Justin Bieber, Usher Ignite Crowd At KIIS-FM’s Wango Tango

Ludacris, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert also on festival bill. By Matt Elias Justin Bieber performs at Wango Tango 2010 Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images KIIS-FM’s annual Wango Tango festival stormed Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday night. While the energy was massive inside the sold-out arena — with a bill that included Usher, Justin Bieber , Ludacris , Ke$ha , Akon , Adam Lambert and David Guetta — it was equally buzzing backstage with artists and entourages mixing it up. Maybe they enjoyed themselves a little too much, as Ke$ha joked that she had already made out with glam-man Adam Lambert by the time she made it to our interview. She was also looking forward to corrupting pint-sized popster Bieber. No doubt she was excited to take part in the show, which has become an institution in the music industry and a signal that artists have made it. “I’m gonna treat it like a big fun summer dance party,” Ke$ha told MTV News. “But I have to say, it’s an honor [to perform] and I’m a little nervous.” Sharing that excitement was Wango Tango veteran Ludacris, who shouted, “Three-peat! Three-peat!” He continued, “This is my third time doing it, so it feels good to have done it that many times.” While the artists were amped to participate, KIIS-FM DJ and multitasker Ryan Seacrest shared what was really setting the vibe backstage. “The vibe is ‘Where is Justin Bieber?’ — that’s the vibe,” Seacrest said. “All the girls that are hanging out here, even the ones that work for us, are like, ‘Have you seen him?’ I’m like, ‘I’m right here.’ They’re like, ‘No, no. Justin Bieber.’ ” When Bieber took the stage later in the night, he sent the Staples Center into an uproar. He was welcomed onstage by some people who know a thing or two about screaming crowds: Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and other cast members of the upcoming “Twilight” film “Eclipse.” The 16-year-old Canadian sensation started his seven-song set with “Love Me,” an ode to the ’90s greatness of the Cardigans’ “Lovefool.” Bieber, wearing a gray military jacket and a set of dog tags around his neck, followed with “One Less Lonely Girl.” To the envy of every teen girl in the crowd, Justin serenaded a lucky female fan onstage and handed her a bouquet of flowers, giving her a big hug at the end. Next up in Bieber’s arsenal were “Somebody to Love,” “U Smile” and “One Time.” Then, in one of the most impressive performances of the night, Bieber sang and danced along to Michael Jackson’s classic “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ ” while his dancers took turns doing freestyle dance moves. Backed by a live band, the medley then shifted into Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.” Bieber proclaimed, “Put your rock stars in the air!” and the crowd raised their hands up in the famous devil horns gesture. During the cover, bandmembers took turns doing solos, ending with Justin on the drums playing a solo of his own. If the crowd hadn’t gotten enough, Justin closed his set with “Baby,” the biggest sing-along of the night. Ludacris quickly followed Bieber with a slew of hits, including “Stand Up,” “What’s Your Fantasy” and “My Chick Bad.” British singer Taio Cruz joined Luda onstage for their current hit “Break Your Heart.” From one Atlanta artist to another, Usher followed up Luda’s set with a nearly hour-long performance that spanned his entire catalogue. Usher worked hard all night, dancing and sweating through his set. Most impressive, though, was his voice, which wasn’t aided by a backing track. The Raymond v. Raymond singer tore through early favorites like “Caught Up,” “You Make Me Wanna” and “U Remind Me.” But when Usher went all the way back to “My Way,” things really heated up. He pulled off some suggestive crotch grabs reminiscent of his idol Michael Jackson before getting down on the ground with a mic stand and doing things that would make Justin Bieber blush. The crowd ate it up. “Love in This Club” and “Lil Freak” made the temperature rise so much that Usher had to rip off his vest, apparently forgetting that his headset mic was wired through it. He had to take a moment to unplug, the only hiccup of the night. No need to worry, the Staples Center was with him. He closed the night with “Yeah!” and current hit “OMG,” while a shower of confetti rained down on the sweaty masses. Chris Brown Plays To Packed House At Virginia Benefit Concert

‘Everyone has to do their part,’ singer said before show, which will provide aid to Haiti and to needy in Virginia. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown performs at “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” benefit for continued relief in Haiti Photo: MTV News RICHMOND, Virginia — Chris Brown headlined the “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” benefit concert on Saturday night, and the superstar singer couldn’t have been more giving, doing his best to please the packed house. “Can I slow it down for the ladies?” Brown asked the shrieking audience, comprised mostly of females and local supporters. “I mean really slow it down.” With that, the energetic crooner jumped off the stage and walked through the crowd singing “Say Goodbye” to his fans, shaking as many adoring hands as he could along the way. “There’s never a right time to say goodbye,” he sang. “But we know that we got to go our separate ways.” Things at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center were just getting started, though. Brown ran through selections from all three of his albums, including early hits from his 2005 self-titled debut such as the chipper “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” and “Gimme That.” T-Pain , who performed earlier in the night (as did Trey Songz , Keri Hilson , Mario , Tank and Ryan Leslie ) joined Brown for his guest spot on the booming “Kiss Kiss.” Brown, who celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month, exercised his status as a more mature artist by bringing a young woman onstage with him. The fan, decked out in a snug dress, ditched her high heels and sat in a reclining chair on the stage as Brown serenaded her. The hometown Brown quickly transitioned into the steamy “Take You Down,” off Exclusive, removing his jean jacket (he was shirtless underneath) and straddling his guest for some enthusiastic dance moves that would have made Bobby Brown blush. The event was part of a charitable mission organized by Brown to help with continued relief efforts in Haiti following the devastating January earthquake. The singer partnered with the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Central Virginia Food Bank and recruited a slew of hip-hop and R&B stars to help out. Lil Wayne prot

Real Housewives of NYC Reality Check: Money Can’t Buy You Class… But it Can Buy You Autotune

Last week on Real Housewives of New York City , Bethenny mourned her estranged father from a Cadillac Escalade en route to hell and LuAnn cruised a jittery fellow named Cort who may or may not be gay. In this week’s episode, whimsically titled “Housewives Overboard,” LuAnn went down to Chinatown with Court (not a euphemism, she actually did venture to Canal Street), Ramona found her soulmate on a Hooters yacht, and for the first time in television history, someone misused the phrase “making lemons out of lemonade.” Those goodies, as well as the truest and fakest moments of the night, after the jump.

Lady Gaga Joins Bruce Springsteen, Elton John At Sting’s Rainforest Benefit

Gaga performed duets of ‘Speechless’ and ‘Your Song’ with John at New York show. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen perform in New York on Thursday Photo: Kevin Kane/ Getty Images In the past year Lady Gaga has risen from little-known dance act to one of today’s major international superstars. But how do you know you’ve really arrived? It’s when you get invited to perform at Sting’s annual Rainforest Fund benefit show. On Thursday night (May 13) Gaga was on-hand for the star-studded show at New York’s Carnegie Hall, which also featured performances by Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, host Sting, Mary J. Blige and Blondie’s Debbie Harry. Wearing a frumpy gray old-lady wig, a white mini-hoop skirt and matching leggings that looked like they were made out of Ace bandages, Gaga sat down at the piano for what the New York Daily News described as a “sober version of one of the most earnest pop songs of all time,” Ben E. King’s timeless “Stand by Me.” She also hooked up with pop icon John again for a run through her song “Speechless,” which segued into his hit “Your Song” in what the paper described as a seamless collaboration between two stars who seemed “made for each other.” The 21st annual show opened with Sting singing “Englishman in New York.” He later hooked up with Mary J. for their duet, “Whenever I Say Your Name.” Springsteen belted out Bryan Adams’ “Cuts Like a Knife” and “Dancing in the Dark.” Though he played such classics as “Philadelphia Freedom,” John also got in on the cover action, taking on the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City” and Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” and “Material Girl,” accompanied by a kick line of male go-go dancers wearing Speedos. Harry performed the Blondie classic “The Tide Is High,” while Dame Shirley Bassey busted out two of her iconic James Bond themes, “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds Are Forever,” as well as her hit “Big Spender.” Chic leader Nile Rodgers served up “Le Freak” and Sting returned later in the show for a cover of the Fine Young Cannibals’ 1989 hit “She Drives Me Crazy.” The whole gang ended the night by taking on Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Related Artists Lady Gaga Elton John Bruce Springsteen

How Much More Money Can NBC Make Off of Betty White?

This morning, NBC announced that it plans on taking advantage of the same social networking tool that swept Betty White into Studio 8H and helped rally over 12 million people into actually watching Saturday Night Live this weekend. The network’s Facebook-compatible program, Fan It, will reward NBC viewers for talking online to their friends about NBC shows with NBC merchandise. Interested, I clicked over to NBC’ s web store just to see if there was any swag that could possibly sway me into enlisting in NBC’ s incestuous PR machine. And there it was, right next to the Biggest Loser Bath Scale ($40) and the Heroes Helix Symbol Pendant Necklace ($15): proof that NBC is still exploiting Betty White.

Ke$ha’s ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ Video: Beards, Boulders, Beatles And Bodypaint

‘Tik Tok’ singer’s wild clip, from Animal album, premiered today. By James Montgomery Ke$ha on the set of her “Your Love Is My Drug” video Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News You can accuse Ke$ha of being many things (and after her divisive performance on “Saturday Night Live,” last month, many people have), but you cannot say that she’s not honest. In recent weeks, she’s told us that her brand-new video for “Your Love Is My Drug” would be set in a desert, would feature plenty of animals, at least one bearded dude , an extended, body-paint enhanced dance sequence in a cave, and animation inspired by the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” film. And now that the video has premiered … well, she wasn’t lying. “Drug” — which premiered at 12:01 am Thursday (May 13) on Vevo.com (link) — is very much all of those things, a rollicking, slightly nonsensical thing that follows Ke$ha and her hirsute lover on a psychedelic romp through the deserts of Lancaster, California. She rides an elephant. She covers herself in body paint (like she did on “SNL”), wraps a python around her neck and writhes beneath the glow of black lights. She crawls around with a tiger mask stuck to her face. Midway though the clip, the whole thing morphs into a heady, psychedelic trip, with curvy animated waves lapping against the desert rocks, and singing fish that look like they were lifted from the Beatles’ 1968 “Submarine” flick. None of it makes much sense, but that hardly matters. As Ke$h herself even admitted, she wrote the song “on an airplane, in, like, 10 minutes.” None of this is a slight on either the tune or the clip: It’s a supremely catchy pop tune, and the video is the perfectly blissed-out accompaniment. Of course, if one were to get deep about it, with all the desert interloping, “Drug” also recalls Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 film “Zabriskie Point,” not to mention the “Mr. Show” sketch “Jeepers Creepers Semi-Star,” but I’m willing to bet those similarities are purely coincidental. It seems that, with “Drug,” Ke$ha has stumbled on a perfect formula for pop success: Don’t think too big, or too much. Sometimes an elephant ride is just an elephant ride. It’s a lot harder than you’d think to make something seem this effortless. Like I said, you can accuse Ke$ha of many things — but don’t ever say she’s not smart . What do you think of Ke$ha’s video for “Your Love Is My Drug”? Let us know in the comments below! ‘American Idol’ Experts: Michael Lynche Done In By Song Selection

They’d predicted Casey James’ ouster first, but our superfans weren’t shocked to see Big Mike go. By Gil Kaufman Michael Lynche on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX In one of the toughest weeks to call yet, MTV News’ go-to “American Idol” experts were thrown for a loop by Wednesday night’s elimination. They both bet on the demise of cougar-bait cowboy Casey James , who toyed with self-parody with his ode to mother lovers, “Mrs. Robinson.” But it was brawny Michael Lynche who got the boot . On the one hand, MJ Santilli, webmaster of the “Idol” fan site MJsBigBlog.com , was not surprised Lynche was eliminated, only that he was still around. “Actually, it’s pretty amazing how long he stuck around, considering he was originally slated to go out in ninth place,” she said, noting that the judges were not impressed with his cover of Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There,” and, apparently, neither were viewers. “Casey James’ fanbase came through for him this week, and he may have caught the attention of some casual fans who appreciated his solid performance of ‘Mrs. Robinson,’ ” she said, noting that it was better than Lee Dewyze’s tepid “Kiss From a Rose.” “Casey’s performance was better than the judges acknowledged — or barely acknowledged, as they were too busy teasing Kara and making jokes about the song’s theme — a younger man seducing an older woman,” Santilli said. “Who knows? Maybe the song resonated with more than a few women of a ‘certain age.’ ” For MTV News’ “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello , Lynche’s elimination was like a bad movie flashback. “It was fitting that Big Mike was the lowest vote-getter for the second time this season during a week that felt like d
