‘Your Highness’ Director Reveals Some ‘Nasty’ Deleted Scenes

‘Justin Theroux’s character, Leezar, lays an egg and a little dragon fetus comes out of it,’ David Gordon Green says of one sequence. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Ryan J. Downey David Gordon Green and Danny McBride on the set of “Your Highness” Photo: Frank Connor Given the unpredictable and improvisational nature of filming comedies — particularly those that involve jokesters Danny McBride, James Franco and director David Gordon Green (“Pineapple Express,” “Eastbound and Down”), it seems fair to assume that a fair amount of material filmed for “Your Highness” was left on the cutting-room floor. When MTV News caught up with the director recently, we asked him what omitted scenes might appear as part of the special features section on DVD/Blu-Ray. “There’s a lot of deleted scenes; all of them because we knew the movie needed to adhere to certain rules,” Gordon Green explained. “There was a really funny sequence that’s a musical sequence in the middle of the movie, of James on the quest, singing a song to Bella Donna who is Zooey Deschanel, up in the tower,” he explained. “[She] is singing back to her love to come and rescue her, and it’s really funny but it was one of the things when we test-screened the movie, we identified that as a point that broke the rules of the movie and it almost seemed like a ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch,” he continued. “It was really, really funny on its own, but within the rules of the movie, it all of the sudden feels false. So there are things like that that I definitely want to put on the DVD because they’re really enjoyable and I’m really proud of the work that we did to make it happen,” he said, adding that a few things felt a little too over-the-top, even for them. “We had another scene where Justin Theroux’s character, Leezar , lays an egg and a little dragon fetus comes out of it,” he recalled. “Literally, a massive nasty explosion of green goo comes out of his butt, followed by a disgusting egg and a little half-formed fetus, so things like that just felt [like] it was a little excessive in going for something that was heightened and gimmicky,” he said. “[But] that stuff is really fun to watch.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Your Highness.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘American Idol’ In 60 Seconds: Stop The Clock For Pia

Is it America’s fault Pia Toscano got the boot, or is it the judges’? By Jim Cantiello Pia Toscano on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Jim Cantiello’s “American Idol” in 60 Seconds recaps have been an institution at MTV News since Sanjaya’s Reign of Terror. But sometimes, the lightning-quick pace moves by so fast, you occasionally miss a joke, comment or sight gag. So, as a courtesy to our loyal watchers, we’re publishing the full script of Jim’s latest recap. This week, the top nine (and Scotty’s groupies) tackled rock and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists! [ Clip of Steven Tyler singing James Brown. And high kicking. For no reason. ] Wait, is Steven competing now? Can we vote him off? Will.i.am mentored the top nine while speaking in funny voices and refusing to make eye contact with them. [ Will.i.am exclaims, “Sammy!” ] Pia listened to the judges and finally did a fast song, Casey listened to the judges and finally did a bass song, and Jacob listened to his conscience and stopped a Gaye song. (Marvin Gaye, that is.) [ Clip of Jacob: “If I’m in the bottom three, it will be because America won’t be ready to look at themselves in the mirror.” ] [ Jim has a mirror at his desk. ] But Jacob, I am looking in the mirror. And my reflection’s telling me that your performance was terrible. But wait, can we go back to Pia and discuss that outfit? [ Clip of Michael Kors from old-school “Project Runway” saying, “The crotch on those pants is insane!!” ] Thank you, Michael Kors. On the results show it was headache [ shot of Russell Brand ], nightmare [ shot of Gwen Stefani giving fashion advice ], nausea [ shot of Harry Levin and his TMZ crew ], and then a sleazy rocker came back to relive his glory days when really everyone just wanted him to button up his shirt. [ Shots of Iggy Pop performing, but Jim cuts off the editor. ] Oh, no, no, no. I liked Iggy Pop. I was talking about Constantine. [ Clip of Constantine Maroulis: “Am i gonna get judged here?” ] Oh, you’re getting judged. And results!! Goodbye, Stefan-OH WAIT! Pia’s going home?! Stop the clock! [ Clip of a teary J.Lo: “I have no idea what just happened here. ] I’ll tell you what just happened here. You and your pals told Pia that she was perfect every week, when in actuality, she had the personality of wallpaper. But if you had done your job and given her notes to improve her stage presence three weeks ago, chances are Pia would have worked on that. She does, after all, strike me as a perfectionist. Maybe then, America would have fallen in love with her as much as they were in love with her voice. Steven, do you have anything to say for yourself? [ Clip of Steven Tyler: “A mistake is a mistake, but a lack of passion is unforgiveable.” ] This coming from the man who pretended to be asleep Wednesday night? Oh, hold my earrings. Randy Jackson, final thoughts? [ Clip of Randy: “I’m mad, and I don’t get upset!” ] Oh, you never get angry, do you? Well, you also don’t pay attention. Because you, of all people, should know that the cray-crays who vote a zillion times for their favorite contestant are mostly girls. And who have the girls been voting for, especially in the last three seasons? Boys! If only there was a way for you to protect the female talent, and saved that stupid judges’ save for someone with, you know, a vagina! Just sayin’! Hashtag it! And another thing, Randy Jackson. If you’re going to sit there and tell everybody that they’re amazing and beautiful and perfect and awesome, you have no right to act shocked or angry when the bottom three is announced. Don’t think I didn’t notice when you got all huffy once Haley was safe, even though the night before you said the old brilliant Haley was “back-ack-ack-ack-ack.” It is you three who need to look in a mirror. Boom fiyah! OK, you can start the clock again. [ The clock continues. ] Does anybody know when “The Voice” premieres? [ Ding! ] Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and their die-hard fans are up for awards at April 28 event. By MTV News staff O Music Awards Photo: MTV The typical awards show is packed with performances, celebrity appearances, red-carpet arrivals and, at some point, the presentations of the night’s biggest prize, usually just before the credits roll. The O Music Awards ? Not so much. The first-ever edition of MTV Networks’ latest awards extravaganza will take everything you know about awards galas, throw it in a blender, mash it up with an obscure black-and-white cartoon from the 1940s, add a Kanye West beat under it and maybe some adorable LOLcats and a snippet of “Friday” on top, post it on Twitter and watch it go mega-viral. Instead of just honoring the singers, songwriters, directors and producers who make our favorite digital-music products, the O Music Awards will dig deeper in such categories as Innovative Music Video, Fan Army FTW, Funniest Music Short, Innovative Artist, Must Follow Artist on Twitter, NSFW Music Video, Most Viral Dance, Best Independent Music Blog, Best Animal Performance, Best Performance Series and more to dig up the people behind your favorite online music and videos, professional, amateur or just plain awesome. Voting has now begun on the O Music Awards website , and like the best viral memes, it will be simple, social and transparent, with fans encouraged to vote via social media through a mobile voting wap site. You can follow the top vote-getters in the categories on a real-time leader board in the run-up to the April 28 event. Performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks. And unlike those other awards shows, the night’s biggest trophy might be handed out before the broadcast, during it or even after, to keep the conversation going. “There will be an event, but it won’t be a traditional awards show with a host, audience and a bunch of celebrities,” promised Shannon Connolly, vice president of music strategy for the MTV Music Group. “It will embody what the O Awards celebrates, which is being very interactive. We’ll have live performances, mash-ups, collaborations and it will be a Web event that will take place not just on MTV Music Group sites.” Lady Gaga and Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator lead with three nominations each, followed by Kanye West, the Flaming Lips and Nicki Minaj with two nominations apiece. Additional nominated artists include Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Justin Bieber, Lil B, Wiz Khalifa, Robyn, OK Go, Katy Perry and iamwhoiam. Notable nominees include Antoine Dodson/ Gregory Brothers (Funniest Music Short), the Lonely Island (Funniest Music Short), Funny or Die (Funniest Music Short), 50 Cent, Rebecca Black and Bert (Favorite Animated GIF), the Hype Machine (Best Music Discovery Service), Pandora (Best Music Discovery Service), Tiny Desk Concerts (Best Performance Series), Gorilla vs. Bear (Best Independent Music Blog) and Marshall Jones (Best Music Hack). Fans will definitely be front and center, with an entire category devoted to the Best Fan Cover, the most rabid online fan following (which will pit 30 Seconds to Mars’ Echelon against the Beliebers, Katy Perry’s Bandaids, Gaga’s Little Monsters and the followers of My Chemical Romance, Nicki Minaj, Tokio Hotel, Wiz Khalifa, Rain and Rihanna). There are also nods to the Best Fan Forum, Best Music Hack and Best Animal Performance. The Innovative Artist race is a tight one as well, including such nominees as the Flaming Lips, iamwhoiam, Kanye, Gaga, Lil B, Radiohead and Tyler the Creator. You’ll have to choose between the Dougie, the Pony, Lil B’s Cooking Dance and the “Whip My Hair” boogie in the Most Viral Dance category. In keeping with recent digital-music innovations from MTV Networks like MTV Hive and the Music Meter , Connolly said it was apparent that the time was right to create an awards show that moved at the speed of the Net. “Music consumption has never been greater, and it’s hugely important to our audience,” she said. “We felt like the time was right to look at the convergence of technology and music fans and the YouTube celebrities who’ve created this new ecosystem where music is exploding.” Voting starts today for the O Music Awards . Pia Toscano Unleashes Rock And Roll Mettle On ‘American Idol’

‘You killed it!’ judge Steven Tyler says after calling ballad-loving finalist a ‘murderer.’ By Adam Graham Pia Toscano performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX Pia Toscano finally broke out of her comfort zone on Wednesday’s (April 6) “American Idol,” stepping away from torch-song balladry and moving into more uptempo territory, a transition the judges have been urging her to make for weeks. She did so by scaling, on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night, one of the grandest songs in pop music history: Ike and Tina Turner’s towering “River Deep – Mountain High.” The 1966 offering was considered by its producer, the legendary Phil Spector, to be his finest creation, and its subsequent failure in America helped kick-start his slow decline. It was ultimately recognized as a masterpiece, though its initial reception caused Spector to go into seclusion, sliding into a deep depression that would later consume him. Mentors Jimmy Iovine and will.i.am — the latter making his third guest appearance of the season — knew what was at stake for Toscano, who has made her mark in the competition by hitting glory notes in huge ballads (Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself,” Whitney Houston’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”). The Black Eyed Peas frontman warned her not to go out there “like Madonna singing Tina Turner, ’cause you’re just like, ‘What, boo?’ ” Iovine, meanwhile, said she had to go out and attack the stage. “Pia’s gotta get pissed off tonight,” he said. Toscano wanted to make a lasting impression as well. “I wanna shock everybody,” she said. “I can’t wait to show that other side to me, that performer.” However, it was that performer side that struggled to shine through. Toscano’s vocals were spot-on, and she showed she can keep up with a song when the beats per minute are cranked up past slow-dance terrain. But her moves were timid and she lacked spark onstage, which especially stood out when taking on Tina Turner, of all performers. When the judges weighed in, they urged her to focus on her physical presentation of the song. “Vocally, you proved to us — you proved to everybody — you can sing an uptempo,” Jennifer Lopez told her, but added that the New York native needs to “get that performance into it.” Randy Jackson, too, said she needs to “work on the movement,” but praised her overall. “Pia’s in it to win it!” he beamed. And Steven Tyler — on what was by and large one of the softest nights of critiquing in “Idol” history — labeled Toscano a murderer. “You killed it!” he gushed. “Pia, you’ve gotta know, there’s a million guys out there in a million bars havin’ a million drinks about you tonight.” Overall for Toscano, an important step was made during the show. Now that she has proved she can do something other than ballads, she’s moved one huge mountain out of her way in the competition. What did you think of Pia Toscano’s “Idol” performance? Jimmy Fallon’s “Dance Avenue” Spoofs “Soul Train” [VIDEO]

Here is the original post:

On last night’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon , Jimmy and the gang poked fun at Soul Train by showing a pre-taped sketch called “Dance Avenue” that spoofed the legendary Soul Train Line. Jimmy and members of Late Night ‘s house band, The Roots , participated in the sketch by donning Soul Train inspired costumes and dancing down the line.  The Roots’ ?uestlove , an admitted Soul Train geek, certainly had his hand in making this spoof as authentic as possible.  Keep an eye out for such Soul Train staples like a dancing Asian lady, and a random dancer wearing an E.T. costume.  Honorable mention definitely goes to The Roots’ Black Thought in his captain’s outfit. We also gotta give props for the song the band recorded specifically for the show, “Doing Lines,” an obvious double entendre referencing the Soul Train line and the ever-present 80′s drug of choice, cocaine. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Results: Wendy Williams Foxtrots Home

Talk-show host jokes about her lack of rhythm ‘despite stereotypes,’ after getting eliminated. By Kelley L. Carter Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani Photo: ABC There wasn’t much of a surprise on Tuesday night’s elimination show of “Dancing With the Stars.” In spite of all of the chatter about Kirstie Alley’s quick fall on the dance floor on Monday night’s show — the judges thought she and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy recovered quite nicely — it was talk-show host Wendy Williams who was given the boot. This week, the celebrities were challenged to dance to a song that told a story about themselves, and Williams chose a foxtrot to “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life,” connecting it to her early dreams of having a radio career. The judges told her on Monday night that she lacked fluidity and thought that she took a step backwards from the previous week’s performance. The funnywoman (whose partner was Tony Dovolani) went out with a bit of graceful humor, joking about her 15-point score and her lack of natural rhythm. “I’m probably the busiest person in terms of flying back and forth. In addition to that, I have a marriage and a child and a litany of other things to hold together,” Williams said, talking up her hectic schedule with taping her talk show in New York while also dancing in Los Angeles, where the ABC reality show tapes. “But this has been a wonderful opportunity.” She also thanked Dovolani “for teaching me how to dance. Despite stereotypes, this is one black girl who can’t do the running man! I got to do this in front of millions of people! With that said, I’ll do the rest of the talking tomorrow, on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’!” Related Photos The 2011 ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Cast’s Movie Past ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 12 Cast Revealed

Are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on a Break?

Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon presented Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards and looked adorable while doing it. But is there an ugly story behind this event? According to Great Britain’s The Daily Mirror , Kristen Stewart was originally scheduled to accompany Robert to the ceremony. However, she did not show up because the couple is ” on a break .” While Stewart, Pattinson and the Twilight Saga cast are filming Breaking Dawn in Vancouver, Rob is often away from set in order to promote Water for Elephants . Their lack of time together has caused a rift, an insider claims: “The excuses why they couldn’t meet up basically got weaker and weaker, and Rob figured they should officially cool things off and have some time to figure out what they each want. “There have been a few tears but the pair remain friendly. Kristen is hopeful of a reconciliation once Rob has finished promotion for his latest movie. But as things stand, they’re on a break and just mates.” Then again, the couple was spotted together on a date just a few weeks ago. So we’ll leave it up to readers whether or not they wish to believe this latest rumor.
