In his first interview since the 2012 election results dealt him a tough defeat, GOP V.P. nominee Paul Ryan admits losing came as something of a surprise. “We thought we had a very good chance of winning,” the 42-year-old said. Paul Ryan Interview “You know, the polling and the data and all the people who are the smart people who watch this stuff — they had a pretty optimistic view on the night.” “So as you can imagine, it was a bit of a shock when we didn’t win.” As soon as the final numbers on Virginia and Ohio began coming in, says Ryan, “we knew,” adding that President Obama won reelection fair and square. “I’ll let the pundits decide exactly how he won,” says the Wisconsin Congressman. “The point is, [President Obama] got more votes than we did. That’s how he won.” “The president deserves kudos for having a fantastic ground game. And the point I’m simply making is, he won. He won fair and square. He got more votes.” “And that’s – that’s the way our system works. SpikeTV’s ‘Eddie Murphy: One Night Only’ comedy special airs tonight , Wednesday 11/14 at 10pm EST/PST so we caught up with his big bro Charlie to get the scoop before the premiere. BOSSIP: Thanks for talking to us Charlie, we watched some clips from the show and noticed you said your brother used to always kill you at playing “snaps” back in the day. Is that really true or did you get a few good ones in of your own? Charlie Murphy: I’m a comedian, my job is to make stuff funny. A lot of people ask me if the Rick James story is true, and I say do you believe that Will Smith saved the world in Independence Day ? Some things are meant to be entertaining, it shouldn’t matter if it’s true. When we did this tribute we told everyone involved, ‘This is not a roast, describe your experiences with Eddie Murphy and make it funny.’ BOSSIP: How did the personal relationship make this experience different for you though? Charlie Murphy: It was different as a comedian because your weapons are your jokes and if you’re told, “You can’t use any of your jokes,” you have an assignment to talk about this man right here. I was just thrilled to be in a lineup with heavyweights like Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, Russell Brand, Sam Jackson, Adam Sandler. For the level of comic royalty that was there it was incredible. You will probably never see another lineup like that. Who else would they do it for? Eddie has the perfect history and it brought all these people in one room. Stevie Wonder? Come on man! Eddie and Stevie had a classic moment. I was on a show that had Stevie Wonder in it! Stevie Wonder was a star when I was a child at home with my parents. And now I know Stevie Wonder! Imagine being a kid looking at ‘Soul Train’ watching someone and now you know this person. It’s a trip! You see how close him and your brother are… When they were singing “Higher Ground” it turned me out. That was like church almost! BOSSIP: You live in Jersey, were you affected by Hurricane Sandy? Did that affect your decision to take part? Charlie Murphy: I came from the blackout. My kids were in the hotel with a nanny, my dog was at my cousin’s house and then I had to fly to L.A. to do this show. The outfit I wore that night, I picked that outfit out in the pitch black. God helped me pick it out. I had gone and got me a tuxedo but I went to get it and the entire complex I purchased it from was closed. Six hours before my plane was supposed to leave. I thought about not going. Everything was in disarray and I went home and I was just about to call my agent and something said look in your closet. I went in with a flashlight and within three minutes I had the jacket. Everything I had to go with it was right there. I put it in my bag and made it to the plane. It was a great experience. BOSSIP: Do you have any plans to collaborate with Eddie on future projects? Charlie Murphy: No immediate plans to work together. Right now my plans are stuff I have to do. I refuse to move to the West Coast. Norbit, Vampire in Brooklyn and all that, those collaborations came about because of my close proximity on a daily basis. Things come up and I was talking to him because I was right there. When Eddie lived in Jersey that’s when we came up with those movies. And now he lives primarily in Los Angeles. BOSSIP: Why do you refuse to move to the West Coast? Charlie Murphy: Earthquakes. I love the West Coast, but I don’t want to be there when the real deal goes down. Earthquakes in California they have them sh!ts every week. All those “light tremors” may be a warning. A warning. Does anybody want to use that word? A warning. They have the ride over at Universal about an earthquake in California? That’s real smart. It’s unanimously agreed on that the big one hasn’t happened yet. It’s definitely going to happen and I don’t want to be out there when it does. I’ve been in earthquakes before. Once I punched this guy in his face, we were shooting Harlem Nights and we were on a soundstage. If you look up at the ceiling they have counterweights, big bags of sand that probably weigh 200 pounds. If one of them were to fall on your head, it’s a wrap. When the earthquake hit I saw that swaying back and forth and then I went to run and this man grabbed my arm and said “Don’t run.” He got punched in the face. Then I went to run and the earthquake stopped. He got stole on. Nobody is in charge when an earthquake hits, you try to do what you need to do and I’m going to do what I need to do. Whatever happens it’s what’s going to happen. I don’t ever want to experience that again. Pure comedy! So the good news is pouring in for Channing Tatum today. In addition to nabbing People’s Sexiest Man Alive honor, GQ magazine chose the Magic Mike star as its Movie Star of the Year, part of its annual Men of the Year issue. That means Tatum and his strong chin will be gracing at least two magazine covers in the coming weeks, and that’s got me wondering: where is the Twi-hard outrage over Robert Pattinson being snubbed? With the sun finally setting on The Twilight Saga , it’s remarkable that RPatz — who had the crowds thrilling and screaming at the Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere earlier this week— did not nab Sexiest Man honors once since 2008 when the film franchise debuted. Hugh Jackman graced People’ s cover in 2008; Johnny Depp in 2009; Ryan Reynolds in 2010; and Bradley Cooper in 2011. Pattinson, who seems more concerned with being an actor than a screen idol, probably isn’t terribly interested in such an accolade, and he’s in good company. Still, I’m betting Pattinson’s fans are feeling miffed right now, and I’d like to gauge the depth of that dissatisfaction by inviting them — and any other lover of big-screen beefcake — to vote for the actor they would crown the sexiest man alive if they were calling the shots at People . I’ve listed five choices, including Tatum, Pattinson and Gosling. The rest is up to you. But if you go back to 2010 Sexiest Man Alive Ryan Reynolds , the year that followed his anointing saw him star in the critically savaged Green Lantern, which, according to Box Office Mojo has only made about $20 million more (worldwide) than its $200-million production budget. The $3.5 billion Pirates of the Caribbean franchise may see another mega-star reprise in its fifth installment, and it may not just be Johnny Depp . Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards may return to the franchise after an invitation from Depp. Richards has bombarded the franchise in all four installments with his persona alone. Depp made no secret that the superstar musician inspired his flamboyant portrayal of Jack Sparrow since its launch back in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl . Richards took the cue and sailed into the role of Captain Teague in 2007 with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and again in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011). Now with a fifth return the swashbuckling franchise, even Depp is apparently awaiting Richards’ final ayyy or nay, though he teased that the plank has been lowered for his return. “I spoke to Johnny a couple of weeks ago and he said, ‘Are you up for another one?’ I can leave it at that because I know no more,” Richards told BBC 6 Music. “But I do have the costume! (It helps because) some kids who don’t know nothing (sic) about the Rolling Stones go, ‘There’s Johnny Depp’s dad! There’s Captain Teague, arrgh!” Keith Richards and the rest of his Rolling Stones crew have hit the big screen more recently in Brett Morgen’s documentary Crossfire Hurricane , which had a premiere bash last month at the BFI London Film Festival and is currently making the fest rounds. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are shifting their attention from Evil Dead to Angels of the Apocalypse. The filmmakers have teamed up with Good Universe to acquire multipicture rights to Susan Ee’s bestselling Amazon Publishing book series Angelfall. The project sounds like it has the potential to be a Hunger Games -type franchise. Raimi and Tapert will produce while Good Universe principals Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will take executive producer credits for what the players obviously envision as a film franchise. Lucy Stille of Paradigm brokered the deal. Ee, a lawyer-turned-writer, initially self-published Angelfall, and after being courted by a number of publishing houses chose to have her debut novel released through Amazon Children’s Publishing. The book became an instant success, topping Amazon’s Most Wished For Teen Book list and ranking fourth on the Young Adult best seller list just behind the Hunger Games trilogy. She will publish a second Angelfall book in fall 2013. If you’re not familiar with the universe Ee has created, here’s the Angelfall synopsis that was included in the announcement. My name is Ryan and I’m a guy Belieber. My twitter name is bakerboyy10. For years I’ve been trying to get Justin Bieber to follow me on Twitter, or trying to meet him. I’ve failed every time, until November 2, 2012. When I found out Justin was going on tour, I looked up where he would have the closest concert to me and that was in Louisville, Kentucky. I signed up for Bieberfever.com so I could get the pre-sale tickets. I asked my friend Amber is she wanted to go with me and she jumped to the conclusion. The day the tickets went on sale, I was in school and one of my teachers was kind enough to let me use her computer during class to get them. The tickets went on sale at noon. As soon as it was noon, I clicked refresh on ticketmaster and clicked on the VIP meet & greet package. I got the tickets and all I had to do was fill out the credit card information before the time ran out. The credit card was expired and I lost the tickets. I told my mom and she ended up buying the next best tickets which were the diamond package which meant I wouldn’t get to meet him. I was so upset. In my next class which was about 20 minutes later, we were supposed to be taking a test but I snuck on my iPad and tried one more time for the heck of it. Turns out there were some VIP meet & greet tickets left and I quickly clicked on them. I had 3 minutes to do it. I texted my mom and said, “Give another credit card number right now.” 30 seconds later she texted me all her credit card information. I typed it in with about 15 seconds to go and I ended up getting the tickets. I was so happy! I couldn’t believe I was finally going to meet my hero, my idol, and my biggest inspiration. I ended up getting a zero on that test but I didn’t care at all. I counted down to the days when I was finally gonna meet Justin. It was 5 months away. I couldn’t wait. But I had no choice. As the days rolled by, the day I’ve been waiting for was finally coming up. I ordered a customized shirt that had a picture of Justin from the Believe album with on the front with “Swaggy” above it, and my last name “Baker” on the back along with my Twitter name “bakerboyy10” below it. It was about $50. I know, that’s expensive but so worth it. On November 1st I was so excited I couldn’t concentrate in school at all. When I got bed that night, I couldn’t sleep at all. I was up until around 2am. I went to school and left at 12. Me and my friend Amber went to McDonalds then went to my house to wait for my mom to pick us up. We left for the concert at 1pm. From Amelia, Ohio to Louisville, Kentucky it was about a 2 hour drive. The closer we got the more nervous I was. We finally got to the KFC Yum Center and we waited outside for about an hour to get in. They finally let us in and we had to check in for the VIP meet & greet. After we got everything we needed this guy who was with the tour led us to the meet & greet line. While waiting for Justin, we met Dan Kanter his guitarist, and Kenny Hamilton. Both of them were really nice and really cool. We were second in line to meet Justin. He finally arrived and was behind the curtain and the people in front of us went. After they were done it was our turn. This was it. I was finally gonna meet Justin Bieber. When the security guard opened the curtain me and my friend Amber walked in with our mom and dad behind us. Justin waked up to me, grabbed my hand, looked at my shirt and said “Swaggy” then he winked at me and smiled. I said “I’m Ryan” and he said “Nice to meet you.” He then went up to Amber and said “Hey beautiful.” She blushed and told him her name. After that, we got arranged for the picture. Justin put his arm around me and I did the same. After the picture I told him, “Thank you so much. This means so much to me, and I love your music. You’re my biggest inspiration. Good luck tonight. You’ll do great.” He smiled and said, “Thanks bro, that means really means a lot to me coming from you. You make me so proud.” He then patted me on the shoulder and then we had to leave. After we left from behind the curtain, we were handed an autographed vinyl copy of the album Believe. Then I started to tear up because Justin Bieber told me I make him proud. I couldn’t believe it. I was overwhelmed. After that we had to go back outside and wait for the doors to open to go to our seats. When we walked outside, all the girls saw me in tears and they all said “Awwww.” They all also asked me a lot of questions about the meet and greet. The concert was absolutely amazing. We were in the second row, section 3 so we were right up against the stage. We got pushed a lot to. Carly Rae Jepsen shook my hand twice on stage. Justin shook my hand 3 times on stage and he pointed at me twice. After the concert, I ended up getting one of Justin’s drum sticks. This was the best night of my life. I will always remember it. Remember anything can happen if you just Believe and Never Say Never. My dream came true and it can happen to you too. Just don’t give up! First off I just want to say I never in a million years thought I would be sitting at my computer writing MY story. For several years, I go on this website and read people’s stories wishing I could be them, and now its finally my turn. Several events lead up to the final moment when I met Justin. Firstly, back in April 2011 @shainedawson was making a video for Justin after he was upset with the paparazzi attacking him. I decided I would send in a video having NO idea Justin would see it. A week later, he tweeted “ http://www.twitvid.com/3CGFK ” and I was in the video!! (I come in at 5:11) Then in May 2011, Justin followed me on Twitter. Now back to how I met him, so it began when I rejoined bieberfever.com for the Believe tour, and there was a contest that most likely you all know, which was send in all of your Bieber memorabilia. At about 11:30 PM the day before the show, I got an e-mail saying I won and to this day I still can not believe how out of only 10 people picked, I won. After I spent all night deciding what to wear and because of shock, I only got about 5 hours of sleep the day before the show. I ended up wearing a tight black shirt; which later I will explain was the best choice I have made in my life, jeans, boots, and an owl necklace in honor of Justin’s tattoo. The day of the show we took a train from Portland to the TD Garden. Once we got there we went to the box office and picked up our tickets and went to go wait in line to meet him . When we got upstairs and were waiting in line, I met these two girls who were in their mid 20s. I talked to them for a while and we decided together we would go in as a group of 4. Once we got closer, we saw Kenny and talked to him. He is the sweetest guy ever and I showed him the gift I got for Pac and he laughed. I was like, “I got Pac this gift, it’s a bus so Justin can use it to take him to M&G and that is if he’s alive..” and then Kenny laughed and was like “Right.” Kenny actually talked to us for a while and I asked him if Justin was sad because of all of the Jelena drama and he was like no why and I was like oh well on Twitter everyone is saying he is. Then we were next to meet Justin. I handed the security guy who was opening the curtain my gifts, which was letters from beliebers all around the world and Pac’s gift. When the security guy opened up the curtain I blurted out “HE’S SO LITTLE” and the security guy laughed and then we went in. My dad decided to stay out of the photo and hold our bags, so it was just 3 of us. I went in and luckily I got to stand next to Justin. The guy took the picture and after, while his arm was still around me he TICKLED my waist. That ladies and gentlemen, is why I am glad I wore a tight shirt because I could feel his hand on my waist. At first, I was so confused and was thinking who is doing this and then I realized it was JUSTIN. After that, to Justin I went, “When are you coming to Maine?” (because that’s where I live) and he goes “What” and because it was sooo loud because all of the beliebers were screaming outside he couldn’t hear me. After that, the girl who was also in the picture proceeded to take her iPhone out and try to take a picture which is against the rules so they shoved her phone down and then made us leave. I never got an answer from Justin when he’s coming. When we walked out Kenny was standing there and I went up to him and was like did Justin lose his voice and he was like yeah a little bit. We then begged Kenny to take a picture with us because he was like “I can’t take pictures,” but then he finally gave in . Later in the night, I went to my seat, which I payed $700 for and I had to sit by myself because the ticket was so expensive. When I got down to my seat I was shocked because I was right by the catwalk! I sat in section C Row 14 Seat 12! I met a ton of other beliebers and never have I seen so many people cry. Justin went over to our side several times and touched the people’s hands in front of me. I decided to let them have the opportunity to touch him because I met him that day. All in all, I never dreamt this would be possible. All I have to say is never give up because I didn’t and look what happened I met him. I still can’t believe all of this happened and Justin looked so flawless I swear it wasn’t real. It was the best night of my life and I will never forget it.
