Jeff Bridges Shaves His Beard For An SNL Promo, Because Why Not?

I’ve found Saturday Night Live a tremendous bore this season, but it’s hard to beat the pure Dadaist thrill of the most random promo I’ve ever seen. Jeff Bridges shaves his beard. That’s it. That’s brilliant. Video after the jump.

Lil Wayne And Eminem: Relive The MCs’ Past ‘SNL’ Glory

Before the duo hit the ‘Saturday Night Live’ stage, we look back on the rappers’ previous guest turns. By Paul Cantor Eminem and Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Lil Wayne and Eminem are set to appear as musical guests on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. Em and Wayne collaborated earlier this year on singles — Em on Wayne’s “Drop the World” and Wayne on Em’s “No Love” — and there’s a possibility they’ll perform both songs on the show. But this is far from either artist’s first tour of duty at Studio 8H. Here, we take a quick look back at the rappers’ past ‘SNL’ glory. September 2008 : Lil Wayne appeared one time, back in ’08, in an episode hosted by Olympian Michael Phelps. At the time, his album Tha Carter III was one of the year’s biggest sellers. Backed by the ‘SNL’ band and his Cash Money cohort (and current Young Money president) Mack Maine, Wayne performed “Got Money.” Decked out in a black leather biker jacket and violet-colored skinny jeans, Weezy ran through the song before introducing Mack, who closed the set. Wayne returned for “Lollipop,” dressed in a white V-neck T-shirt and grey jeans. He sang with a green-and-white electric guitar strapped to his torso and noodled his way through a few (out-of-key) chords toward the song’s close. October 2004 : Em’s history with ‘SNL’ stretches back to 1999, and he would continue to pop up on the sketch show over the years. In 2004, he appeared on an episode hosted by Kate Winslet. Wearing an oversize Detroit Tigers jersey, and flanked by D12 member Proof , Eminem performed the hilarious, bouncy “Just Lose It.” In a more serious moment, he also rapped “Mosh.” Dressed in all black, he passionately spit his George Bush-protest song, imploring viewers not to re-elect the U.S. president come Election Day, which was just weeks away. Then in May 2002 , Em guest-starred on an episode hosted by Kirsten Dunst, doing only one song this time, “Without Me.” The now-deceased Proof was Em’s hypeman on this stop too. Em also showed off his acting chops — his “8 Mile” was only a few months from its November release — taking part in an ‘SNL’ sketch , in which he played himself. October 2000 : In an episode hosted by Rob Lowe, Em made his first solo ‘SNL’ appearance. The Detroit MC was riding high off the success of The Marshall Mathers LP that year, and he performed two of the album’s biggest hits, “The Real Slim Shady” and “Stan.” For “Stan,” he brought along Dido, who sang the song’s hook as Em waved his hands side to side. October 1999 : Eminem turned up on ‘SNL’ for the very first time alongside his mentor Dr. Dre back in the fall of 1999, in an episode hosted by Norm Macdonald. Dre brought Marshall along for a performance of “Forgot About Dre.” In baggy jeans, backward cap and puffy, goose-down jacket, Em spit his multisyllabic flow and bounced along to the catchy Dre beat. What do you hope Wayne and Em will perform on “SNL” Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Lil Wayne Eminem

Nicole Kidman on Rabbit Hole and How the Oscars Changed Her Life

Nicole Kidman didn’t have to search far to find a visceral connection to the character she plays in Rabbit Hole , a woman rendered utterly devastated by the accidental death of her young child. She had given birth to daughter Sunday Rose while the film was being developed from David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play and knew the timing was right precisely because of how much the material scared her.

Amy Locane Indicted For Manslaughter

Former Melrose Place star Amy Locane was indicted by a grand jury on charges of aggravated manslaughter for a June car crash that killed a motorist. “I believe that the aggravated manslaughter charges against Amy Locane are inappropriate and misplaced,” Locane’s lawyer, Blair Zwillman, tells E! News . “I believe that when all of the facts of the incident become known, Amy will be acquitted. She has confidence in the criminal justice system.” According to the original criminal complaint, Amy Locane admitted to police that she had been drinking wine before getting behind the wheel . At around 9 p.m. on June 27, her 2007 Chevy Tahoe hit the passenger side of Fred Seeman’s 2010 Mercury Milan as he was turning into a driveway. Helene Seeman, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was killed at the scene, according to poilce. Authorities also said the fatal crash was Locane’s second accident of the night. She was already suspected of rear-ending another vehicle miles away. Locane, who just made our celebrity mug shots gallery as aresult, is facing up to five years for assault charge and 10-30 years for manslaughter.

Eminem Is MTV News’ #2 Man Of The Year

Em raised the bar in 2010, thanks to a blockbuster album, hometown stadium shows and awards galore. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage If there’s one thing we’ve learned by now about Eminem , it’s this: Never count him out. The 38-year-old Detroit legend seemed like he was in a career funk last year with the release of the long-awaited but unevenly dark Relapse, which chronicled his near-death experience with drug addiction and left some fans a bit worried about whether he’d finally run out of lyrical magic tricks. But what a difference a year makes. Near the end of 2009, we began getting excited about the promised, more “emotionally driven” sequel, Relapse 2. Twelve months and an entirely different album later, Eminem has the year’s best-selling release, handfuls of Grammy nominations and a fresh-eyed take on life that can only bode well for his next musical adventure. 2010 Highlights : As 2010 dawned, February brought Em joining Drake, Kanye West and Lil Wayne for a rousing, bleep-tastic performance of “Forever” at the Grammys with a tease of “Drop the World,” his hookup with Weezy that hit screens and iPods a month later, bringing together two of hip-hop’s biggest names for a rough-and-ready cut. He killed it again with his verse on B.o.B’s “Airplanes Pt. 2” and then the shocking news broke April 14 that “there is no Relapse 2. ” Fans were dumbstruck, but not for long, as the MC clarified later that day that he would be dropping a whole new album called Recovery on June 22. April’s release of the first single, “Not Afraid,” provided proof that Slim Shady would be taking a more positive, uplifting approach on his sixth major-label album, an encouraging note hammered home by lyrics on the song in which the rapper admitted that Relapse wasn’t his best work . In the run-up to the release, “Not Afraid” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and there was more cause for celebration when Jay-Z and Marshall announced a slate of hometown stadium shows , which would represent one of the few live appearances the Detroit spitter would make in 2010. Then, despite leaking two weeks early, Recovery easily notched the highest debut of the year to date when it moved a gargantuan 741,000 copies in its first week, topping the charts for nearly two months on its way to selling more than 3 million copies to take the sales crown for 2010. After crushing it with “Not Afraid,” Em struck platinum again with an even bigger hit, his domestic-violence ballad “Love the Way You Lie,” a duet with Rihanna that featured an iconic video starring Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as the song’s protagonists. August brought a hefty eight VMA nominations and September the long-awaited shows with Jay, which found rap’s two biggest headliners torching the stage for thrilled fans in Detroit and NYC . In between the gigs, though, Shady found time to open up the VMAs with performances of “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” with a surprise cameo from Rihanna on a night when he took home two Moonmen. By October, Em was talking about being in the lab with mentor Dr. Dre working on the latter’s long-awaited Detox album and topping MTV News’ Hottest MCs in the Game list . Eminem was also getting more shine for his duet with Nicki Minaj on “Roman’s Revenge” from her Pink Friday debut and another collabo with Rihanna on her track “Love the Way You Lie (Part II).” As 2010 came to a close, he could be heard on T.I.’s “That’s All She Wrote” and had locked down a “Saturday Night Live” appearance with Lil Wayne for December 18. He wasn’t done yet, as he led all artists with 10 Grammy nominations , landed at #9 on MTV News’ Top Songs of 2010 with “Love the Way You Lie,” took top spots on the album-sales chart on iTunes and Amazon.com and inked a deal to play a boxer in the “8 Mile” inspired “Southpaw.” Not bad, right? Taylor Swift Is MTV News’ #3 Woman Of The Year

Swift fell in and out of love through song, but we never stopped loving the superstar in 2010. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: AP/Matt Sayles After a year as impressive as 2009, Taylor Swift followed suit in 2010. She toured the world, released a chart-topping album and even starred in her first feature film. Swift kicked off the year winning awards and ended it dominating the charts, and in between, she never looked back. (They’re more than just pretty faces, but you can still check out photos of our Men and Women of 2010!) Swift proved that she was more than just a crossover coincidence thanks to catchy songs and girl-next-door charm that appeals to the masses. She managed to scoop up awards and be surprised by each win. The other shoe isn’t going to drop anytime soon, and 2010 proved that. 2010 Highlights : In January, Taylor took home her first People’s Choice Award and covered Better Than Ezra’s “Breathless” at the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon. She also broke Britney Spears’ record for first-week download sales by a female artist thanks to her tune “Today Was a Fairytale.” But it was February that would truly leave her breathless. At the Grammys in February, Swift took home four trophies , including Album of the Year. She also hit the stage with Stevie Nicks at the awards show. Weeks later, she would rule the box office alongside former beau Taylor Lautner in “Valentine’s Day.” Swift spent much of 2010 on tour, but along the way, she racked up nominations at a slew of awards shows, including the Academy of Country Music Awards and CMT Awards . In the spring, she revealed that she was working on her next album and that, unsurprisingly, it would focus on “boys and love.” In July, the singer announced that her next album would be out in October and that she wouldn’t hold back on the aptly titled Speak Now. Weeks later, in August, the album’s first single, “Mine,” leaked online and then soared to the top of the charts. “I was reflecting back on a boy I liked at a certain time,” she said about the song. The video was released at the end of August and showed a more adult side of the singer. Then September rolled around and Swift took the stage at the VMAs . It was a defining moment for the singer, as she publicly let go of the Kanye West incident from a year prior and buried the hatchet with the rapper thanks to her heartfelt performance of “Innocent.” Swift later explained , “I had a lot of options going into the VMAs: You can not go, you can perform your current single, you can pretend that nothing happened or you can say what you need to say at the time you need to say it.” By early October, Swift was pre-releasing Speak Now tracks, prompting speculation about whether the songs were referring to famous exes like Taylor Lautner and Joe Jonas . “I’ve never kept quiet the fact that I write songs about people,” she said. “It’s like, this is album number three. You guys have had fair warning!” For the album’s release, Swift invited fans to her album-release party , and just one week later, she found out that Speak Now had sold 1,047,000 units in its first week, making it the biggest album release in five years . Swift capped 2010 with performances at the CMA Awards and the American Music Awards , announcing a world tour , embarking on a whirlwind romance with Jake Gyllenhaal and turning 21 . Not a bad year, to say the least. We’ll be rolling out our Top Five Men and Women of 2010 all week, until we unveil MTV News’ Man and Woman of the Year on Friday.
