Michelle Williams ‘So Grateful’ For Oscar Nod

‘This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime,’ the ‘My Week With Marilyn’ star says in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn” Photo: The Weinstein Company Michelle Williams is getting Oscar love yet again. Williams is nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for “My Week With Marilyn,” facing off against screen legends and some fresh blood. “I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors — a special congratulations to [co-star] Kenneth Branagh — and the fearless Harvey Weinstein,” she said in a statement. “This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime. I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn’s legacy.” The other nominees in her category are Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Viola Davis (“The Help”), Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”). Branagh, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work in “Marilyn,” was equally amped about the recognition. “It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier,” he said in a statement. “To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I’m absolutely thrilled.” Williams already won the Golden Globe for her role in the film earlier this month. This marks her third Oscar nod after previous nominations for “Blue Valentine” and “Brokeback Mountain,” though she has yet to take one home. Recently, former “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Joshua Jackson opened up about Williams’ critically lauded career . “It’s surreal, in that it would be surreal to see any of your friends [up for an Oscar]. It’s amazing. She’s an excellent actress,” he told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival . “Of all of us, when we finished that show, she was the one who had the clearest idea about what it was that she wanted to do. To be able to go out and achieve that is no small feat. I just think it’s wonderful.” See the complete list of Academy Awards Nominations . Rihanna To Perform With Coldplay At Grammys

‘We Found Love’ singer will join band for ‘Princess of China.’ By Gil Kaufman Rihanna Photo: WireImage Rihanna and Coldplay will perform live together for the first time on February 12 when they take the stage at the 54th annual Grammy Awards for the televised debut of their Mylo Xyloto collaboration, “Princess of China.” Rihanna, nominated for four Grammys this year, broke the news on Twitter , writing, “My friends @ColdPlay and I will be sharing the stage for a performance at this years Annual Grammy Awards!” A short time later she added, “WE reached 2BILLION views on @youtube !!! THANK U!!! I’m in a great mood, and I got some GREAT NEWS!!! PRINCESS OF CHINA #GRAMMYS2012.” The show, which will be hosted by rapper LL Cool J , will also feature a performance by rock icon Paul McCartney, who will join a lineup that already includes Grammy nominees Foo Fighters, Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Marks, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean. At the time Xyloto was released , Coldplay singer Chris Martin explained that the decision to invite another voice into the studio was made because of the unusual story arc of the band’s Grammy-nominated album. “Her bit on our record is my favorite bit. … When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we’ve been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music,” Martin told MTV News. “Our new record is sort of a story; it’s not quite a musical, but it’s dangerously close. There’s a bit of a love-story thread, so we really needed someone to sing even higher than me,” Martin said. “[It’s] hard, but very possible. You need to be a female really. For all [drummer] Will [Champion]’s good intentions, he [can’t do it] … “… So, in like a dream scenario, we had a song that I’d secretly kind of written to see if Rihanna would want to sing it,” Martin continued. “And then the rest of the band wanted to keep it, so we came up with the idea of asking her to sing it with us, and, to our great surprise, she said OK.” More Grammy performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks. Lady Gaga Doubles Up At Grammy Nominations Special

Gaga opens and closes the show, with an assist from country duo Sugarland. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga opens the “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Anyone who has ever seen Lady Gaga is aware that she knows how to work a look. And on Wednesday’s (November 30) “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!,” she worked two of them, both about as different as could be. As she announced earlier, Gaga served as both the opening and closing act during the telecast, and, of course, those two roles required two totally different sides of the Mother Monster. She started things off with a steampunk -y version of “Marry the Night,” opening the song on a stage littered with smoking pipes and scattered bits of scrap metal. Her face done up like a skeleton (or perhaps Zombie Boy ?), wearing a black cloak, she solemnly sang the song’s opening lines, as a group of gothed-up dancers cavorted around her. Take a closer look at this year’s Grammy nominees through photos! As the beat kicked in, she shed her cloak (revealing a sport coat, matching underwear set and, of course, thigh-high boots) and hit the harmonies hard, while guitars wailed and those dancers posed and popped. Then the whole thing gave way to a particularly fierce dance segment, which brought the performance to a close and earned a standing ovation from the industry-heavy crowd (David Guetta seemed particularly pumped, it should be noted). And after the nominations were revealed, Gaga was back to wrap things up, and she did so in true Grammy style, joined onstage by country duo Sugarland for a husky, musky version of “Yo

Consider Uggie: The Awards Case for The Artist’s Wonder Dog

It’s awards madness this week at Movieline, with the New York Film Critics Circle and Gotham Awards having weighed in on their best of 2011, the Independent Spirit Awards revealing their nominees, and the National Board of Review winners forthcoming on Thursday. But amid all the institutionalized laurels and accolades, one subject remains notably absent — a subject so beloved within his own celebrated film that the omission remains a cruel snub at best and a skulduggerous interspecial sham at worst.

Nicki Minaj Drops Some Angry Cleavage

I’m sure all of you have been up all night wondering who was nominated for this year’s American Music Awards … Well you’re going to have to go somewhere else because all I’ve got for you today are some shots of Nicki Minaj dropping some impressive cleavage in a stupid outfit at the nominees conference yesterday. Well done lady. Although she’s looking a little pissed off, maybe she wasn’t nominated for anything. I’d nominated for best female rapper cleavage.

Terrence Malick Seen Filming with Christian Bale at Austin City Limits

Here’s a provocative sight: The reclusive Terrence Malick was seen at Austin City Limits filming Christian Bale and Haley Bennet for an unknown project. Might it have something to do with Malick’s rumored Jerry Lee Lewis flick? Are Malick and Bale merely researching for a future film? Or is something else afoot? DO U THINK THERE BOYFRIENDS ? Enjoy a photo of the duo after the jump.
