to quit filming altogether. Farrah, though she’d never say as much, seemed to be really offended by the idea that she was (and is) so horrible that Maci would leave the show, and since then, she’s been at odds with the other girls. And it certainly didn’t help anything when she and Amber got into a physical fight at the Teen Mom reunion show last year. So now we’re in this pattern where someone says something harsh but true about Farrah, then Farrah responds by either pretending she’s above it all, or by getting even dirtier. And that’s how we have this brand new interview with Amber, Catelynn, and Maci — all about you-know-who. When the ladies were asked about Farrah, Catelynn brilliantly responded with “Farrah who? Farrah Fawcett?” “She’s dead. Rest in peace. She was beautiful. Farrah Fawcett is dead. I love Amber and Maci, but poor Farrah Fawcett. Rest in peace.” Oh, the shade of it all! Amber kept it real, as always, saying “Me, Maci and Catelynn have always been good. Farrah, she’s just Farrah.” “It’s kind of like a non-issue, non-thing anymore.” Maci agreed, adding “It’s kind of one of those things like out of sight, out of mind.” But Maci — sweet, kind Maci — also said “I want the best for her and I think she does bring something to the show.” (Hint: it’s ratings. Everyone loves a good trainwreck, and there’s no trainwreck quite like Farrah .) “Not everyone is going to relate to me or Catelynn,” she continued. “The more different stories that can come together, the more relatable we’re going to be to everyone.” “I just don’t really have a relationship with her.” Fair enough, right? Not for Farrah. After hearing about this interview, Farrah made a new statement, explaining “I live my life separately and I think that’s the best way.” “Like I’ve said, I think we all need to create our own positive, healthy, happy environment in which they don’t fit in. So again, I want no part of their rounds and rounds of immaturity.” If she sounds testy, that’s because she gave a similar statement earlier this week after Amber and Catelynn theorized that she ” needs help, like severe counseling .” After that interview, Farrah said “I will not be including myself in discussions about what they say or have that circle of never-ending immaturity and unprofessionalism.” “It’s unfortunate that I have other cast members who are hateful towards women, and I just don’t want to belong or associate with that.” Oh, Farrah. Amy Schumer: Brutally Body-Shamed by Swimsuit Designer!

Amy Schumer just can’t catch a break when it comes to strangers talking trash about her body. How sad is it that this is the world we live in? Amy is just out there, trying to live her life, trying to do what she loves, and trying to be proud of her body and the way she looks, and at every turn, somebody has something nasty to say . It’s ridiculous, it’s pitiful, and you know it’s happened again. See, Amy just did a lovely new cover for InStyle, you can see it above. She’s wearing a nice white swimsuit, and looking just delightful. InStyle shared the cover on their Instagram account, where a swimsuit designer named Dana Duggan took issue with it. “Come on now!” she wrote. “You could not find anyone better for this cover? Not everyone should be in a swimsuit.” … Sorry, what? Not everyone should be in a swimsuit? Only perfectly proportioned size 2 types are allowed to swim now, is that what she’s saying? Or do average-sized people like Amy have to swim in tents or something? When Dana was accused of fat-shaming Amy , she responded with “I am not fat shaming anyone. She is a self proclaimed Cabbage Patch Kid. She fat shames herself in her comedy routine.” Some ridiculous human being commented that putting “plus size models” on magazine covers “gives many women an excuse to continue an unhealthy lifestyle that will eventually lead to chronic disease in most cases.” And Dana replied with a nice “Thank you!”, because obviously Amy is on her way to becoming the next Mama June. “I an have my opinion and you can have yours,” she explained. “It’s called Freedom of Speech. I’m not judging. Just stating my opinion.” But she also said that her company doesn’t make “plus size swimsuits” like the kind Amy would apparently wear, and she added that Amy looks “like a pig,” so we’d say there’s a good chance she actually is judging. Dana even did a few interviews about her opinions, stating “I’m tired of the media and publications trying to push the FAT agenda. It’s not healthy and it’s not pretty.” “What is wrong with featuring healthy and fit cover models?” Gee, Dana, it’s hard to say. What is wrong with your disgusting attitude? Some questions we’ll just never know the answer to, it seems. While the vast majority of Instagram users took issue with Dana’s statements, it’s probably safe to say that Amy herself isn’t too bothered by it all. She said it best herself: “Is it fat-shaming if you know you’re not fat and have zero shame in your game ? I don’t think so.” “I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love,” she added. “Where’s the shame? It’s not there. Kendall Jenner Pepsi Ad: PULLED Following Controversy!

Well, we suppose this was inevitable. Yesterday, social media lost its collective mind over Pepsi’s attempt to cash in on the nation’s current socio-political strife with a commercial in which Kendall Jenner heals America’s ills by handing a cop a cold can of carbonated sugar water. If that sounds like an exaggeration, check out the ad for yourself … Kendall Jenner: SLAMMED For Tone Deaf Pepsi Commercial … it might be your last chance, as Pepsi announced today that in response to growing controversy , the ad will be pulled from its marketing rotation. The company issued the following statement moments ago: “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace, and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize.” (“Ya think?!” Twitter could be heard responding in unison.) The statement continued: “We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.” The only one who should be apologizing to Kendall is her agent for not tossing the script for this tone-deaf piece of performative wokeness in the trash, then tossing the trash can out the window. If you don’t want have the three minutes to spare, or just want to save yourself the pain of watching a soda company try and fail to impress you with its social consciousness, here’s a rundown: Blonde Kendall is modeling when she sees a protest going on and decides to revert back to brunette #WokeBae Kendall and join the resistance. The protesters instantly recognize her #WokeBae-ness and are happy to have her. But what about the cops? Surely, they can’t be happy about this celebrity riling up the crowd, right? Ha! Don’t underestimate the power of #WokeBae Kendall. She cracks a cold Pepsi, and suddenly, the cops are … down with the cause? We’re not really sure. The ending is just one of the many things about this ad that’s confusing as hell, but the contrasting images above circulated on social media and help to underscore what so many found offensive about the spot. Initially, Pepsi went into damage control mode, releasing a statement reading: “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.” Wisely, they since decided to change course. Curiously, Kendall has yet to speak out on the controversy at all. Somewhere, we’re sure Caitlyn Jenner is assuring her that none of this would have happened if Ted Cruz had gotten elected . Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra Respond to Backlash Over Fake Pregnancy Joke: Get a Sense of Humor, People!

Earlier today, we reported on one of the stranger Teen Mom social media controversies in recent memory. It all began when Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra began discussing their desire to have a third child on Twitter. It’s anyone’s guess as to why a married couple would need to have such a conversation on social media rather than, ya know, face-to-face, but while the parental figures of the Teen Mom franchise love ’em some free publicity, we doubt the Baltierras expected this : Things started out innocently enough, with Catelynn tweeting: “Wahhh I’m ready for another baby @TylerBaltierra.” Tyler (or T-Balz, as we like to call him) wrote back, “Me too babe.” That’s when Catelynn made the (arguably unfortunate) decision to tweet the following photo: She captioned the image: “Proud to announce a new baby Baltierra @tylerbaltierramtv.” Clearly it was a joke, but if you’ve looked at a calendar recently, you know that it’s 2017, and 2017 is the year in which everyone gets pissed off about everything. A number of fans didn’t think the joke was funny for a number of reasons. Some thought Lowell was really pregnant and … felt let down, we guess? Others thought the joke was insensitive to those who struggled with infertility. Still others blamed Tyler and Catelynn for that Kendall Jenner Pepsi commercial . Okay, we’re joking about that last part, but in all seriousness, a good number of fans were legitimately outraged, and Tyler responded by basically informing them that he’d run out of f–ks to give long, long ago: “Apparently the world can’t take jokes anymore…don’t worry #TeenMomOG will be back on the air soon so we can disappoint you some more,” Tyler tweeted. “I actually love all of those critics. The fake profile pics & repetitive insults based on the lack of creativity…they just crack me up.” Asked if he could see how some might have thought the joke was insensitive, Tyler responded: “Yes, I’m the lowest piece of s–t, insensitive, entitled, asshole & a sorry excuse of a human being & I shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce.” Man, when that guy does sarcasm, he does sarcasm . For her part, Catelynn responded in a very different and much, much more confusing way: “Why don’t u just go back to ur real family?” she tweeted. “Not like we have mattered anyways.. to u it’s just the thought that mattered” Uh … we really have no idea as to what that might mean. We’re thinking Catelynn meant to subtweet someone, but instead she just tossed that bad boy out there with no context. Of course, we think it’s safe to say she wasn’t in a great mood when she wrote it, so you can be sure it will lead to more rumors about Catelynn and Tyler getting divorced . Beyonce and Jay Z Anniversary Celebration: 9 Years & Counting!

A handful of damaging rumors have dogged Beyonce over the past several days. There was chatter that she thinks she’s too fat to leave the house , for example. And there was talk that she and Jay Z are secretly paying money to a shadow organization that assures Beyonce only receives positive press. But while both of those reports are likely untrue, the following news item has been verified by a very reliable source: Beyonce and Jay Z have now been married for nine years! That’s nearly a full decade! Neither the singer nor the rapper has acknowledged today’s anniversary online, but Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, couldn’t help but honor the couple via a very sweet post on Instagram. “9 years already??? Congratulations to the Carters on their Anniversary,” Knowles wrote as a caption to the following photo. “That’s my arm fixing the dress lol,” she added, referring to her tugging on the train of her daughter’s wedding dress in the throwback snapshot. Pretty cool, huh? It’s not often we see such cute, personal photos of Beyonce and Jay Z, who comprise both one of the world’s most famous couples and one of the world’s most private at the same time. Beyonce and Jay Z were married on April 4, 2008 in a private, intimate ceremony. As you can see, the gorgeous singer donned a strapless white gown with a ruffled train, which was designed by her mom, for the occasion. And while Beyonce looks amazing, Knowles revealed that Queen Bey wasn’t exactly thrilled with the end result. “She was so sweet to let me do that,” Knowles said on the Today Show in June 2016, adding: “She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’ “Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart.” View Slideshow: Beyonce Baby Names: What Will They Be? Pregnant Middle School Teacher Accused of Having Sex With Student

A Texas middle school teacher has been accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student. Katherine Harper, 27, was recently arrested on suspicion of improper relationship between an educator and student, a second degree felony. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Harper was eight months pregnant at the time of her arrest. There’s no word on if the 15-year-old student is the father of Harper’s child. According to Fox 5 in Denton, Texas, police began investigating the relationship between Harper and her student after they received an anonymous tip back in December. The investigation revealed that Harper and the unnamed minor carried on a sexual relationship for nearly two months during the summer of 2016. According to the local Star-Telegram newspaper, the Harper and the student met when she taught him seventh grade English at Tidwell Middle School. Cell phone records show that they communicated 76 times the following summer, frequently sending explicit photos to one another. When asked about his time with Harper, the boy reportedly cried and admitted to the relationship. In an interview with Child Protective Services, the boy stated that he and Harper met at his home for the first time on June 1, 2016. The pair allegedly consumed alcohol and engaged in sexual intercourse. After being arrested last week, Harper has been released on $15,000 bond, and is currently awaiting trial. She has been placed on administrative leave from Tidwell Middle School. Bizarrely, this is the second such incident to take place in Texas in as many weeks. On March 22, we reported on the arrest of Sarah Fowlkes  (above), another 27-year-old Texas teacher who was arrested for having sex with a male teenage student. Fowlkes story went viral due to the teacher’s baffling decision to falsh a toothy grin in her mug shot. Disturbingly, in Harper’s case, there are sources coming forward with claims that they reported the situation to school officials as far back as September of 2016. She has been placed on administrative leave from Tidwell Middle School. Bizarrely, this is the second such incident to take place in Texas in as many weeks. On March 22, we reported on the arrest of Sarah Fowlkes  (above), another 27-year-old Texas teacher who was arrested for having sex with a male teenage student. Fowlkes story went viral due to the teacher’s baffling decision to falsh a toothy grin in her mug shot. Disturbingly, in Harper’s case, there are sources coming forward with claims that they reported the situation to school officials as far back as September of 2016. View Slideshow: 27 Teachers 2 Hot 4 Students An affidavit tied to the case revealed that officials did receive those reports, but put the investigation on hold due to lack of evidence. There is no word yet on when Harper will stand trial.
