Jason Collins Signs Historic NBA Contract, Receives Props on Twitter

Jason Collins made history today. The center signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets and became the first openly gay active athlete in any of the major American professional sports. The 35-year old revealed in late April 2013 that he is gay , yet he went unsigned through the rest of the offseason and the first half of the actual season. “The decision to sign Jason was a basketball decision,” general manager Billy King said in a statement. “We needed to increase our depth inside, and with his experience and size, we felt he was the right choice for a 10-day contract.” Still, off the court, an outpouring of support for Collins has been dominating Twitter. And West, someone who prides himself on being real, can’t comprehend why Kardashian would permit herself to come across this way when it’s so antithetical to her actual personality. Funny. Kanye West Will Not Face Charges For Attacking Teen Kanye may be off the hook for this incident, but we’re curious to see what happens when he gets his hands on Joan Rivers for calling baby North ugly. According to LA Times: No charges will be filed against rapper Kanye West for allegedly punching a person at a Beverly Hills chiropractor’s office, the L.A. County district attorney’s office said Friday. The alleged incident occurred Jan. 13 in the 8800 block of Wilshire Boulevard after West’s fiancee, Kim Kardashian, entered the office at the same time as the alleged victim. The alleged victim held the door open for Kardashian,”words were exchanged, and both parties report the victim used a racial epithet,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement. Kardashian relayed the verbal encounter to West, apparently by cellphone, according to media reports. West went to the chiropractor’s office and shortly afterward, he and Kardashian found the alleged victim in the waiting room. West punched the person an unknown number of times, according to the district attorney’s office. No significant injuries were documented at the time of the initial report, the office said. The victim’s attorney indicated a civil compromise had been reached with West, and although a police report was filed, the victim declined to seek criminal prosecution, the district attorneys office said. “Further inquiry by this office resulted in the victim, through his attorney, declining to speak with a member of the district attorney’s office,” authorities said in a statement. “Prosecution is accordingly declined due to victim unavailability.” Yeezus stays catching fade with people and not facing charges. Justin Bieber’s private plane, headed to the Super Bowl this weekend in New Jersey, was detained Friday under suspicion that it was carrying marijuana. The plane had just arrived at Teterboro Airport at 2:53 p.m. from Toronto when authorities detected what was described as “a strong odor of pot” on board. The plane, believed to be a twin-jet Raytheon Hawker 800, was ordered held for drug-sniffing dogs to check out the contents and people on board. It was not clear if the singer was aboard, though he planned to fly from his native Canada so he could take in the Super Bowl and pre-game festivities. No word on which of his douchebag friends were on the aircraft or if airport officials can find a way to just deport Justin Bieber back to Canada on the spot. Wishful thinking, we know … but it would be a popular decision, no doubt. The incident comes after Toronto authorities charged him with assault on Wednesday, and Miami police arrested him for DUI and other charges last week.
