Usher Talks Grammy Night with Justin Bieber The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards are this Sunday (February 13) and Usher and Justin Bieber are pumped for the night’s festivities. The “OMG” singer and the “Baby” pop sensation will perform together along with Jaden Smith, and it’s gonna be hot. Usher told press at last night’s Belvedere bash, “Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn’t want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here.” “And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the story of how we came together. This music business has definitely been good to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be happy for.” He continued, “The performance will be fun. We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a great time. … This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn’t believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He’s going to play acoustically, and also, we’ll get down a bit.”

News that she has agreed to allow the current restraining order against ex Chris Brown to be relaxed. The “S&M” singer requested the order to be bumped down to a level one, which would mean that the two are allowed to contact each other as long as Brown doesn’t harass or annoy his superstar ex. E! reports that Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, is aware of the request but needs to head to the court for a judge to officially change the original order. Judge Patricia Schnegg put the protective order into effect in August 2009 after Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend. The restriction mandated that the former couple were barred from communicating with each other and that they must maintain their distance if they were to attend the same event. Rihanna’s request comes after a January 28 status hearing during which it was revealed that Brown’s “stay away” order would likely be reduced to a “do not annoy” order. Brown completed a yearlong domestic-violence course in December and has been lavished with praise by Schnegg for his progress during his status hearings. “Of all probationers I’ve ever had, and I’ve had thousands of probationers, no one has ever done a better or more consistent job than you have,” Schnegg said during a November hearing . “And I really want to commend you for taking responsibility, and for actually working diligently to complete all of the things the court has required of you.” While the exes can be in contact now, a reunion on Grammy night — Brown’s assault on Rihanna happened just before the Grammys in 2009 — remains unlikely. Rihanna will hit the stage, but while Brown is nominated, he is not scheduled to attend. Well, this year she’s back and ready to once again set the Grammys on fire. The ” Jersey Shore ” star is set to return as one of MTV News’ Grammy red-carpet correspondents, getting all the dish from some of the world’s biggest names in music. And for the first time, she and co-host Sway will anchor “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys” from the event. The show will be live-streamed on MTV.com for two hours (6-8 p.m. ET), with the pair talking to all the night’s big attendees, presenters and performers. So, who does Snooki want to meet this year? “I’m very excited to see Bruno Mars,” she told MTV News. “Lady Gaga, Drake, Nicki Minaj, like all the top artists are my favorite, so hopefully I’ll get to interview all of them.” With some experience under her belt, Snooki plans to use the skills she’s acquired since last year to step up her interviewing game. “I did do the interviews with the Grammys last year, and I really had no idea what was going on,” she admitted. “This was all new to me. So now, being in it for a year, I know what to expect. And I’m gonna study a little more [about] what people are up for and who they are. I’m not gonna be like, ‘Yo, Kings of Leon, who are you?’ That’s what I did last year! By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage This Sunday, the titans of the music industry will convene on the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards , the annual celebration of back-slapping, glad-handling and, of course, melisma . And while most of you are probably just tuning in for Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s annual keynote address, I’ll be watching this year’s Grammys largely for the same reason I’ve watched them every year: to see if my predictions come true. See, for just about as long as I’ve had this column, I’ve been making Grammy picks . It’s an annual tradition, mostly because I love the Grammys — just about as much as I love gambling. And with a field of nominees that includes everyone from Eminem to Pinetop Perkins — not to mention a few of my favorite artists (Yay Robyn! Yay Arcade Fire!) — this year’s Grammys are shaping up to be the wildest in recent history. And when you couple that fact with my insatiable, downright destructive desire to wager, well, let’s just say this column practically wrote itself. Of course, since there are something, like, 4,236 Grammy categories (approximately), I’m once again forced to limit my picks to the so-called Big Four: Album, Record and Song of the Year, plus Best New Artist (but just in case you’re wondering, Amy Hanaiali’i and the Slack Key Masters of Hawaii are my lead-pipe lock in the “Best Hawaiian Music Album” category). So here, for your betting pleasure — and my own personal demons — are my picks for the 53rd Grammys: Album of the Year

‘We feel like there’s a way to make it a little extra-special,’ Mike Shinoda tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington Photo: MTV News There’s not much that makes Linkin Park nervous — at least not anymore. But back in 2007, on the eve of the release of their Minutes to Midnight album , the band performed on “Saturday Night Live.” And, for the first time in a long time, LP were very, very skittish. “The first time we did it, I was really nervous and really skeptical. I love the show, it’s very funny, but we have no control over the sound, you have people that may or may not know who the band is, they may or may not like the band, so you’re coming in, working with a crew you’ve never worked with before,” Chester Bennington said. “And, on a TV show, it’s got to be really, really great [in the studio] in order to come across pretty good on TV, and that freaks me out. So I was really nervous the first time … wanting to find a way to work with everybody and not piss people off.” Needless to say, things went off without a hitch, and all was right with the world. Fast-forward to Friday (February 4), when Linkin Park were back in New York for another performance on “SNL.” This time around, they’ve got another album to support — last year’s voluminous A Thousand Suns — and, perhaps telling how far they’ve come, they’re not nervous in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact. “I’ve been watching ‘SNL’ forever, I love ‘SNL,’ and actually, one of the jokes for me is, the first time we played it, [the host] was Molly Shannon, and this time it’s Dana Carvey. I guess we’re the band that brings the classic castmember back,” Mike Shinoda laughed. “So I’m looking for, like, some Chevy Chase action … next time. Give us a call when Steve Martin is gonna be on, and we’ll be happy to keep the torch held high.” In all seriousness, Linkin Park are planning big things for their performance, which will incorporate elements of their ongoing arena tour and, in the process, might just break a few barriers too. “I think lately people have been pushing the envelope with that show, and on TV in general, and for us especially, we feel like there’s a way to make it a little extra-special,” Shinoda said. “So we have a couple of things planned for ‘SNL’ this time that are unique for us and, I’m pretty sure, unique for their show.
