Travis Scott SLAMMED by Al Sharpton for Halftime Show Hypocrisy

Being as wonderful as she is beautiful,  Rihanna passed on the Super Bowl Halftime Show  in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. Travis Scott cannot say the same, and has reportedly agreed to perform with Maroon 5. Everyone is pissed, including Al Sharpton, who calls out Travis for selling out. TMZ   caught up with famed and controversial civil rights advocate Al Shaprton and got his opinion on Travis Scott's potential Halftime gig. “I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating,” Al Sharpton begins. He continues: “those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick” “And,” Sharpton continues, it would put them in opposition with “those that protest on criminal justice issues.” In other words, if you put on a show at the behest of an organziation that penalizes and punishes civil rights advocates, you're not the good guy. “You can't tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don't go to the games,” Sharpton continues. He says: “And then say 'but somebody ought to perform there and entertain.'” That's pretty fair. “You're drawing TV viewers, you're bringing supporters,” he points out. Performing at the Halftime show in 2019 would be an endorsement of NFL. Who wants  that  on their conscience? “And,” Sharpton reasons. “I think that you can't have it both ways,”  The  TMZ  interviewer, hoping for a little more words from Sharpton, then poses some complicated questions. For instance, could Travis potentially take the gig, but use the platform to  Famously, Beyonce took charge of the Halftime show in 2016 for exactly that purpose. But that was when Kaepernick was still part of the NFL. Now, he claims that the NFL colluded to force him out. “You can’t help people market something,” Sharpton says. “And then turn around and say you agree with the people protesting.” Sharpton has some advice for Travis Scott. “I think he should do what a lot of other major artists have done,” he suggests. Sharpton recommends that Travis “say 'I'm not going to participate.’”  Travis is a father now, and has to decide what sort of man he wants to be and what sort of world he wants to help make for baby Stormi. “You can't fight against Jim Crow and then go sit in the back of the bus,” Sharpton explains. He makes a lot of statements, but to be fair, the guy made his case very well for a man who's standing in the rain. Travis Scott came under fire over the weekend after an old interview resurfaced. In 2014, long before he was Kylie's famous baby daddy, he gave a radio interview about the infamous murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson. “I'm kind of angry,” Travis said at the time. “So many black people are acting like fake activists.” “I'm not saying that he deserved to get killed,” Travis clarified. “But,” Travis continued. “I'm not saying he didn't deserve to pay for consequences he probably inflicted.” In that same old interview, Travis continued, referring to “the problem with black people.” He disliked the  disruption  in Ferguson that followed Brown's murder. “And I know we're like 'fed up' … with whatever is going on in the culture,” Travis said. “But at the same time,” Travis continued. “You gotta just stop putting yourself in positions where you're continuously having this situation go down.” Many of his fans felt betrayed reading those words. Don't do crimes  is a fine message in general, but not an acceptable response when a man is extrajudicially executed in the street. Now, Travis made these comments more than four years ago. A lot of people's ideas change over time.  Ferguson was a huge catalyst for changing the nation's understanding of the shootings of unarmed black people. But Travis accepting the Halftime show after everything may mean that he still hasn't changed his mind — or hasn't changed it enough. Maybe he'll surprise us all. But reports say that Jay-Z is personally trying to persuade Travis to turn down the offer.

STEM Pioneer Dr. Gladys West Inducted Into Air Force Hall Of Fame

A Black woman who played an integral role in pushing space exploration and technology forward is finally receiving the credit that she deserves. Dr. Gladys West —the mathematician who helped create the Geographical Positioning System—was recently inducted into the Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame, The Hill reported. She joined the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory and served as a mathematician during a time where new technological systems were being introduced. She also contributed to groundbreaking studies surrounding different planets. “She participated in a path-breaking, award-winning astronomical study that proved, during the early 1960s, the regularity of Pluto’s motion relative to Neptune,” read a statement released by the Air Force Space Command. “The Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Award pays tribute to the leaders of the early years of the Air Force space program, as well as the subsequent innovators whose vision and perseverance overcame the obstacles of the unknown, those who transformed the cutting edge of technology into operational systems, and those who dedicated their lives to exploring space in support of our national security concerns.” The stories of Black women who have made major contributions to STEM are coming to the forefront, and many of them are being honored for their achievements. Their legacies are inspiring the next generation of Black leaders who are interested in the field. Earlier this year 10-year-old Akosua Haynes , a young Black aspiring astronaut from Chicago, received a huge honor from the Library of Congress after penning a letter to the author of the book that inspired the film Hidden Figures ; detailing how the story motivated her. “I really want her to know how much her book inspired me and how it has really motivated me to push my math skills to a much higher level. I have a little STEM program on Saturdays and I’m trying to make myself more like Katherine Johnson every day,” she said. Once news spread about her accomplishments in the realm of sports, she became an athlete to watch. She was the first Little League player to grace a national cover of Sports Illustrated , she landed a spot on TIME ’s “25 Most Influential Teens of 2014 List,” and she secured a book deal. The world was watching to see what her next move in sports would be. Davis recently inked a letter-of-intent to play at Hampton. She was considering other schools that included Coppin State University, Southern University, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Pennsylvania, and Bethune-Cookman University, but thought that Hampton would be a good fit. Angela Nicholson —the head softball coach at Hampton—says she had no clue that Davis wanted to play softball in college until she received an email from her a few months ago. “She sent me an email, and I invited her to camp. She came to camp, and she was phenomenal. That’s how it all started,” she told the news outlet. “Having Mo’ne is great. I know she doesn’t want it to be about her, and neither do we. We want her to have a great experience and be like everybody else.” She will reportedly join the team as a middle infielder. Davis currently attends Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia where she plays softball, basketball, and soccer. As a Liberian immigrant who came from humble beginnings, he sees a lot of parallels between he and Walker’s story and believes that the incubator will be a way to pay homage to the woman who was our country’s first Black woman self-made millionaire. “The Dennis family wants to make sure that Madam Walker’s legacy continues not only through the hair care products but also through this beautiful home that was intended by Madam Walker as a place that would inspire others,” Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles told the news outlet. “They embody it themselves and they understand why it is important for other people to be able to share the vibrations that come from that house.” The home was constructed 100 years ago by Black architect Vertner Tandy . Elsewhere In The World: At Least 168 Killed As Tsunami Hits Beaches In Indonesia

Source: SEMI / Getty Surprise Tsunami Hits Beaches In Indonesia Killing Nearly 200 There was absolutely no warning before a deadly tsunami struck Indonesia on Saturday, which ended up killing at least 168 people and injuring at least 745, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of public relations at Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency, announced on television. According to the country’s meteorological, climatological and geological agency, the tsunami is likely to have been triggered by a combination of underwater landslides caused by volcanic eruption. Nugroho said that the country doesn’t have the proper equipment to alert that a tsunami threat is coming. “This is new thing for us,” Nugroho said, adding that Indonesia needs underwater sensors that would warn authorities of possible dangers such as this.  “We need multi-hazard early warning system, and we need lots of it.”  Nugroho also pointed out that tsunamis are much faster and less predictable than tidal waves, which are caused by atmospheric conditions. “We used to know that a tsunami happens after an earthquake. There was no quake last night. That is why there was no warning,” he said referring to the underwater landslides.  He also announced that 30 people are still missing. The tsunami has destroyed 558 houses and heavily damaged nine hotels, 60 restaurants and 350 boats.   Indonesia has unfortunately been hit by a series of natural disasters in recent weeks, including a strong earthquake that hit the island of Sulawesi only a couple months ago on September 28. In the towns of Baleroa and Petobo, rivers of soil swept away entire neighborhoods in the aftermath of the magnitude-7.5 earthquake and ensuing tsunami. The death toll from the quake is nearly 2,000. Another 20 people had their lives taken in October, when torrential rains and flooding triggered mudslides that wiped out part of an elementary school in Indonesia’s North Sumatra.

SMH: Al Sharpton Isn’t Happy With Travis Scott’s Reported Super Bowl Gig [Video]

Source: Pacific Press / Getty Al Sharpton Blasts Travis Scott For Performing At Super Bowl Al Sharpton  is not happy with Travis Scott. Earlier in the week, it was reported that the rapper was going to be performing at the Super Bowl 2019 halftime show alongside Maroon 5. Though Scott’s involvement has not been confirmed as of yet, many people have expressed their disappointment in the move and have been encouraging La Flame to bow out of the event. Al Sharpton echoed these same concerns during a chat with the people over at  TMZ , insisting that Scott’s halftime performance would endorse Colin Kaepernick’s unjust treatment by the NFL. The civil rights activist urged Travis to follow in the footsteps of other entertainers who have chosen to boycott the Super Bowl, including Rihanna and Cardi B–who have both reportedly rejected halftime show offers out of support for Kaepernick. “I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues,” Sharpton said. “You can’t tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don’t go to the games and then say ‘but somebody ought to perform there and entertain.’ You’re drawing TV viewers, you’re bringing supporters, and I think that you can’t have it both ways…You can’t fight Jim Crow and then sit in the back of the bus.”   Sharpton isn’t the only one who has publicly expressed their disapproval of Travis’ alleged upcoming performance. Meek Mill has also weighed in on the reported Super Bowl addition, insisting that he likes the rapper but doesn’t understand why he would accept the gig. For what???? https://t.co/oTZ4PsDqcD — Meek Mill (@MeekMill) December 20, 2018 Variety  also reported that JAY-Z tried to convince Scott to back out of the performance. Travis Scott has yet to address the reports about him performing at the Super Bowl. The game is set for February 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Standing With Kap Or Nah? Here’s The REAL Reason Cardi B Isn’t Making Money Moves On The Superbowl Stage

Source: Gladys Vega/Getty Images / Getty Here’s Why Cardi B Refuses To Perform At The Superbowl As you know, Travis Scott has signed on to perform at the Superbowl halftime show this year and is in the midst of being counseled against it by Hip-Hop legends. But prior to his eleventh-hour sunken decision, the NFL was practically begging Cardi B to turn up and support Maroon 5 at the show — which she has notably refused. However, according to a source for Page Six , Cardi is only refusing to perform at halftime because the NFL isn’t meeting her outlandish demands, not because she has any solidarity with kneeling players or issues with the league’s racial policies. The source claims Cardi demanded to be paid around $1 million to appear during the 20-minute performance and also required a solo spot during the show without Maroon 5 accompanying her on stage. The thing is, the NFL typically doesn’t pay artists to perform at all. They instead give a “gift in kind” to performers, which covers all production and wardrobe for the performance, travel, and accommodations for the artists. It’s more of a career benchmark and honor for the artists than a big-check opportunity. But Cardi wants her cash. Other sources close to Cardi claim that she really is refusing the slot in solidarity with Kaepernick and his #TakeAKnee movement, and it has nothing to do with the 7 figures the NFL isn’t handing out. Hmmm…sounds like Cardi would be down with the NFL if the money was looking right. But she may actually have the strong principles her crew claims. Who do YOU believe? Gladys Vega/Getty Images

Jay Z Is Allegedly Trying To Stop Travis Scott From Shucking And Jiving At The Superbowl

Read the original here:

T he NFL has effectively banned  Colin Kaepernick  from playing in the pro football league simply because he peacefully exercised his constitutional right to protest. The rich white men at the Super Bowl and CBS, including the creepy  Les Moonves , attempted to destroy Janet Jackson’s career over a wardrobe malfunction in 2004 — and Justin Timberlake walked away unscathed. Therefore, the Super Bowl does not deserve one millisecond of Black artists during their Halftime Show… unless you are Kylie Jenner’s baby’s father, Travis Scott . Luckily, Jay Z  was reportedly trying to talk some sense into him. SEE ALSO:  Some No Name, Pitchy R&B Singer Disrespected Keith Sweat And Gets Demolished On Twitter Overrated pop band Maroon 5  agreed to perform at the Super Bowl in February and allegedly asked several Black artists to perform, too. Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000,   Cardi B, Usher and Nicki Minaj all reportedly said no.  Rihanna gave a hard no back in October and even  P!nk declined . But yesterday it was announced that Travis Scott said yes, and the rapper was promptly  trampled by social media . Now, Jay Z is trying to save any credibility Scott has in the Black community by attempting to convince him to not perform. Variety.com reported that two sources were claiming Jay Z was reaching out to Scott. Neither Jay’s or Travis’ camp confirmed the reports, which probably means it’s true. Sadly, there probably isn’t much Jay can say to the 26-year-old. Even Maroon 5 has ignored a Change.org petition, which has more than  75,000 signatures , to not perform. Thankfully, Philly rapper and budding social media icon  Meek Mill is not here for any Super Bowl foolishness. When it was rumored he was going to perform, he quickly shut that down: If Travis does perform, which he probably will, good luck with having a career in the Make America Great Again fanbase. Danielle Maltby Gets Candid About Paul Calafiore Cheating Scandal

Danielle Maltby is trying to move on. Really, she is. But The Bachelor alum was burned so very badly by ex-boyfriend Paulie Calafiore and his wandering penis that sometimes she doesn’t know if she’ll ever kiss again. “I am really struggling today… I don’t want to get out of bed even though I have tons of sh-t to get done before the Holidays,” Maltby wrote on Wednesday as a caption to a black-and-white image of herself. She added, likely through years: “Control the controllable they say. Well, I’ve tried that. I don’t like to show all my vulnerability, because it gets taken advantage of along with my love and kindness. “Most days I feel myself hardening since my relationship ended. I honestly believed I had found my person. He was everything to me. “Now the thought of dating leaves me terrified to let anyone in. It’s not like I have anything to give out anyway. “I’m trying to wrap any love I still have in me around myself.” Back in June, Calafiore (Big Brother, Ex on the Beach) confessed that he had been sticking it to Cara Maria Sorbello (The Challenge) while in a relationship with Maltby. “I am not proud of my actions these past weeks,” he told E! News at the time, ashamedly adding: “I know they speak louder than these words. I have destroyed the one person that has believed in and brought out the best in me. I have many things I need to work on and repair internally. “I want to be better. I know I haven’t earned it, but I ask for patience and privacy while I work on repairing myself.” Danielle works as a neonatal nurse and competed on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor in 2017, prior to briefly appearing on Bachelor in Paradise. Her fiance, Nick Haag, actually died from an apparent drug overdose in 2011. Therefore, “I’ve been in this place before,” she continued on Instagram, but “this is different. You’re still here… “I’ve been slowly draining since the lies started and my ex cheated on me. The people that know and love me, see how much this has taken from me, especially physically. “The “revenge bod” I’ve tried to joke about isn’t some new diet trend, it’s because I’ve been physically sick from the anxiety, stress, grief and lies inflicted on me for months.” Yikes. We feel awful for Maltby. Danielle went on to say that Paul – who is still in a relationship with Cara – has continued to contact her and wants to be unblocked because “we are important in each other’s lives,” in his words. “I made a lot of excuses trying to rationalize his behavior and I wasn’t able to come to terms with the fact he was able to hurt me like this,” she says. “I believe I was shown the person he wants to be but something is holding him back from it.” How can he possibly still want Maltby in his life? Danielle has a theory: “Somewhere in his mind, he has made himself believe that it’s ok to continue to tell me he needs me, misses me, still loves me and wants to fix everything. “Actions speak louder than words. “Today, I can’t explain today. I’ve just had enough… “Some days are ok, some are really good and I had a great night last night, but today, my place is a mess and I can’t get out of bed and honestly, I just hurt. I’m working on it though.” We’ve all been there, right? At least in some extent, in some way. Maltby concluded her post with a yellow heart emoji. All we can say in response is to hang in there because this, like all heartbreak, really will pass. Even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. And also: You can do so much better than Calafiore. That guy sucks.
