Joanne Borgella Dies; Former American Idol Finalist Was 32 Years Old

Joanne Borgella, a finalist on Season 7 of American Idol and the first-ever winner of Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance, died after a long battle with cancer on Saturday. She was 32 years old. Borgella’s family confirmed the tragic news via a brief message on Facebook that reads: “With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne.” Borgella competed on the opening season of Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance as “Miss F.A.T.” She went on to advance to the final 12 women in 2008 on American Idol . Five years later, Joanne was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, updating fans about her condition in a series of Facebook videos.. Her last update came on September 23, as she prepared for more radiation and chemotherapy. “At an early age, Joanne made a choice to serve and trust the Lord; and since her diagnosis over a year ago, Joanne made a choice to also be a fighter and share her journey with the world,” her family wrote on Facebook, adding: “Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered,” continued Borgella’s family. “Although our family is suffering with this great loss, we find comfort in the closeness Joanne shared with the Lord. “We know her spirit still shines and will continue to live on in heaven.” Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. Justin Bieber and Lil Twist: Back in Action!

You may remember Lil Twist as the Justin Bieber lackey who was arrested for driving drunk and smoking a joint in Justin’s car . Needless to say, Twist isn’t great for Justin’s reputation, but he must be a blast to hang out with, because the Biebs keeps bringing Twist back into his life. Justin Bieber and Lil Twist: Reunited! That’s Justin and Twist leaving Playhouse restaurant in Hollywood last night, and fortunately was the one to get behind the wheel. Bieber had a house party broken up by the cops this week, but other than that, he’s been keeping an uncharacteristically low profile. You can expect that to change now that Twist is back in the picture.  Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, kicked Twist out of Bieber’s house  following his DUI arrest, and for a while it seemed that JB was intent on keeping his distance from the trouble making rapper. But now it seems Justin just doesn’t know how to quit Twist, and the rapper Instagrammed a photo of the two of them together last night, along with a caption reading, “Just like that…we’re bac…leaving a great dinner with my lil brother @justinbieber #Family” Ah yes, Twist realizes what really matters in life. The most important thing is family – particularly family with gajillions of dollars, armies of willing groupies, and an endless supply of weed. According to a new report, Kanye West does not want Scott Disick anywhere near his daughter. But Khloe Kardashian? Khloe Kardashian is very much permitted to hang out with niece North West, which she apparently did for a bit this week. “North stole my cat ears mask,” Kardashian captioned a new image on Instagram. “I have to admit it looks better on her.” Khloe has always maintained a close relationship with the child of Kanye and Kim Kardashian . Not long after North was born last year, Khloe posted numerous pictures of the baby , unable to hide her excitement over being an aunt. As for Nori, this lace mask she took from Khloe is scarcely the first piece of covetable attire that she has donned. Not even two years old yet, Kimye’s loved one has already attended major runway shows at Paris Fashion Week… worn Givenchy couture… and hob-knobbed with designers such as Riccardo Tisci. Ebola-Inspired Halloween Costumes: Too Soon or Too Funny?

Ebola has come to the United States. Over the past several weeks, the disease has infected its first patients in America, with a nurse named Nina Pham recently contracting it it after treating another victim. But even though it’s deadly, and even though it’s very recently taken lives close to come, Ebola is very much in the news. And that means it’s ripe for Halloween! Ebola Halloween Costume: Actually for Sale! Yes, multiple costume shops are selling Ebola Hazmat Suits for October 31. Jonathan Weeks – chief executive of BrandsOnSale, which is selling an Ebola containment suit costume for $79.99 – tells the Associated Press that he doesn’t want to “stray away from anything that’s current or controversial” when offering options to his patrons. (Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, is reportedly terrified of Ebola and has ordered Hazmat suits for her entire family, unrelated to Halloween.) Neil Patrick Harris to Host 2015 Academy Awards: Yay or Nay?

Neil Patrick Harris will soon be able to add yet another hosting gig to his very impressive resume. The former How I Met Your Mother star – who has previously emceed the Tony Awards and the Emmy Awards, while also having taken home trophies at both those events – has been tapped to host the 2015 Academy Awards. The show will air live on ABC on Sunday, February 22. “It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards,” Harris said via statement. “I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.” As multi-talented a performer as exists in Hollywood, Harris portrays the character of Desi in Gone Girl . Sons of Anarchy Season 7 Episode 6 Recap: Expired Juice?

The waiting game continued on  Sons of Anarchy Season 7 Episode 6 . For yet another week, a bulk of the hour was dedicated to Jax and SAMCRO moving from one alliance or club to another; striking up a deal with Tyler and the Niners here, making up with Marcus and The Mayans there, all aiming to take down August Marks in the end. Watch Sons of Anarchy Season 7 Episode 6 Online The pattern has grown a little tiresome over the course of Sons of Anarchy Season 7 , as it’s difficult to even keep track of what moves are meant to accomplish what goals. Chess may be a fascinating game to play, but it’s a bit boring to watch, know what we mean? The decisions Jax are making right now may very well result in an explosive/shocking/suspenseful pay-off down the road, but it continuously feels these days as if Sons of Anarchy is spinning its wheels before arriving there. We can only watch so many meetings with so many fellow club presidents without rolling our eyes. In this case, it was a question of working out a deal with the Mayans and also the white supremacists (oh, and also the Grim Bastards; there are so many to remember!) to take down some African-Americans and leave their bodies at Pope Industries. Everything, of course, is building to the big reveal that Gemma killed Tara. Nero started to piece together something being amiss between Gemma and Juice after seeing that the latter drove the former’s car to try and strike his own deal with the Mayans. He wanted to trade it for safe passage to Mexico. But The Mayans turned Juice over to SAMCRO and we ended with them walking their ex-club member out… to his death? Hopefully we’ll find out next week. It was a welcome sight to see this storyline come to a head, as it’s similarly felt like a lot of running in place where Juice is concerned. But not this arc has to play out in some (likely deadly) way, shape or form in the very near future. Gemma, meanwhile, broke down and cried to Nero over what Juice might tell Jax. She didn’t specify, of course, leaving viewers to wonder if she’ll be able to come up with some new lie to cover her Tara-killing tracks. What did you think of this Sons of Anarchy episode? New Girl Season 4 Episode 5 Recap: Land Line Problems

On New Girl Season 4 Episode 5, the gang decides they need a landline phone after years of frustration at the crappy reception their cells all get in the loft. Yes, this is one of the primary plot lines of an episode. Also, Jess discovers on New Girl Season 4 Episode 5 that Coach has been sleeping with a teacher at school. And another teacher at school. Oh yes. Watch New Girl Season 4 Episode 5 Online Much of the media buildup to this installment centered around Julian Morris as Jess’ new love interest, but this was practically an afterthought last night. Not because of anything he did wrong – he Goes In Ya just fine – but because the rest of the gang’s antics were that much funnier from beginning to end. When you watch New Girl online today, it’s hard to even guess what line you’ll be quoting afterward. There are so many options from each of the characters. The phone that could’ve been a lame gimmick turned out to be anything but. After some initial trepidation it really struck a cord (pun intended) with Nick. Feeling cut off from his more successful friends, Nick really enjoyed taking messages for them, while it reminded Winston that he used to be the man on the phone. At school, Jess learns that Coach is sleeping with the school nurse (who he won’t admit he’s dating), and a teacher who admits to doing the same with him. Just as “Dog” is berating them, her principal brings in new teacher Ryan and she is clearly smitten … as she holds a meeting about sex and co-workers. Sensing her attraction to Ryan and out to seek revenge for this public spectacle, Coach asks for a visual lesson, asking Jess to demonstrate for him. As a result of what kind of situation is she saying they should yell SHUT IT DOWN while making a wild, arm-swinging hand gesture? Coach must know. One touch from Ryan and Jess is practically moaning in front of the faculty, which isn’t the worst thing for every guy watching who crushes on Zooey. The comedy then returns as she karate chops him to the crotch a couple of times. Shutting it down? This episode was, even if not every gag was perfect. The landline phone, while this was going on, was complimented by another piece of technology from 1993: The answering machine, Nick’s replacement. When the machine breaks, Nick is quite happy, even withholding information from Schmidt about his important Business, Man interview to make a point. Realizing the error of his ways, Nick has Winston save the day by pretending to be Schmidt on the phone, relishing in his ’90s land line glory and scoring big. At school, Jess apologizes to Coach, who resumes banging the nurse, while the principal says as an administrator, she still can’t date other co-workers. Somehow we doubt we’ve seen the last of Ryan, though …

The Flash Season 1 Episode 2 Recap: Lessons Learned?

Following The Flash Season 1 Episode 1 , a premiere that drew rave reviews and huge ratings for The CW, Barry Allen learned a few lessons on The Flash Season 1 Episode 2 . The follow-up installment served to remind viewers that he’s only a kid, after all, as opposed to other superheroes who take on their heroic tasks in adulthood (hi, Oliver Queen!). Watch The Flash Season 1 Episode 2 Online This week, we witnessed a clash of viewpoints between Joe West – the detective who raised Barry – and Dr. Harrison Wells, the scientist anxious to explore The Flash’s potential West is concerned that speed isn’t enough. Is Barry truly a warrior ready for battle? Wells and the S.T.A.R. Labs team, conversely, are happy to let Barry chase down other meta-humans… yet want to draw the line at rescuing kittens from trees. They have self-serving goals in mind. But “you don’t know what you don’t know,” West warns the team of scientists. He fears they will get Barry killed. This house also centered on what Barry doesn’t know, specifically the details in fighting crime at  warp speed. For example, he’s still flying past destinations and he occasionally rushes off so quickly he forgets to grab a change of clothes. Oops! Barry also requires extra amounts of fuel to power his new metabolism. You know, like 850 tacos in one sitting. And that’s one of the appeals of this new series: Barry is clearly having a blast. Examples: the guy turns his hand into a makeshift centrifuge; he “stops time” to tell Iris all the things he wish he could tell her, yet cannot (NOTE: Iris is fixated on the “red streak.” It sucks for Eddie, but she clearly has a crush. Big time.) As for the Villain of the Week, Multiplex could duplicate of himself, yet didn’t really stand out in any way. That’s fine, however. We know Captain Cold is on the way and Barry needs to be the main focus here for a bit early on. The episodes concluded with Joe realizing that Barry’s partnership with Wells is the only way Central City can remain safe, but also with him emphasizing the personal and vowing to Barry: “We’re going to figure [your mother’s murder] out together.” We then see Wells visiting Simon Stagg, who wants to capture this “man in the red mask” and redefine “what it means to be human.” At that, Wells drives a dagger into his peer, explaining that The Flash “must be kept safe.” What did everyone think of this installment?
