Steve-O Says ‘Jackass 3D’ Shows ‘Totally Different Me’

‘Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful,’ he says of ‘scary’ stunts in flick previewing at Sunday’s VMAs. By Jocelyn Vena Steve-O Photo: MTV News Fans won’t have to wait until October 15 to get a taste of the mayhem set to take place in “Jackass 3D.” An exclusive clip from the flick will premiere during the MTV Video Music Awards , where the cast will also be presenting on Sunday. One of the movie’s stars, Steve-O, is super excited for fans to check out the preview. “I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome. We made a great movie. Everybody’s gonna love it. People are gonna be waiting to see how being sober and filming ‘Jackass’ is different [for me],” he told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful, more scary and the first thing I say is, ‘I’m Steve-O, why do I have to be Steve-O?’ ” He wouldn’t get too specific about his favorite part of the movie, but Steve-O did note that the film starts with one very eye-catching scene. “I think that after the opening credits, like, the first scene that I’m in, I think it’s pretty great,” he said. “It’s just awesome. It’s a good movie.” While doing many of the painful stunts in “Jackass 3D” proved to be quite the challenge for a now-sober Steve-O , he was certainly up for it. “I was eager to do as much as I could. I, unlike Johnny Knoxville and some of the other guys, was feeling pretty sure I didn’t want to risk paralysis or death,” he joked. ‘Knoxville just needs to risk paralysis and death, but that being the case, I was really eager to get involved in as much stuff as I could, and I think I’m in this new movie more than either of the first two. It was a totally different me and it was a real blessing to do that.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Swizz Beatz Could ‘Get Used To’ Performing At The VMAs

Swizz is set to perform ‘Fancy’ with Drake and Mary J. Blige Sunday night. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Swizz Beatz Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage LOS ANGELES — Celebrated party-starter Swizz Beatz will have a very different vantage point at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. Swizz will be a performer at the show rather than his usual position as spectator. “I’m used to seeing people perform my music on the VMA stage while I sit back and watch like a proud dad and a fan,” he said Friday in his dressing room at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Swizz and Mary J. Blige will take to the stage as Drake’s special guests to perform “Fancy” on Sunday night. “But to actually be on that stage during rehearsal, it was like, ‘I can get used to this.’ This is probably where I need to be next year … by myself. So it was super-inspiring to rock with Drake and to have Mary out there. It’s gonna be fun.” Also on Friday, Drake revealed that his performance was inspired by Frank Sinatra and his legendary homies. “I watched the Rat Pack live at the Copa Room,” Drake recalled. “It was just so relaxed. They were smoking cigarettes and drinking Jack. It was women everywhere. It wasn’t, ‘Let’s just rap and be epic and be huge.’ They were like, ‘I really run this. Me and Sammy and Dean.’ I wanted to get up there and look fly.” The song “Fancy” has its own interesting story. The record was originally supposed to be on Mary J. Blige’s 2009 Stronger With Each Tear, but did not make the cut due to scheduling. Swizz Beatz was going to hold it for his own LP, but after talking to Drake about collaborating for Thank Me Later, he handed the tune over to the 23-year-old. ” ‘Fancy’ has been well-traveled,” Swizz Beatz said over the summer in New Orleans. “It started off as a Swizz record. Then I got Mary [J. Blige] on it. It was supposed to be on her [ Stronger With Each Tear ], but we missed the deadline. Then I pulled it back for my [upcoming] record. Then five o’clock one morning, on the phone speaking with Drake, he’s in a different time zone, we’re trying to figure out what he needs [for his album]. He’s like, ‘Yo, I just need a record for the ladies.’ I’m on my computer playing him joints over the phone. Then I played him ‘Fancy.’ I was like, ‘You want something like this?’ But I was playing it as a reference.” “He was like, ‘That’s the record I need,’ ” Swizz continued. “I said, ‘OK, I’ll make you that.” And as history shows, Drake didn’t want something like “Fancy,” he wanted “Fancy.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Petey Pablo Arrested At North Carolina Airport

Airport security found a weapon in the rapper’s luggage when he was reportedly on his way to VMAs. By Mawuse Ziegbe Petey Pablo (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Petey Pablo was arrested on Saturday (September 11) in North Carolina for allegedly trying to bring a weapon onto a flight. According to local news website WRAL.com , the rapper was arrested at around 6 a.m. at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after airport security found a Smith & Wesson 639 in his carry-on luggage. He was reportedly attempting to board a flight to Los Angeles for Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. The MC (born Moses Barrett III) was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Pablo posted $50,000 bail and has a court date on Monday. The rapper reportedly gave out his CDs to jailers before he left. The arrest isn’t the rapper’s first run-in with the law. Before launching his music career, Pablo served six years of a 14-year prison sentence for selling drugs. Known for high-energy hits like “Freek-A-Leek,” Pablo kicked off a successful music career with the help of the Timbaland-produced “Raise Up” in 2001. His debut LP, Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album, and the follow-up, Diary of a Sinner: 2nd Entry, debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 in 2004. The rapper also guested on Ciara’s debut single, “Goodies.” In 2005, Pablo teamed up with Death Row honcho Suge Knight for the album Same Eyez on Me. The Southern hitmaker’s partnership with the West Coast mogul was unexpected, but Pablo explained his views about their working relationship in an interview that year with MTV News. “If you accept what life is supposed to be, then there’s things that’ll happen in your life that you won’t fully understand until later on in life. But when the understanding comes at the end of the day, everything that you ever had questions about will be no more,” Pablo said. “What God put together, let no man take it apart.” Related Artists Petey Pablo

Drake Says Rat Pack Inspired VMA Performance

‘I wanted to get up there and look fly,’ he tells MTV News. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — You know you’ve made it when the chorus from your song is quoted on “SportsCenter.” You know you’ve made it tenfold when you have a highly anticipated slot at the MTV Video Music Awards . Drake has both, with “you fancy, huh?” permeating pop culture, and on Sunday, you’ll see him team up on the big stage with Swizz Beatz and a very special guest, Mary J. Blige, for his debut VMA performance. “All I remember is that VMAs in Vegas, in the hotel,” Drake said Friday afternoon (September 10) in his dressing room at the Nokia Theatre. He had just finished rehearsing for a couple of hours. “I remember being at home … seeing Tyga perform with Wayne, and I was like, ‘Man, I gotta get my ball rolling. I gotta be there one day.’ It’s surreal, being on that stage.” And yes, Drizzy will be surrounded by several beautiful ladies and one lovely Queen. “Fancy” was originally slated to be a Mary record , before eventually making its way to Thank Me Later. Drake and the song’s producer, Swizz Beatz, decided to keep her vocals on the hook of the song. “Her vocals are what make it so sweet,” Drake beamed of having MJB perform with him. “What’s more classy, more fancy than Mary J. Blige? I’m not sure. She is the epitome of class, in my opinion. It’s more of a real theater production than it is a performance. It’s really a lot of acting.” If rehearsals are any indication, Drake’s performance will be reminiscent of the up-to-date Sinatra cool in his VMA promo spot .
