Returning to Chicago for treatment on his vocal cords, Write Me Back singer cancels New York appearances, a rep tells MTV News. By Rob Markman R. Kelly Photo: R. Kelly ‘s voice defined a generation, but now the iconic singer’s vocal chords are a source of concern for him and his team. One of Kelly’s reps told MTV News that the singer — who released his 11th studio album, Write Me Back , on Tuesday — was on his way into New York City for a series of press obligations and appearances when he began to experience some discomfort. With Kellz and his team about three hours from the Big Apple, the bus turned around to head back to Kelly’s hometown of Chicago, where he will see a specialist. TMZ reported that the singer’s discomfort stems from his emergency surgery in July 2011, where doctors had to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils. According to the site, Kelly had to cancel scheduled appearances on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and NBC’s “Today” show and a book-launch party. The Pied Piper of R&B’s reps tell TMZ they are unsure how long he will be sidelined. Kelly was busy promoting his upcoming book, “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me.” On Tuesday, Rolling Stone ran an excerpt from the book in which the Grammy Award-winning singer expresses his admiration for the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. He reveals that he and ‘Pac discussed the possibility of doing a Best of Both Worlds about six years before Kelly and Jay-Z released their collaborative work. Unfortunately, Tupac’s tragic murder put an end to that idea. Kellz did have the chance to work with the Notorious B.I.G., however. Together, they recorded a few songs, including 1995’s “(You to Be) Be Happy” and 1997’s “F— You Tonight.” Still, Biggie left his biggest impression when Kelly auditioned the legendary rapper for an unfinished version of “I Believe I Can Fly.” “I’m gonna tell you right now, B, that’s a smash. That’s a big hit right there. That’s a Grammy winner, Rob,” Kelly recalls a tearful Biggie saying. “They gonna be playing that when you and I have moved onto the other side of time.” Share your get-well message for R. Justin Bieber Nabs Year’s Biggest Chart Debut With Believe

Bieber’s latest sold more than 374,000 copies in its first week, edging Madonna’s MDNA to claim the title of year’s biggest bow. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber’s Believe Photo: Most predicted it , and now it’s official: Justin Bieber ‘s Believe scored the year’s biggest chart debut, selling more than 374,000 copies and blasting the competition on the Billboard Top 200. Believe — Bieber’s fourth album to debut at #1 — slightly edged Madonna’s MDNA, which sold 359,000 copies when it was released in late March, to claim the title of year’s biggest bow, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s also the best first-week number any album has posted since Adele’s 21 rode a post-Grammy surge to sales of more than 729,000 copies in February. Bieber’s album also sold nearly twice the copies as its closest competition, Kenny Chesney ‘s Welcome to the Fishbowl, which opens at #2 on the chart with an impressive 193,000 copies in its first week of release. Usually that number is more than enough to take #1, but not this week. Fiona Apple ‘s first album in seven years, The Idler Wheel, debuts at #3, selling nearly 72,000 copies, followed by another returning alt icon, the Smashing Pumpkins , who sold more than 53,000 copies of their Oceania to take #4. The “Rock of Ages” soundtrack rounds out the top five, selling nearly 49,000 copies. Usher, last week’s chart champ (and Bieber’s mentor), is in at #6 with his Looking 4 Myself album, which sold 48,000 copies in its second week. Adele ‘s aforementioned 21 lands at #7 (more than 47,000 copies sold), followed by One Direction ‘s Up All Night (more than 41,000 sold) and Luke Bryan ‘s Tailgates & Tanlines (nearly 28,000 sold). Rush ‘s Clockwork Angels closes out the top 10, selling nearly 27,000 copies. Other debuts on the chart include the Dirty Heads ‘ Cabin by the Sea, which opens at #18 with sales of nearly 18,000 copies, “Once” star Glen Hansard ‘s Rhythm and Repose (#21, more than 16,000 copies sold) and the soundtrack to Pixar’s “Brave,” which bows at #33, with sales of nearly 12,000 copies. And while the story of this week’s Billboard chart is unquestionably Bieber, next week could be a different story. He’ll face challenges from both Linkin Park ‘s LIVING THINGS and Maroon 5 ‘s Overexposed, both of which could make his reign a short-lived one. Can Bieber make it two weeks in a row atop the charts? We’ll just have to wait and see. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Justin Bieber Related Artists Justin Bieber

Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past…

Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past Decemeber while he was in Toronto for his Christmas show. Here’s my second encounter with Justin, and best one yet. My friends and I decided to get a hotel for MMVA weekend and were hoping to meet Justin when he arrived. Unfortunately, Friday night I was working when he flew in. Some people I knew from high school had the chance to meet him around the city , like at Pizza Pizza. They were so lucky! On Saturday, my friends and I had already planned to go out to a club DJ Tay James was hosting. We got on the guestlist once it was announced, not thinking of anything other than having a good time. Saturday was a night to remember. Not only did Tay DJ, but the crew, Jeremy, as well as Justin AND Selena came. I freaked out when I saw them. When “All Around The World” came on, EVERYONE went crazy. Selena got up off the couch and started to sing and dance with Justin. They were there for at least half an hour and then left. We didn’t think this night could get any better. Since it also happened to be Alfredo’s birthday, it was an awesome time and we all hung out for a while. Finally, the day of MMVA’s came. Earlier in the day we waited outside his hotel but didn’t even get one glimpse of him. There was way too many fans, paparazzi and he must have been in his hotel room doing radio, press, and rehearsals. This was really sad for all of us. We just wanted to at least see him somewhere. After waiting so long, we decided to go to the red carpet car line up to see Justin . We thought he would roll down the window to say hi since it was only 6 of us, but I don’t think he wanted to ruin the surprise for the red carpet of having Jazzy and Jaxon with him and Selena. All of us were quite disappointed because almost all of the weekend we just wanted to just see him. Finally, Monday morning came and we knew Justin would be going to NYC for his show. We had less than 5 hours asleep and got ready for 9 a.m. to go wait outside of his hotel. At around 10 a.m. there was a lot of commotion. We saw Moshe come back from Starbucks with Bruce and an extra drink. I wonder who it was for? He brought it into the hotel and then came back outside to see two fans who wanted pictures with him. About 10 fans were there and we kept seeing Moshe, Bruce (Justin’s grandfather) and Kenny. We saw luggage being put into a black suburban so we figured it would be Justin’s car. About 10 more fans came around 11 a.m. My friends and I were getting nervous because 20 people is quite a crowd. Luckily, minutes after 11am, Justin and Selena’s car pulled up. Selena went into the car right away and we thought Justin was too… We look again, and Justin handed his bag over to Moshe to put in the car and said, “I’m coming to take pictures!” He greeted ALL of us. He took time with each and every fan making sure they got a good picture and was so sweet. My friend Nicole and I told him that we were having a buyout that upcoming Saturday (@Toronto_Buyout), along with our friend Vanessa (@vanessaalove who was sadly at work). He perked up when he heard that and said, “A  buyout?! BUYOUTS are awesome!” I got my picture with Justin and he wasn’t rushing me or anyone. He just took his time and was SO polite. None of us were freaking out. We were all calm and took our turns, which probably made this a whole lot easier! I took pictures for about 8 other fans after me on their cameras and on mine to send to them. Justin and I kept making eye contact and now everything feels like such a blur. I keep asking myself, “Did that morning really happen?!” After I got my picture with Justin, I took one with Kenny! They were about to go to the airport to fly out to NYC. I’m honestly so thankful this happened. It was just perfect. Justin, if you see this, THANK YOU so much for taking the time to take pictures and talk to us. It made my day and this whole weekend was SO worth it. I LOVE YOU.  -@juliaaa_xo Original post: Hi, I’m Julia. I was lucky enough to meet Justin this past…

The Real Housewives of Orange County Recap: Things Fall Apart

Friendship bracelets, Pussycat dolls, Costa Rica, engagement rings, and cake-eating party crashers . This season of The Real Housewives of Orange County has had it all. Tonight, on the season finale, notes are compared and confrontations are had. Find out how it all goes down with our THG +/- review! Sarah’s still being a ball of drunken crazy about being picked on for breaking the cake. Over her. Minus 3. In two signs of the Apocalypse, Terry calls Brooks “a really nice guy” ( Minus 4 ) and Tamra decides to eat carbs ( Plus 4 ). To commemorate their five months of being friends, and as a tit-for-tat from the first episode , Gretchen gives Tamra a friendship bracelet. Each charm represents something special, but one heart represents how Tamra’s unbreakable. Tamra tells Gretchen she loves her and thanks her for being such a good friend. And then she cries again. While Tamra needs to lay off the booze tonight, it’s a nice moment for these ladies. Plus 10 . Sarah’s still whining about the cake and has the audacity to call Heather the rude one. Heather calls for the “heavy artillery”–a bunch of ladies in cocktail dresses and Terry–and says it’s time for Sarah to go. Plus 3. Alexis tries to get louder than everyone else to bring about a resolution and Slade speaks up as the voice of reason. There’s no need for a resolution. There’s a need for Sarah to leave because that’s what’s been asked of her. As they get Sarah to the door, the greatest line in all of reality television ever, or maybe just this season, falls out of Sarah’s mouth–“Is this the world we live in? Over a bleeping piece of tiny cake?” Yes, Sarah. Yes it is. Buh-bye. Plus 10. The party’s still rocking at Chateau Dubrow, and Vicki decides it’s time to “apologize” to Ryan for bringing him up in her fight with Briana. But in Vickiwood, apologize means “talk about yourself and make things all about how everyone else is wrong.” Minus 17. She thinks Ryan will help her get Briana back, but Ryan says this is really Vicki’s problem. Then she says “I love you. I don’t know you and you took my daughter away, but I love you.” Uh, thanks? Ryan loves you too? Minus 8. Alexis is rambling on to Brooks about how Jim isn’t there because he didn’t want to be there. And who sneaks in the door but Jim! Heather’s Drama-Senses are tingling and Alexis is chipper over Jim’s arrival. WAY chipper. Way more than just one cocktail chipper. Minus 11. Terry comments to a guest that Jim “grew a pair and showed up” right before he does the man-hug-handshake thing that men do. In Camp Gunvalson, Jeana’s daughter Kara sees Slade hug Tamra and is confused. Gretchen applies Tamra’s lipgloss (by kissing her) and Vicki goes traipsing across the yard. She thinks Tamra and Gretchen’s friendship is fake and calls Tamra a brown-noser. Let it go, Vicki. Gretchen’s just more fun than you. Minus 7. Slade offers up hsi services as bouncer again should Terry need them. He’s prepared to send Jim packing if he needs to. Terry asks if they’re okay and Jim says they’ll talk next week. Alexis says they should just talk now and in a complete douchebag move, Jim asks “really? Are you wearing the pants?” Minus 50. I just can’t stand this man. Jim and Terry go talk and Terry’s straight up with Jim. He thinks Alexis is phony and inauthentic. Plus 5 . Heather walks up and Jim nods in her direction and says this is the reason he wanted to talk next week. Jim’s got a problem with the women-folk. But, the talk continues. Until Tamra walks up. Then Jim’s out. Minus 10 , Tamra. This wasn’t your conversation to have. Alexis says Heather shouldn’t have even been in the conversation and it should’ve just been Jim and Terry, man-to-man. Actually, sweetheart, it should’ve been YOU and Terry because Terry talked about you. But whatever. Alexis goes out to talk to Jim and Jim’s pulling out of the driveway without her. She practically has to chase him down the driveway to get him to stop the car. Minus 12 . The gang’s all at the table now. And the booze is flowing. Vicki toasts to the absent Alexis and Tamra rolls her eyes. Brooks challenges her, saying she gave Vicki the “Evil Eye,” and picks a fight with Tamra on Vicki’s behalf. Gretchen says a fight’s been brewing between the two of them for months. Tamra and Brooks start to argue and then Vicki tells Eddie to get control of Tamra, which causes Tamra to tell Vicki to stop letting Brooks tell her what to think, which makes Vicki stand up and get in Tamra’s face. Can we cut the cake already? Maybe these ladies need some sugar. Vicki and Brooks prepare to leave and Tamra follows them to find out why they’re leaving. Vicki shouts that Tamra’s supposed to be her friend and how dare Tamra talk about Brooks and disrespect him and blah blah blah. Get a grip, Vicki. Tamra goes to find Briana after Vicki and Brooks leave and they compare notes. Neither of them like Brooks. Tamra’s crying. Briana’s ready to stick Brooks on a plane to Siberia. Ryan goes back into the house to get Briana away from Tamra so that Tamra can’t corrupt Briana while she and Vicki are “in a healing phase.” Minus 4. Heather goes out to get Vicki and Brooks and bring them back in for her special toast. Briana asks Vicki for Vicki’s side of the story. Suddenly, it seems Vicki saw Tamra roll her eyes and she chooses Brooks over her daughter. They all head back into the party for the final toast. Minus 12. Finally, we’re cutting this damn cake. Heather explains why they’re all there–shockingly, it wasn’t for the drama–she’s changed her name legally and wants to thank her friends, new and old, for coming out to support her. Heather’s classy. I like her. Plus 30. In the worst Vicki moment so far, she muscles her way into the circle to say, basically, “Congrats Heather. When I’m attacked, I fight back and I’m leaving and I’m choosing my man.” I’m surprised she didn’t drop a “my love tank is full” for good measure. Minus 20. Heather’s big surprise of the night–diamonds in the champagne glasses–goes over well. Tamra gets the lucky flute. Now she’s got a new rock to match the one Eddie gave her in Bora Bora. Closing notes: Tamra asks Heather to do shots. Not a good idea, Tamra. Heather says they don’t do shots. Tamra calls her Fancypants. In love, of course. Heather’s still opening up a restaurant. Eddie asks Ryan, Tamra’s son, to be his best man when Eddie and Tamra tie the knot. Tamra needs another drink. Briana says that she and Vicki’s relationship will really continue to suffer as long as Vicki keeps choosing Brooks. Briana and Ryan had a wedding for their friends and family. Briana’s also 6 months pregnant. Tamra and Gretchen are closer than Gretchen and Alexis.

‘American Idol’ Hopefuls Audition By The Thousands In Newark

More than 5,000 people auditioned on Saturday to see if they have what it takes to be the next Phillip Phillips. By Cory Midgarden Ryan Seacrest Photo: Exactly one month after crowning Phillip Phillips as Season 11’s “American Idol,” the hit television series is once again on the hunt for the next singing superstar. The auditions’ fourth stop drew more than 5,000 hopefuls to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday, all with dreams (or delusions) of hearing those four life-changing words: “You’re going to Hollywood!” Among the hopefuls “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest, who was confident in Seasons 12’s success. “We actually now realize we don’t know what we’re going to find, and that makes for the best season,” Seacrest said. “When we set out to find something specifically it doesn’t work out as well, so when we don’t know it usually works out best.” Although the show set its sights for nothing particular, many of the singers in attendance knew exactly what they had to offer the show. “I’m someone like Beyonc

Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine were kind enough to premiere the action-packed new music video during “MTV First: Maroon 5” on Monday (June 25), and during the Q&A that immediately followed that debut, Levine revealed that he happily took a beating to prepare for the boxing aspect of the shoot. “I had a little bit of training. I’ll never forget. During the little bit of training, I got the guy who was training me. He hit me, and it hurt,” Levine admitted. “I’ve never really been in a full-blown fight before, but the guy hit me pretty hard. I’m a wimp, so it was worse [for me] than someone who’s tough, but he hit me, and I was like, ‘Oww, man!’ ” Levine said the boxing in the clip, which was born from the video treatment Levine wrote himself and delivered to director Peter Berg , is a metaphor for how our romantic entanglements can sometimes feel like a fight. ” ‘One More Night’ was one of the songs that was more far along when we heard it,” Levine recalled of first hearing the Max Martin and Shellback-produced track. “Shellback, who did ‘Moves Like Jagger’ with us, it was one of those things that the instant we heard it as a group, we thought, ‘Wow.’ “I do love the lyrics,” Levine continued. “The metaphor that we spoke of earlier, a relationship between two people, sometimes when it’s not going so well, it feels like a battle.
