Kanye West Makes Fantasy Real With Secret NYC Show

Nicki Minaj, Justin Vernon, Teyana Taylor join ‘Ye at Bowery Ballroom to celebrate album release. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West performs at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday Photo: Erez Avissar NEW YORK — Kanye West is nothing if not a showman, and on Tuesday, the rapper celebrated the release of his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with a performance that was as daring and dashing as it was fraught with traces of the petulant MC of the past. Shortly after midnight, West took to the stage at the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan accompanied by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and femcee/singer Teyana Taylor. The trio launched into “Dark Fantasy,” the spirited opening number of ‘Ye’s new set. Sporting a skin-tight dress, Taylor admirably belted out the chorus to the track and stuck around to ride shotgun with the G.O.O.D Music chief. “New York City, make some noise,” West told the gathering crowd after the opening selections. “Today, I’m gonna do My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. ” From there, West breezed through “Gorgeous,” “Power” and “All of the Lights,” the latter of which was a rumbling effort. Nicki Minaj joined Yeezy on stage for some album-release unity when the DJ spun “Monster,” sans Jay-Z. Rick Ross arrived onstage for the Bink-produced “Devil in a New Dress.” When West teased the first few chords of “Runaway,” the crowd — which included Diddy, music executives Lyor Cohen and Sylvia Rhone, ?uestlove, comedian Aziz Ansari and Selita Ebanks — erupted with approval. The dramatic rendition was easily the night’s highlight and featured artist Pusha T looked possessed on the microphone. Meanwhile, West was like a mad scientist pounding away on his MPC machine, creating musical backdrops to match almost each song. After over an hour of performing, Yeezy closed the proceedings with a stirring, slowed-down rendition of the song “Lost in the World,” the song he’s slated to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday . He reappeared on stage shortly after for an encore and powered through brief versions of “Christian Dior Denim Flow” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” Although he finished with “Good Life,” it may have been the defiance of “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” that stuck with ‘Ye after the performance, when he spoke to the crowd. “As you know, it’s been an extremely hard year for me,” he began. “But getting back to music, G.O.O.D. Fridays, and the album … I never thought I’d say this, I wanna thank the magazines for perfect scores across the board. I always felt like I could do anything. “To do 100,000 digitally,” Ye continued, remarking on his first day tally in sales from Monday. “And slated to do 600,000 the first week. I’m not here to do mother—-ing politics. I’m here to make music. I’m not here to talk in no interviews; no one ask me any stupid f—ing questions.” Open the floodgates! It’s Mega-Release Week, with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and Lloyd Banks all dropping new albums. Nicki Minaj Fans Swarm New York MAC Store For Glimpse Of Their ‘Idol’

‘She is so different and inventive,’ one die-hard says of Pink Friday MC. By James Kuo Nicki Minaj arrives at the MAC cosmetics store in Times Square on Tuesday Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images NEW YORK — Nicki Minaj took New York City by storm Tuesday (November 23) while promoting her debut album, Pink Friday. Her first stop was the Times Square MAC Cosmetics store, where she talked about her special edition Pink Friday MAC lipstick. Her fans — known as Barbiez — eagerly awaited her appearance. Jasmine Taylor, 23, was “super excited” to see Nicki. “She is my idol. I live for her. I’m, like, shaking right now,” said Jasmine, who sported a Nicki Minaj haircut and a glittering “Barbie” necklace. “She keeps it real and is so personable. The guys give her respect because of her lyrics.” Kelly Baker, a student at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, wasn’t dressed like Nicki, but she was just as big a fan. What draws Kelly to Nicki is how she is not like any other artist. “She is really different and the only person who I can think of that is like her is — I don’t know. I think she is so different and inventive.” Eric Cruz, 23, loves her so much that he wanted her to sign his neck so he could get it tattooed on him permanently. All her fans came armed with the new Pink Friday album, hoping to get their copy signed. Tishae Lauren from the Bronx had to go to three different stores until she finally found a few lingering copies at Walmart — which she promptly bought up. All the Barbiez in the crowd thought Nicki would outsell Kanye West and My Chemical Romance, who also dropped new albums Monday. “I think Pink Friday will do good because everybody loves Nicki. She’s the sh–,” Anthony Pecheco insisted. Her fans are also excited about her upcoming documentary, “My Time Now,” which premieres Sunday, November 28, on MTV. “I’m excited because we always see her as a cartoon character,” Tishae said. “Finally, we get to see her more serious side.” Nicki also drew one fan all the way from Rome. Mario Petroccione came to New York just to see his favorite female MC. “She’s huge, and I love her,” he said. “She never comes to Italy, so that’s why I come to New York to see her.” When asked what it was about Nicki that got him to fly all the way from Rome, Mario replied, “She’s just lovely.” Did you rush out to the store to get Pink Friday ? Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha also take fashion chances at the AMAs. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift arrives at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ FilmMagic At a show like the American Music Awards , anything goes in the fashion department. And pop stars like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus certainly decided to take some chances when they hit the carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday (November 21). Taylor Swift graced the carpet with a new hairstyle. Instead of her trademark curls, she sported full, blunt bangs and paired the ‘do with a chic, short rhinestone dress that was more rocker than Nashville. Nicki Minaj hit the carpet in a neon-pink-and-green dress complete with a birdcage-like structure over it. Ke$ha kept it kooky with a mohawk and a low-cut dress made of VHS tape. Her makeup was decidedly Ke$ha with glitter and black lipstick. Miley Cyrus went modern-bride chic in her Marchesa white strapless mini with a bustle and train. Rihanna looked red-hot with curly flame-colored hair and a partly see-through red Ellie Saab Haute Couture gown with sleeves, a low-cut back. The Ellie Saab Haute Couture gown gave off a nude illusion. Katy Perry said she went “girly” in her pale-pink Badgley Mischka strapless gown with sequins. She completed the look with old-Hollywood hair and teardrop earrings. Avril Lavigne wore pink-and-black streaks in her blond hair and kept it punky thanks to a Dolce & Gabbana graphic black-and-white little dress, lots of bangles and peep-toe ankle boots. Pink hit the carpet hiding her baby bump with a big black gown that was still funky, thanks to its low-cut back. The Situation wore a “Jersey Shore” black T-shirt, black blazer and rosary beads. Other guys who went for an all-black look included Usher and Diddy. Meanwhile, Ne-Yo decided to shake it up with a deep-purple suit. Several big pop groups hit the carpet, including the Black Eyed Peas. Fergie looked funky in a little black-and-blue dress with feather shoulder pads; apl.de.ap and Taboo looked sedate in black; and will.i.am looked like a cartoon character in his leather blazer, white jeans, medallion and Lego cap. The New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys graced the carpet in a sea of sharkskin suits in various shades of gray. Who’s your pick for best-dressed on the AMA red carpet? Far East Movement Thank Fans For ‘Like A G6’ Success

MTV News informs the Los Angeles band that their hit single has achieved double-platinum status. By James Dinh Far East Movement Photo: MTV News Far East Movement must be feeling pretty fly right about now. Not only has their club anthem “Like a G6” conquered the Billboard Hot 100 once again, but the song has also reached double-platinum status. MTV News caught up with the electro-rap group, and they thanked fans for their hugely successful debut single. “Whoa. We just found out on MTV News that we hit double-platinum on ‘Like a G6,’ ” Kev Nish told MTV News. “Thank you. We’re grateful to that. That means a lot of people across America are feeling fly and like a G6 and getting slizzard, so thank you guys.” Back in September, the quartet spoke to MTV News about the inspiration behind their breakthrough single. “A G6 is not a Gatorade flavor. It’s not a car, convertible, four-door. It’s not a watch,” Nish explained. “But Drake, Drake talks about having G4 pilots on deck, so we said, ‘What’s flyer than a G4?’ Of course, it would be a G6.” After the band recorded the party anthem, which features the Cataracs and Dev, they immediately went on tour. Without having time in between, FM put the track on a mixtape and uploaded it online. Little did they know that “G6” would spawn legions of fans online. “We came back about three months later, and on YouTube, we had, like, a million hits, so it seems like the people were speaking,” Prohgress said. Far East Movement got started in 2003, but it wasn’t until this year that they released their major-label debut, Free Wired. The LP was released October 12 and features a slew of collaborations with Snoop, Lil Jon and One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder. Have you downloaded “Like a G6” yet? Tell us in the comments! Nicki Minaj Reflects On Road To Success In ‘My Time Now’ Sneak Peek

Documentary airs Sunday, November 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV As Nicki Minaj heads further into the spotlight, MTV News is taking you behind the scenes of the MC’s increasingly hectic life. The documentary “My Time Now” follows the rap diva while she records her debut LP, Pink Friday, and shows fans rarely seen sides of the hard-edged hip-hop vixen as she reflects on her challenging past and faces her future as a potential hip-hop icon. The film will premiere Sunday, November 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, and fans can also check out the project on all of the MTV platforms, with exclusive previews on MTVNews.com and RapFix.MTV.com in the days leading up to the flick’s debut. On Friday (November 19), MTV’s “The Seven” hooked Minaj’s Barbie army up with an exclusive look at the doc. In the scene, the Young Money lyricist reflects on her long journey to the top and recalls getting fired from five waitressing jobs and gigs as a customer-service rep and an office manager. “I’ve been led down a lot of dead-end roads,” the hip-hop star says candidly, while footage of Minaj on the set of her “Right Thru Me” video plays. But she maintains that she held fast to her dream and told doubters that they will see big things from the Queens native. Over the course of the hour-long doc — filmed over three months — the spitter will also be seen buying her mother a spankin’-new house, sounding off on music-industry politics and gearing up for her performance of “Check It Out” with will.i.am during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show . Viewers will also gain insight into Minaj’s personal life, when cameras follow the MC on an emotional trip back to Trinidad and watch her reconnect with family she hasn’t seen in seven years but who have been following the “Your Love” lyricist’s rise to the top. The pink wigs and alter egos are gone as Minaj treats her family to shopping trips, braves throngs of screaming fans, remembers beloved kin she had to leave behind and recalls life as a young girl on the island with storybook ideas of the American dream. “I am amazed at what I’ve seen in this film,” Nicki Minaj said in a statement. “For the first time people will see Onika. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. To inspire. To encourage. To replace doubt and fear with fearlessness and hope. MTV and the incredible film crew behind this documentary has made a very special dream come true. This film is my heart & soul. The visual component to Pink Friday. My fans are the most incredible humans on this planet. Words could never translate my gratitude. Thank you for standing by me. It’s our time now.” Are you looking forward to getting behind the scenes of Nicki’s life? Let us know in the comments! Rapper’s debut LP hits Web less than a week early. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj Photo: Jeffrey Ufberg/ WireImage Pink Friday came even earlier than expected. Nicki Minaj’s debut album leaked online on Wednesday (November 17), less than a week before its scheduled release date. The project was originally slated to arrive on Friday (November 19) before shifting to November 23 and then finally settling on November 22. The Pink Friday tracks floating on the Web include collaborations between Nicki Minaj and A-list artist like Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake . On “Fly,” featuring Rihanna and produced by J.R. Rotem (Sean Kingston, Nicole Scherzinger), Nicki Minaj rhymes about chasing dreams over the slow, tickling number. “Such a heavy burden placed upon me,” Nicki raps. “But when you go hard, you name becomes yays, Yankee stadium with Jays and Kanyes.” “This song is a female empowerment song,” the female lyricist wrote earlier this week in her Pink Friday Diaries Facebook journal. “But then again, it’s not specific to just women. It speaks about flying, soaring high in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way. I speak about how the media has attempted to box me in and how that has made me feel suffocated.” The Harajuku Barbie and new GQ Man of the Year Drake trade rhymes on “Moment 4 Life,” where the Toronto lyricist continues to stoke the flames of the two Lil Wayne prot

Cash Money CEO thinks leaked single will take singer to ‘another level.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Baby Photo: MTV News So far, Nicki Minaj is batting .500 when it comes to her singles.
